Although the kiss in itself was more than just pleasant, Zurine had only rarely had those of her own kind accept her so sweetly, and the blush of sweet happiness lingered on her pale cheeks. She definitely wanted to make sure that she cultivated this friendship, watering it with care like Phiel did the ferns on the balcony -- okay, so it was a silly metaphor, but she meant it. Slowly, she calmed herself a bit, her feathers settling back into place and her composure returning a bit. It was an important thing to know, though, that not everyone was uncomfortable to touch -- and that she didn't always hurt people with her own frigid temperature. She had to be careful, though, still -- but she would indeed be willing to share kisses again.
Smiling up at him when he said her name, Zurine blinked a little as she surfaced from her own thoughts. "I'm alone right now," she clarified softly. Phiel, as far as she knew, was still dozing sick in the bookstore, but she followed his gaze to his own guardian. She'd never met this 'Neeta woman, but she supposed that if Anita was the person taking care of Cruz, she must be well worth meeting. Her smile was surprisingly warm and sweet.
"Phiel is sleeping in the bookstore," she said softly, "He's... ill. But I will meet your Neeta! We can go see Phiel after?" She tilted her head, a hopeful little look on her face. She didn't want to let go of her new friend quite so soon...

Her smile was a pleasant surprise. Though Cruz could tell she was sweet and kind, it was obvious to him she was very unsure when it came to herself. It was difficult for him to comprehend, but he supposed it was understandable given her constantly low temperature. Even so, he couldn't help feel a twinge of pity for the poor girl; she was so warm inside and yet it could not come out physically. If she had normal body heat like Anita, he would have quickly taken her hand. Out of habit, he still made the move to but stopped as soon as his fingertips felt the gentle chill of her aura. He paused, hand out, before retracting it and forcing an embarrassed laugh.
"Ill," he repeated, lifting a hand up to nibble on the tip of a nail, "Do not know ill." Despite never hearing the word before, he felt it was something... unpleasant. Though Anita was ill herself, she always used the term 'sick'.
At Zurine's agreement, he waved any curiosity of the word away and beamed at her with delight. "Yes, yes," he rumbled assuredly, "See Phiel after." With that, he eagerly floated passed through the throngs of people, pausing here and there to check that that the icy frei was keeping close. It was difficult for him, not being able to hold her hand, and his fingers felt empty because of it. They fidgeted, thumbs running over the fabric of his gloves anxiously, balling into fists and then going limp. It only took a few moments of navigating through the busy mall in order to return to his Anita's side. She had finished her meal by the time they reached her and was in the process of wiping her fingers on a napkin.
"Neeta," he purred with delight, floating a bit higher and straightening his posture, "This is Zoo-reen." Once more, he cherished every syllable of her exotic name and drew his pronunciation of it out. "Zurine is alone now. Her Phiel is sleeping in books." His attempt at repeating the information she just imparted to him was less than stellar, but he only seemed to realize he messed up the last word. People couldn't sleep in books, that was silly! It made Anita laugh, though, so he grinned despite himself.
Folding up the napkin while chuckling, Anita tucked it into the styrofoam container her burger came in and closed it, setting it beside her. This Raevan was certainly a sight, but judging by their successful kiss and how they were both smiling, it was safe to say she was kind. "Hello, Zurine," she chimed, standing up and tucking the empty container under one arm. The other was held out, gesturing for a hand shake, "I'm Anita and I'm guessing you already know Mr. Suaze's name."
Cruz tilted his head, pouting slightly. "Mr. Suave?" Was there someone he had yet to be acquainted with?
"You, silly."
"Am not suave. Am Cruz."
She would have to explain the joke to him later but now was hardly the time. Anita just shook her head and laughed under her breath. "So your guardian is... Phiel?" she gave a quick glance to Cruz for confirmation -- he just beamed at her once the topic was back on his new friend, "I don't think I've met them before. I know I haven't met you. It'd be impossible to forget someone so... blue." As she spoke, it was obvious her throat was a bit scratchy and her sinuses were stuffed. Even her eyes were a little red and puffy, similar symptoms to Phiel's own cold but hers seemed far less detrimental than his.

Though Zurine had not met many people, she was equal parts nervous and excited to meet Anita. She followed Cruz -- if he'd been able to hold his hand it would have been easier, but that bobbing green ponytail was pretty hard to lose. She kept pace with him okay, even in the crowded mall, fluttering her wings to keep up with him.
By the time they reached Cruz's guardian, Zurine was smiling a little nervously, chewing on her lower lip. Cruz's cutely mixed-up statement of the facts made her relax a little bit though, into a little shy laugh. "H-hello Anita. It's good to meet you..." She carefully put her cold little hand in Anita's, light and dainty, to shyly shake hers. She didn't really know what 'suave' meant either, but she'd ask Phiel later too. If he was well enough! That thought put a little worry in her chest, tightening it and furrowing her brows a little bit.
"Phiel is sick and sleeping in the book... place..." She floated a little closer to Anita. "But it is good to meet you too! I... I just wish Phiel was here to meet you too!" She smiled a little, between Cruz and Anita.

"It's good to meet you, too," Anita smiled to the chilly frei as their hands touched, her own grip gentle but the action overzealous with familiarity. The sudden cold from her body gave her a jolt and her grip loosened with a quick "oh!" of surprise before she chuckled and finished off the handshake. Pulling her hand back and wiggling her fingers, she glanced to Cruz with a half smile and he grinned back with a shrug. "Guess you're right at home this season, huh?" she grinned, passing by the two Raevans to throw out the remnants of her trash.
Zurine's next words expanded greatly on Cruz's poor and short summary of her guardian's situation and Anita turned back with a mild look of concern. "He's sick?" If he was out and about to go to the mall then he probably wasn't deathly ill or needing to be bed ridden but this situation didn't sound very good. She couldn't say how old or mature Zurine was mentally but as a frei Anita still likened her to a child, just like Cruz. Giving a small sniffle of her own cold addled nose, she offered a hand to her charge who took it eagerly. "Would you like us to take you back to him? We were actually going to leave in a minute but we've got time."
The crocodile frei's eyes lit up with delight. He knew what their schedule and plan was. If Zurine hadn't come floating by, they would have left already more likely than not. Cruz gripped his guardian's hand warmly and offered a reassuring smile to Zurine. Had it not been for her temperature he would have taken her own hand long ago, but it couldn't be helped -- he just hoped she understood and wasn't too upset by this fact.
"Want to meet Phiel," Cruz announced plainly, glancing to Anita with small bit of pleading in his eyes.
Anita gave him a playfully skeptical look before reaching out and brushing his bangs messily into his face. "Do you think that'd be alright, Zurine? Sleeping in a book store's probably not a good idea, sick or not. They might try to kick him out, so you should head back to him soon anyway." She smiled while Cruz attempted to fix his bangs just by blowing air at them and using only one hand.

Though Zurine wasn't used to that overzealous motion, she hadn't pulled away, and she ducked her head a little. She was right at home during the winter, yes, but since her favorite people weren't it was a moot point. She nodded though, agreeing to visit Phiel. "It would be all right, yes," she allowed softly. And it was a good idea to have another human being look at him! Maybe they could tell Phiel something that she couldn't, or maybe they could convince her stubborn guardian to ask someone for help, though she had never known him to do that as long as she had known him.
"C-can you follow me? I think I can find my way back..." She floated ahead a little bit, looking back at them and smiling. The crowded mall was still easy to navigate, for someone with eyes as keen as hers. Zurine could pick out little landmarks she could remember, and besides that the bookstore wasn't that far away.

Anita took note that Zurine seemed reserved. She wasn't sure if it was shyness per se, or maybe she was young and didn't have much to say, but she took the hint that extensive conversation probably wasn't going to be achieved with her -- at least right now. "Lead the way," she announced pleasantly, then gave another sniffle. The mall wasn't huge and there were only a couple different book stores, so if Zurine got turned around it would be easy enough to navigate or even find a map. That might even be beneficial so she could teach Cruz how to read it, and Zurine too if she didn't already know.
Though his hand was still holding onto one of Anita's, Cruz floated in front of her so he could be closer to the icy frei. Being point man was sort of lonely, he imagined, since you had to be up front instead of next to people, and she didn't seem to mind the proximity. It was comforting to him, too, since he couldn't outright touch her for more than a few seconds, so this was the next best thing.
There were a few moments of silence between the three of them as they moved through the crowds. Cruz found this unpleasant and generally not fun, as he quite enjoyed conversation and the sound of Zurine's voice. Of course he liked hearing Anita speak but since she was sick it seemed to be uncomfortable for her and often resulted in coughing. "Zurine," he purred to get her attention, "Like books? Can Zurine read?"

Leading didn't bother Zurine, but she was glad when Cruz floated in closer; she smiled a little bit. So few people actually made the effort to be close to her due to her coolness -- and even though it seemed to be uncomfortable for him, it was touching that he did try. When he spoke, though, she lifted her head to listen, and smiled a little.
"Yes," she murmured thoughtfully. "I read... a little. Not as much as I want to." A faint, pale flush rushed across Zuri's pale cheeks, and she ruffled her feathers a bit. "Do you read? I like... ah..." She thought a moment, trying to come up with the words, snapping her fingers lightly until she came up with the words. "Ah! Fairy stories? Is that the word? I think it is..."
The bookstore was not far away, but in the press it was easy to get a little turned around; Zuri's keen eyes were open to follow the signs over top of everyone else's heads.

When she smiled at his approach, he knew he had made the right decision. That alone caused Cruz to inch closer, just a little, every few steps until he could feel the slight radiation of her chilled aura. Only then did he back off but it was only enough to where he couldn't detect it any longer, just a few paces back from her shoulder. He watched with interest as she snapped to try and jog her memory, eyes lighting with a smile when it seemed to work and she found her words. Her ruffling feathers were adorable. Cruz's wings flared in response.
"That's right," Anita confirmed. She was trying not to butt into their conversation too much, if at all, but Cruz wasn't exactly well versed in the English language just yet, even less than Zurine seemed to be. "Fairy tales, usually, but either's fine."
"Fairy's have tails?" Cruz looked back at Anita questioningly. She just shook her head laughing so he turned back to Zurine. "No. Learning. Neeta reads me to sleep." He looked towards the ceiling, front teeth lightly drawing across his bottom lip as he, too, searched for the right words to describe the book they were currently getting through. "A mystery? Wiiiith a bear... and a tiger."
"Tigger."
"Tigger. Lost their piggy friend."

Zuri appreciated the closeness -- it felt nice to her, no matter that there was a couple paces between them. "Oh! Tigger?" She knew about Tigger; Phiel had gotten her a Tigger plush once. It was a bit the worse for having been dragged through the surf a few times, even though Phiel had run it through the wash. "I know what a Tigger is. And a Piglet." She grinned with delight. "I have a Tigger. He's very soft..." Zurine's expression was warm and happy. Tigger had been her favorite plush until she'd gotten her penguin plush, and now she kept him neatly tucked onto her windowsill. However, she was already plotting a bit, and it showed clearly on her face. "Do you have a Tigger?" Her dark eyes twinkled with delighted mischief as she paused, watching Cruz.
