Chicago would have been too risque for a high school production, was Bell's thought on that matter. Well, risque hadn't been the word she actually used, but.... She was trying to be nice. Kyndall was obviously quite ambitious. And she wasn't sure that was entirely a good thing. Thank goodness this play wasn't a musical. Musicals were 80% more work. Especially with newbies.
All this judgement though was something the always happened for Bell, though, when landing in the hands of a new director, and she was keeping her mouth shut, lest her Prima Donna show. It got harder with the brownies. Food at rehearsal? Uuuuuuuuuuuuuh~ Well, plz not to be reciting stuff with your mouth ful. She supposed that was the most she could ask for. This might have just been the first rehearsal, everyone getting to know each other and, she expected, a general read over of the script, a crash course in improv, but...
Oh, maybe she was just used to more rigid guidelines. Had things really changed that much in the two years she'd forgone acting?
"Soooooo~ everyone here familiar with improv?"
Bell. Getting down to business.

Micah had wanted Merlin. Kyndall had told Micah not to be upset and that her personality better suited Gareth, but she wanted Merlin. And she was going to be a brat about it at home. For about two hours. After those two hours Alexij pretty effectivley set her straight with his fists, and Micah no sported a black eye to go with her costume. She disowned him as her twin that morning.
Still, she walked into rehersals, late, much to her own chagrin, with her head held high, ready to b***h and whine about her own brother hitting her on what she saw to be totally illogical grounds.
It was at the mention of improv that Micah, however, perked up, rushing out from backstage where she was loitering.
"I love imporv! Are we thinking about doing that to warm up or something?"

Anthony Darrow was feeling... less than encouraged. He was interested in this play, and he was so glad to see Kyndall happy and enthusiastic. She seemed to love this production already, and was more than excited for it. Seeing her thrive was uplifting and it helped him stay motivated.
But how he had managed to let her convince him to act was beyond him. In fact, it seemed a little ridiculous and he wondered if she had used some clever, devious mind game on him with her cunning wiles.
Whatever had happened, he was now in one scene. And he had to die.
But at least it happened early, and he didn't have to memorize too many lines. He was just worried about being that one really shitty part that everyone remembered absolutely vividly against all the other good parts. He also worried about somehow destroying the set, or falling off the stage, or missing a cue, or forgetting his blocking (which he didn't even have yet) or many other things. If it could go wrong, he was certain it would.
Gently Ponsonby, on the other hand, was in quite the opposite mood. She was ready for fun and for acting, and she was eager to get things underway. She got herself next to Kyndall, beaming at her friend and glancing around at the cast.
Oh, this was going to be very fun indeed.
At the words 'improv', Gently's ears perked and she grinned at the actors.
"Funny you should mention that. We'll be doing warm ups, but hitting the ground running without proper introductions and a table read won't do us any good. We'll get used to each other, and our parts, today, then we'll get to blocking and improv." She looked at Kyndall for confirmation on that. There was no reason to be on their feet with script and people they weren't yet comfortable with: day one was about learning and interacting.
Tony was hanging out in the back, feeling strained and distracted. With Dogby missing and the weight of this role, however small it might be, he was not at his most chipper. Maybe if Kyndall didn't see him there they would skip the act he was in...

Kyndall gave a sideways look to Gently and smiled. Efficient as ever. She knew she'd made a good choice, calling her to help out. The two women hadn't seen or heard much from one another since their dinner but Kyndall knew she had to pull the redhead in now not only for Alex's sake but for the sake of her sanity as well. If she didn't have someone effective to lean on she wasn't going to make it. The look she gave wasn't lost on the director so she turned her attention back to the stage.
"Yes." she agreed. "Let's not get ahead of ourselves."
She spotted her boyfriend lingering in the back and moved out from her chair to rescue him, bringing him out to sit with her and Gently in the theatre. There was no reason at all why he needed to be with the teens at the moment. He was only a small part in act 2 and was doing it mostly as a favor to her, anyway. She didn't mind running lines with him at home or having him rehearse in private. He didn't need to be in until dress rehearsals, anyway, when they were going through the entire show from start to finish.
He looked upset and she kissed his cheek, squeezing his hand. She'd ask him about it later.
When Laney walked in the green haired woman could not suppress a chuckle. Micah followed, excited by the prospect of improv and Kyndall judged that minus a few of the smaller roles they had just about the entire cast here. She had hoped Flannery might make it and Genevieve but, ah well, day one and all that.
"If everyone could just take a seat at the edge of the stage with scripts in hand we can go through introductions and a first cold read."

From where he stood his slate eyes shifted to the first speaking to him. Male and slightly taller than his own petite form. "Merlin." A smile as he greeted the other."Yes, I believe we should review, I have a feeling I should work on that with everyone." It was true, he likely should if only for the practice. It was likely that he had lines with everyone also, so he might as well work with them for that reason also.
Oh god, had the lanky blond just said that? Yes, yes she had. Shaking his head he smiled as he glanced her over and then the blue haired female who had apparently arrived with the short haired blond.
"Alexandre, and and yeah I think it's good if we get to know each other, remove some of the awkwardness which is bound to occur. It's bad enough I've never acted and I'm nervous." Admitting with something of a sheepish smile while he reached back to remove the loosening ribbon from his hair. Letting his hair fall free he set about pulling it back and tying up up again. "I think everyone here is a stranger to me to be honest, aside from Kyndall and Gently."
Zac knew him from someone, who? He thought to ask but thought better of it as he took Kyndall's advice and made for the stage where he took the steps. He didn't feel like hoisting himself up and sitting on the edge. Rather he stood with his script in hand. "Interesting, it seems somehow we all are connected in some fashion. Perhaps working together, outside of this, would be a good idea." For the sake of the play and his nerves among other things.
Cold read...that didn't sound good.

Improv? Kess's whole life was improv. But, more seriously, she'd played a few roles before. The girl was outgoing, and charismatic, and that usually meant she got snagged for a small part or two, particularly if they were out of boys. Before she could say anything, however, Kyndall was addressing the group.
Kess didn't waste anytime obeying instructions, pulling a folded copy of the script from the back pocket of her tan jeans and taking a seat with her long legs swinging over the edge of the stage. Slapping the packet of paper gently against her palm, her dark eyes brushed over the adults and backstage folks before them, in the front row, before landing on Laney.
"Nice shirt," it wasn't sarcastic in the slightest, her bright tone matching her wide grin. And she'd brought brownies? They were going to get along, for sure. The lanky blonde resisted the urge to immediately jump down and go get one, instead settling for staring longingly at the foil covered tray from across the short distance that separated them.

"Uh, sure!" Roxy smiled halfheartedly as she replied to Kyndall. Not like she wanted to be in a musical, or in an actual play for that matter but perhaps it was best to humor the director and all.
The blonde crossed the stage as the other began making conversation about improv and cold reads, things that didn't really pertain to her position so she honestly barley paid attention as she finally made it to where the others had gathered. Roxy sat herself down, letting her legs dangle from the edge of the stage and the binder rest upon her thighs, watching the others.
And then noticed the brownies, "oh hey, brownies!"

If there was one attribute Laney liked in a person more than being a cute girl, it was being theatrical. If there was one attribute she liked in a person more than being theatrical, it was being willing to talk to her. In this particular instance, a hot theatre girl was validating her. Laney was already prepared to mark this down as The Best Day. If the blonde never talked to her again, she was still prepared to count this as a win.
"Thanks," she said, feeling giddy, biting down on her lower lip in a smile. "I have too much free time and I get bored," she said, by way of explaining where a person managed to hunt down a shirt that had the word 'propz' on it. It didn't faze Laney that this hadn't been asked -- in her mind she supplied the question anyway. She'd never gotten the hang of supplying less information.
The blonde had a script and was sitting on the stage, so Laney figured she was one of the actors. That figured; she envied them all their stage presence. She wondered which role Kess was playing. Guinevere maybe, she'd seen productions of the Camelot musical cast cropped-haired actresses for Guinevere before, so they could put her in a wig up until the burning-at-the-stake scene and then have her nice and shorn. Some of the other roles were harder to picture her playing. She'd seen the cast list, but it had been hard to tell if the casting had been genderblind just by actors' names. At any rate, Laney would find out.
Roxy's interest in the brownies drew her attention away from Kess momentarily, and over to the longer-haired blonde. "Feel free to have one," she said cheerily, lifting up the tinfoil to show a neat little semi-pyramid of brownies underneath. "I thought people might get hungry, between their scenes and stuff. I know, when my blood sugar starts to get whack," Laney had picked up 'whack' somewhere and resolved never to let it go, like Rose in Titanic, "I just go neeeeeeeeeeeeeeuuuuuuuuuuugh," she made a noise like a plane taking a nosedive, which she mimicked with one hand.
Laney sat back in her chair and resolved not to be too disruptive, since it seemed they were about to start soon -- but she couldn't help further hand-signaling to Roxy that she -- point at Roxy -- should come over here -- swoopy motion gesture from Roxy to the front row -- to get some brownies -- point at brownies.

Genevieve slipped in from the backstage entrance and quietly walked onto the stage with her shoulders back and head held proudly. A walk for a queen. Eyes scanning the stage and area around it she recognized Alex, Gently, and Zac a little bit from an old party she'd been to once. She couldn't quite remember. Other than that she only the others based on who they'd auditioned for and others she did not know at all. Well, that was fine. It was time to make some friends and assert some dominance.
Nicely, she had to remind herself.
Crouching down to swing her legs off of the stage, Genie placed herself next to her Lancelot. With a bright smile and polite waiting for her to finish complimenting ... Whoever that was she held a hand out and introduced herself. "Kess is it? I'm Genevieve."

Daphne was probably one of the last ones to consider sitting, tapping her foot and inspecting the arrangement before her. There were several options of varying embarrassment that could appeal to her greatly but maybe, for five whole minutes since she'd graduated high school, she could tap into that serious resolve that had been thrown to the wind more and more often. It couldn't hurt for five minutes anyway.
Sitting directly in front of Kyndall seemed like a huge mistake. It wasn't that the verdant-haired woman was intimidating or even mean, it had nothing to do at all with Kyn as a person and everything to do with the fact that Daphne was no actress. Really. She couldn't precisely act her way out of a box but she generally could muddle through. Tony had helped the bluenette come up with a version of the role that was distressingly close to home; it would work out great or bomb horribly.
Kess was already fixating on the girl in the awesome shirt with the brownies (food, who knew) and had been preyed on almost immediately by...someone Daphne didn't know. Though she felt a bit adrift there was no jealousy, just a vast sense of humor that chuckled before hedging her bets the bluenette plopped down next to 'Lancelot', calling around the blonde to 'Arthur'. "Remind me later to toss you my number. I'm horrible at calls but I'm solid on texting."
What the hell was a cold read?

What.
Kess's dark eyes jumped from where they'd been locked on her tray of brownies, to the invader, Roxy, and back again. It would be clear to anyone that knew the blonde, or body language, that she had target acquired written all over her.
One long arm stretched out, and she flexed her fingers in a "gimmie" motion, the expression on her freckled, pouting face nothing short of tragic. She needed those brownies. Her meaningful stare, meant to encourage Laney to go the distance to hand over the tray, was broken by the arrival Genevieve, which wasn't necessarily a bad thing.
Kess gave the girl's hand a squeeze, and the rest of her a once-over, before flashing a quick grin. "Call me Lance." A joke. Maybe. She could feel Daphne's hip bump against her own as the bluenette sat, unable to resist the urge to playfully elbow her. Yeah. Daphne was solid on texting.

"Ah, Genevieve, you made it."
Kyndall breathed a sigh of some relief. The main cast really needed to be there. Now she had them all to work with, building chemistry. She had everyone sweep across the row and introduce themselves, crew included. It was best for everyone to know and be comfortable with each other. She wasn't troubled for anyone on that account except perhaps for Alexandre.
"Now, as you know we will have two children in this show, Ainsley and Peter. I'll need you to be respectful of their age. I realize they're only in one act but they will be around with you all backstage and will need to be treated sensitively."
That was a point she was serious about, fierce mama bear that she was. She'd been a mother now for about half of her life and though getting knocked up at seventeen wasn't her life's proudest achievement she certainly didn't regret it. Kyndall often adopted "cubs" as she went through life. Alexandre, Benitoite, Minny - the list went on but it was instinct. She looked to Gently and nodded, indicating they were going to get down to business, brownies or not.
"Alright, everyone open your scripts to the first page. Today just focus on reading the words and not acting them so you can get familiar with the story and hearing it aloud. Gently and I will fill in the parts of the missing actors."
Tomorrow they'd work on blocking the first Act.

Micah hopped over to an empty seat, practically bouncing as she did so. Part she wanted or not, Micah was proud that she'd gotten into the play. And she was proud that her role was a prominent one. Still, she happily flipped open her script and began using her handy dandy mini pen to circle her own bits. Oh, this would be so much fun. She's long since forgotten about her black eye and even stopped playing with her braids nervously, intent on being the best damned Sir Gareth anyone had ever seen ever. Ever.
When Kyndall began speaking, she looked around for the children. She hadn't seen any. Wherever they were, and however old they were, Micah wasn't babysitting. She did that enough, she didn't need to do it when she wasn't even being paid. She silently prayed that they were old enough to look after themselves. If that were the case then she'd be happy to treat them like adults. She never was good at talking to children as little kids. Granted, she called everyone younger than her "kid" but that was just her way. She spoke to children as though they were peers, using her normal vocabulary and not sugar coating her words. If they were going to hang with adults, then they should get the whole range of adult emotions and speech. If that meant dropping the F-bomb when Micah hurt herself, then she'd take the yelling from Kyndall.
"Are we going to be on stage for this read through, or sitting here?"

Looking to Daphne he gave a nod of his head. "Sounds good, I'll give you my number later as well. I'm good on calls and texting." Though he may not be the best on either but he was good enough. He just didn't like spending forever talking over the phone nor did he like long and drawn out one or two word text conversations, text speak also wasn't his thing. He'd leave those things to his cousins, they were the social one butterfly's.
"Maybe by the time opening night comes we'll know our lines and won't be uncomfortable." As of right now he didn't know his lines and knew how certain sorts of scenes were sure to make him feel.
After introductions, which did help a little bit with knowing everyone by name, he listened to Kyndall. So they had those two little children, from rehearsal's, in the play also. Ok, so that would be interesting. Sure, they'd all have to mind themselves but working with little children wouldn't be all that bad. He did remember the female from that day in the park, so had little doubt she'd do well around them all backstage.
Looking down at the script in his hands he flipped it open, soon that poor thing would have notes written in it by him. What those notes would be he didn't know now, but he had little doubt he'd be making notes in the script.
Well, reading through it just for a general idea of the play and all would help, might get some of his nerves calmed since he'd know what was to come when he started actually acting. Glancing about his eyes landed on Genevieve, a smile of greeting and a nod of his head given to her. He did remember her.

Zac sat down on the edge of the stage belatedly, he’d been watching the other people mill about and speak. Little interactions, gestures small and grand, glances and glowers starting already the complex chemistry of the first practice was rather amazing in its own way. He put himself as near to Kess and Daph as he could for a general sense of comfort and familiarity.
He had at least offered a small sort of ‘yeah I know that’ nod towards Bell when she’d inquired about improvisation. He wondered if that was the intended back up towards ‘if you forget your lines’.
“Should we hold some of the plywood props or will that be for the second read through?” he asked, half serious half kidding because he honestly wasn’t sure. The fact they’d been brought suggested they’d want them at some point but when?
