The relief that was apparent on her features confused Humusi for a moment, because he wasn't sure what there was to be relieved about. If she'd realized he'd almost stayed under for too long and had almost swallowed a big gulp of water... well he assumed the expression would be more teasing or amused or even a little concerned, but not relieved. And then came the awkward answer, as if she hadn't really changed her mind. But if she hadn't changed her mind than why was she in the water?
It hit Humusi like a rock! She had... she'd been worried about his safety, right? Right? He was tempted to ask... but what else could it have been? He had stayed under the water for a pretty long time! Ah, that thought warmed his insides! He was glad she didn't hate him! And she almost giggled even! He was hit again by the tail and grunted, trying to move his head away from whatever it was doing the hitting because he still hadn't quite caught on that a fish was- "In.. in my mane?" He asked skeptically, then moved to the bank, so he could shakeout without the threat of losing his precious 'catch'!
"Oh! Oh look what I've caught! A catfish!" He laughed happily, looking back to her with a wide grin on his face. "It's big too! See, it was worth trying! I wonder if I could do that again..." He peered at the water thoughtfully, then looked to Samehe. She'd claimed she could hunt later but... "Are you sure you're not hungry? Eating alone is kind of... sad, you know?" He certainly didn't want to eat alone, especially not while another stood by and just... watched!

Samehe was eager to get out of the water, mostly because she was suspicious about there being crocodiles nearby. If her tail hadn't gotten snapped off already, there was a chance in the future that it would be if she remained in the water. So, the spotted lioness waded out from the shallow waters, taking care to shake each limb dry and avoiding getting sand in her fur. Glancing over her shoulder, she saw that Humusi made it back to the bank with his prize. She wouldn't attribute his victory to any hunting skill, but that didn't remove the fact that it was a victory.
"I think you'll have to attribute that catch to luck. I doubt if you dunk your head in the water again another fish would swim into it." While her words may seem humorless, there at least was a smile upon her face. She was amused, but it seemed like Humusi still had a way to go to crack the shell that Samehe had encased herself in. There really was no reason for her to open up all the way with Humusi. He'd eventually go his way, and she'd eventually go her own. She was still searching for her purpose, her calling, now that she had lost it when the Mizimu fell.
"I wouldn't take your hard earned meal. Besides, I think I can provide for myself better than you can, and you look fairly hungry." A fish certainly wouldn't feed the both of them, and Samehe wanted him to enjoy his catch. He had no reason to share it with her, from her perspective.

His gaze flickered over that smile on the female's face, and it made him feel slightly better. She was very negative, wasn't she? "Well, maybe. You never know." He grinned back at her, his voice light. He wouldn't argue, though he honestly believe there was a higher possibility of a 'catching' a fish with his mane again. Even so, he thought he might practice this fishing thing.
His tail flicked and he glanced to the fish. Right. It was really small for two lions... not even a snack... and he should probably eat it soon if he didn't want it to start smelling in the sun. "Right." He stated, sounding at a loss. He couldn't force her to eat it, of course. "Well then, I will have to catch you something one day in the future." He grinned, then frowned slightly. "If our paths are ever to cross again, anyhow. By then I will be a great fisher." He winked at her. Yes, he'd be able to practice and practice, with feeding her as his goal in mind. Even if he never did see her again, Humusi thought every meeting with every lion was important.
"Maybe I should let you get back to er... whatever it was you were doing then? Maybe hunting? I'm sure the nannies could use some extra paws to take care of the cubs... um..." Well, that felt awkward. It sounded like he wanted her to go, didn't it? But he thought she was the one who probably wanted to leave. "They accept others' kindness gratefully." He hadn't meant to, he really hadn't, and luckily he'd almost mumbled it under his breath. He just couldn't help feeling... inadequate while around Samehe. He wanted to see her laugh, to have a real conversation with her he realized. He cleared his throat, his smile a little more forced than usual. "I mean, unless you'd like to stay. But as you don't want to swim... and would rather not fish... um... maybe a walk? Or you know.. whatever. We can decide later..." He was really at a loss. -end-
