He hesitated, then started shortening it. "In my old neighborhood, if someone slapped someone else like that, the back of the hand across the face, it was the same as calling you a..." He tried to think of a way to put it for the ghoul. "A really dirty name," he said finally. "Worse, even. Like... it's the utmost sign of disrespect, get it? It's an insult. An attack on his very maleness. And some freshman that hardly knows us has NO RIGHT to insult one of my best friends like that."
He moved so he was cutting the side of her hair, clipping it slowly, trying his best to make it look good. It was only because it was Danny that he hadn't just whacked it off already.

It was weird seeing Roch so particular about something. If felt like he was cutting it strand by agonizing strand. That could've just been because Danny was getting fidgety from sitting for so long, but who knew? Normally he only got this particular about music. It was an interesting side of Roch to see.
Danny reached over and patted the side of Roch's face with her palm, giggling. He was just so serious, it was too weird.
Her arms fell back down to her side, and flopped on her thighs uselessly. She was really getting fidgety now. "Mmmm. I wonder why Yin did it though ..." she said, musing for herself. Rikki couldn't have ... told people already, could he?
Then again, there was no law against it. Its not like she had told Rikki he couldn't. She bit her lip again. "Hey Roch, are you almost done?" she said, anxiously.

"Yeah," he said, tugging the strands on opposite sides of her face down. They matched. "Alright, I'm done," he said, grabbing the mirror and handing it to her. "Whaddaya think?" he asked, looking quite proud of himself. "I think it looks good, myself."

Danny looked in the mirror, actually quite surprised at what she saw. He made it so short. Dear Jack where did her hair go?! It had been so long and now it was all goneeeee.
It really wasn't bad though. Actually, it kind of fit her. Now it wouldn't get in the way all the time! Danny smiled, "Great job!" she said, patting him on the arm, "Now whadda I owe you?" A mischievous smile creased her face revealing her pearly whites underneath.
After a moment, she said, "Umm. Rikki didn't uh. Tell you anything, did he Roch?" She fidgeted with the arm of the chair, apparently absolutely fascinated by the plastic arm.

"Tell me?" he asked blankly. "I haven't seen him since we were turned into ghouls, honestly. What would he need to tell me?" He took the towel off of her shoulders, taking it to shake off into the trash.

Hm. So he hadn't told Roch. That meant he hadn't told Yin either. After all, why would he tell Yin before one of his best bros? Danny figured that satisfactory enough.
She laughed awkwardly and said, "Ahaaaa... uhh. Just wondering if he talked to you about ... his exam!" She was lying through her teeth, and doing a horrible job of it.

"Danny, y'know... I coulda lied to you about Yin," he said as he came back, dropping down on his bed. "So don't go lyin' to me now. What happened? IS there a reason that that little jacktard hit him like that?"

Awwww man, now he was guilt tripping her. How could he always tell when she was lying? Danny pulled her knees up to her chest on the chair, setting her head on her legs.
How to phrase it, how to phrase it. Danny was never very good with words anyways, and saying this was hard. She wanted to just laugh it off like it really WAS his exam that she was worried about, but it wasn't possible with the way Roch was looking at her. It was making her feel horribly guilty; like she should've just told him the second it happened.
"U-Um ... we-we may have sort of broke up," she said quietly. Oh Jack she should have never come over here. There was a reason she hadn't told anyone yet, and this was it. She did not want to have to face this with other people. She was fine shaking alone at night, she didn't need to do it in front of anyone. Not even Roch.

He was silent for a moment. "I already told him what side I would take if that happened," he told her finally. "So I'm gonna ask, do you want me to beat the living hell out of him for whatever he did?" It seemed a strange thing, hearing Roch ASK before bursting into action. "You know I will."

The silence was absolutely dreadful. She didn't know what he was thinking and it killed her. Was he going to side with Rikki? Had he already heard and was mad because she didn't tell him?
When he spoke it was oddly formal. It didn't feel like Roch.
"No," she said firmly, shaking her head. She took a deep breath and looked at the ceiling, the trash- anywhere but Roch. She'd already thought a long time about this. She wasn't angry, just disappoint. Rikki was supposed to be the one that was different, and he wasn't. It was just sad the way she had to learn it.
"No," she repeated, "Please don't." She rubbed the side of her face awkwardly. Danny hoped Roch would just take that and let it lie, but somehow she figured he wasn't going to.

He nodded. "Jack, Danny, I could have--no," he said suddenly. "Look, I don't GET love. I just get that it's painful and it don't make no sense. But even if that's why the bug slapped him, he still don't have the right. Unless you've given him that right," he said, looking at her steadily. "How jackin' CLOSE are you and the bug? To where he has the right to settle your scores?"

Danny looked at Roch, absolutely baffled. Why was he bringing up Yin? Talking about Yin and love in the same sentence ... just ... no! Ewwww no.
"What?! We're friends Roch!" she pouted at him. Why was he talking about Yin that way? Seriously. She liked- ... They were talking about Rikki. Yin was not Rikki.
She shook her head again and said, "I don't know why he slapped Rikki! I don't know why he did it and I don't know why you beat him up and I-!" She buried her head in her arms.
Danny breathed out, clearly frustrated. She could understand Roch wanted to go fight Rikki- heck they did it all the time. She couldn't get why Yin would slap Rikki, why Rikki didn't fight back, why Roch had beat up Yin- it was too confusing! Not to mention Roch was pissed at Michi when he just met her, and Michi seemed to reciprocate the feelings.
"I don't get anything," she said, quieter than before, echoing the same line she had repeated at Rikki when they broke up. It was official; this was making her more miserable.

Roch sighed, running a hand over his face. She was so dense sometimes. "So what did Rikki do to make you break up with him? Flirt with another ghoul? Or did he break up with you?" Because he was still pretty sure the guy was a player. Who knew who he was dating now?
Also, seriously, what was with her and annoying as jack new friends? He could already see how she would reply to that one, so he didn't bother to ask.

Was it the ghouls? As much as she wished it were that simple, it wasn't. No, Neeancaht had nothing to do with this. "No not that. Something happened at Christmastival ..." she didn't really want to go into detail. It'd been a stupid fight anyways. Not worth the explanation.
"And later he called me some ... things. True things I guess." She sighed, frustrated. At this point, she didn't even know why she'd done it. Was it really because he called her stupid, or for a different reason?
Looking over at Roch, she said, "I just felt like I couldn't keep up." How vague could an answer get?

He frowned. "Yeah," he said finally. "I can sort of understand that," he admitted. "I mean, when I was chasin' Xiu, I kept tryin to be what she wanted, y'know? Say the right things, do the right things, but truth is... Jack, that ain't me. It never will be me. I like who I like and don't like who I don't like, I say stupid stuff all the time, and honestly, I don't CARE if I offend people. But also, I just ain't in her league," he admitted. "Not that I'm sayin' you and Rikki are in different leagues, or anythin, it's just..." He shrugged. "Sometimes two people just ain't meant to be like that."
