Suddenly a brilliant smile spread across Herryk's features as he leaned back in the booth. There was something about the way that Kettil spoke his promise, the conviction in his voice, that put Herryk at ease. Because of this, Herryk was eager to get to know the boil that Freya cared so much about.
"Good, then. Now that this is settled, Kettil should introduce this lovely bird to Herryk." For the first time since their initial meeting, Herryk beamed at the owl. "Freya very much loves this owl. Herryk bought for Freya little silly stuffed owls. Freya liked the pink one the most." He rubbed his shoulder and watched Endy with bright blue eyes, that large smile still gracing his features.

The sudden emotional whiplash and sudden brightening of the mood made Kettil physically startle and blink wildly.
Wait. What just...
...His head tilted back up toward Endzela as she seemed to be just as confused as Kettil. The two exchanged a look and then stared at Herryk for a moment. No offense big guy but you kinda took them for a spin just now.
"My name is Endzela," the Owl spoke for herself before the Reaper could speak for her.
Kettil gave a small chuckle, "Yeah. Endzela is a very charming girl."
Endy seemed suddenly much more relaxed, "You have very nice eyes, Herryk," at times she can toss compliments around with the best of them.

"Endzela," Herryk repeated the familiar's name, smiling still. "Endzela is a beautiful bird," he continued with a nod before he turned his attention back to Kettil.
"Herryk is curious," he braced his elbows once more on the table. "Does Kettil know why this ghoul Lark punched Freya? The real reason? Freya was vague, and Herryk would like to be reassured that such an issue will not arise again. Herryk figures that since Kettil is this Lark's best friend, perhaps Kettil has some insight on to why there was an issue."
Herryk gave Kettil a look that vaguely said 'ghouls, amirite' -- it was obvious that Herryk was a little perplexed.

And thus Herryk rocketed from the 'bad list' to the 'good list' in Endzela's books.
Much like with Freya he had decided to use the 'show all the corners' policy with Herryk. He gave a bit of a wry smile as he just looked down, "I want you to understand that I never meant for Freya to fight my battles for me. Lar and I were just havin' a spat. Y'know? She was upset at me for somethin' and she started bringin' stuff up from the past and Freya was online and I went to her to just ... have someone to talk to cause my world was gettin' wrecked hard by some of the stuff Lar was usin' against me." He quietly trailed a fingertip along the surface of the table.
"I don't think I need to tell you that Freya is a very passionate and loyal ghoul. Freya had only intended to confront Lar to get Lar to stop hurting me but...Well Lar was already pissed and I guess felt threatened that Freya was gonna take her place as my friend so all that fear and emotion just burst out in form of a fist. I can't apologize enough for that, Herryk. I never intended any of that to happen." Dear Jack that was a long winded but very honest view. Kettil wasn't sure of the more intricate things about how Lark felt much less what went Freya's head but that was how he saw it.
Kettil let out a sigh and reached up to rub at the side of his nose to scratch an itch before he added, "I so would have stopped Lar if I had been actually there, like I said before."

Herryk listened intently as Kettil spoke. Once the muut stopped, Herryk gave a low sound of confusion.
"Ghouls are very confusing, Herryk has learned. Complicated, very complicated. Ghouls do things that Herryk does not understand." His broad shoulders lifted in a shrug. "If there is one thing Herryk knows for certain, it is that ghouls are very emotional creatures. Beyond this, if there is one thing Herryk knows for certain when it comes to Freya, it is that she is very passionate. It is what draws Herryk to her." He offered a small smile.
"Freya is a good friend. She is Herryk's best friend." Herryk looked sheepish and slightly embarrassed, but the expression on his face was earnest. It was implicitly obvious that the boil was inexplicably in love with the valkyrie.
"Herryk believes Kettil. Besides, Herryk would never beat a ghoul. That is not how Herryk is. Freya gets upset with Herryk when Herryk gets too protective. Herryk cannot help it, but Herryk knows that Freya is strong enough to fight her own battles."

"They are confusing ... Aren't they?" It was like Herryk put in some sort of new insight to Kettil that he didn't have before. In fact Lark confused the ever-loving Jack out of him lately and that never used to happen before. One day everything was good and clear cut and now everything was about as clear as mud. His expression darkened briefly probably the only moment of the day where Herryk had noticed this particular phenomenon.
He brightened up a bit when talking about Freya offering a nod, "She is a very good friend. Endzela loves her dearly. I guess it is Freya's love and respect for owls that wins her over."
"And she's pretty," The Owl quipped cheerfully.
Kettil paused and glanced back at his Familiar and then turned back over toward Herryk, "She can fight her own battles. I just feel sad that ...she was fighting one of -my- battles to get the one she is currently in with Lark...I had intended for them to be friends as well but instead I somehow made things worse..."

Herryk gave a nod, a sympathetic one at that, in response to Kettil's comment. They were utterly and completely confusing, though he felt like he was finally coming to understand how most ghouls wanted to be treated. Those that were not Freya? Herryk treated them like they were his baby sisters. It was nice because he did not have family of his own, and so the prospect of innumerable little sisters was far too appealing.
When it came to Freya? She still confused him, but it was getting... smoother. It helped that he would do anything for his ghoulfriend, give anything to make her happy. Anything.
"Freya is very pretty," Herryk agreed softly, grinning at Endzela for a brief moment before he turned his attention back to Kettil, a more serious expression drifting across his face.
"Herryk has a habit of fighting Freya's battles for her." He gave a wry smile, though it didn't quite reach his eyes. "It is nice to know that Freya shares this bad habit with Herryk."

Endzela nodded with approval.
More and more it was getting a bit hard for Kettil to want to view the other boil badly or even try anything with Freya. Yep. Kettil was starting to actually like Herryk. There was something about their rather similar experiences that was somehow bonding them. Still. At least once. Just once. A single kiss from Freya just to see how it would feel - these were thoughts he carefully kept hidden from the larger boil before him.
Kettil seemed thoughtful as he took up his drink and drained it completely before he put the paper cup down and smashing it under his palm with a non-threatening gesture, "...Herryk. I think it is a habit of everyone in our little circle. Mine, Lark's, Freya's, yours...None of us are innocent...We fight for the ones we love even if we shouldn't. Even though we know they can fight on their own. We just do because they are dear to us."

It was probably a very good thing that Kettil was keeping these thoughts to himself. If Herryk had even an inkling that the reaper was thinking such impure thoughts... it would not have been a pretty sight. Not at all. Luckily for Kettil, Herryk was not the brightest crayon in the box; Herryk had the best of intentions for Freya's well-being, after all. Always thinking of his beloved.
Herryk nodded thoughtfully at Kettil's words. Yes, the muut had a very good point. "Yes. Freya is very dear to Herryk. It is because of this that Herryk wants to try and become Kettil's friend. It would make Freya happy. This is all that Herryk wants." That being said, the draugr gave Kettil and his familiar another winning smile. It pleased Herryk that Kettil was so polite and honest. These were the qualities that made a good friend.
"Perhaps Kettil would like to plan some kind of dinner-date. Does Kettil have a ghoulfriend? If not, Kettil could bring this Lark-ghoul." Oh, how Herryk was trying to be nice. What better way than to get all four of them together?

The smile returned on the Draugr's face at least the one that reached his eyes. Kettil seemed thoughtful about what Herryk said about Freya's happiness and then went to talk about dinner-dates. The boil shook his head, "Naw, I ain't got a ghoul yet but I guess I could take Lar or some other ghoul," but most likely it would be Lark that he'd bring with him if the dinner-date event is seen through. Kettil reached up and rubbed the side of his jaw, "Assumin' I can get the stubborn púul to go along with it."
He wasn't certain if Lark and Freya had 'made up' yet. Kettil hadn't heard anything about it since the punching incident. Kettil let out a deep sigh. That Lark will be the end of him one day.
"But sure...If nothin' else we can hang out or something," he offered as he moved to get out his eyephone, "let's exchange numbers so we can arrange something soon?"

Herryk nodded and retrieved his eyePhone. After reciting the number to Kettil, Herryk looked very thoughtful for a moment. Very thoughtful.
"If Freya and this Lark are not friends yet, perhaps this dinner would be a good way to make that happen. Or Kettil could even arrange something on his own so that these ghouls are forced to be nice to one another." Herryk shook his head. As far as he was concerned, Lark was being the most unreasonable of the two.
Never his sweet Freya.
"Yes, perhaps a movie or Herryk has heard of this mini-golf?" He shrugged his broad shoulders as he watched the muut.

Kettil recited his phone number in turn after he programmed in Herryk's number and he placed the phone away.
He tilted his head from side to side, "Maybe. It is hard to say. It's like I don't know Lark anymore sometimes," he almost sounded sad even if a bit disturbed. It bothered him a little that he could no longer really say what is alright or isn't anymore. "I am sure Lar will be good with dinner and maybe some mini-golf. Something to keep us active I guess?"

Herryk mashed his fingers against the screen of his phone before tucking it away safely. He listened to Kettil as he did so, the muut gaining a sympathetic glance from the mountainous draugr.
Herryk clapped the other boil on the shoulder, giving him a squeeze before pulling away. Herryk knew how confusing ghouls could be. Before he had really known Freya, he'd been confused, too. He liked to think he knew better now.
"Kettil should call Herryk, or text Herryk, or send Herryk a message on groanspring once Kettil has spoken with Lark or another ghoul, Herryk does not care who Kettil brings." Herryk shrugged. "Just do not think too much about Lark and her feelings. Perhaps this ghoul is just having a bad day?"

He laughed a bit from the clap on the shoulder and the sympathetic look and nodded lightly, "Thank you for the sympathy, Herryk," Kettil said appreciatively.
"I'll definitely send you a message somehow once I figure out who I am takin' with me. I'm pretty certain it'll be Lark. I mean something needs to be done," in truth the trouble didn't come from Freya. She was determined to be friends with Lark the last time Kettil knew.
When Herryk told him not to think of Lark's feelings he shifted his shoulders, "It'd be...a bit like me askin' ya not to think of Freya's feelings." Except his situation was different. Totally different. In every way.

Kettil's final comment earned him a very, very strange look before Herryk burst into laughter. How in Jack's name could it even be the same at all? Herryk had to know, and so when his laughter finally waned into chuckles (and after he'd wiped the tears from his cheeks), Herryk took a few deep breaths to regain his composure before posing the very serious question to Kettil.
"No, it would be very much like asking Herryk not to care for Mort's feelings. Mort is Herryk's very close friend. There are no romantic feelings between Mort and Herryk." He shook his head and gave one last chuckle before lifting his brows, a more serious expression darkening his features.
"If Lark is not being a considerate friend, then perhaps honesty is the best route for Kettil to take. Nobody needs a friend who is forever mean, yes?"
