"God DAMNIT Clarice." Robert exploded, one hand running through his hair. His big, shaking fingers poked at a piece harshly, taking the one above it with him. His eyes widened as the second piece fell with his own, and waited.. The tower stood firm. "God damnit.." His voice cracked a second time, and he shook as the anger coursed through him. "Not once." His voice was nothing but a whisper anymore. "Not once did I regret this choice. This place. Any of it. A new start. All that s**t. And I had my Pet with me. I was ready to fight for this cause. He was. "I'M NOT." He cried out, giving her a stern look as he focused on her for a second, before turning back to the game. He slid his finger into a middle piece, pushing it out until it clattered on the pedestal. He looked at the fallen piece, and sniffed. "Clarice, I don't know much about you. And I don't know what made your heart so cold. But this is just.. it's just.." His heart felt like it was going to explode. He flickered his eyes up at her, their rims red and threatening to tear up. There was a certain amount of relief in her expression when he proceeded to not start bawling in front of her. Oh god wait, was that a little sniffle? The cold-hearted thing left her pouting a bit, "Hey, I'm not cold. I'm just used to this stuff and don't particularly like you. Besides, if I sugar coated this s**t you'd probably miss the point out of misplaced confidence and optimism." She sharply jabbed a finger at another center piece, causing it to shoot out toward the trainee. "Well, if you really want to give a kid a traumatic childhood, you could always adopt. But Petra herself...she's bonded to a creature made of pure FEAR. That bond isn't just a cool weapon and a new voice in her head. That weapon is now a part of her in every way. Any child she carries inside of her is going to be exposed to that, and the results will be 100% awful no matter how we try to fix it." She gave Robert a flat look, "And we have tried. The collected data is kept on file if you don't feel like sleeping for a few weeks. You really want to help her? Don't let the absence of something define your future relationship." Well. At the very least, Robert found small relief in the fact that it wasn't his fault. He wasn't keeping Petra from something she may, or may not even want. No, Deus was. Had already done so. It was too late to say no, now. Clarice's words rang true, but Robert was not ready to hear them. The truth was still too sore, too new for him to see reason in any of this. He couldn't see past Not us. Not now. Not ever. It blinded him thoroughly from seeing anything except the Jenga game in front of him. He slid a piece out near the bottom, on one of the sides. "I don't know how serious you are about not wanting to see me cry, Clarice." A very hoarse, very dangerously emotional voice muttered out as he turned his head away. "But if it really bothers you, you should keep your eyes on the game for a few minutes." Status Round: 2 Pieces Taken: 9 Total Points: 17

"Well consider that awkward imagination hug yours." As she stacked her piece, her eyes flickered over to him and Clarice sighed, "Damn, I really should have built up to this. Like a dramatic last round reveal or as a horrible parting shot." She pulled a cloth hankie from her pocket and slid it his way without making eye contact. "Maybe a postcard. Postcards are severely underrated when it comes to relating horrible news. Could have had like, I don't know...a crying eagle on it or something. For company. Robert picked up the handkerchief, and with several quick, harsh strokes, his face was dry. His eyes and nose were still red and swollen, but he'd gotten the tears out as promised. Clarice's rambling served to help far more than she could have ever expected or hoped for. He chuckled at the idea of telling him all of this in a postcard. And eagles. And cats. Suddenly, his body was shaking in quiet, but extremely generous laughter. He let out a whistle, and sighed, staring up at the ceiling. "Wooo," He blew a sharp breath out. "Clarice, I love your sense of humor. It's kind of sick." He bent down, his eyes narrowing at the tower - it was looking pretty damn unstable. His finger slid right through the middle, taking out a piece, and when he stood back up, he finally looked at her. "It's a shame you hate my guts. I kind of like you." Then his eyes flattened. Clarice gave him a cautious look. Okay thank goodness. He looked slightly more crazy than sad, which was completely okay since that's how most hunters looked any given day. Slightly more comfortable she slid and stacked liked a goddamn boss, and answered back, "It's less about hate and more about this distinct urge to hit you every time I see your face. There's just something about that goofy-a** he-man bullshit combined with your general shirking, underachiever atmosphere." She gave him a half-smile, "But hey, here you are on the verge of maybe, by some miracle, getting promoted. And ahead of a large number of other trainees I pegged as better bets. Even as she proclaimed the urge to want to beat his face in every time she saw him, it was that kind of hate that made Robert find affection for the woman. Which, of course, would disappear the moment she pissed him off again. But the more permanent effect of her words was the change in his general view of her. She was less a raging, permanently PMSing b***h, and more the raging, permanently PMSing little sister he had already gotten used to having in his life. "I really think you and Poe would get along well, Clarice." Robert murmured as he plucked out another piece successfully, making an expression that looked relatively impressed. Robert swerved around to stare wild-eyed at Clarice, his face the picture of pure shock. In his haste his hand slammed right into the tower.
"How the ******** did you-OW."
Something had bit him on the neck, causing him to slap himself. When he pulled his hand away, he found the culprit.
And the world went black.

Robert would awake to a soft hand gently cupping his cheek and Clarice smiling sweetly down at him. Was....was that a look of approval in her eyes? Also...why was there a marker in her hand?
Looking at Robert, Clarice couldn't help but feel slightly proud. Not every Life hunter was as good with the marker-work as she was. Since this was Robert's cherry moment, she decided to stick with classics. Some would say this obvious and uncreative, but those who knew better would find no fault with her obvious mastery. Few could ever match the rugged, fierce line of the deceptively simple unibrow. Many could only dream of placing a beauty mark so charmingly. And the mustache...
It was a mustache so manly yet dapper that upon seeing it, she wouldn't be surprised if Robert gasped and shed a single crystalline tear at it's magnificence. Really, he was so lucky that she was the one doing this.
