He frowned, looking thoughtful. "Yeah, you might have a point," he admitted. "But hell, I'm sixteen. I like to party. And by stayin' single I can have a hell of a lot more fun, if you ask me." Briefly a strange expression entered his eyes as he remembered something, then he shook it off with a grin.
"But you DO realize you're gonna have problems with your pal if you keep hanging out with me, don't you? Look, I can introduce you to a lot of people that he probably wouldn't have problems with," he told her, digging out his phone again and bringing up his list.
"A's... Amrita would be good! Chuppi, although she might have a problem with HIM... And there's Circe, she's a bit clingy, though, and Danny, don't know any E's--oh, wait, Edel got a phone recently!--and Freya's out... G would be awesome, Hel would be great, I know a guy named Isra, but not well enough to have his number--"

Lark's face dropped when Roch mentioned Freya.
Ughh.
"I gotta go to some dinner or somethin' with Freya and Kettil and Freya's big boilfriend. First time I slapped eyes on 'im I laughed right in Ket's face." She shook her head.
"I promised Ket I'd try hard t'b'nice, though." She didn't sound like she wanted to, not at all. "'sides, what room does Ket have t'talk when he's try'n t'be pals with Freya." Lark looked annoyed.
"Ain't like I can't make m'own friends, neither, Roch." Was he trying to get rid of her? It kind of felt like he was, almost.

That would be because he WAS trying to get rid of her. Nicely, since he liked her well enough, but he'd feel guilty about killing off her best friend were there a fight... no, not really. But towards her, he would. Then he noticed something.
"Jack, that ain't fair," he said. "Forcing you to spend time with someone YOU don't like just because he likes them. Do you do that to him, too?"

"Gonna be honest with ya, Roch." Her brows arched deviously as she peered at him, an impish grin on her face.
"Kinda lookin' forward to seein' Freya squirm at this dinner. I ain't jest goin' cuz Ket wants me to. I got my own reasons."
Her own terrible, horrible reasons.
"Besides. I ain't real convinced that Kettil still has feelin's for Freya." She was probably revealing too much. Maybe she should shut up.
"S'hard to say."

"Mmmm, alright," Roch said, grinning slightly. "But word of warning, don't punch her in front of her boilfriend, I ain't gonna be there to cover your a**."

Lark snorted.
"She ain't given me a reason t'sock her again."
Yet. Lark wouldn't be surprised if Freya gave her a good reason soon enough.
"Now, I ain't makin' no promises that I ain't gonna stomp on 'er foot under th'table."
She was half-joking, half-serious.
"I ain't in need of no ... a**-coverin', anyhow."
That was said in all seriousness.

"No, see, I'd believe that if it was you against Freya. But Herryk's a second year," he told her. "Be careful, that's all I'm sayin'. But whatever," he said with a shrug. "As long as it ain't me stuck there. That time in the couch room--"
He made a face and shook his head. "Forget about it. Have fun on your double date!"

Jackin' boils. Jackin' jerks, all of them. If he'd wanted to get rid of her, mission accomplished.
"I dunno what's gotten into you, Roch. I wasn't mad before 'bout th'scene at th' assembly, and I ain't mad about that now." Lark grunted and narrowed her eyes. She wasn't sure what his problem was, but she wasn't real interested in figuring it out.
"But I don't know why yer actin' like such a jackin' s**t right now, t'me." She threw up her hands and marched towards his dorm room door, stomping a foot as she swung it open. Lark gave an annoyed sound before turning to glare over her shoulder at the boil.
"And it ain't a double date!"
She stepped out and slammed the door behind her.
