Ah, Bix's words definitely had truth to them. "Maybe you would have discovered something that you wanted to do something," She mused, though she supposed that it was too late for such thoughts now, "Trust me, I didn't even consider being a nurse until I graduated from high school. Up until then, I wanted to be..." She held up her free hand, holding up a finger for each occupation in her list, "A teacher, an officer, a vet, a freelance artist, a dancer..."
She lowered her hand and grinned sheepishly. "I can't even draw or dance, so I'm not sure where those last two came from." When she thought about it, she had spent the last few years of her life scrambling for answers, and now she was here. Kind of unfortunate she never managed to finish her nursing program though.

Bix hopped and instead of running and shooting began to try and attempt some close combat, swinging his bow like a quarter staff at the other girl. They seemed to lock together for just a moment when he twisted and tried to hit her in the side.
"Oh man.. wait till you see minipets. You can do feeding duty, to help out." Bix hopped backwards a bit to dodge any oncoming attacks. "They are the Halloween versions of pets. Some are cute but most are terrifying. But they are just little animals so no real harm. The Life hunters use them for experiments I think. We can feed them and play with them so they get exercise."

Eva had most definitely not been expecting for Bix to swing his bow like that. Unfortunately, as a result, her attack had been successfully blocked by his bow. Moving backwards, she laughed and fanned at herself with her free hand. "Nice! Never thought to use a bow like that, to be honest."
She seemed particularly interested on the topic of the minipets. "I'd love to see them sometime, then. I'll have to keep them in mind the next time I have free time to kill!" Which was...all the time, unless she was sleeping or training. "That sound pretty fascinating though--could you give me an example of what some of these...er,'minipets' look like?"Quote: HP: 21 / 40

"Well sometimes my opponents get too close." He chuckled and she retreated backwards so he took aim once more, letting fly a few arrows.
"If you want to feed them I suggest finding Clarice." He was now on the defensive again. "She's a life hunter. Higher rank then us. She's Dr. H's assistant. She can hook you up." Bix was watching her staff, suddenly grateful that he knew she could heal. That would be handy on the field. Was he already thinking like a soldier?
"Ok so some of them just look like dogs and stuff. One of them is like a skeleton dog? Theres a cat with batwings I think? But some are weird like little living dolls who look just like miniature people. Oh and there's a carrot with teeth and eyes." Weird. Kind of sick!

"Clarice, got it!" Eva noted, swinging her weapon at Bix again, "I'd definitely love to check these things out." They sounded...fascinating, really. Cat with bat wings, skeleton dogs...

"They are like normal pets I guess. They like to eat and they like being petted and getting attention." He shrugged. "Some are nice and some are mean. Guess it depends on the type."
Bix watched his bow pulse and glow in his hand but he was not planning on using his charge shot again. Not on a female freshie who never fought before today. Mina moaned for release again and again in his head. He really needed to work on blocking her out.
"So your weapon can get a little crazy once it's charged but you don't need to use the charge right away." He fired on her again, just a normal arrow.
"I don't plan on using my charge again.. Mina is pretty mad. But your weapon should hold the charge as long as you keep fighting. But you usually can't get anymore than 2 charge moves out of a fight. Something about us not being strong enough to control the FEAR yet."

Hmm, so it was really just their appearance (and what they were made of?) that differed them from regular pets, huh? Despite having not been here long, Eva already suspected that there wouldn't be much to do around here beyond training and missions, so perhaps she would be able to find some time to kill and visit this Clarice person. "Visit minipets" was added to her (very short) mental checklist of things to do.
Eva appeared a little unnerved as she realized that Bix's bow was charged up again, but her worry was dispelled when he informed her that he wouldn't be using it. Oh, phew. Though...
"If, er, if Mina is mad, shouldn't you go for it anyways? I'm a little nervous, but I'd...probably be okay." She was quick to smile, bringing Chara down in a missed swipe before dodging backwards and raising her staff in such a way to block any incoming arrows.

"Are you sure?" He hopped backwards and lifted the bow, still unsure. If she wanted to get a real taste of this place though, it was probably best to go all out and if you get your butt kicked, just keep going. His charge attack wasn't nearly as powerful as others. Arrows weren't exactly packing a huge punch.
"Okay.. here goes." Bix aimed above her head and fired, a familiar flash as it split apart and rained down around Evie.

Oops, maybe that hadn't been the best idea
To be honest though, Eva didn't really regret it. The point here was that she was supposed to get tougher--strong enough so that she could beat whatever it was they were fighting against--so the last thing she wanted Bix to do was hold back in this fight. Newbie or not, she needed to get a taste of what she might be going up against.
The arrows didn't hurt as much as they could have because of the shield. That was, until the last arrow suddenly grazed her bare shoulder. Eva yelped rather loudly at that--it was just a scratch, but something about that stung a whole lot more than the other arrows did. Was it the arrow itself?
I'm sorry, I...I can't keep the shield up.
...Oh. Then now seemed like a perfect time to stop. Grinning, Eva rubbed at the shoulder and desummoned her weapon. "You win! Not that I expected any other outcome--you've really got a way with that bow."

Bix smirked a little, pink at the compliment. "Thanks. But they pick us, remember?" He chuckled. "Yours must have known you were a nurse.. or something." It made sense to him somehow.
"You okay? Wanna head back?" She looked no worse for wear but Bix was a little relieved he hadn't lost to a newbie. "Head back, shower up, get some grub."
He desummoned Mina, feeling the familiar weight of marbles back on his belt.

Hmm, true! It wouldn't have surprised her if Chara picked her for that reason. Perhaps she could ask her later, but for now...
"Works for me," Eva grinned, deciding to be completely invasive (as usual) as she flung her arm over his shoulder, "Let's get going, teach."
Eva knew that not everything was going to be fun and games here, but until the serious stuff started up? Playful teasing seemed like a good way to pass the time. Nope, she definitely didn't regret coming here.
