"You'll take me. That's a promise!" he smiled, immediately excited at the notion, squeezing his hand in confirmation.
Every glance Nolan took in of the beach, Aric watched carefully, as if wanting to impress the other, content when the other examined a brightly coloured shell. "That's a really bright one!" he said in approval. The dragon boy was so peculiar to Aric, and to him, being peculiar meant that he was very much interested in the other. He was still so enthralled at the idea of a companion to explore the wide sandy beaches--which to him, already felt like home though he had only been 'awake' for a short period of time. The sand seemed to gather around Aric's graceful feet as they walked, as if clinging on to his skin as the low tide kissed their feet as they neared.
Even Aric was taken by the ocean and the abundance of the golden sand, bright blue eyes fixated on the rocking waves and bright colours that were scattered and buried in the sand. "Hm?" he looked back at his friend, offering that perennial smile once again. "Do you like water, Nolan?" With that he pulled Nolan with him, walking into the ocean until it almost reached their knees, not even waiting for the other to reply, guessing that he'd just find out soon enough.
He then bent and splashed some of the cool water towards Nolan, chuckling playfully as he watched the boy's reaction.

When Aric exclaimed about the shell he'd picked, he visibly puffed up with no small amount of pride. Swinging his tail the opposite direction, he pressed the shell into Aric's free hand - mindful of the spines that traced the reptilian length - and seemed to be satisfied with his find as the only one he'd need that day.
It was still an odd sensation, walking in the sand with feet that were weightier than most, claws piercing the smooth surface. Though he had found his stride and balance, it was still unusual to feel the grain of sand against the softer underside of his feet, sticking to his scales and claws. The question Aric posed was not one Nolan could immediately answer, frowning in thought. Did he like water? How was he to know--? And then the desert boy was pulling him in, apparently determined to find out right then and there.
His pants were immediately soaked through and stuck uncomfortably to his skin, prompting a less than pleased expression to form. Staring down, he received a splash of cool water upon his face, making him shake his head and blink in bewilderment. That...that had felt good! Cocking his head at Aric, he stared at him for a few more moments before shaking his head in confusion. "This is uncomfortable," he said at length, leaning down to pick at the pants that were weighted with ocean water and sand. While in that position, he scooped water in his hands and splashed Aric in return, a brief, mischievous smile flickering over his features.

As Nolan placed the shell into his palm he felt such a sense of elation at the gift. The shell was beautiful! But what made Aric most happy was the thought behind the offering. The fact that Nolan decided to give it to him. And as he was fixated on the bright oranges and swirls, he quickly discovered in himself that he liked that gesture very, very much.
The change of expression as he splashed water at Nolan made him all the more excited, taking a moment to slip the shell into his pocket and eagerly walking closer to the dragon child. Yet the words that his new companion uttered were not exactly what he had hoped. "Uncomfortable?" he said as he tilted his head to the side in confusion as well, pouting a little at the unfavorable response, not really sure of what he meant by that.
He followed the male's dark blues down to his body, eyeing him curiously and wanting to understand--to know what he was thinking. "Well! Maybe you just need time to---" he abruptly stopped when the cool water was splashed at his warm skin, looking over to the red-head in quiet surprise. "Hey!!" A slow grin crept on his boyish features, bending over to take as much water as he could in his hands and throwing it at Nolan's direction, laughing as he did this. It seemed he did like it after all!

With his 'sneak attack' a success, the dragon let loose the first carefree laugh of his existence thus far, delighted in Aric's shock. When he saw his friend dipping those golden-touched hands for more water, Nolan immediately turned tail and tried to flee down the ocean waves, the path made slow progress by the weight of the water and ebb and flow of the tide. His tail automatically (and quite accidentally) slid into the water and pulled upwards to send a long arch of water towards the sandy child, feeling the chilled liquid dribble down his back and cling to the tips of his hair. It felt good, the sensation of water -- but more than that, it felt good to have fun.
Grey pants now thoroughly splattered up to his waist line, he tried not to go any deeper, instead turning when he could to drag his soaked gloved hand through the surface of the water, skimming the waves and tossing it towards the golden-haired Aric. His mirth was briefly severed when his clawed foot found a shell -- an upright one, and sharp, nestled safely between his claws and missing the soft underflesh of his heel -- making him hop in the water on one foot while the other lifted, producing the unicorn horn shell and plucking it from between his dark talons with mingled ire, interest and bemusement. It seemed his good mood had him a bit baffled on how to act.
"Time out!" he cried out with a ghost of a grin, settling his weight and showing the angular shell. "A peace offering!" Nolan held out the shell that was colored burnt sunrise at the widest and faded into a softer cream towards the tip. "It tried to help you, must be one of your followers."

The laughter that rang in his ears further made his own amusement more apparent. He had made the boy laugh! And as simple as that was he felt so proud of himself, flashing a huge grin in quiet victory at this yet also still at attention of the little game that they were playing. Aric moved slowly against the water not unlike Nolan, yet he had an upper hand that even he did not realize. The sand beneath his feet somehow became less dense as his bare feet touched it, supporting his weight and giving him a more solid support in contrast to the others clawed limbs sinking into the ocean floor. He found himself closer to the dragon boy yet despite all that he wasn't prepared for the boy's long tail moving the water towards him in a sudden action.
"Ah!!! No-lan!" He exclaimed abruptly, turning his head to the side as more waves of water touched at his skin, making the youth laugh in good humor as the droplets moved down his face and glitter atop his bright locks. How he loved this! The momentary pause of the other did not faze him, however, taking this moment to gather energy to run and lunge up at the dragon boy. "No time out---!" was his answer, not even thinking of waiting and hearing the rest of the other male's proposition.
And so he did just that, the sand giving him a solid foundation as he threw himself at the red-head who was holding a bright shell up in front of him ---- making his bright blue eyes widen in wonder. Yet it was too late, he already had his arms wide open, waves of water rippling around them and splashing around up in the air with the sudden jump and drastic movement.

It happened quickly, and yet it all seemed to stretch out to comical lengths, slowed to the point Nolan could see what was happening but was helpless to move or prevent it. His words were discarded and he could tell by Aric's uncanny speed that running wasn't an option; that boy meant to lunge at him for some purpose, though for the life of him, the dragon could not fathom what! He barely moved the pointy shell out from in front of himself (if he impaled his new friend on a seashell, he'd never forgive himself) before the full weight of sopping wet sand crashed into him with all the heft of an angry ocean wave.
The dragon was heavy. He had more heft to him than most would realize, but in his tentative stance in unfamiliar territory, the desert boy had an eternal advantage over the reptile. Aric's body collided with his, high up enough that Nolan could feel his back bow backwards with the effort to take out the shock of the suddenness of it. He couldn't right his balance, however; his tail swayed wildly as he took several falling steps backwards - falling in the sense that he was simply delaying the inevitable. Gravity and centripetal force won out, and graceless, Nolan fell backwards and took Aric with him, landing on his back with wings out stretched in a last-ditch effort to save himself and his new friend.
Surprisingly, the wet sand was forgiving to the sudden force of their combined weights, not exactly pillow-soft but yielding enough that Nolan felt little of the abrasive fall through his spine. Laying on his back in the wet sand, the ocean waves lapping around them but shallow enough to not splash over them, Nolan stared up at the blonde with wide, bewildered eyes. The contact was entirely foreign, but the act of it was surprisingly warm and soothing. With his irises constricted around even more slender pupils, the dragon tilted his head in the sand to better look at Aric, his arms still secure so the blonde wouldn't fall off after his grandiose gesture, the seashell still clutched in his fist. "Do you not want it, then?" he asked, entirely baffled, his expression shifting between somber apology and a strange thrill of excitement that demanded a toothy grin.

Next thing Aric knew, they were on the ground with his arms wrapped around the boy, laughing loudly at the unexpected situation. He kept his weight comfortably on Nolan, the arms around him not bothering him at all since his own arms were wrapped around the other in desperate attempt to not crash into the water just seconds ago.
His brilliant blues filled with mirth gazed down at the darker ones. The gentle crashing waves around them felt good but not as good as the wet sand that still touched on his feet. He loved what he was feeling, all his senses in harmony. The blonde felt energized and excited for some strange reason, the surroundings making him easily content. Perhaps it was because it was the first day he could be 'free' and allowed outside--or maybe because the environment felt so--friendly to him, as if the ground was his friend. He quickly found out that somehow, he was in sync with this place.
The other's bewildered expression almost made him start chuckling again but he settled down, taking a hand and pushing back the stray hair from Nolan's face, subconsciously trailing up to touch the boy's small horns in more curious wonder. "Mm?" His grin was still settled on his youthful features as he shook his head. "I want it, I do!" he exclaimed. Laughing as he slowly sat up, he extended his palms to Nolan, an eager brilliance in his smile as he awaited the token the other was to give him.

The dragon's pupils constricted and expanded, filtering in the sunlight that was nearly blinding through the desert boy's equally golden hair, watching the way Aric's expression was both at peace and entirely filled with joy. The sheer weight of the boy's exuberance was winding, and seeing all his thoughts and feelings play out over those dark features was as confusing as it was enthralling to Nolan. He almost felt like his face couldn't move as much as Aric's, and that the blonde was expressing feelings for both of them since he was so limited.
Curling his tail out of the water and pressing the underside of it against Aric's back, he unfurled his clawed fingers and pressed the unicorn-horn shell against the expectant palm. "This one attacked me," Nolan offered in a grave tone as he released the shell, "so take good care of it. Brave shell."
The dragon's head lifted suddenly out of the water, cocking his head to the side -- and then backwards, the top of his head pressed into the wet sand. "I hear our names." Nolan sounded perplexed before recognizing the voice -- it was his caretaker's. It was Tesla. Her warning came back to him and as the water seeped through his pants, the dragon could offer only a distant smile to his musings. Poor woman. She wasn't going to be thrilled about this.
"Are you hungry?" he inquired as he lifted his head and finally sat up, holding his hands out to the child perched in his lap so he might help Aric stand. It was time to go back in, it seemed, and though it was the first time he'd met another, he was still disappointed that the time had to come to a halt so quickly.

"Brave shell," he laughed, touching it's rough spine carefully with his thumb. "I won't let it attack you again, and you and it will be safe with me!" Aric exclaimed, not really realizing he was already shamelessly claiming the other boy to be with him. He innocently assumed that's how it was to be from this moment.
From this close quarters the boy could see Nolan's face more clearly, bright blues glancing down at the scales that decorated his skin--how the beautiful shiny objects actually grew on him. He knew it was because Nolan was something special like he. Yet his thoughts came to a halt when their names were called, noting it was the pretty girl's voice that was looking for them. Yet it was too soon for him, his full lips forming into a pout and obviously not ready to leave the comfort of this sea and of his friend.
Nevertheless, Aric was satisfied that at least he managed to explore a part of this vast area before his guardian usually pulled him out of his adventures. Not once giving a thought that his damp appearance would cause any trouble to his own guardian. "Hm?" he lifted his eyes to the darker blues---which reminded him somewhat of the deep sea. "Sort of! Are you?" he happily took the helping hands offered to him and pushed himself up with the aid of Nolan, his smile never faltering.
And the voices grew louder, the sunny blonde looking over to the direction of the two humans and releasing one of Nolan's hands to wave at them. Of course even from a distance Elias didn't really look pleased with what he was seeing at all --which Aric couldn't understand! Still holding Nolan with one hand he entwined his fingers in the others, looking back at him. "Come on, Nolan!" With no warning he pulled the other towards their guardians, carefree and not dwelling about how their time was cut short. He looked back at the red-head as he ran with him, the curiosity and interest still clear in his expression. He wouldn't let him go easily, they met in a dream after all and perhaps tonight he would meet him again.
