Ben kept silently alert, listening to the interaction between the two students.

Lark gave a small sigh of distress as she peered at Yang. It was a little obvious that she was sorting through her thoughts. She remained curled up in a crouch, lifting her eyes from Yang to glance at Shun.

"It was so scary," Lark whispered, shaking her head. It might've been weak of her to admit it, but she wasn't trying to impress anyone. Lowering her gaze from Shun back to Yang, she reached out a hand to brush against the grass at her feet.

"An' th'horsemen?"

If it wasn't apparent before, it would be painfully obvious now that Lark was a fairly new student to the Academy.

During that bit of silence, Shun was just stroking the top of Yin's head, keeping her at ease. Yang, on the other hand, ventured a little closer to Lark, tilting his head and letting out a small squawk of curiosity.

When the other Reaper spoke up again, the grim looked over, a bit surprised to hear that. The experience had definitely been something. He had just about been ready to die then and there.

"They left with the Scythe wielder. I don't really know where..possibly to the hunter headquarters. They had agreed to a truce of sorts," he answered with a frown. Aisa's words to the small group echoed through his mind, causing a small shudder.

They had all been too weak.

"It seems to be quite a bit for a new student to experience off the bat," he commented.

Lark nodded. As much as she did her best to appear carefree and bold, she had been terrified. Terrified. She gave a thoughtful hum as she mulled over what Shun said. He was far more knowledgeable than she was, and there was something a little comforting in that.

"A truce," she whispered as she reached forward to make an attempt to stroke the top of Yang's head.

"I need t'get better. Be better. S'what 'm here for, after all." Lark sighed. "I ain't want t'be that scared again. Ever." Lark fell silent for a long time.

"So.. Shun. What, ah.. what're you, then?" He looked very humanoid, which meant reaper -- unless he was a demon? Or a monster of some kind. A ghost? Lark had no idea, so she figured it was just ...best to ask.

Seeing her reach out, Yang stared at her for a moment, then reached out with his neck to allowed him to be pet. He was always a little more sociable than his sister.

"Everyone needs to grow. Everyone needs to improve if we're not to be bested by our foes," Shun said while glancing over at Lark. Even the horsemen ended up not being able to do anything of the situation aside from agree with the truce. Well, they could have disagreed, but even so, they weren't able to best Caelius.

"I'm a grim reaper," he replied. He didn't think there was too much of a question of which faction he was, but he supposed there was some chance he could be mistaken as one of the others.

"Is this where you train often?"

Lark gently used her nail to scritch around Yang's neck. She'd always had a way with animals. Usually even the crankiest critter was always willing for pets from Lark. The fact that Yin had yet to creep forward didn't bother Lark - it just meant that the bird probably had a very, very strong bond with her master.

A grim. Just like Roch. Lark brightened.

"Yeah, we train here lots," she shrugged. "Fought once in th'gym but.. Ben n'me, we like wide open spaces."

Lark rose to her feet after giving one last gentle scratch to Yang. Her eyes shifted over him before meeting his gaze. "So. Weapons, yeah?" She offered him a hopeful grin.
PostPosted: Thu Dec 08, 2011 7:11 pm

Yang's eyes closed as he was being scratched. That felt reaaaally good. He ended up leaning towards Lark's hand in fact, as a result.

The scarefari was definitely an open area, especially compared to the indoor gym. Shun could see the merit in that, though there was a problem with it. Duking it out in the scarefari was riskier, seeing how it wasn't a sanctioned battle area. Right now, battle experience was incredibly valuable.

"Have you checked out the outdoor arena at all? It's considerably larger than the indoor gym. I hear some of the monsters and whatnot go there to spar in their true forms at times," he offered before raising an eyebrow at the mention of weapons. With a silent nod, he held his hands up for a moment and summoned his twin daggers to show the other Reaper what he had.

He looked it over, then glanced over towards Ben with a hint of curiosity.

"A bit different from what you have," he murmured. A part of him wondered what it was like to have a familiar rather than a weapon. Until now, he hadn't really spoke with reapers who had one so the concept did intrigue him some.

Lark sighed mournfully.

"Aye," she whispered, crossing her arms, eyes narrowing as she peered at those daggers. "M'mom n'da are grims. M'aunts, uncles, all the oldies." Lark shook her head and jerked her chin at his daggers. "They all got scythes." She shrugged.

"But I got Ben, and we doin' jest fine." She seemed almost defensive.

"I been t'the gym," she continued, "but only inside. Never outdoors." Lark peered down at Yang, going so far as to make a little kissy noise at the falcon. "Beat Roch once, but he wasn't at full fear, so he tells me. Ben and me, we did real good."
PostPosted: Thu Dec 08, 2011 8:04 pm

"You speak as if you're the odd one out. What sort of Reaper are you then?" Shun asked while raising an eyebrow. Just having a familiar didn't really say much in itself.

For a moment, he was impressed as she mentioned having defeated Roch.. until she mentioned that he wasn't at full strength. It was hard to tell if that was just a bluff on the other grim's part, however.

"Regardless, it was a victory. What exactly is it like to have him around? Fighting at your side?" he asked while looking at the boomer. He didn't really know how reapers with familiars fought. Did they strike together in a collaboration or did the familiar do most of the fighting? Or vice versa?

Yin stared at Lark as she made a kissy noise at her brother. Slowly, she started to venture a little closer to her, keeping her head low and her wings partially open. There was still caution in her movements.

Lark slowly moved back into a crouch, momentarily distracted by Yin. Lark made a few soft chirping sounds, encouraging Yin to come closer. She couldn't get over how lovely the raptors were.

"Shaman," Lark said softly, not wanting to startle the bird. It was utterly obvious that Lark loved animals of all shapes and sizes. She'd almost died when she found out about the scarefari, and had taken to collecting all sorts of minipets.

She usually only kept the ugly ones.

Lifting her gaze to Shun, she stared at him for a long moment before sliding her eyes to rest on Ben. The familiar was grooming his ears, cheeks and muzzle. Lark smiled fondly.

"S'like... fightin' w'yer best friend. 'Cept.. Ben's a part'a me. We fight t'gether. Always." She turned her attention back to the bird. Clearly the brother-sister raptor duo was far more interesting.

"Where'd y'get'em? Th'birds, I mean."

Tilting her head, Yin slowly continued to approach until she was standing besides her brother. She fluffed up for a moment, then shook her body all around.

While the dark bird moved, Shun watched over quietly. It wasn't like Yin to approach others, so this intrigued him. The fact that Lark was a shaman did provide some insight on that, however. In the back of his mind, he couldn't help but wonder if she could help Mitsu out with Ziggy. He was pretty good with animals and minis in general, but that cat was out of his league. He was determined nothing he did would stop her from pouncing his face on sight.

As for her response... he didn't entirely know what that was like. The Reaper soon realized that he didn't have a best friend. Then again, it wasn't until relatively recently that he started to have friends in the first place. The closest thing to her statement might have been fighting alongside Mitsu perhaps.

"Must be something," he mused before looking back to the young raptors, "A few months back I found two strange disks on the ground resembling Yin and Yang symbols. Sometime later they... 'hatched' into the two you see now."

Lark giggled softly and carefully reached out her hand to gently brush against the bird's chest. There was no hesitation in her movement, and if the bird bit her, Lark could only blame herself. The confidence with which she moved showed just how sure she was that the bird wouldn't snap at her, though.

"Aye," Lark mumbled, intent on Yin.

"I got me some birds. Ain't nothin' like these, though. They's little brown ones. I named 'em Kee n' Wee. Got a few other pets, too, jest none so pretty as these."

Ben rocked back on his tail and peered at Shun. "She got a little Chip, too, what's a little chap like me. Don't remember what kinda pet he is. A right b*****d, too. Always punchin' on them birds. Ratshit."
PostPosted: Thu Dec 08, 2011 9:36 pm

As Lark made contact, Yin began to fluff up again. Though, soon after she began to be pet, she slowly relaxed. She didn't act as affectionately as Yang did, but it seemed she didn't mind it in the least.

"Sungaroo I believe. I've seen those around once before," Shun said to Ben. It was the only mini he was aware of that was like that. Not to mention he recalled them having boxing gloves. If that wasn't what they were, then he had no clue.

"Aside from these two I have a mouse and... a mechanical raptor."

He would have brought Bent-Tail, but he didn't want to risk losing the little rodent in the grass while his attention was on the birds. Arkham, generally just stayed in his room, keeping watch over things.

"I got me a Boonagi named Clover. She's a good gal. N' a giant spider-thing lives in m'room. I named 'im Gallagher." Lark looked like she was in her element here, scritching the raptors in tandem. The wide open space of the scarefari seemed to suit the ghoul.

"N' I got Tulip, too. She's m'ulppa. Bright pink thing, she is. Like to find another of 'em. Tulie's a real sweetheart," Lark said softly before turning her attention back to the birds. She crooned at them.

"Might like a few of these too," she added. "Not .. not these in p'ticular, right, jest.. birds. They're soft, hmm?"
PostPosted: Fri Dec 09, 2011 7:36 pm

Well damn. It sounded like Lark had a plethora of pets in her room. Though, given her familiar, she was probably given a place a bit larger than his own.

"That's.. quite a few creatures you have," he said before looking at the birds he had, "If you mean their feathers, yes. Aside from that, I'm hoping to train them for a few things once they're able to fly. I hadn't really seen any like these around, but there are plenty of bird type minis."

Shun was still mildly amused that Lark was able to get close to Yin like that too.

"You are lucky though. Yin normally won't venture out to strangers all that often. Her brother's the outgoing on."

"I caught a few eggs, but they ain't hatched yet." Lark rose to her feet once more before turning to stare at Shun, measuring him up. She didn't want to act too big for her britches, running around and challenging all of the students she ran into, but part of her wanted to see how far she could push herself.

"How long y'been at school," she asked, crossing her lanky arms over her chest. "Ain't been here long m'self, like I said, but I figure... what w'all th'strange things happenin', I oughta try n' hone what skills I got." She didn't have many.

"So's if ya wanna spar sometime, we should. Or if ya know someone that might be willin'... send 'em my way, yeah?"
