The Iron Magus Yeata Zi Exactly. They should just have two holidays instead of trying to force them together. You do that, and the calendar will start to get a bit crowded. Plus, I think most people would forget about the boring Christian holidays that are all about sacrifice and sin and death, and just participate in the fun Pagan ones. blaugh Probably. But that way people don't get preachy about the "reason for the season" and then I can celebrate the way the less gigantic religions do. Nobody sees silly little animal men giving children acorns for Rosh Hashanah.

I am so hardcore about holidays that you don't even understand. I LOVE HOLIDAYS. RAAAH
I'm jewish, so i celebrate hanukkah. It's fun and all, but sometimes it's a little sad because i tend to feel kind of left out when there's all sorts of christmas trees and stuff. I'm pretty sure every jewish kid wanted a christmas tree at one point. XD
But being jewish is pretty cool all the same. We get candles and stuff, which is nice. Christmas just sounds kind of appealing at times. :d
edit: of course, being jewish doesn't prevent me from dressing up my avatar for christmastime on gaia. there aren't really any jewish items, so dressing up for christmas is way easier. I figure a gold and blue avatar doesn't seem as holiday-y as a red and green one. :d

Yeata Zi Eh..... the nonreligious parts of Christmas tend to make me angry sometimes. Not as much as with Easter. God. Why is Easter so stupid? This dude died in a horrid manner--so we celebrate by hiding eggs. WHat does that even mean? Christmas I can forgive a little more, because at least we have *giving* involved. But, damn. Holidays. Actually, Easter is the celebration of Christ's resurrection and defeat of death, not his actual death. I think the eggs are supposed to represent new life in that way for Christians, but I'm not totally sure. That's probably just an excuse... sweatdrop The death of Christ is actually commemorated on Good Friday (the Friday before Easter), and it's a very solemn service. And the birth of Christ is actually far less important to the beliefs of Christians, so I feel like it doesn't really matter when and how it's celebrated. For me, Christmas is less about the religious part of it (though that does play a part) and more about the general warm, fuzzy feelings that it brings. Or at least, that its supposed to bring. It's incredibly sad to me that so many people become depressed around Christmas because they aren't able to experience it the way it should be for various reasons. Also, I'm pretty sure the whole pagan holiday stealing thing was just done so that people who had celebrated things like that all their lives and for generations before wouldn't have to stop, making them more receptive to Christianity. Or I could be making that up. *shrug*

DOn't you worry about that, now <3 Zombie Jesus for the win. It is the most important holiday in the Christian arsenal, although it can be slightly down played by CHristmas sometimes. (I think this is because Santa>Easter Bunny, and human beings are inherently greedy little boogers.) I'm glad you get warm fuzzies. Again, I am definitely a scrooge--so my thoughts on this subject are horridly subjected to my own personal cynicisms <3 The holiday stealing, I believe-- was to keep everybody happy by combining them. Perhaps not, though.

I'll probably always keep the trappings of "Christmas" even though I don't celebrate it as a spiritual holiday anymore. Nobody's taking my Christmas tree! Or... Holiday Tree. Or... Family Tree. Or whatever it is they're calling it these days. Hey, I don't see any tinseled evergreens in the Bible, so I guess we can all have one. Eruravenne Actually, Easter is the celebration of Christ's resurrection and defeat of death, not his actual death. Oh yeah, good point. Maybe not though XD Israeli colors are more of a navy blue and white, it it was still nice to not have them so blatantly christmas-y. XD I was talking to my father in the car and we saw a "put the christ back in christmas" bumper sticker, and he ranted for a while about how christmas was a pagan holiday, and then told me i could get a tree if I wanted, because it wasn't christmas-y at all. it was pretty funny.

Perhaps not, though. Actually, Ascension Day is forty days after Easter... Though I'm not actually sure if all denominations celebrate all those days (I was raised Episcopalian aka Catholic-Lite), so I guess it doesn't matter. But anyway... You're right about why Christmas is so much bigger than Easter. It probably also has to to with secularization, too. It's easier for non-Christians to celebrate Christmas than Easter, I think. I mean, even in Walmart, you can buy chocolate crosses alongside the chocolate bunnies at Easter. It's kind of silly. sweatdrop

I have tried to make Channukah avis.

While christmas has santa claus and elves and all that, hannukah has mostly stayed true to what the holiday is actually celebrating. the only think I could imagine them making would be dreidels and menorahs, but i think that everything else is more or less off limits. :d

I celebrate the way my parents do. Which is long and painful. With Christmas eve dinners, midnight church, hideous decorations that I have to put up, prickly murdered christmas trees, tolerating my drunk piece of s**t uncle as he insults my mother (his sister), me and my sister when all I want to do is punch him in his smug mouth etc. etc. You know... normal christmas s**t. No wonder the holidays have the highest suicide rate of any other time of year. <3 I actually used to be a "peer minister" at my college--but I've more or less given up on that. They screwed me over on taxes, and there's only so much I can do when my only job is to buy food for everyone on Sunday nights and try to set up prayer meetings that no one will show up for. I actually think that perr minister job has turned me somewhat from religion..... which is kinda terrible. Anyways, I think I'd like to talk about happy holiday stuff.

You'll be a joyless atheist like me in no time. xp Yeata Zi Anyways, I think I'd like to talk about happy holiday stuff. Okay, cool, um... I'm probably going to be getting a Kindle, a new phone, and a video game for Christmas. Whee! Yeata Zi Being Jewish sounds awesome *dreamily stares into the distance* You SAY you have no idea what your preferred way to celebrate is, but it sure sounds like you do. What is it about the way Hanukkah is celebrated that sounds so appealing to you?
