Honestly, she had no idea how she did it since she was usually a light sleeper, but she had slept through her alarm, causing her to miss the initiate meeting; Gale's text woke her up through, and she hurried over to where they were supposed to meet up - magically earlier than the rest of them. Still, she kept quiet, smiling when smiled at, nodding when nodded at.
JOY withdrawal sucked.
"I say hit all the things," She grumbled, staring at the tree before managing a small grin; maybe some exercise would do her some good, "It's always a good idea to practice~" She pulled her weapon's desummoned form - a necklace - off her neck, causing it to glow for a split second before materializing as her weapon.
'Oh, don't worry. I'm sure there will be more chances in the future,' She mused, swinging the bolas above her head before bringing the heavy steel ball down on the tree, wincing when it whacked at her with its branches in retaliation, leaving a red mark on her arm.

It was unfortunate that they didn't have more time to chat when a...uh...a tree interrupted them. Eva stared at the strange creature for a moment before she held out her hand, following the others' lead and summoning her weapon. "That's a weird one for sure." Weird, but not weak, from the looks of the damage that it was inflicting on everyone.
Which, of course, included Eva herself. She swung her staff out, giving the tree a hard smack in the side, but it was quick to retaliate and send her flying with a sweep of its own branches. Eva tumbled back in the sand, though after a second of wincing, she managed to push herself back to her feet.
"Well...that was fun."

A couple other trainees arrived and he nodded at them. Wilson cracked a smile at Madison at the mention of the death division leader. “Ah, yeah. Caelius is definitely…yeah.” He chose to leave it at that. “I’m Wilson and this is Gramps.” His hand reached up to tug at the goggles hanging around his neck. He would have continued on, but a flicker of movement within the fog caught his attention. Eyes wide, he angled his head toward the tree as it fully came into view. It took him a few seconds to fully register the creature. “…it’s a tree.” He didn’t bother for any further questions as he summoned his weapon. The mask was on in seconds.
He aimed his cannons at the tree and unleashed a cloud of green gas, but he wasn’t able to do much before it creaked forward and whacked Wilson away with its prickly branches. Groaning, he sat back up and shook his head. That was lovely.

Oh what. What the hell was this. And why did it smell weirdly like pine trees? "Yeah, something weird comes at you outta the fog? Smack it before it smacks you," she declared, summoning Kouki. She drew two blades in a smooth movement. Some of the others had moved to attack before she could; she held back, watching them with narrowed eyes. Watching what the thing did.
Okay. She lunged, whipping one blade around while trying to defend with the other; the defending blade skidded on a branch, tearing free needles that whipped against Maddie's clothes and flesh. She gritted her teeth - that hurt! - but finished the movement, whacking off a chunk of greenery before jumping back, blades crossed defensively in front of her.

Aleister stared at the tree. "OH s**t" His eyes widened, "Are those even suppose to be on the island!?"
Okay now Aleister was worried he watched other people getting hurt and frowned.
<Will you stop freaking out and HIT the thing already?>
Aleister nodded as he ran forward aiming pookie towards the monster hoping to smack the tree and not miss.... unfortunately he tripped in the sand and fell on his face.
<Smooothhhh, reall smooth Al.>

"Clearly," said Gale, taking another shot at the tree. It didn't do much, instead ricocheting off of the trunk with a loud BANG. " - this isn't quite as - ow - complacent as it lets on."
Which was made blatantly obvious by the fact that their uninvited guest was fighting back - and with a lot more strength than it even appeared to have.
"Just reminds you to - ouch! - not take anything lightly. Always be on your guard."
The morose, foggy looking tree had sent a thick, firred branch whipping out, catching Gale around the stomach and sending him staggering several steps to the side.
"It's like we're fighting the bloody Whomping Willow, for crying out loud."

"I think this thing is more on guard than us. OW!"
Deryk didn't get to cut at the branches as much as the last time and only ended up getting poked all over the place by the needles. Damn those things were sharp. And he had a very close range weapon. He wasn't really sure how he was supposed to get in without getting turned into a pin cushion at the moment.
"Anyone got a better idea of how to beat this thing? might be good to know."

Otto got back to his feet, lifting his heavy weapon up again as he readied himself to take another shot. "Do ya 'spose we ask it why it's here?" He asked, somewhat sarcastically.
With great effort, Otto chucked his boomerang at the tree. Somehow, it evaded, allowing the weapon to soar swiftly around the tree. Otto didn't get a chance to catch his weapon before the tree once again knocked the boy back to the ground.

"It wants to say hello to you, Otto," said Gale airily, though he winced when another thwack from the tree nearly knocked him back off of his feet. As it was, he felt his left arm give a weak protest as he raised it, the branches having cut through the fabric of the coat.
He glanced over at Deryk.
"Probably," came the slightly cryptic answer, but his lips were quirked upwards in what might have been a hint of a smile. "You're doing pretty well though right now, I'd say."

The rifle's voice was impatient. Gale could feel the icy coldness of the barrel beginning to seep into his skin, permeating through the gloves. Jinhai thrummed again - a small, murmuring sound - and Gale rolled his eyes.
"Fine, fine."
He lifted the rifle, aimed, and shot.
The bullets exploded from the end, half a dozen of them, all encased in ice as they careened towards their target, colliding with a loud crack against the trunk and spattering ice and fir bristles across the sand.
Another smack - the tree had retaliated by indignantly whacking a branch across Gale's back and sending him sprawling forward.
"Ouch."

"This is definitely the most violent tree I've ever met, and--oh geez, are you guys okay?"
This was not directed to anyone in particular, but pretty much everyone who was present. It seemed impossible to get close to the tree--or even attack, period--without getting smacked back. Noting that Otto had just been knocked off of his feet, Eva started towards him when she suddenly flinched at the sound of Gale's rifle going off. She whirled around to face the monster and--ah. Now was their chance to take it down!
No one said that it was going to be easy, though. The branches whipped out, catching her in the side and causing her to stumble backwards. However, with the help of her staff, she managed to maintain her balance. Eva didn't hesitate, flipping Chara around so that she was blade-side up as she swung at the tree.

Strange, Otto's phone was going off. The young man got up and dug around for his cell phone, finding the message from Cass. He looked up at the ensuing battle that looked like it was coming to a close. With a shrug, he managed a short text back before pocketing the device. demon_pachabel We have it under control. I'll message back if the situation changes. Otto's texts tended to be a lot more coherent and polite than when he spoke face to face, it seemed. Then again, this was strictly business. "Guys, apparently other divisions are being attacked too."

"That's for sure." Deryk agreed with Eva, before lowering his weapon. It seemed that they had finished off their tree beast creature thing. Now that he had some time to think, he asked Tooley if she knew what it was. She didn't. That came off as a little weird to him, but he supposed that he couldn't expect her to know every FEAR creature out there.
"Wait, the other divisions? We probably should go help them out. Uh.. Lets see.. Moon is over at the dorm lounge, Sun is in the practice field, and Life is over in the life labs."
It seemed that being pulled around all the other divisions at first came in handy after all.
"All the girls in life labs are wearing nothing but pajamas and pillows too. Maybe we should help them."

Otto's eyes stilled on Deryk for a while as he rambled. The comment about the Life girls wearing pajamas made it sound like Life was having a party of some kind. Unless they were wearing baby-doll negligee, Otto wasn't interested.
However his phone went off again. "Nice plan, Nerd. But looks like every division and their grandma are helping out Life. I say we do what Death does best look for intel elsewhere."

Oh. Well then he supposed the situation was more under control than he originally thought. Frowning at the nerd comment, Deryk took a moment to try and think where exactly this creature came from. And how it got here for that matter.
"Any of your guys' weapons got any information on the tree thing? Tooley's got nothing. Never seen anything like it before. Different from ents," he asked before pausing, "For that matter, any of you get to see where it came from? Direction and whatnot."

"Oops, sorry, my hand slipped."
Gale had "accidentally" hit Otto upside the back of his head.
From their position on the beach, several meters away from the main buildings, the sounds of the alarms ringing sounded oddly distorted, Clarice's voice barely audible. But he didn't need to hear what she was saying, as Gale's cell phone - along with everyone else's - suddenly beeped loudly, the same message flashing on every screen.
"Aberrant Life Form has breached the Inner Wards. All hunters to defensive stations."
Gale snapped his phone shut, shoving it into his pocket as he regarded Deryk with a scrutinizing sort of expression. One of his gloved fingers absently rubbed against the cool metal of his rifle.
Well? Got anything for me?

"Jinhai either," said Gale. "The Division heads and the Senior staff are all off the island. They've left us - the Intermediate Hunters - in charge. That's originally why Jude, Ariane, Maddie, and I gathered you all here. But it seems like something's infiltrated Headquarters in their absence. We need to find out where, why, and how."
He narrowed his gaze a little, following the trajectory of where the tree may have come from.
"The fog's too thick to hazard a clear guess," said Gale, after a moment. He took a step back, leaning towards the other Intermediates, lowering his voice a little.
"What do you think?" he asked quietly. "Back to headquarters? Most likely we can find out more there, rather than standing out here on the beach in the open."
