Oh jack.
Oh no.
Rikki's heart stuttered as he watched Danny visibly turn in on herself. They way she held herself, like she was afraid of breaking there in front of him. Why had he said that? Granted, it was normal for him to just blurt out nonsense insults that he didn't really mean, but he'd tried to avoid that with Danny. Mostly because he really did not mean them. He didn't think Danny was stupid. Innocent, a little slow on the uptake, maybe, but at least she was fun. He cared about her more than to just insult her like that.
So why had he just done it?
He tried to race after her. His hand wrapped around her arm and he pulled her gently around. "Danny I didn't mean it. I'm sorry."

"But you said it!" she retorted, not embracing him like she normally would, "You said it which means you thought it!" Her voice was slowly rising, slowly growing more shrill. She took a few deep breaths.
Rikki had halted her, but Danny was stronger than him. She pulled her arm out of his grip, holding it close to her chest. "No," she said a bit quieter, not looking him in the eyes anymore. She couldn't do it while those orange pupils stared at her so seriously. "You meant it," she said quietly to herself- so quiet that it was barely audible. It was as if she was trying to make the words her more.
Shaking her head she cracked, "I ... I can't be your ghoulfriend anymore." She didn't add "because I'm not good enough," but it was hanging in the air so thickly that it didn't NEED to be said. Even as the words slipped out of her mouth, she regretted them, but she didn't have time to regret.
Because she was already running away from the scene of the crime. Danny had turned around and just started running. Somewhere in her mind she remembered she had class, but her thoughts were so jumbled that she couldn't find the right place to put it. She just ran, and ran, and ran all the way to her room.

Nyyrikki froze. He went entirely motionless. Even his thoughts felt sluggish as what Danny had just said sunk so deep into his brain that he could feel a headache starting.
I can't be your ghouldfriend anymore.
Had she really just said that? Of course she had. He'd been a jerk, and he was getting what he deserved. But he really hadn't meant it. Before he could try to change her mind, try to tell her that he was sorry and he didn't believe she was stupid, she was running off down the hall. He watched her retreating form with a deep frown.
...He'd just been broken up with.... Unable to fully process the though, he turned to head back his dorm for the rest of the day, feeling numb.
