"Oh dude, I get you." She nodded emphatically, patting the pod as if Deryk would be able to feel it. "I fell into boiling hot water. God, I'm not sure I'll be able to eat for a while, just thinking that I got cooked as well..."

Reine made a face, shuddering. "Not anything I ever wanna experience again."

She stood outside the pod, waiting for him. The guy genuinely looked traumatised, and she wasn't about to just walk off without him.

"Take your time," she smiled. "I.. I'm gonna need a pick-me-up after that, as well."

Ah so the explained what had happened to Reine. Nodding inside the pod, Deryk just remained there a little longer, thankful that he wasn't being rushed to leave just yet. That was definitely more horrific than he would have expected. It wasn't really something he wanted to go through again anytime soon but... he actually hadn't done that bad. He passed the course!

He still needed to improve anyway.

"Ok. Ok. Think I'm good now," he said after taking a few deep breaths and pushing open his pod. He still looked pretty shaky, and the other trainee didn't look much better off.

"Maybe.. we should go get some of those cookies. From the kitchen. Those usually make me feel good."

"There, there." Reine patted him on the shoulder as he moved out of the pod. "It kinda wears off after some time- but man, aren't you seriously glad for golems?"

His offer, though, was met by a look of shock. "Um. Those cookies? I.. I think I'll pass.." Reine squirmed slightly, remembering how she'd beaten Jerry up badly, under the influence of said cookies. "Not really a cookie person, heh heh."

With a smile, she skipped ahead of him. "You're welcome to eat as many as you like, though. I'll go for an eclair or something instead."

"yes. Very glad. Would be dead three times over if not for golems at this point. Very useful. Whoever invented them is genius. Definitely," Deryk agreed before crawling out of the pod and slowly stretching out. He could still feel some ghost burns around his body, but the sensation was mostly gone by this point.

"No?" he asked while looking at Reine about the cookies, "Not sure what it is about them but damn they make me feel good. Like excited. Something amazing will happen or something. Should try some sometime. Might make you feel better too."

Fixing his coat and hood, he took in a deep breath.

"Well then. Shall we go? Some coffee might not hurt either. Or something."

The poor boy was still obviously shaken, and Reine's heart went out to him, almost picturing Otto in front of her. Poor puppy.

"I, uh, think I'm allergic to them," she lied. "Had a bad experience last time, so you go ahead and enjoy!"

That wasn't all bad, Alynthe giggled. You did win the fight.

Someone I didn't want to hurt!

It happens eventually, darling, whether by your hand or some other.

Doesn't make it any better...

"I'm not really a coffee type of girl either, heheh." The Spencer Incident came to mind, and Reine shuddered.

"Gonna settle for just juice," Reine laughed, forcing a smile. "C'mon! The sooner we get there, the better. I think I might need to sit down for a while more and get over the trauma."

A little more relaxed now, Deryk nodded to Reine. Allergies. Those had to suck. He, himself, was allergic to pollen. That sucked pretty badly during the spring and fall.

"Oh ok. Well, either way. Some treats are in order after that, yes,"he said while starting towards the kitchen.

"I agree too. Just.. need some time to relax. That was crazy. Who the hell designed that training course?"

"Considering it's the death training course?" Reine grimaced. "I'd say it's probably Caelius." She couldn't quite imagine anyone more sadistic than him.. the thought was genuinely creepy.

Caelius did look pretty young though.. but what was the history of Deus Ex Machina anyway? How long had the organisation been around? There had to be generations of hunters before her, and possibly even Caelius. Then again, it made sense that training courses were revamped every now and then, to keep them more 'current'.. or simply make them more dangerous.

"Sounds about right. Though what about Dr. H? He seems pretty creepy in his own right. Remember how he just shot Clarice's brains out the first day?" Deryk asked with a frown. He didn't know the division leaders too well yet, but it didn't seem like setting something like this wouldn't be beyond either H or Caelius.

"..Kinda makes me wonder what the other courses are like. You mentioned trying the Mist? What happens there?"

"Ughhh." Reine made a face. "I don't want to remember that." Seeing Clarice shot had been more than shocking- even if they now knew that had just been a golem... it had seemed life-like enough.

What if one day, Dr. H shot... the wrong Clarice?

"Let's not think about morbid things," she said, laughing wryly. "As for the mist course, uh, turns out you have to save a princess golem. It was kinda funny, princess golems are like.. they look like a regular person? In my case, it was another trainee- and he was wearing a really ridiculous dress and hat. He. Yup." Reine's mental image switched quickly from Princess Jerry to Exploded Princess Jerry, and she swallowed, trying to force it away. "Sounds comical, but it's harder than you'd expect.."

Didn't really want to think about that, either.

"Uh. Yeah. Good point. Morbid thoughts make for bad moods. Usually at least. Might be some people around where it does the opposite I guess," he frowned while thinking about that. Shaking his head, Deryk looked towards Reine as they walked along, trying to imagine what these princess golems were like. Well they sounded interesting for sure.

"Oh? Perhaps I will have to try that out some time. Then again, couldn't hurt too much to dabble in all the courses. See what the other divisions have to deal with. Perhaps improve in those areas too. Win win all around. Except... times of failure. Those hurt a bit I guess," he frowned. Shuddering as he recalled the massive pain he had experienced not too long ago, he just... shoved that aside and tried to focus on getting to the kitchen.

She nodded in assent, though she didn't say any more regarding the training courses. How did you tackle those things, to begin with? Reine would assume that there were easier ones to start with, but so far she'd had bad experiences with all the ones she'd tried.

That wasn't to say she'd give up, though, far from it. The trainee was already thinking about which she'd try next.

"DO ALL THE THINGS," Reine announced, a little louder than she would have liked. "... oops." Weird looks from all around.

Since Reine was quiet at the time, her sudden outburst caused Deryk to jump in surprise. Blinking, he stared at her, before chuckling.

"Yes. Yes. Do all the things! Only done two of the courses, and five total. Then must try to see if I can improve personal score if possible. Defeated nine shadowlings in shadow run. Maybe next time will be able to do ten! Or more! Must beat own highscore."

Yes, turning it into a sort of game may help for him.

"How far did you get with mist run?"

"Challenge accepted," Reine grinned, rounding on Deryk. "Are you free like, tomorrow or something? We can run another one. AND ANOTHER." Why was she getting so pumped up about this?

"I'll beat your highscore too," she offered, then laughed again. "Just kidding." Except not really. Someday she'd beat aaaaaall the scores! Top of every non-existent leaderboard. It sounded nice.

"About.. um, halfway?" That wasn't something she was too proud of...

While he was getting kind of pumped, he wasn't sure if he could handle a training course every day. That would be a little rough for sure.

"Halfway? Better than failing at the start! Seeing how you are not a Mist, you did pretty good job then?" he asked while tilting his head a bit.

Arriving to the cafeteria now, Deryk paused to look around to see where that little old woman was. She always had the cookies on her.

"Heh heh," Reine laughed dryly. "That's a bit like saying 'halfway dead', isn't it? Not a state you want to be in.." There was success, and then there was failure, and no matter how close you were to success, if you still failed, you failed. Though then that just meant you had to try again.

They'd reached the cafeteria, and Reine got herself a glass of juice, then followed Deryk around.

"That's her, with the cookies.. right?" She gave him a dubious look. "Sure you want to eat those?"
