"If we choose to, yes. But why would we want to?" This came with a sniff, Laoise shifting and fidgeting until she was settled perfectly in front of Grus: legs straight, paws together, back smooth, tail wrapped around her legs and chin tipped up so that she could look down her nose at the girl. Nevermind that Lee was barely a foot tall, that Grus towered over her. Somehow, she still managed it.

"Human form is so gawky, so awkward. So prone to falling down." She quirked an eyebrow, expression disdainful.

"Be honest, wouldn't you be a cat, if you could?" Her tone left no room for argument. If Grus said 'no', or cited her recent experience as reasoning in the negative column, Laoise would probably come up with some reason why she was wrong.

Grus pondered this a moment. Guardian cats could change into people? She had never seen this before! Did they look like people? Or did they take a leaf out of Japanese anime's book and sport the cat ears above their regular human ears? That would be sure to cause attention among civilians. There was almost a flicker of annoyance when her human frame was criticized. Not all humans were gawky and clumsy! She knew Laoise wasn't talking about her personally, but she felt a twinge of irritation at the insult of the entire human race.

"Well I did like being a cat. I could go anywhere I wanted to pretty much whenever I wanted to. But I didn't have thumbs. And not being able to talk to civilians really hindered my ability to purchase food." Oh food. That had been the most difficult part of the whole ordeal. No one just gave macaroni to cats, but she found herself craving it like none other while a cat. These cravings also included ice cream, pizza and a turkey sandwich.

"Thumbs, pah. A tail trumps thumbs any day." She stretched as she said it, that tail arched and curled up over her, tip bent like a flag. Not a bad point, perhaps; Laoise's tail was what leant her that grace, that balance. It was why she could fearlessly trot along the edge of a building, why she didn't worry about falling. Her posture, for this moment, was definitely proud. Showing off. Then she sat again.

"And any good cat knows you don't purchase food, nor do you ask for it. You demand it." This came with a sniff, but her eyes were bright. This girl wasn't that bad. "Or you steal it. Or, best of all, you catch it yourself."

Grus wiggled her thumb, saying "But thumbs can be used to get food, and open containers that otherwise elude cats." Like boxes of cookies. Grus didn't want to spend forever chewing on a box and then plastic just to get to the sleeve of Oreos that she was in love with.

"When I was a cat I didn't have a tail." Her nose wrinkled at the memory of the stub that she was given. It was a cause for a lot of annoyance, and she couldn't articulate her points to humans was readily, seeing as she couldn't talkt o them with words.

The girl shuddered, body shivering at the memory of hunting. She had found that the instinct was there, but it didn't completely mask the human part of her brain. She would stalk the mouse, but catch herself just as her paws wrapped around the squirming creature. She never ate what she caught, but released it back to scurry away.

"I wasn't a good hunter. Don't like raw meat so much."

A sudden though occurred to her, something she had been meaning to ask a cat. "So you guys can shoot lasers out of your stars right? How come you don't fight more like us? The laser seemed decently powerful."

Laoise was watching the girl with an expression somewhere between horror and disdain, like she couldn't believe what she was hearing; something about cookies? A lack of tail? She didn't like hunting or raw meat? Obviously, the child was a bit of a weakling, but not in any way but what was to be expected. Humans didn't have the same self-sufficient tendencies that cats did. Of course.

"...our duty isn't to fight." Her answer came slowly, unwilling. If it were up to Lee, obviously, she would be in the scuffle, would take on her enemies directly, wouldn't huddle behind senshi. She shifted, restlessly, sitting up a little bit straighter.

"And we...lack...the capacity." Oh, it stuck in her throat, turned almost to a growl at the end. "We get only one shot, whereas you have several."

Grus watched as the more she talked, the more Laoise's face went from proud to something like horror. Apparently being born as a cat changed your opinion of being a cat, just as being born human changed your opinion of being human. And she guessed the grass was not greener on the other side.

Grus nodded in understanding. "Well, considering how small you guys are, it makes sense that you wouldn't have more than a shot or two in ya." She pulled out a larger feather from her collar, tossing towards the cat as a token of peace. The red thing floated downwards, Grus trailing it's movements with her eyes.

"So you guys just wander around looking for people to awaken?" Her hand went to her cheek and her elbow went to her knee in thoughtful contemplation while blue eyes tracked the feather's progress into dangerous territory above Laoise's head.

Yellow-green eyes did the same -- following every twitch and flutter, the way the feather careened slightly to one side and then back again, the catch of wind through it. Her tail twitched one more time, then went still as the rest of her did, ears back and expression serious. The second that feather was in reach, she lept, slapping it to the floor beneath both paws and chewing on the end. Her catch. Her kill.

She glowered up at Grus.

"No. We live our lives. And awaken when you need us." Basically the same thing, except for the point of view: to the senshi, Lee didn't exist outside of awakenings. The idea made her sniff a bit. "We do an important duty, but we don't just 'wander around'."

A smile slid over her face as Laoise prepared and then pounced at the feather. Instinct was a heck of a thing. Quietly she was glad that her fuku would regenerate the red adornments. She would hate to lose her pretty feathers to the cat.

She put her hands up in a gesture of innocence. Man, this cat was a tad touchy! Grus was surprised at the seriousness the cat put in her duty. ********* didn't seem too serious about what she did, but she supposed that for every one that was lax there was one that was strict. "I meant no offense! Wander around is just lingo. You know, a colloquialism for our generation. Doesn't mean you were being lazy or anything. We all usually wander around before we run into youma or negaverse. Then we are serious business." She put on a straight face to try and get her point further across.

Lee scowled at that flash of a smile, paw still sprawled out across the feather. No. Her feather. Grus had lost it in a fair fight, and she would now claim it herself. Laoise was going to be disappointed when they faded away, back to the uniform.

"You seem to be wandering around right now." It came with a sniff, and then Laoise tipped her head down to catch the feather between her teeth, straightening. Too straight, perhaps, her tail shot straight up, long legs stretched out. She sauntered two steps away.

"Go find a youma or something!" The words, though, were a little muffled around her mouthful.

Grus openly laughed at the protective way the cat held onto the feather. It was adorable, despite the bothersome way of making her feel useless at the moment.

She was surprised when Laoise made a break for it. Guess she was tired of chasing around feathers and answering questions from a nosy senshi. She rose with a tired sigh, dusting off her skirt and adjusting the collar before saying "Alright alright, I'll go do something -useful-" She made air quotes with her fingers, just to be a smart aleck. A wide grin accompanied them, and she made her way for the edge of the rooftop, intent on jumping down onto the street.

"Enjoy your feathers!" She said, crawling over the side and holding on to the side long enough to say that. Then she dropped, rolling to keep from breaking her ankle.

...well. That honestly surprised Lee, made her blink, still gripping at the feather. The girl disappeared over the edge of the roof and she eased up after her, standing until Grus had disappeared out of view. This one, she decided, was better than the other if nothing else; self-sufficient, and she listened. Laoise would keep an eye out for her.

Another day, though. Today, she needed to hunt down something to eat. Or make eyes at Breu. She turned to head in the other direction.
