Napoleon stumbled at the top of the staircase, trembling from his experiences in Alex's domain. Violet had gone first and Napoleon had waited impatiently outside while she was fitted and done up in a gorgeous gown. It had only taken moments for her to emerge looking nothing like the alien he'd known from school. The sight made him uneasy though he reminded himself that it was still her underneath the disguise.

Napoleon on the other hand, took AGES to dress. The struggle had been quite comical if you were on the outside of it, though Napoleon didn't find it funny at all. He'd left Alex's room in shambles before he'd even finished measuring the small boy presented him. Then came the adjustments and fittings as he attempted to make a suit meant for a human child fit the lanky creature underneath the hologram. The jacket itself had to be completely deconstructed and an opening cut into the back to fit over his wings. Some tinkering to the holo watch filled in the space and made it look whole to the world. Still a miracle had been worked and Napoleon stood before the crowd looking rather sharp in a narrow black suit, stiff white collar and skinny black tie. Underneath the hologram patent shoes Napoleon's actual feet were bare. Alex had even provided slim shades to protect Nap's eyes from the glaring lights. (since he couldn't wear his goggles)

Alex had also explained without prompting what an orphan was though the concept was too foreign for Nap to completely understand. Children, parent-less or not were raised in communal nurseries on his planet.

Nap looked about the room at the people already milling about. He saw some of the other students but couldn't point out any in particular that he recognized. The musicians at the far end drew his attention and he cautiously made his way down the stairs, one slow step at a time. He watched the way his 'knee's bent with each step. He'd adjusted to the sight of his legs for the most part and had reverted to studying them. He didn't see the child sitting at the bottom of the stairs until he was practically on top of him. Nap slipped backwards in his haste to avoid tripping over Isaac.

Avalbane McCarthy

xxxxxxxxxxxAvalbane • had reached Alex not too long after the aliens. She waited patiently as Violet got dressed, which did not take long. As Napoleon entered the room, she swung her dress from her shoulder down over her right forearm. Figuring that the second alien would not take too long either, she would hold her heavy dress this way. However, she was wrong. What seemed like forever standing in line and waiting to see Alex was actually...well a long time. The bulb shape on the dress that would fit above her knees was beginning to get heavy. The light pink material felt soft against her pale skin, but that did nothing to the weight of the dress. Although Avalbane had a bunch of scars all over her body, she was looking forward to wearing this dress. It was one of the nice things her parents could actually afford to buy.

Thinking on her parents made her realize that she would not see them tonight. It was not that the two did not want to arrive; they just had no means to get to the island from their home. It would have been too expensive and her family did not have money to waste. It was fine though, she would be ok with not seeing them yet. At one point, she would go back home to visit them. That would be a nice surprise to her parents.

Flipping her dress over to the other side, Avalbane had to step to the side to prevent too much frost from developing. That was the real reason she was here waiting to see Alex. Napoleon finally emerged from the room and Avalbane was a bit surprised to see how normal he looked. More like an alien like her. Which she figured no one knew about. They probably just put her glowing eyes with some sort of mutation that caused her powers. At least that is what she read about with some other made up superheroes. It was her turn and although she did need her dress fitted a bit, she wondered if he had something for her feet. When she entered Alex's area, she was surprised, and a bit frightened, by the demon creature. Her words stumbled out of her mouth, but she managed to tell the nice man what she needed. He had taken a short amount of time to fix her dress and make it fit perfectly. He also had a nice pair of leather heels that would prevent Avalbane from leaving frost all across the dance floor. This made her excited, although she would have to clean them every couple of hours. That was fine; she just wanted to enjoy her time.

She left his area feeling like a Princess. It would probably be one of the only times she actually felt that way. Her hair and makeup was easy to do. Especially since she always wore make up. Splashing a bit of color on her lips, she brushed her hair, went wild with the hairspray, and then flipped it to the other side. Perfect. Her brown wavy hair looked voluminous and like only half of her head was shaved now. Of course she had throw the hair over to cover her normal looking ear. The visible ear had a large chunk taken out of the top of it. No matter, she was not self-conscious about her scars or missing leg, it was other things.

[Enter]

Making her way to the room, she walked in the Ball Room with a small crowd of people; none of them seemed to notice her. Too busy with themselves most likely.

Although Avalbane was not use to wearing shoes, she knew how to walk in them and only stumbled slightly. Good things the heels on these suckers were short; otherwise, she would be even more clumsy then before. Her stroll down the stairs to the dance floor was a dangerous one, if you are Avalbane. She passed The not so pink alien boy and Isaac on her way down. She had safely made it to the flat surface, which was a feat to be celebrated, and started to head for the tables and chairs. She was trying to peer around and find Theo, but there were many people blocking her sight. Instead, she would take a nice seat and look for him there. On her way she passed by a dark skinned boy talking to some new female with black hair and greenish orange skin tone. Of course many of the people where new, but the female seemed around her age.

As Avalbane plopped down onto the chair, her dress ruffled a lot and changed its shape slightly to fit against her bottom and the chair. Her glowing eyes scanned the room. Hopefully no one would notice that her eyes were glowing and would just think they had been drinking too much. Her metal leg was hidden from sight under her long floor length dress. She tugged slightly at the top of one of her long white gloves. Making sure it was all the way up past her elbow like it was suppose to be. Avalbane sat her ends in her lap and watched the people in their elegant dresses.

Khoric Timothy Baasis

-----

Khoric had been distracted momentarily by what he thought was a bird flying around, but perhaps that was his imagination, when another young person like himself approached him. She looked like the rich type, well-dressed and well-mannered but there was something in her smile that put him off.

"Yes, ominously boring that is,"

She said to him. Khoric eyed her suspiciously, but nodded at her in response. He tried to return her smile but it came to an awkward half-sneer. And before he could keep his mouth shut he blurted out, "What do you want?" And in light of this blunt question, he cleared his throat and resisted the urge to put his hands in his pockets. But he did stare the girl down, expecting a response.

Around him, many things seemed to be happening. More youngsters seemed to be showing up. Even what seemed to be an eight year old boy and a dark skinned teen with long hair. There was another who was dressed like he was from the 17th century and a girl to match with green hair. Perhaps these were the so-called 'orphans' of the charity event Khoric mused.

But there was too much going on, and Khoric could only maintain his attention around him before he had to return it to the girl that was currently talking to him. He tried to ease the tension by squinting an eye and saying, "Er, I mean. You're not enjoying yourself...?".

But she looked like a girl that attended these sorts of things often. And clearly was not enjoying herself. But. It was polite etiquette to make up for his prior remark.

Theo had been lost in his own thoughts and hadn't noticed Clowrey until she walked into him, which he was not against in the slightest. As she looked at him expressionless and at a loss for words, Theo took the opportunity to look her over and felt quite a flush come to his cheeks. She looked positively stunning and on the inside he could feel the inner monologue bubble.

Shut up, shut up, He thought to himself as he tried not to make it painfully obvious with his fluster. She's a girl and girls look good in these sorts of things, so shut up.

"Oh, umm. T-thank you, Clowrey. You, uhm, uhh....," Theo tried to pass off the fluster in his cheeks as being apart of his reaction to Clowrey's compliment, but it was increasingly hard when all he was doing was starring at the dress she had on, "S-stunning. UHM, y-you l-l-look s-stunning."

Internally Theo was pretty sure he wanted to smack himself right now.

"Did, uhm. Did you, uhm pick it out y-yourself?" He asked carefully, not wanting to insinuate that she was incapable, but judging from his own encounter's she didn't seem like the type who spent a lot of her time in a boutique trying on all the dresses in skirts. Or maybe she was and just didn't like admitting to it? He could understand that. He didn't like admitting that he liked playing young female child parts in his mom's opera's. No one needed to know that...

    He was stuttering a little more than usual, Clowrey noted. 'I didn't bump into him that hard, did I?' she thought to herself, unaware at where Theo's gaze was settled. She was a little more preoccupied with his lack of words to notice...Corduroy did, however, and frowned;
"He's nervous. How about we leave him," he suggested firmly, though was of course, ignored. "Thanks Theo," she replied with a smile, once he got his sentences out. "And uhm, no..." she then added, "I wasn't really prepared for a ball--Didn't think there would be one here. But I was saved by dad--"
'And I still can't figure out how he knew ahead of time!'
"--He knows what I like though...I'm glad to hear that it suits me."
Her own cheeks were pink with bliss over her attire, and she couldn't help but swish around in a circle at least once. "Oh hey! Have you noticed there are other kids here?" she commented in a low voice. By 'other kids', she actually meant non-students and hoped the point got across to Theo. She was mostly speaking about Khoric and Mihlka, whom weren't too hard to spot. "How many people do you think are coming to this...?" she added, slightly worried she wouldn't be able to find her kin in the crowd. It was still somewhat early in the night, but she missed them after all. "I hope they don't get lost or something," she muttered under her breath.

Luna Estella Stokes
The curious blunt Civilian Astronomer

luna looked at the young man with her soft blue eye's and a soft smile as she nodded a thanks you and took the seat across from him. He was a perfect gentlemen maybe she would have fun at this ball after all. After taking her seat across from him she seat her drink down. "Well well now aren't you a perfect gentlemen, so do you pull that trick on all the girls pull their chair out. Very sweet should i be suspicious?" she said with life in her voice as she tried to make a joke. You know to lighten this tense mood with all these formal people and what not. "ahh again , well thank you thank you very much, your very lucky that im being nice i can't stand these stuck up charity events its always about how much money you have and can give" she said starting to complain. She always was sort of a complainer in the sense of time wasting activities. "im sorry.. i i just wish i could be at Tasea doing my studies, but your here so this night might not me to bad" she said as she had that solemn look wash over her again. She noticed he had a very pretty skin tone one she wouldn't mind to have i mean her skin wasn't traditional for an Asian girl. she continued taking sips of her drink trying to cheer up she didn't want to be a downer her in the company of such an interesting and charming man.

" well im very sorry um now Starffe tell me something about you i mean i have never heard of such a name its kind of cool" she said with a smile, took a quick glance around the room checking up on her father who sat at a table with her mother and her brother running around it. She chuckled silently to her self seeing that cute sight. She took her mind off her family and back to Starffe she had never met a man with so much charm, so much passion and spirit. Though he didn't show it much but she could tell. "um well only two are my friends uh im here with my family, uh you here with someone special" she asked taking another sip of her drink not even sure what she was drinking, for all she knew it could be drugged. " you ever notice when they give you drinks they don't always specify it, i bet im being drugged right now .. oh well" she giggled covering her small lips she smoothed her dress out still with her smile on. "oh i'm Luna by the way, Luna Stokes"she said setting her drink down.

Flo checked her watch: 15 minutes to go. If anything the control room should've cleared by now. A quick glance towards the stairway told her that some of the fake orphans were gradually starting to trickle in. For the most part they were simply loitering around the stairway, admiring each others' outfits and alternating between nervous and excited. A small smile tugged at her lips; children could be quite endearing when they weren't being bratty.

As she finished inspecting the last of the cameras, a blonde haired woman who looked like she had a mission to fulfil swept past, and then...

"Ugh, where's the alcohol when you needed one."

Well that voice sounded awfully familiar.

"Hey miss, isn't there some way I could not be a part of this dancey part?"

Ah, her dance partner. She turned and smiled benignly, completely unfazed by the hardness of his tone. She'd been expecting some kind of violent protest from the man ever since she knew there was dancing involved, and she was prepared.

"Zone," she said patiently, with the air of a mother explaining to a stubborn child why vegetables had to be eaten, "we already explained why the dancing is necessary, you know that. I promise it won't last too long. And besides, you'll look very odd if you're the only one not dancing. Think of the mission at stake, you'd probably blow your cover."

She privately hoped that would be enough to calm Zone down. He did look distinctly uncomfortable in his dapper suit tonight.

DANICA T MOOR
conduit

[[ Enter ]]

In what was possibly one of the greatest feats of primping-under-pressure ever witnessed at Sidekick Academy, Danica Taylor Moor made it onto the dance floor with just shy of fifteen minutes to spare. What that meant was that she had made it from the control room to her dorm room, primped and pulled her hair to within an inch of its life, painted a masterpiece on her face, wrestled her way into multiple layers of cornflower blue taffeta and black lace, and then run all the way downstairs, in less than twenty minutes. Maybe she had super speed and just didn’t know it. Either way, she walked into the ballroom with an air of self-importance and pride appropriate for someone capable of such an endeavor.

She was pleased to see many people she knew already scattered about the room. Clowrey was talking to that kid with music based powers at one end of the room. Straffe was chatting with a dark haired girl she didn’t recognise... Was she one of the guests or one of the aliens using a holo-emitter? Suddenly it occurred to Dani that she had no idea how one was supposed to recognize the aliens anyway. She hadn’t seen Scottie yet, but how would she know it was him when she saw him? Sure, some of the aliens were still easy enough to spot, having only changed little details – like their skin colour – but her partner had four eyes and a pair of fins on his head. He was obviously going to need a slightly more intensive disguise. How was she supposed to find him? The only answered seemed to be to wait until he found her.

Wouldn’t it be funny if she actually managed to arrive on time, only to spend the whole night looking for her partner? Well, she would cross that bridge when she came to it. In the meantime, she was going to go join the festivities. First order of business: track down one of the penguin-suited waiters and snatch up some of those hors d'oeuvres they were twirling around.

xxxxHeels clicking rhythmically as she hurried back from her dorm, Anemone clutched her small bag in her sweaty palms as she rushed through the corridors. For once she hadn't gotten lost, but ended up taking far too much time getting ready for the ball. Why did she care so much, anyways? She supposed it was because it would be the first time she saw her mother in months, and Mrs. Pfieffer was the kind of woman you needed to make a good impression with. Sucking in a quick breath of air, Anemone pushed back a wisp of white hair before smoothing down her deep indigo dress. It would be okay. Nothing bad would happen. It would just be another silly charity ball, no different than the dozens she had attended in the past. Despite her silent assurance, Ane couldn't quite shake the feeling that something was going down tonight...

xxxxStopping as she reached the main entrance of the ballroom, Anemone let out a soft sigh. She wasn't going to be able to idly flit around and snack like usual. Not only did she have to stay alert and on guard, but she was seriously expected to dance? What kind of school was this, anyways? An unconventional one, obviously. If there was one impression the academy had left on Anemone, it was that. Pushing open the door with her palms, the pale girl slipped into the room, hopefully unnoticed.

xxxxIt was starting to pick up, but things were still pretty uneventful. A few familiar faces here and there, civilians too. Everyone seemed to be standing around awkwardly, or conversing among themselves. Beelining to an empty table near a wall, (for irony's sake), the young hero gently tucked her dress under herself as she settled down into a chair. Lavender eyes trailed around the room as she took in more information, perched attentively.

Her Dad sounds like a class act, Theo thought to himself as Clowrey continued to speak and expressed her comments about the other kids in the dance hall with them. Kids clearly not from the Academy at all.

Theo's gaze on Clowrey's dress and form were broken when she asked him a question about the number of people set to attend this whole shin-dig. He combed a hand through his hair momentarily as he tried to think of a reasonable response and smiled haphazardly at her, wondering how her father has such good taste in dresses.

"Uhm," He started, scratching the nape of his neck, "I, uhm, I couldn't tell you."

He looked around curiously, spotting familiar faces as they entered. He saw Avalbane and Anemone and felt a slight twinge of guilt as he was chatting it up with Clowrey and not with his partner or roommate. She was his friend, however, so it didn't bother him too badly. He'd have plenty of time throughout the night to chat them into oblivion (or stutter them into oblivion) given that nothing terrible happened.

"I hope that it's, uhm, no more than we can, uh. Manage," He finally responded, not wanting to sound like a total chicken over the situation they were now in, but definitely feeling the need to stress how he wasn't all that comfortable with the lives of other people in his hands.

He decided to change the topic of conversation quickly, not wanting to think about his task for the evening and the role he was to play. Giving Clowrey another small grin he asked, "So, uhm. Is your family coming to this? My, uhm, my M-mom couldn't make it. She had work."

"Yeah, it'll be nice if things went smoothly for everyone," she commented, understanding his worry. For Clowrey, personally, it'd be the first real time she would have to do something..."heroic", if something were to happen. And while it was an exciting thought, it was also nerve-wracking to realize someone could seriously get hurt. Then remembering her family was coming...As it was the season, she'd hope things would be alright. "Huh? Oh yeah," she was snapped out of her thoughts when Theo posed his inquiry. "They're all coming--My dad and my big brother," young Clowrey replied with a beaming grin, "I can't wait to see them again~
I remember Anemone saying she liked tea...so I was planning on introducing the two. He runs a tea shop back home...Although it's a little more than him just liking tea...What does your mom do?"
At the moment, she hadn't noticed anyone else she recognized; such as Danica or Anemone, or even Isaac and the still not introduced Avalbane. Once she did, however, she'd probably make her rounds to at least say 'hi'.

A brown haired teenager stood outside the ballroom, seeming ready to enter. Dressed in blue with a nice pair of heels, Kennedy Oliver seemed to be ripe for the occasion in terms of both dancing and blending in as another party-goer. As far as the other guests of the ball knew, she was being escorted by the son of some big-name company who happened to be in the bathroom. That's why she was carrying his blazer after all! If people asked which company it was, she would say it was for electronics, in Sewit, and that they positively loved donating to charities such as this one. Yes, she was absolutely prepared for the worst should it come by.

And yet, she felt absolutely nervous and giddy about making that first step inside. She was a rebel, a party crasher of all things! How cool was that? How bad was that? It wasn't every year that she slipped into high-class parties as though it were nothing. She needed to be subtle. She needed to breathe. Bite the bullet Kennedy. Bite the bullet. Chewing the bottom of her lip, she entered inside, stunned by how beautiful the room was. Long gowns, a giant globe full of cash, and even a classy band! She was going to have a great night here, even if it meant getting caught.

Tea, huh? Theo thought to himself as he quietly kept an eye on the people slowly arriving to the charity event.

He wasn't being attentive in accordance with the duties assigned to him for the evening, but more so out of routine. The days of having to be ever watchful when he went outdoors, making sure he had exits available to him if he was cornered, it was all programmed into the dark haired teen by this point in time. No one liked to be cornered and beaten up for being different, and Theo disliked it especially so.

When Clowrey asked Theo what his mom did for a living, his attention snapped back to her quickly, "Oh, uhm. Well, you see... Uhm. She's an, uhm, an opera singer."

A smile ran across Theo's face as he talked about her, and a twinge of pain shot through his heart as he reminded himself that she wouldn't be here and began to miss her terribly. He let his mind wander for a hot second of what would happen if she was here and realized he wouldn't like her being here either. As soon as everyone found out she was a singer, she'd get requests, and all the single yuppie men would try and cozy up to her in hopes of getting even a smidgen of her attention.

He didn't like the idea and quickly became glad she wasn't there.

"She, uh. She had rehearsal tonight, so, uhm, she couldn't make it." He said quietly, very much the story of his life. She was busy so she couldn't attend. She was busy so she had to cancel plans. She was busy so someone else had to pick him up. It made for a lonely childhood.

She's damn lucky to have an attentive family, Theo thought to himself, some inner jealousy twitching. I wonder what her Dad's like. I bet she turns into goo in front of her dad, like all Daddy's girls do.

Theo could feel the huffy attitude rising in his chest and sigh heavily, looking down and scratching at the nape of his neck before faking a chill to mask his attempts to shake off the feelings he currently had. It wasn't her fault she had a better life.

"I like tea," Theo said abruptly, "M-maybe, uhm, I could meet your Dad?"

"Ohh, >>theater<<," she repeated quietly, wondering if Theo was upset that his mother couldn't come. He probably understood why--Clowrey had seen it several times too. No one who worked in the theater or opera had kids or visited their family often, as far as she was aware. It was one of those incredible busy jobs that require a lot of self attention...Clowrey couldn't help but wonder what she was like--'Must be pretty amazing to be a mom and teach Theo baking,' she pondered to herself, remembering their first meeting. If Theo was saddened he was doing a damn good job of hiding it! she thought. She could have sworn he was, but then he suddenly became glad. 'How strange,' she thought to herself, 'And now it feels like his smile is forced? Either he's really upset about his mom not coming, or he had some bad punch...' Clowrey had no idea that the reason for his inner turmoil, asides from possible Oedipus issues, was being jealous of her. Oh what would she do, if she actually knew...She then nodded to Theo's question; "Sure, he'd love to meet a fellow tea lover," she replied. 'Although 'lover' doesn't describe Dad well enough...'
"I'll let you and Ane know as soon as they get here. By the way, I wonder if she's here yet..." She looked up and glanced around, trying to spot Anemone in the crowd. There she was--Sitting alone, almost on the other side of the room! "Want to go over and say hi?" Clowrey asked, remembering the two were roommates.

Theo smiled pleasantly as Clowrey agreed to introduced him and Ane to her father. It would be interesting to meet the man who sired his friend, the smoke machine. Theo wondered if her father was a Hero of some sort, too. He could no doubt see his daughter being one, especially with the airs she had about herself. Proud, righteous, stubborn. He noticed it, especially in the Control Room, and especially whenever she talked to that Black Blood guy.

Theo perked up when Clowrey mentioned going over to see Ane. He'd seen her come in, but in his conversation with Clowrey he hadn't noticed she had been wall-flowering, much like he had.

Her partner must not be here yet, He thought to himself, watching her quietly. This was a good opportunity for him to be in a group setting, not that he liked them. However, it was just Clowrey and Ane, and he liked them both well enough where it wasn't too much of a hassle, and maybe either or both would be willing to share a little more about themselves if there were others around. not that Clowrey wasn't an open book already.

"Y-yeah. Let's go say hi," Theo said with a smile, "She, uhm, she looks a little lonely. And I'd, uhm, I'd be a bad roommate if I didn't go say hello anyway."

Metaphorically detaching himself from the wall, Theo patted his clothes a little to straighten them out. He didn't want to seem like he was unpresentable or anything, but before they were to head over...

Theo lightly poked Clowrey in her arm and looked away with a funny face as he posed his question, "Uhm. You, don't, uhm, you don't have to if you don't want to but, uhm... Would, uhm. Would you like to dance later on? We're, uhm. we're probably gonna be busy watchin' everyone, so we won't really get to hang out unless we're, uhm, we're dancing or anything.... Ifyoudon'twanttoit'soIunderstand."
