"Nice," Jordan said, impressed. He backed up a few steps, taking a moment to breathe; that had been a good hit, and he was pretty sure it would have hurt considerably more than the shock of impact and sting of the slice if not for the shield effect. "Haven't tried the Life course. Don't think I want to be out for any length of time in the Life division, somehow."
He stepped back in, bringing Ferros up in a diagonal arc. It was still pretty much impossible to tell which of them would win this; as far as he could tell, they were fairly evenly matched.

"Just a hint, make sure you are fine with someone drawing over your face if you get knocked out. It can happen... a lot I am told." Poor Cass. A step back as the blow connected. The battle was wearing on them both, but it was a good string for practice. A slash and miss emphasized just why it was needed.

"I'd say something about that depending on whom you were playing against, but then I thought about that some more. Yeah. Doesn't sound terribly appealing, really." Marcus sounded like he spoke from experience, or had at least been told by someone who'd tried it themselves, Jordan thought. Well, likely enough. "The Mist course just sounds - er - tiring."
He, too, missed, the hammer swinging a good six inches off true.

"It always seems to be explosions or flames or something. Kind of weird to think about getting used to dying." The sudden lunge and slash caught Jordan off guard, catching him squarely across the torso and throwing him back with the force of it; he rolled back up to his feet, panting. "Damn. Good one. That's gonna bruise, I bet."
He assessed how he felt, silently nudging at Ferros. We're just about done, he said after a moment.
I want another hit if you're not going to let me flame, Ferros grumbled.
Yeah, but I'd rather not end up getting knocked out from a friendly match. Still, he wasn't going to give up quite yet. Another glancing blow, but he was tiring now.

Winching at the weapon got him, Marcus stumbled back for a second. "Thanks. As for dying," Marcus rolled the sword in his hand for coming up to strike. "Better fast than slow."

"I'll give you that one, yeah. Giant fireball and then waking up in the pod a few seconds later is one of the better outcomes, thinking of it that way." He should probably concede now, but - well, if Marcus didn't give in with this one, he would then. Jordan put his strength into it; if he was going to get in a last hit, it should at least be a good one.

Grunting from the blow, Marcus was knocked back with the force, a few feet of distance between them now. "When you also consider the offer to try it without a golem... Yeah, fast death is preferred." Wow Marcus, way to be morbid.

"When you get around to beating it, that is. Sadists over in that division, I swear." Jordan eyed Marcus thoughtfully, trying to assess what shape the other man was in. Hard to tell; but that last hit had been a good solid one, and Marcus didn't show any signs of giving in. Ferros?
You're not bleeding yet. Suck it up.
Easy for you to say. You're not the one who bleeds. Still, Jordan couldn't help chuckling at Ferros's aggressive attitude. He took a few steps in, closing the distance for another shot.

"Masochists, sure. Sadists, maybe if we were laughing about people getting blown up on the training courses - oh, wait," Jordan deadpanned. He had to take a moment to catch his breath after the jab, and he was sure Marcus couldn't have much left in him either.
Knowing when to retreat might be a wise trait, but he'd stuck it out this long; he got the impression that this spar wasn't ending before someone bled. Masochism, huh.
We would've won already if you let me flame, Ferros growled, irritated.
Not what this is about, you. He'd barely missed, but still - a miss.

Marcus nodded. "You have to admit, it's funny in a way when it's not you." It totally was and if you denied it well... that was a pretty big lie now wasn't it? "But, it's never personal." As he swung for the legs, Marcus thought it to be true. You just couldn't take it personally.

"We're all on the same side," Jordan agreed. He didn't manage to jump back quite in time; the scimitar's edge slid down across his leg, and he could practically feel the snap as Ferros's shield fell, the weapon growling in irritation. He took a step back, lowering the hammer to his side and holding his free hand up in surrender. "That's it for me," he said amiably. "Any more and it'll actually start hurting. I concede."
He let Ferros return to ring form and held his hand out for a handshake. "Good game."

Dis practically purred in Marcus's head as the weapon we desummoned. Jordan had almost had him too. Nodding, the hand was grabbed and given a bit light squeeze. "It was. Thanks for coming out here and sparring with me. Do it again another time?"
He hoped so. It had been a bit fun.
