Robert didn't know what Madison was so worried about - while she may not have been exhibiting the grace of a dancer, she sure hit hard. The strike came down and he buckled, letting out a laughing cough before straightening up again.
"All right, two swords it is. First thing you wanna understand is that those aren't two swords. In fact, one day, if you want to get real fancy? I bet I could show you how to use four of them effectively. But before we can even worry about that, we have to work on your stance."
He moved behind her, putting his hands on her waist. "Straighten your back. Spread your legs out so that your feet match up where your shoulders are. Make sure your knees don't lock, and then.." The hands lifted her up, just slightly, until she was weightless. "When you're swinging, you want to have the right fluid motion. Feel like you weigh nothing, until you land. Like this."
He moved away, stood in front of her again, and gestured for her to try it.

"What, all four?" Madison pulled back and stared at Robert as if he'd grown an extra head. How could you even- Kouki?
We will bite him!!
... Right, okay, whatever. Madison would think about what Robert meant later; right now she turned her focus to the older man's directions, trying to shift her stance and understand what he meant. "Fluid... okay. Like dancing, not like stomping around. Light and quick..."
When he was ready, she leapt at him, trying to be light and airy and sweeping the swords again, but she stumbled on the landing. A hit? Yes. Graceful? Hell no.

Holy- Robert crumbled at the slices, legitimately feeling the strain of the hits so far. He grinned down at her, giving her a wink. "That was good. Don't get discouraged - almost all of the hard work in a good move is stickin' the landing. trust me, it's hard. But what you gotta remember for hittin' a good landing is your footwork. If you're always aware of where your feet are, where your ankles are pointing, what you're about to land on.."
He backed up, lifted into the air, and his body turned in mid-air, slicing the batleth down diagonally before he ever hit the ground. But when he did, he landed toes first, his feet pointed and fluid.
Way too delicate for a guy like him.

Madison tried to block the blow, but most of her focus was on watching Robert's feet. She winced and stumbled back under the forceful strike. "Good one," she managed, straightening. "Feet. Okay..." So feet and then one sword and then the other sword and ugh, how many limbs did she have to coordinate at once?! All of them, apparently.
"How about, um, recovering? Like, getting away after hitting something, or... I don't really, like, have the strength to block effectively..." She tried to slip past him, thinking nimble, graceful, fast, and slicing at him with one blade. "Dodging, too, ugh..."
Kouki was annoyed; the serpent-sword's runes were glowing with stored energy now, and he hissed angrily in her mind. She tried to ignore him.

"Getting away, huh." Robert murmured, wincing at the slice. "It's hard for me to think seriously about what I do when I get away. Like, I don't usually have a plan, it just happens. I think your best bet is to always stay loose, like.. if you've jumped in to make an attack, keep your body in motion. Even if that means getting closer, you could end up surprising your opponent."
Robert charged forward, his batleth slicing against her shoulder, but then he disappeared - his body had curled in and rolled right past her. He unfurled behind her, twirling and holding his weapon pointed against the back of her head.

"I guess I just need to get it to be instinct-" Madison stumbled as a cut she hadn't even seen coming hit her shoulder, and she spun, but Robert wasn't there, either. He'd gotten behind her somehow, and she leapt away from him, using one sword to try and push away his weapon while flailing gracelessly with the other. Friend or not, she didn't like the feeling of that point pressing against her scalp!
Meanwhile, Kouki was still hissing.

"Sort of. I wouldn't call it instinct so much as experience. Practicing a move over, and over, and over, for years.. well.. it makes you do things without thinking."
His body leapt into the air, spun halfway, and brought his batleth down on her with a flourish that ended in his arms splayed out like a bow. His front leg was pointed forward, and his back leg was bent at the knee and tilted behind him. It was altogether far more dance-like than his usual style, but.. well..
Madison was a girl. And it couldn't hurt to show off a little.

Madison probably would have appreciated Robert's prowess more if he hadn't just smacked her, but... well. Battles were battles. Once she had recovered, she raised one eyebrow at Robert's pose, then grinned. "You really were a dancer. That's... really awesome, actually-"

"Oh. My. God. Kouki, calm dow- rrrrgh." Madison lowered the swords and rolled her eyes. "Uh. Kouki's charge is ready, and he won't shut up, uh... want some... blocking practice, maybe? Or I can just deal with it after."

"'A release'? If he starts moaning, dude, I'm outta here," Maddie said, wryly. "Alright, alright already! Geez-" She took a deep breath, then gave Kouki the command. Instantly the runes on the blades flared, and the swords in her hands lifted free, joined by the blades still sheathed rising up and out of their scabbards. For a moment they hung in the air, perfectly still.
Then the blades snapped upwards, pointing right at Robert before rushing towards him at speed, landing a hail of blows before looping away and returning to Madison.
Sssssssssss. Kouki radiated contentment.
"So. Was it good for you?" Madison said with a bright smile.

"Ow. Ow. OwowowowoOWOWOWOWOWOW OH GOD WHAT IS HAPPENING-"
Robert's hands rose up to protect his face as the swords flung at him, slicing time after time after time. The cut into him so effortlessly that he finally dropped to his knees, shredded thoroughly and looking far worse for the wear than he'd expected.
"You may not have the footwork down.." Robert huffed out with a hoarse breath. "But you've got the firepower to back it up, kitten."
He couldn't even stand. He held his batleth in one hand, slicing it across her knees from his position.

Madison hesitated. "I, uh. Do you want to stop now? I don't want to actually like... really hurt you..." She gave him a highly uncertain, vaguely uncomfortable look as she recaptured the swords' hilts in her hands. She winced and stepped back at his attack, but held back just the same, waiting for his answer.

"Give up?" Robert pushed one foot back on the floor, and used the batleth to support himself as he rose up to stand. "Me?" He grinned, a loopy expression on his face as he pulled the weapon back out, almost falling from it's loss.
"That ain't how I play the game, princess." He laughed, swinging his batleth wildly at her once more.

Madison jumped backwards, but not quite fast enough; the blade smacked into her side, and she stumbled. Any opportunity she might have had to attack was lost as she spent precious time trying to regain her footing.

Robert took advantage of her stumble and got one last slam down, with the rest of the strength he had remaining. He was out of breath, and failing fast, but he still gave it everything he had.
