"Oh thank god.." She exhaled, returning to Warden's side.

Ah, her words were just fuel for his flame. He could feel her anger and hurt wash over him, and Julien just knew. She was acting like this because he had caught something. He had caught her doing something, and so she turned everything on him to take this spotlight off of herself. He smiled at her failure and just let it wash over him. Every word, every bit of anger, all the hurt. She had betrayed him somehow, someway, and it hurt. "Well, I'd move somewhere else if you, as a runic hunter, could actually do your job. See even I, someone who barely touches these things, can do it right." He slapped his dagger in where hers had failed perfectly. In fact, it held, sealed, and did it's job more than just fine. Julien was good at what he put his mind to, but now he felt oh so cold. Dead inside, because most of his reason for living besides being a hunter was Mya. And now...well.... He lifted a hand to his headset, all while just smiling directly at her. pales "Hey Reuben, remember how I asked you to make sure my girl would be okay if anything happened to me? If she needed a shoulder to cry on or anything, to be there for her if I couldn't be because she mattered more than anything else in the world to me? Don't worry about it, she's found another shoulder to cry on. Consider yourself free from the promise buddy." Mean? Yes. Cold? Oh hell yes.
Yeah, Robert?
The pale man didn't answer Robert, and he turned slightly away from Mya as pain lanced through his chest. Emotional pain, not real pain. Their last moments together... yes. This was probably it. Something was going to tear through this portal if they couldn't stop it. But Julien wasn't failing, he was doing everything he could to keep them alive.
"I don't know Mya," he sighed a little, his voice light so that maybe the others couldn't hear," I remember it took forever for your guard to come down around me. You've slapped me, slammed doors on my face, hell, even dumped a bucket of water on my head when I first tried courting you. I could barely touch your hand without you snapping it away so fast it sounded like a whip. You didn't blush until much, much further down the line, and you're too cold to other people for them to ever affect you. So.. after almost dying myself, being squished to death in the dark, running around a maze of unknown things, almost pissing myself from what I've seen happen, to finally coming back and thinking... Mya, Mya, Mya... all I need is Mya. Everything will be fine, as long as Mya is okay, if she lives even if I die, if she'll move on after I've died... and I come to find that I'm not dead yet, and she's blushing at someone else.... well... yes. I think I have a right to be upset, end of the world or not."
He sighed again and looked around to see anyone else had failed since he had slapped his stupid runic dagger in place. Surely, if he could do this, others could too right? He had yet to even fail.

His words were like a cold slap to the face, combined with a punch in the stomach. He was being so mean, so hurtful. He'd never been like this towards her, not ever. Not even when she had rejected him, time and time again. He had always come back for more punishment, with never a cruel word to say to her. Until now. The pain of his words cut her worse then anything she'd ever felt in her life, and the icing on the cake was when he spoke into his headset towards Reuban, her own headset crackling to life so that she ended up hearing him in stereo. He couldn't mean that, he couldn't possibly. Could he? She swallowed past the lump in her throat, gasping in a breath and struggling, struggling just to hold herself together, as he continued on. He sounded so full of hurt now. It had almost been better when he had just been cold. Her eyes were pleading with his not to make her explain herself, to just let it go, but he wasn't going to. He knew her too well, it seemed, and he knew when she was trying to hide something. "It was---it was nothing, Julien. He was checking my shoulder, he was just concerned about me. Y-you haven't even asked me if I'm ok." She bit her lip, hard, trying to keep the tears back, but they came anyways. No matter, it was raining, he wouldn't be able to see it. She knew before the words were even out of her mouth though, that it wasn't going to work. She wasn't going to be able to guilt him into forgiving her. He didn't even know what he needed to forgive her for yet. She sighed, straigtening her shoulders and looking Julien straight in the eyes. It was confession time. "He kissed me." She said, trying to keep her voice from quavering. "He did it to piss me off, because I had taken his gun away. He knew it would upset me, he was trying to get a reaction from me. He is my friend, Julien, nothing more, but after what he did earlier....can you blame me for blushing at him??" She couldn't believe it. She could not believe she was having this conversation, right here, right now. It was absurd. It was just completely and utterly ridiculous. Didn't stop her from feeling like absolute s**t though. "I...I have to get this barrier up.." She mumbled, and with that she turned, and walked away. Then, with purpose, with absolute burning desire to not make herself look like a complete useless fool. she buried her dagger in the ground, and watched as the barrier finally sprang to life around it. Thank god. Status: Success! Dagger #:5ramenli in case you want to know what's going on XD

Something shrieked, a familiar shrill ringing tone far beyond the noise level of even the New Years eve crowd. Those tiny insects with their silly little items were annoying. It was even beginning to slightly hurt. Oh she wanted one, just one, as a small snack, maybe her brethren would not mind if she had just one right?
Just one snack. For now.
She forced her Fear together, in her solid form, a mimicry of a slightly dainty creature, black tattered wings folded behind her, robes, clothing, scarves, trinkets, bones clattering every step she walked.
There. That one looked absolutely delicious. With a shrill cackle, she spread both her wings around her victim, like a strange distorted vulture screeching at its carrion prize, as her clawed hand buried itself into the insect's shoulder-
- fresh red blood, blood, meat, red and so sweet, so delicate, poured into her hands as the Horsemen of Famine crudely ripped off their arm in an instant. Oh, but greater than the smell of blood, of even ripe flesh was the smell of Fear. She let the arm wither in her hand, slowly dry up and decay and turn to nothing, smiling, smiling, just smiling, her ribs heaving in delight-
- And in the same bare second, her arms grabbed her victim entirely, pulling them up, up, high up into the air, wingbeats pushing the others back. Oh this was delicious, their pain, their fear, she closed her eyes for a second longer in ecstasy before her ribs shifted into long cavernous fangs - a mouth - as she devoured the head of her victim first in one bite, cackling as she dropped the rest of the body onto the ground, next to those other insects.
It wasn't her fault if she was a messy eater, really. istoleyurvamps - Megan is DEAD. She has been devoured (partially) by the Horsemen of Famine. Feel free to post her reaction post as this happened, anything she would have yelled into the mic, her attempts to fight/ struggle/ etc etc in one post. Make this her last hurrah before moving on to her death solo Everybody Else - You have just witness one of your fellow Hunter's death (again, for many), and seen her body, her head, devoured by the Horsemen of Famine before being dropped right next to you. Feel free to post reactions accordingly, however, casualties are to be expected, the barrier daggers must still be put in place. (ie: continue with post one as ... normal as they can)

Lucas watched as Julien stormed up. Watched as Mya yelled at him. Watched her dragging him away. Didn't really matter anyways though, they weren't that close. Just hunters on a mission.
Just like the Mist hunter that had just died in front of him, beheaded. They were getting absolutely nowhere with this barrier nonsense. 10 dagger barriers may be nice, but they should have accounted for some basic barriers first. If they had had a 4 or 6 dagger barrier up would she still be alive? Would she have had a chance to strike back?
He jabbed the dagger into the ground in anger, but he wasn't the best with blades and the barrier failed. Just another day on the job.

He heard her before he saw her - heard the horrible, spine-tingling, mad laughter, the sound of something flapping, and then, as he turned, something warm and wet spattered his cheek.
Something that smelled strongly of a horrible, twisted, coppery tang.
There were black shadows stretching out across the rain soaked roads.
He did not think. Warden's fingers closed around Billie's wrist, and he yanked her towards him, pressing her face against his chest and keeping one of his arms tightly wrapped around her.
-- Horseman. --
No.
He had seen people die before - countless times, so many times he had lost count by now. Being a hunter was a dangerous profession, something that he had chosen to live as regardless.
But never had he seen anything like what had just happened.
"Don't look," came the quiet whisper, even as Warden's eyes traced the lines of blood on the ground, the rise of the creature as it soared high into the air with its victim - a hunter he did not know - and the sickening crunch a moment later as the now headless body was dropped back down onto the ground.
"GET THE BARRIER IN PLACE!" Warden shouted, his voice distorted by the rain beginning to fall harder now. He seized Billie's hand, yanked her to her feet again, feet skidding on the wet ground as he pulled her away from the remains of what had once been a human being.
Don't die. Don't leave me.
Tee? You there?
-- I'm here, Warden. --
His fingers closed around another dagger even as he heard the barrier sizzle and collapse again, the sound of his own heartbeat loud and heavy in his ears. There was a sharp clank; Warden had slammed his own dagger down, securing it firmly.

This was insane. But did he so much as complain? Of course. But not about the ten daggers that had to be set up. Oh no, Lex didn't bother to b***h about that. No, he complained about the fact that it was raining. Why, dear god why did they have to get stuck in the rain? As if fighting wouldn't be difficult enough with an injured leg. Now he had to face the possibility of his grip on his weapon failing too?
::If you put as much effort into your fighting as you did bitching, oh the wonders at how skilled you would be!::
Lex wiped a hand quickly across his face to dislodge some of the water that streaked down his body. It was pointless. He was soaked. But he shut out the heavy feeling of wet clothing. The cold that seeped into his body from being drenched. He glanced to either side, flashing a grin to Becca and a cheeky sneer to Cody. A race to see which one of them could finish with their dagger first!
That was before the shriek that had him instinctively gripping Mordy in an iron grip. His gaze followed the sounds, stomach tightening painfully as he was only able to watch. Nothing...I can do nothing... He didn't recognize the Hunter. A blessing of sorts.
"We have to work quickly." He spoke quickly in a rough yet quiet voice to his two fellow hunters.
::Less yapping. Move it, Lexington!::
Lex didn't need to be told twice. He stuck the dagger in place (a little forcefully) and stepped back. For a moment, he held his breath hoping it worked. And it did! With a huff - and a glance at Cody - Lex held his weapon in a defensive manner. Just in case. They had to be prepared for anything. Even if they weren't going to make it out of her alive... So long as those creatures go down with us.

Naibi had been watching the others most of the time, at least while placing the daggers, the whole thing had really gone by in more of a blur to her. It was new years and she paused in the thought to step back slightly. Her brow lofted as she caught a glance of Famine and just what she was doing to Megan. There was a slight lurch in her step as she moved back from the possible wrath of the creature.
Hopefully it wouldn't come after more of them. Her attention turned from the poor hunter being eaten alive to the problem on the ground. It seemed the barrier had fell again. Naibi was trying hard not to think about what just happened, every time she'd seen that it haunted her for days. What didn't bother her right that second always seemed to come back worse when she tried to sleep. Of course that didn't stop her from doing her job, even if she ended up a little sleep deprived and worse for wear after it.
She jumped when the body fell and trying to ignore it she grabbed up one of the daggers. There was a pause when she heard Warden yelling and giving a nod she moved quickly to place it. "Oh... I hope this works." She muttered.
She watched as the dagger stuck.

Megan had thoughts, dreams, wants, wishes. She had a lot of things. She also had things she severely lacked. Hence all those thoughts, dreams, wants and wishes. Megan was sure someday, if she tried hard enough, she'd have become someone of note. But when she heard the sound of something, something that was not human, not the cry of an animal, and the sight of black, tattered wings entered her vision-
Megan McLach was not someone of note. She was a runic hunter. Mist. A jack of all trades, master of none. She was not a special snowflake. She was not someone's honey bunch. She was not the best mist hunter. She wasn't perfect. Megan McLach was not someone special.
When she felt the pressure of claws in her harm, saw the red blood, her blood, well to the surface, Something inside of her realized that unlike those other times, out at her station, this time she wouldn't get lucky. She wouldn't be able to walk it off. A scream ripped it way out of her throat as he watched her arm get torn from her body. Blood, sinew, bone, meat. Skin hung limply of the raw stump as she watched in terror as blood pumped into open air.
Her voice went raw in seconds, her screams becoming silent, as her body began to go into shock. A human reaction. The reaction of prey when it's time was up. Her arm withered in the creature's hands, and Megan felt her feet try to move, her body screamed to move, her mind screamed to move... bot she was still as stone. Frozen in the horror of what was happening.
It was fast in it's own way. Being ripped from the earth and taken into the sky, a place humans were not meant to be. unnatural. The knowledge that her shotgun was on the ground, useless, lost as her body convulsed. Eyes opened wide and finally, a final scream of terror found it's voice, filling the air. And as soon at her scream had begun, it went silent, head gone, body going limp.
As it crashed onto the ground, her body twitched, heart still pumping in the last moments letting her blood spill out to the world. Bone and blood, sinew and skin, meat and a monstrosity. Megan's body remained, but that which made her Megan, her life, was far gone.
SHE WAS DED.

What was that?? WHAT WAS THAT?? Julien's pale eyes snapped open as this, this thing slid out of no where and just attacked this poor woman. Tore into her horribly. Julien felt like he was going to be sick, despite the horrible things he had seen as a hunter. Without a thought, the blonde man did what his instincts told him to do, he grabbed onto Mya and shoved her behind him. Despite everything, his first thought was to protect his Mya Jones. He wanted to keep her safe, even if they weren't perfect at the moment like normal.
Robert, yeah.... yeah...
Gulping at the air that wasn't there, Julien attempted to slap his dagger back in place. The hold they had so far hadn't worked, and he failed. For the first time, Julien Bond failed. His hands were shaking so hard, not because he was scared of dying. No, he had come to terms with that in the labyrinth. Now he was scared for Mya.
"Mya, you have to get back. You have to stay safe. It'll be okay love. I forgive you, please... just be safe. Nothing else matters."
If the other man had forced a kiss on his woman, than Julien didn't need to be mad at her. No, he needed to be mad at Lucas. And that was all too ******** easy for the tall blonde man. Mya... who knew what Mya was feeling, or thinking. If someone had forced a kiss on Julien he would have been upset indeed.
"I didn't ask if you were okay because I can't believe you're hurt... or I'll fail. You're Mya Jones, nothing phases you darling. You're the strong one, I'm the weak one. It's always been that way."
His dagger had failed, and he needed to hold onto the light of his life instead of pushing it away. He grasped her face carefully, and leaned in to give her the most forceful kiss he could manage. Death made one think a little clearer.
"Here, all better. Just remember my lips, okay?"
Failure!

After she had successfully plunged her knife into the ground, she didn't bother rising back up. She just stayed there, crouched to the ground, hair now plastered to her head and clinging to her face because she hadn't bothered to put up the hood on her jacket. The tears continued to silently fall down her face. She had ******** things up so badly, somehow, and there was absolutely nothing she could do to fix it... But she could still do her job. A sudden noise caught her attention, an all too familiar screeching sound that made her lift her head from where she crouched. She watched, eyes wide in absolute horror at the scene unfolding not so far away. Another hunter was being literally torn apart, and as it happened, the barrier flickered, and went out. She brought a hand up to her headset and yelled into it, to try and be heard past the babble of noises. EVERYONE HORSEMAN HERE, HUNTER DOWN, BARRIER NOT HOLDING! She let her hand slip back down. The smell of blood was suddenly thick in the air, a cloying scent that combined with the gruesome mutilation taking place made Mya's stomach heave. She reached up to clamp a hand over her mouth, just as she was grabbed from behind and pulled away from her station. "J-J-Julien?" she cried as he put her behind him, keeping himself between her and the horseman that had risen in the air and bitten off the head of one of their fellow hunters. She clung to him desperately, never wanting to let him go, and winced at the sound that the body made as it crunched into the ground unpleasantly, the smell of blood becoming ever stronger as the rain began to wash it towards the gutters. Then he was turning around and leaning down to press his mouth against hers, and she returned the kiss eagerly, desperately. He had forgiven her, because at that moment reality had come crashing back down for the both of them. They needed each other now, more then ever before. As she pulled away from him, she tried to smile, but she couldn't do it, she just couldn't. Her lips quivered at the attempt, and eventually she just gave up. "We still have work to do." Her voice was shaking. And he thought that she was the strong one? Ha! She had thought the same of herself once, but not anymore. She pulled away from him just enough to try and set the barrier again, but her hands were shaking, her mind was numb. She couldn't think properly, she couldn't do this. Her attempt failed just as Julien's had before her. Attempt: FAIL Dagger #: 0

The rain pelted down on Moore's dark hair and on the shoulders of his dirty coat. He hadn't recognized that Mist girl who had just had her life rudely ripped away, but unlike every other time he had seen or heard someone die, he found he didn't care. He was utterly devoid of feeling. Numb. Happy new year.
He gripped the barrier dagger firmly, but fumbled as he tried to sink it into the ground. Brushing his hair away from his face, he rose to pick up another.
