"Not the doctor," Reine replied hurriedly, then blushed. He thought she'd look nice!

He thinks I'll make you look nicer.

Not funny! That's getting old, anyway.

"A princess golem, huh? I guess that's kinda interesting..." She pondered the concept momentarily, breaking out into giggles when she imagined Jordan as a princess.

Her prince-- no wait what. N..not hers. Just the one she was trying to rescue.

"Whichever you prefer, I'm cool with anything. Unless you want to impress me, of course, in which case by all means, go ahead." She poked him lightly in the side, teasing. And then wondered why she was the one blushing, when she was teasing him.

Turning away abruptly she looked around at the course instead. "How about we race?"

"Yeah, no, not the doctor." Jordan looked faintly disturbed by the thought. "Maybe ask Clarice who you could go to." He didn't want Reine going to see Dr. H without good reason any more than she did.

He made a very undignified squeaking sound and leaned away from the poke, eyeing her warily. Damn, she'd surprised him into reacting. Must be careful. "A race, okay. Sounds good to me," he said hastily.

A smile ghosted over her lips when she heard him squeak- well, that had been unexpected. She had the decency not to laugh, though- manly pride and all that, right? Besides, Reine could commiserate. A well-aimed poke could send her tumbling to the floor in fits of giggles.

Not really the kind of thing she wanted to show Jordan.

It seemed she'd unnerved him enough, at any rate; flashing Jordan a grin, she summoned Alynthe, and looked towards the shadowlings lurking. Yep- she could do this.

"See you at the finish line," Reine teased. With a deep breath, she charged straight at the shadowlings, hacking and slashing her way through.

"Right behind you," Jordan laughed, and summoned Ferros as he took off at a run. Ferros snarled with satisfaction as he tore a swath through the shadowlings, clearing a path for them to climb the tower.

"That's right you are!" She giggled, glancing backwards at him. There was something therapeutic about destroying things; Jordan had been right. And killing shadowlings was far more productive than, well.. other things, she supposed.

Like Spencer. They'd never quite managed to figure out who (or what) he was and why they'd had to kill him- he'd looked so human. And so young...

With a squeak, Reine tripped over one of the shadowlings and fell over, her face hitting the floor. Almost immediately she managed to pick herself up, and slashed at the shadowlings gathering around her. This wasn't the time to think about the past, or Spencer; but why couldn't Caelius have sent them to kill proper monsters?

Having cleared a path, she stepped into the next room-- traps. Greaaatt.

Reine tripped, but recovered quickly, before Jordan could get really concerned. "Don't let them distract you," he advised. His longer legs were letting him catch up with her; Ferros cut through the shadowlings hopping down onto the stairs in front of them, growling happily at the taste.

Jordan made it into the next room a couple of seconds after Reine, and paused to survey the layout. Traps, ugh.

He'd caught up with her quickly enough, even if she'd (unfairly) gotten a headstart. Pouting slightly, Reine hopped ahead again, trying to dodge the traps.

"Worry about yourself, Boss!" There was a terrible moment of almost, almost falling into one of the traps, but Reine managed to catch her balance and steady herself. Close call..

She looked back at Jordan with a grin, almost taunting him.

It was a choice between speed or caution here, really. Jordan picked out a path, took a breath, and started across, moving as quickly as he dared.

A click under his foot and a creak overhead were all the warning he got. He threw himself forwards, and the stone ball that dropped out of the ceiling missed him by bare inches. "Damn," he muttered, mostly to himself.

Don't do that, Ferros advised.

Thanks for the advice, Captain Obvious.

Speed was pretty obviously not the way to go. Jordan picked his way more carefully after that, looking carefully before he placed his feet. It was sheer luck that he hadn't landed on a second trap; hopefully he wouldn't screw up again.

Whoops, she'd told him to worry about himself, and then he'd almost gotten caught in a trap.. Reine knew it had nothing to do with what she'd said, but she felt slightly guilty anyway.

Biting her lip, she turned back to face the exit, only to step on something in her carelessness; something wet and squishy fell on her. Whatever it was stung painfully, raising red welts on her skin. Shrieking and flailing, Reine managed to get the-- what-- jellyfish?! off her, but the pain still remained, and it brought tears to her eyes. Half-running, half-stumbling, she barely managed to reach the end, collapsing against the wall when she did.

Reine's shriek distracted Jordan, and he took an automatic step towards her. A sound like a puff of air made him turn, just in time to catch the long stake that shot across the room full in the chest. The force of the impact hurt, and it made him stagger back; once again, he was thoroughly grateful for Ferros's shield.

Somehow, he made it across the rest of the room without further mishap, and he leaned on the wall for a moment, catching his breath. "You okay?" he asked.

"I'm fine," she managed, groaning a little as she used him to prop herself up. "Man, I didn't see that one coming at all." The pain was about wearing off, thanks to the FEAR shield, and Reine pulled herself up, still slightly wobbly, and clung to the wall.

"How 'bout you, Boss?" He'd taken a hit, as well, a stake right in the chest- weren't those things supposed to be for vampires? Almost by instinct she reached out to pet him (too much time spent with Otto, maybe), as if trying to make sure he was okay.

Not that it helped much.

With the pain mostly gone, though, Reine was starting to feel a little more competitive again. Making her way up the remainder of the steps, she found herself at the top of the tower, face-to-face with two somewhat familiar figures.

Her initial reaction was to just gape at them: Jerry and Otto decked out in frills and more frills, and then she approached them somewhat curiously.

"Boss, you gotta see this.." With a giggle, she prodded at Jerry's... boob, then rested her head on his- her? chest. Squishy. Man, the life division had probably invested a ton into researching these things.

"I'll take this one," she grinned. She sort of owed him that much, after beating Jerry up.. it almost felt like a chance to 'atone', by protecting him this time. "You can have puppy- but don't manhandle him.. um, her, or I'll come after you for it, okay?" It was nice, though, to have a breather, and Reine knelt by Jerry's side, attempting to pick the lock.

Jordan nodded. "I'm fine," he said. "That just hit harder than I was expecting. Okay." He straightened and headed up the stairs after her ... and came to a sudden halt, grateful that he was behind Reine, because it took him a few seconds to control his expression of pained disbelief. Really? Really? It was like some cosmic plot to make him uncomfortable.

At least Reine had decided to leave Princess Otto to him. "Don't worry," he said dryly. "I'll be careful." He crouched and fiddled cautiously with the manacle, ignoring Ferros's quiet snickering. The manacle clicked and fell off. Okay, that was one.

The first manacle had been easy to break. Reine sat cross-legged beside Princess Jerry, talking to him and fussing with his hair. Man, could Jerry stay like this forever? Reine wouldn't mind having another female friend.

Leaning over, Reine attacked the second manacle gleefully. He'd be free soon! And then.. she supposed, they would have to go back down the tower, past the.. traps. Shuddering, Reine worked harder trying to unpick the lock, but unlike the previous one, when she tried to take it apart, it exploded.

She didn't even have time to realise what had happened, until it hit; the bright flash stunned her, and with a shriek, she was thrown backwards by the explosion. The only thing that registered was her FEAR shield disappearing- and then she crashed into the wall surrounding the top of the tower, crumpling into a heap on the ground. Blood trickled from her forehead, and parts of her skin were badly burnt.

On the other hand, the golem had its arm almost completely blown off.
