Reine preened a little at the compliment. Dakota wasn't the first one she'd beat in a spar, and he most certainly wouldn't be the last either. Though, she thought guiltily, it would probably be better to save the beating for their enemies instead of their allies..
But you just couldn't go easy on someone for a spar, otherwise it wouldn't be practice, would it?
"I do!!" She chirped, grinning at Eva, though her expression soon changed to one of curiosity. "You never did," Reine echoed. "What... 'happened' to it?" Judging by Eva's tone it didn't seem like a particularly good experience, though Reine genuinely thought the hairstyle suited her friend.
"I bet you will!" There was an awkward pause, and Reine looked away, blushing slightly. "You're really pretty, so any hairstyle will look good on you, for sure!"

"Haha, well, it's not that interesting of a story, really, but..." Eva's cheeks reddened a little as she wrung her hands behind her back, a big grin spreading over her lips, "I just thought my hair was getting a little long one day. It was it little above my waist, though all I wanted to do was get an inch or two cut. But you know, hairdressers are expensive..." It was pretty easy to guess what ended up happening. Laughing, she lifted her hand, twirling the longer strands of hair around her fingers as she continued.
"Basically, I don't advise you to try cutting you own hair without any practice. The first few snips ended up being really crooked, but I figured I could fix it. So I snipped more, and more, and more, until..." She pat her short hair and laughed. Well, in the end, she had gotten a professional to fix it up (after her mother returned home and flipped out at the sight of her daughter's long, flowing black locks strewn over the bathroom counter).
Reine's compliment genuinely startled her, and after a moment of pause, she reached out and gave her friend a big hug, laughing all the while. "You're really pretty yourself, you know! And I'm not sure about any hairstyle would look good on me. I mean...what about a buzzcut or something?" ...
...Suddenly she looked as if she was really considering it. After a moment of pause, however, she jerked her head in the direction of the main building. "Have you eaten yet? What do you say we go and eat? And if you're up for it later, a spar!"

Reine's face turned almost completely white at the story, and a hand moved up to nervously twirl a lock of her own hair. You could have been telling her a horror story, from the looks of it. It wasn't that Evie's hairstyle looked bad as it was, it was just.. the snipping more and more bit, and Reine imagining that happening to herself. She'd always kept her hair long, for some reason- maybe an unconscious attempt to look more feminine, considering what she was lacking in other departments.
"I'm glad you fixed it, though-- eeep!" The hug came unexpectedly, but Reine threw her arms around Eva, returning the gesture. Somehow her heart hurt a little- it wasn't that Eva had said anything mean, it was just..
Just that it should have been Petra talking to her about this, Petra acting like an actual older sister, instead of a stranger- though to be fair, she hadn't been much of a sister herself, and trying to fix anything now was likely to just end with more troublesome things to deal with. Reine nuzzled closer for a few seconds, simply enjoying the moment, until Eva pulled away.
"Lunch sounds good," she smiled, the usual brightness back in her eyes. "And a spar too, though maybe not right after.. you know, appendicitis and all!" Standing up, Reine stretched, glancing thoughtfully up at the sky before turning to face her friend again.
"Thanks, Evie."

Eva grinned as her friend agreed to her suggestion, stretching her arms over her head. Phew, she was kind of tired, and lunch would be the perfect way to get some more fuel in her. "Haha, yeah! We'll just relax for a bit after eating, and the spar can come after." It would suck to get cramps in the middle of sparring, that was for sure.
Just as she was about to head off towards the building, she was suddenly caught off guard by Reine's thank you. Her gaze drifted towards the girl, expression slightly puzzled. There was a moment of silence, and then her lips spread into a grin. "Anytime, Reine! What are friends for, right?" Reaching out, she linked her arm with Reine's, giving it a light squeeze. Then, grin growing wider, she gave her a gentle tug in the direction of the building.
"Let's go head the cafeteria before it gets too full! I wonder if they have anything edible today..."

Friends. Reine smiled at the word. They had your back- hopefully, she could do the same for them, if they needed it. Laughing, the life trainee followed her friend towards the cafeteria, her other hand moving to hold on to Eva's arm as they walked.
"There better be something edible," she said, wrinkling up her nose. "I'm not touching any of the gross stuff, not even if it means I have to starve to death." They reached the cafeteria just in time to beat the lunch crowd, but best of all, there was what looked like real food.
Real food. The idea was almost magical. And even if it wasn't particularly tasty food, at least it wasn't gloop.
