"Well it did...crash. It could easily be something exploded a little, or fraying wires. Things like that. Until we find a source it's probably nothing to worry about unless we see gas or something, you know?" Candace didn't want to completely disregard it but she didn't want to focus on the burning smell. It could be anything. But at Molly's suggestion she looked very curious, humming quietly and looking back her and Deryk's way. "If we do find one do either of you know how to use one? My knowledge extends as far as it's an orange box that records the cockpit conversation." She did wonder why it was called a black box when it was orange but she didn't care enough to really dig around for the answer. She stopped as Molly pointed another oddity out, turning on her heel to look around at the snow. Strange... "..It actually kind of looks like when a snake is travelling over sand in the Sahara desert. Do you see it?" Candace traced the pattern in the air with her hand, taking out her phone to take a picture of the snow patterns. Nothing normal here should make patterns like that. She smiled at Molly. "Good find~."Candace made a face against the smell as she approached the plane, pulling her scarf up over her nose and mouth. External Missions Article Headline: Five missing in plane crash in Alaska. *Article contents: Five people have been reported as missing, after a small plane crashed in the northern woods in Alaska, with no sign of their bodies to be found, including that of the pilot. Moving to get a closer look at the marks on the ground, Deryk nodded at Candace's assessment of it.
"Sidewinder. Yes. Does seem kinda like that. Should definitely be no sidewinders out here though. Far too cold," he frowned. The Death trainee decided to take a chance and step inside, moving around the seats to see if he could spot anything useful. And he did!
"Hey. There's some hair here," he said while picking up one of the strands. It was rather thick, "Also uh.. the seats should not have mold right?"

Molly nodded her head at Candace’s advice, looking a bit more worried at the prospect of it being a gasoline smell, but carried on regardless. They had a job to do!
The young woman looked dismayed about the matter regarding the black box though. “No…” She murmured, “I wouldn’t even know what to do with it if we found it…” She did looked a bit pleased though at being complimented by their leader. She did something good, yay! “S…snakes?” Molly echoed, looking around at the wave patterns some more. Oh dear. The Mist trainee circled around the larger part of the wreck, noting that these strange wave patterns happened all around it. “…Miss Candace, they happen all the way around the plane!” That was important to announce, right?
She perked up as Deryk called to them from inside the plane, and she cautiously made her way towards the wreck, peeking in through one of the door ways worriedly. “Hair?” She echoed. Was…was this like CSI!? With that thought in mind, Molly pulled her bag off of her shoulders and dropped it into the snow, digging through it before she produced an empty plastic sandwich bag. Hey, did she make sandwiches, and yes, she did pack extra baggies. “H…here you go, Deryk!” She called out to the Death trainee, waving the plastic baggy at him. Evidence! “…And…mold? Doesn’t that…only happen when something sits for a really long time or is wet?”

Candace climbed into the plane after Deryk, pulling her scarf down enough to sniff around. Was the smell really coming from here? It was starting to overwhelm her. It was the only thing she could notice, apparently. What is this s**t. She was trying to find the source of the smell when she heard Deryk's voice over the headset. Hair? Mold? Now that was something worth noting. She turned to check it out, placing a hand on one of the seats. "...How long has this plane been here? This doesn't seem right." She took out her phone again to get another picture of the mold and the hair. "It can't have been long. Everything is still rather fresh. Weird.."
Wave patterns, an overwhelming burning smell, mold and hair. This made no sense. "I wonder if--oh!" Molly had sandwich baggies! How great! Candace grinned with pride and resisted the urge to pat her on the head like a child who had done well. "Good find..oh! Hey! Is this the black box?" Candace climbed over the seats to reach for a bright orange device that was more comparable to a bomb than a box. "I don't know how these work...do either of you?"

((nuthin new))
Grinning towards Molly, Deryk went ahead and dropped the hair into the baggie.
"Oh! We should take a mold sample too. Perhaps it can tell us more with analysis. The life hunters should be able to break it down, yes? Yes. I think so," he nodded. Though, he didn't really want to touch the mold. It looked kinda nasty.
At Candace's little find, he crawled over to where she was to examine the black box.
"Never had a chance to work with one of these before. With some time, I might be able to figure out a way to tap into the data it has. Should have something, yes? Perhaps we should bring this back as well. May hold valuable secrets."

Molly still looked like she didn’t want to get in the plane…but seeing Candace and Deryk move around in it…it seemed safe enough, right? The young woman scrunched up her nose at that smell once more, and reluctantly, carefully, climbed into the plane as well. She gingerly took some steps over to the seats, bending over to get a better look at them as the other two dealt with the black box.
She was glad it was still in the plane…and not…you know, buried in the snow outside.
A mold sample, huh? How…should she collect a mold sample? Molly frowned, staring down at one of the seats, and she took her bag off of her shoulder once more, and dug through it until she found a swiss knife. How did she have all these things? Well, it said mission to Alaska, so she god damn packed for Alaska. It was like camping kinda? “I’m so sorry…” She muttered to no one in particular as she cut into one of the seats and took a patch of it, dropping it into another plastic bag.
“Got a mold sample!” She announced.

Candace couldn't help but feel very excited when Deryk suggested getting a mold sample and Molly took the honor of cutting one out and bagging it. She nearly squealed with delight just watching her do it. "Mm! I can take the hair to Clarice and ask for her help analyzing it. Molly can take care of the mold...I wonder if maybe the cold is why the mold grew so quickly. That'd make sense.." Candace hummed thoughtfully, watching Deryk examine the box.
Never had a chance? Wait...did...did Deryk have experience with things like this? Candace's eyes widened.
"Bring in other trainees that are knowledgeable -- I don't care at this point what division they are."
Deryk was knowledgeable holy shiiiiit! "Oh my god Deryk. That would be amazing. Molly and I will take care of the mold and the hair and we'll leave the black box to you, okay? We need to learn how to do things other divisions do anyway. Using the labs could help a lot, Molly." Candace said with a proud smile. Anything to help a fellow mist trainee succeed. This was the perfect opportunity for them. Let Deryk work on something he actually knew a little bit about, and let them continue with research. It was a win/win for everybody! "There's no way they didn't talk about what was making their plane crash."
...Mmmmmm~. Atropos suddenly purred, her rings glowing brighter. Candace blinked, looking down at her hands. What? Delicious. ...Eh? What was she-- Can't you feel it? That delectable trace of FEAR? It's rather strong, too. Maybe it'll come back~. Ohhh I hope it does. I'm always hungry for more.
Candace's eyes suddenly widened. "...Out. Out out out. We're done. Hair, mold, black box, pictures, observations. We're done. Time to get home." This was a survey mission. A survey mission. She was going to avoid making them fight a needless battle if she could help it. Candace quickly climbed out a giant hole in the side of the plane that was probably once a door out of the cockpit, hopping down into the snow and waiting for Deryk and Molly to follow.

"Sounds good to me! Bit different from working with a normal computer so might take me some time to figure out how to crack it. Will do what I can though," Deryk nodded while looking over the black box. He was pretty excited about trying to tinker with it really. Technology! He has it!
Though, when Candace got urgent all off the sudden, he blinked and looked between her and Molly.
"Huh? So soon? What for? We might be able to find more maybe. Something up?" he asked.

Molly was feeding off of Candace’s excitement as she carefully tucked the bag of mold away into her bag, shoulder it once more. She smiled as she looked between her and Deryk, listening to her speak about what they should do with their samples. Molly looked a little unsure about testing the mold in the labs…but if Candace was going to be there too, she felt better. The young woman nodded her head in agreement, but as the good-feeling atmosphere suddenly sobered, Molly’s face fell, and Vaska seemed uncomfortable in the back of her mind.
“..D…done?” She echoed, “But…Miss Candace…what about the people?” Couldn’t they go and find them now? Regardless of her hesitation, she followed the Mist trainee out, hopping down into the snow as a frown pulled at her lips.

"Atropos got a taste of fear. We're leaving." Candace was being firm and urgent, frowning as she helped Molly down if the woman needed it. She waited for Deryk to join them before taking a picture of the hole they had just climbed out of. Everything was important, anything could be a clue. "I'd rather not fight something we're not prepared for when it's just the three of us, you know? No use fighting needless battles." If only some of their leaders shared that sentiment every now and then. Why set themselves up for failure? That was so terribly counterproductive. She didn't want to risk getting Deryk and Molly hurt for absolutely no reason when their purpose here was to survey and collect information.
Molly's worry brought up a pang of guilt in Candace's stomach as she gave the younger trainee a sympathetic frown. "There's nothing we can do for them just yet. We need to know what we're getting into before we attempt any kind of rescue. We have the wave patterns, we have hair, we have a trace of fear and this mold sample. We also have the black box." She smiled, trying to cheer her up as she reached out with a gloved hand to gently tug and pull one of her pretty ringlet curls and make it spring back into shape. "This is just a survey mission. What if whatever did this comes back and it's too much for us to handle? It could be disastrous." Candace draped an arm around Molly's shoulders, giving her a gentle squeeze. "You did well, Molly. It's okay. I'm sure we'll find the people that were in this."
Somehow Candace doubted this. But she would say anything to give Molly hope. "Let's go back before we freeze now, okay?" Candace grinned at Molly and Deryk now, reaching over to link arms with the man and leading him and Molly back toward the door waiting to bring them back to the lighthouse on the isle of Deus Ex.

At the mention of fear, Deryk glanced around. Tooley hadn't picked up on anything, but it was probably better to be safe than sorry.
"Ah. Yes. Best get going. Don't know how many creatures could have been here earlier. Could have been one. Or many. We should leave," he agreed, now knowing this. Clutching onto the black box, he started to make his way back to where the portal was with the others.
"Hopefully samples will be good evidence. Yes?" he asked.

What Candace was saying made a lot of sense. It really did…but there was that nagging, horrible guilt welling up in Molly. That feeling that they were leaving people behind who needed them. Molly did it once. She left someone behind who needed her, and well…she knew the outcome of that.
It was why she was here after all.
Molly looked visibly upset, and tears started to well up, though she tried her hardest not to cry. Not in front of a superior! They were still doing a job, but ugh, it was tearing her up on the inside, leaving the area. Still, orders were orders and well…if the lead said they needed to move out…then they needed to move out. The young woman sniffled, reaching up to wipe at her face with a gloved hand. “Y…yes ma’am!” She answered after a moment. “…Th…thank you for the support. I really appreciate it.” Still, it did not lessen that horrible sinking feeling. Molly still couldn’t help but look every which way as they made it back to the portal, an arm wrapped tightly around Candace’s waist for support and comfort.

"They should be fine. I got pictures, we've got these samples, and the box." Hm, she already said that. Oops. But even as she said this her attention was on Molly, watching and intently studying her face as she walked with the two other trainees. She actually looked upset. But why? What was going through her head? Did she really care that badly about people she'd never even seen a picture of before? That was so sweet of her, she must have a big heart. Hopefully she wouldn't be that way when it came to fighting the denizens of Halloween.. She smiled gently and gave Molly's shoulder another affectionate squeeze. "Don't worry, we'll find them. It would be foolish to go in search of them without knowing where to go or what we're going to possibly encounter. Would we need more than three people? Would we need to take advantage of a certain time of day? What if we need special assistance?" Candace gave the girl a kiss against her temple as she heard her sniff and saw her wipe her eyes. "Don't fret, darlin'. We'll bring them back safe and sound." Truth be told Candace wasn't feeling as optimistic as she let on. Whatever had made this plane crash had been big if the trail in the snow meant anything, and the burning just had to be a dying fire. She didn't want to see Molly sad. She was a sweet girl, and this was just a survey mission. "You two did well. I think this mission was a huge success. Hopefully we get to be part of the follow up, hmm?" She grinned now, letting the two of them enter the doorway back to Deus Ex first. Candace followed closely behind.
