Green light had already built up in the cannon's throat, a low humming growing gradually in volume- But then the hammer came swinging down and burst into flames.
The shot went skyward, it's roaring bark resonating off of the nearby buildings as Jerry was thrown back with a terrified yelp, cut short as his breath was crushed from him.
HP: 16
Damage: MISSSSSFFFUUUUHH
Charge: 1 spent!

He probably shouldn't be enjoying this quite so much, Jordan reflected with a twinge of guilt. The feeling didn't stop him from following up immediately while Jerry was still off balance, however. Press the attack, keep him from responding.

The flames were back, surrounding him, the giant swinging mass of metal a massed taloned paw ready to crush him, the world dimming and his expression slackened behind his glasses before the cannon was aimed towards his attacker with instinctual precision.

The change in Jerry's expression gave Jordan pause for a moment; the howling blast caught him full on, knocking him back and away. Damn. Be more careful.
Distractions, Ferros growled. Hit him. Get it out of your system.
Shut UP. He swung a moment too soon this time, dealing only a glancing hit.

His expression was still slack and distant as he reeled back from the last recoil, barely even registering Jordan's feeble attack as anything more than movement to be targeted on and destroyed. Roar seemed more than happy to oblige, swirling with light before barking again, this time head-on. Rushing in to close proximity also put him in close-range of the blast.

That was rather painful at short range. The blast pushed Jordan back a couple of feet, even though he'd been expecting it, half-prepared. But it hadn't knocked him down, and it only took one long stride to bring him back into range for a good, solid strike.

The blow knocked him off of his feet, rolling with his weapon clutched to his chest as he took only a moment to catch his breath. It also put him at just the right distance to numbly roll onto his belly, hefting Roar up onto his shoulder like a soldier hiding in a trench, bazooka at ready....
"I fell into a burning ring of fire..." his voice was small and weak and distant in his throat.
And despite any scientific-magical aesthetics, it was a bazooka that fired at Jordan's legs. "I went down, down, down, and the flames went higher..."

The blast knocked his feet out from under him, and Jordan fell hard, remembering vaguely at the last moment to keep from tensing up. Something's wrong. Ferros - The conversation between hunter and weapon was rapid, a flashing exchange of images and concepts rather than words. It took no more than a second; when it was over, Ferros dematerialized in a swirl of glittering motes, returning to ring form.
They waited, carefully still.

Roar was charged, brimming with energy as Jerry wobbled upright to his feet, the distant look still on his face as he swung the cannon around. It wanted to fire. The enemy was there. You had to destroy the enemy. "And it burns, burns burns-" The bazooka launched, sound ripping through the training field as he fired although with Jordan planted on the ground, it thankfully went straight over his head.

The sound and the ripple of air as the blast passed overhead made Jordan's spine prickle with cold apprehension. It was a good thing he'd stayed down; something was definitely wrong. That would have done a lot of damage. Possibly more than he could take.
But Jerry had gotten up now. Jordan rolled up to his feet in one quick burst of motion, counting on surprise and speed to keep him safe long enough. He ducked in close, right into Jerry's space, only inches away; one arm came up to shove Roar's barrel aside with his forearm, carefully not grabbing, while his other hand gripped Jerry's shoulder. "Jerry. Hey, man, you win. I concede. Roar - " he spoke to the weapon without looking away from Jerry's face - "I know you can hear me; help me get his attention, if he or I land in the infirmary over this he's not going to be happy, dammit."

"The ring of-" Jerry blinked, bleerily aware that someone was calling his name. Two voices, one in his head, getting steadily more annoyed, and the other to his ears. His weapon, they were trying to take his weapon! He struggled back with a hiss before the world came into focus again and his movements slowed, Jordan's concerned face inches from his, "Oh! Oh... ahaha... sorry about that, I think I ah... drifted a little..." His face went red, the pains in his stitches from rolling on the grass suddenly registering as well as the loss of breath he hadn't even realized he was feeling, "We done then? Already?" He seemed oblivious to what ever had come over him.

"Yeah. I told you to beat me, so you did." Jordan breathed a quiet sigh of relief. Wherever Jerry had gone, he was back now. "You gotta work on staying alert, though, man. I'm not sure you would've heard me if I hadn't gotten in your face - you fired again while I was still down."
Abruptly, he became aware of how close he was standing; he let go and stepped back hastily, cheeks flushing dull red with sudden embarrassment. "Sorry."

"I what?" Jerry laughed, glancing to the cannon still clutched firmly in his hand before desummoning it with his own blush, "Oh... oh, I'm... I'm sorry..." He swallowed thickly once his hands were free, looking terrified, "I don't... er... I mean... ahaha... it's a bit of a blur now, I s-suppose just um. The heat of the moment or something... um. That... that happens sometimes. I just kind of... um." He fidgeted, looking thoroughly embarrassed. What had he done? Or almost done?
You almost turned your so-called friend into a pile of mush, Roar grunted warily. He might have liked when Jerry got that way, he was easier to direct. But that didn't mean attacking friends would be a good idea.

Jordan shook his head. "Against the freaks, it won't matter as much, but you checking out like that during a spar ... I'm kind of worried for you." He ran a hand through his hair, looking at Jerry with real concern. "Your aim got a lot better, but it was like you weren't actually in the driver's seat. I don't know what I would've done if I hadn't been able to get your attention."

Jerry's lips became a sudden, very concerned line as he tried to digest this. "I... I um. I'm sorry, Jordan, I really didn't mean.... it... I just sometimes... it's... a little like... like I'm watching everything on a TV set and... I don't even remember..." He bit his lip, scratching at the curled scar on his cheek, taking a step back, "C-candace... said something about it the last mission but I didn't... I wasn't sure what to say about it..." He laughed nervously, trying to dismiss the tension of the situation as best he could, "The heat of the moment of battle, huh? Ahahaha..."
