"Hel, I would like to get married as much as you want to, but..." She paused briefly, putting both hands on either side of the ghoul's shoulder, "It is very important for both parties to be ready before getting married! It is a responsibility! A shared responsibility! Not being ready might mean that the marriage could potential fail!"
Fail marriages; another thing she learnt about after dating Mac. Apparently marriages can fail.
"You will not cease to exist tomorrow, Hel!" She was firm about that, "And you will not die unwed!"

No, Lizzy, no! There could be no buts! Oh…well…yeah that was a pretty good point.
Hel pouted. “But Lizzy…if he is not ready then…then that means I am not an honorable valkyrie.” The ghoul looked down trodden at this realization. “…If I am more honorable…if I….if I work and train harder…then he will want to, yes!?” Hel reached up now to plant her hands on Lizzy’s shoulders, gripping them securely.
“You do not know that, dear Lizzy…we could fall at any time…these are very dangerous times, ya? The odds of me dying unwed are…very great.”

Was it a shoulder gripping contest now? Okay, she's got this. She's got this.
Her grip on Hel's shoulder tightened as she shook her head, "No, Hel. It's not you... It's him. Mot is... Clearly not ready." She paused momentarily, trying to show Hel how serious she was, "He speaks really fondly of you... So he must love you, but maybe he needs more time - a lot more time - to get used to the idea of getting married... I agree that these are dangerous times, but that is no reason to rush into things."
Another dramatic pause.
"Especially something as serious and wonderful as a marriage."

It was a comforting gesture really, but as Lizzy gripped her shoulders tighter, Hel gripped hers tighter in return. That was probably from anxiety and excitement as well though. The valkyrie understood the seriousness and how grave the subject matter was though.
Her face fell once more. “….Lizzy…what must I do to make him ready?” She questioned, her gaze set and determined, though the words that came out next had Hel’s entire thought process (scrambled as it was already) looking like a train wreck. It was almost like one of those record scratching moments when something was thrown off. Hel leaned back a bit and stared at the spider demoness wide eyed. “Hold on a minute there, friend!” She cried. “Love?” She repeated incredulously, as if she hadn’t heard her the first time. Woah…woah…
Please excuse Hel while she took a very long moment to think about this.

"I don't think you can do anything, except what you had always done," She shook her head, "It's something he has to do... On his own." At least, that was how she felt about the subject.
"... Don't you... Love each other?" She blinked, looking confused as she tilted her head, a frown tugging at the edge of her lips, "Um... Like? Uh... I mean, if you're thinking about marriage, you must be in love, right...? You're not marrying any d**k, Tom or Harry off the streets, after all! You're picking a life partner!"
Mental note to self: Talk to Mac about this.

Something he had to do on his own!?
Hel was never getting married. The reaper groaned. Her shoulders slumped under Lizzy’s hold, but she straightened out once more as the demoness’ words.
The ghoul stared into Lizzy’s pink eyes, a brow slowly raising as she thought about her words. “…Love each other?” She echoed, and then thought back to a previous conversation she had with the grim reaper. “…He said he really liked me…and I really like him too.” Hel nodded her head firmly. “...Is…this love?” Her brows furrowed. “…No. No I do not believe this is love.” Hel honestly felt like…she wasn’t there…yet? She cared strongly for him, she’d do anything for him, she was really fond of him, and she told him more things about herself than she told anyone else (who wasn’t Freya)…but she did not feel…that at this point in time.
With that cleared, Hel focused back on Lizzy. “…Honestly, friend, my mother did not marry my father because she loved him. She married him because he was strong, ruthless, and blood thirsty. But…I would say now that…she is fond of him, yes!” Fond of him after nearly twenty years, yes. Perfect role model.
Poor Lizzy.

"... Did you... Ever talk to Mot about what he wants out of a marriage, when he gets there? I mean... I'm not sure what he wants to marry for, but everyone has something that they want out of a marriage, I'm sure!" She nodded; for example, she would like to settle down, raise a family with a husband who loves her and the family.
"But... You are not your mother! You are yourself! Love... Takes a while, I suppose..." She did take a few months to feel comfortable enough with Mac to say it, and he took a good 6 months. Plus one break-up. She frowned, "But I mean... If someone stronger, more ruthless, more blood thirsty and more willing to get married earlier in life comes along... Will you prefer him to Mot?"

The reaper’s face fell again at Lizzy’s questions. “…No…we did not talk about it that much.” She was pouting again. “Because he was not…enthused about the subject at all.” Woe is Hel. Something she wanted out of the marriage…The ghoul leaned closer to Lizzy (which was pretty damn close, considering they were already close to begin with), and uttered in a hushed tone. “…Honestly friend, I am not concerned about scarelings right now…though I suppose…if I truly thought about that I wanted out of a marriage…” Hel was rather passionate about the subject, so she was able to talk to Lizzy about it a bit more easily. “…It is the constant companionship. Marriage…it means that other will be there for you always…the other will be yours always…ya?”
Hel tilted her head, her brows furrowing at Lizzy’s next question, and then a horrified expression crossed her face, and her hands tightened on the ghoul once more. “Oh jack no!” She cried. “I would never prefer anyone over Mot!” Now that was a pretty bold claim…

"Actually... Mac told me that a marriage could fail if both parties are not up to it, so 'always' is not always the case..." She looked highly disturbed at the idea, making faces before settling on frowning; like most things Mac had told her, it actually made sense despite how harsh it sounded - oh how she hated it when he was right about something she didn't want him to be right about.
Then again, Mac's view on relationships had always been rather... Pessimistic.
"Eeep!" She squeaked before nodding, "See! So maybe the love part of being fond of Mot would come in time! And I'm sure that it's the same for him! He'll get more comfortable with the idea of marriage in time!"

Whaaat? Marriages? Failing? Hel’s mind could not compute. “…Lizzy…I do not know of one valkyrie that has failed a marriage with her husband…that is…unheard of!” Yes, Hel came from a very old school traditional-type culture. There was only one way out of marriage to her. Death. “I do not understand why a marriage would go through if both parties were not sure, anyways.” That’s why she needed to make Mot ready.
“Love…will come in time?” Hel echoed. “…Ah…I suppose…” One of those wait and see things. Once again she frowned though. She was fine with the love will come in time idea…but not so much the accepting the marriage idea in time. She didn’t have time…or so she thought. Hel just sighed deeply. At this point, it seemed her chances of dying unwed were far greater…
Woe is Hel.
“…Ah…Lizzy…I suppose…while we are on the subject…in a way…I uh…” Her brows furrowed. “…I do admit…I require your…assistance in a most serious matter.”

"I know, I know! But Mac told me that such things do happen, and he sounded worried when he said it, so I guess he was worried that something like that might happen to us down the road," She frowned, sighing; not even talking about marriage yet, and he was being a pessimistic boilfriend! Patting Hel on her shoulders on both sides - since her hands were conveniently there anyway - she then tilted her head, blinking at her friend.
"Ohhh? What do you need help with?" It sounded serious, and her frown deepened, "I'll help you where I can!"

Hel scowled at the mention of Mac and words. She needed to clock the Psychopomp another one, actually! The jerk refused to tell her what was up with him and Lizzy after all…so of course she didn’t like to hear what he thought about marriage now! “Let us just hope that if and when the time comes, Mac will man up to it, ya?”
Okay…now time to ask.
Hel shifted a bit, her brow furrowing. Okay…she just needed to come out and say it. “…Scarentines is coming soon.” The ghoul started, her expression grim. “…It is Mot’s birthday…and I…” Oh dear Jack, getting the next words out were like pulling teeth. Hel looked pained trying to say them. “…I would like to purchase a nice dress for the occasion…and…shoes…and…” She was muttering now, “Hair…and you are rather talented at all of these things.”

"I certainly hope so," She muttered, a faint blush creeping up her cheeks at the mention of Mac and 'man' in the same sentence, squirming a little where she was, although she soon paused and perked up at the word 'Scarentines', giving a slow nod, "Go on..."
What came out of Hel's mouth next were like pure Lizzy joy, in the form of words.
"YES! OF COURSE!" She cheered, giggling before throwing her arms into the air and around her friend, giving her a hug, "Awwww! Mot will be so surprised! What sort of dress do you need? Something formal? Casual? A mix of both?" She was talking a mile a minute, clearly excited and enthusiastic about the topic, "I would rather you pick everything! I can show you where to get them, though!"

Sadly, Hel did not find anything odd or unusual about Lizzy blushing or squirming when Mac was mentioned. To the valkyrie, that was how Lizzy usually was when the reaper was mentioned. She remembered how the spider demoness looked when she ranted about Mac, thank you very much.
The ghoul startled at Lizzy’s sudden enthusiasm, and couldn’t help but blush lightly as well and rub her cheek as she was pulled into a hug. Surprised, huh? Hopefully the good kind. “…Uh…” Why did there have to be different kinds of dresses? “…I…I am not certain…I just need…a nice dress…and one that is red…” Was someone creeping around GroanSpring about someone’s favorite color? Nah.

"Red? Well, there are lots of nice dresses out there that are red!" She nodded, the grin on her lips widening every second, "Well, what sort of dresses would you prefer? Something short? In-between? Long? Tight? Skin tight? Loose? Flowy? Poofy? Simple? Maybe one with lots of layers?" She was going on and on and on, until she finally stopped, holding up a finger, "Ah! One minute!"
Leaving Hel on the floor, she went to grab her laptop, logging in and going into the interweb, dragging out dress catalogs from her favorite shops - ones that were hopefully 'affordable' for everyone.
"Why don't you pick one?" She put the laptop down in front of the ghoul, and then flopped down beside her, poking at the screen, "Just tell me which type you like!"
