"Morning!" she greeted the man chirpily, though he merely grunted in response to her and Eva. It was only when Eva drew her attention to it that she noticed the handgun, and flinched visibly- that thing was dangerous, especially if you didn't know how to use it, and then Eva was pulling her into the portal and then---
It was clear from her friend's question that the other girl didn't know how to use the handgun either, which meant they were both in trouble. Looking decidedly nervous, she gingerly took it from Eva's hands, inspecting it. From TV shows and games and movies and the like, she knew the first two rules to shooting: one- point the barrel towards the target, not yourself, and two- pull the trigger to shoot.
Maybe if they got lucky, they wouldn't have to use it; after all, as long as they had the target suppressed (and in Alice in Wonderland the dormouse had been suppressed by being chucked into a sack and sat on), that was considered clearing mission objectives, wasn't it?
"I.. I know how to, theoretically, possibly... But first things first, uh... I think.. we keep it out of sight?" It wouldn't to do be walking around in broad daylight carrying a gun; especially not when she was feeling twitchy; what if she accidentally suppressed people other than the target?! "Here, I'll keep it in my coat.. for now.."
Gulping, she stuck the gun in a pocket, afraid of shooting herself accidentally. "Two blocks, you said?" Hopefully the target was alone at home... what if they walked into a birthday party or something? How would they even....

What the two trainees did walk towards, thankfully, was not some sort of slaughter house or Institution for the Damned, but actually a coffee shop, boasting a 'Delaney's Coffee, serving for 10 years' in neon green on the sign outside. It was a small shop right on the corner of the street, and impossible to miss, as all the other stores around it were closed. In fact the warm lighting seemed to almost invite the two trainees inside.
Before the two could consider what to do next, a single figure in an apron walked out, holding a larger large garbage bag. He took two steps, and then another hesitant three down the shallow stairs before literally, stopping in front of the two trainees with the most confused expression on his face, still holding the oversized bag. "Can I help you... ladies?" His eyes quickly flickered to their odd choice in clothing, a little confused.
A little tag glistened under the street lighting right on the left chest pocket of his apron reading 'Hello my name is Spencer Adams, have you had your latte today?'

Oh god, this was the guy they were supposed to used the "Suppression Artifact" on? But he was...look at him, in his little apron and everything! He looked so harmless! Eva turned to look at Reine, a small pout on her lips before she let out a grudging sigh. Well...a mission was a mission--she supposed that it couldn't be helped.
Since Reine had the gun, Eva stepped in front of her as to block the younger trainee from view. Hopefully she could use this time to ready and use the Suppression Artifact. To their target, she smiled and fluttered her fingers in hello. "Sorry, are we bothering you--" Her gaze flickered down to his name tag, just to ensure that they had the right person, --Spencer? Actually, we were wondering if the shop was open right now."
She grinned at him in a friendly manner, though her mind was focused on Reine right now--hopefully the other girl would let her know if she needed to, well, duck or something.

"We haven't had our daily latte today," Reine piped up. She caught Eva's glance, returning it with a similar pout- someone reminded them of their little Otto back home.
Suppression artifact? Use it on him? Really?
"But we're kind of running low on cash..." Propping an arm up over Eva's shoulder, the slightly taller girl leaned over, putting on her best cuteface. Taking advantage of the boy's surprised look, she quickly whispered into Eva's ear: "C..can't do this, oh god, can we just keep him instead?!"
He even came in a little apron. That precious little apron, and that cute look on his face...... Reine had to close her eyes, turning to Eva instead and whispering again.
"Maybe we can question him? It's what you death hunters do, right? Collect information?"

"Hold that thought for a second-" he waddled over towards the trash bin, spend a couple of sends shoveling the bag into the already overloaded bin before turning around, wiping sweat from his brow. "Wh- Oh. Yes, well, its part of my job." Spencer gave the pin a little flourish with a wry smile, before looking around rather guiltily behind him.
"Um, I need to get back to work. Or...." He turned around and yelled back to the coffee shop vicinity. "HEY BOSS CAN I HAVE MY BREAK?"
A pause and then a muffled "Sure, whatever" responded from inside.
"Well then, the latte is my treat." It was clear, despite their two outfits, that he could not deny the invitation of two simply irresistible women. And the bigger question: blonde or brunette?

Eva, unfortunately, was thinking the same thing as Reine was. Look at him! He was harmless--a puppy, just like their Otto! When he turned away to ask his boss for a break, Eva looked at Reine, her brows pulled together and a frown on her face. "I don't want to do it either, but...what would I even question him about?" They didn't know anything about this guy beyond the fact that he worked at a coffee shop and that Caelius wanted the suppression artifact used on him.
...Hmmm, what did their superior want with this guy anyways? Eva pressed her palm against her cheek, looking Spencer up and down. Maybe they had some kind of past together or something. Whatever the case, she wouldn't be able to bring herself to shoot him right now, and she knew that her friend wouldn't be able to either. At least it was a suppression artifact, and not something else. That sounded reassuring, right?
Sighing, she leaned over to Reine and lowered her voice to a whisper. "I suppose we could stay a while...but Caelius will expect us to return soon with this poor guy in tow, so..."
Trailing off, she flashed a smile at Spencer, moving forward to take one of his arms. "We appreciate it! We don't feel truly awake until we have our morning latte."

The.. the way he looked at them, oh man... Reine was already convinced Otto would enjoy this new playmate, and she told Eva as much, leaning close to her friend and whispering in her ear.
"Let's make it quick, then... I.. I'm not going to do it, though, you know, shoot him point-blank.. god, you know we can't kill him... maybe just.. disable? If it comes to it?" She swallowed hard, then moved over to Spencer's other side.
It seemed like every boy they met would be treated this way- Eva holding one arm, Reine clutching the other, while they marched him off.
"Mmmm, morning latte. Hey... d'you know.. that is, have you ever seen a tallish, middle-aged guy with black hair in a strange haircut? I know, I know, you probably get tons of customers every day- but try to recall, okay? He's a little creepy. Might be dressed a bit like us."

And Spencer was rather happily locked between two beautiful women, blissfully listening to them prattle about lattes in the morning and ... tall middle aged guys with black hair and strange haircuts. So the teenager did the only thing a teenage nineteen year old working at a coffee shop in the ghetto could do at this point.
"Which one?" He stopped in mid-stride, intensely trying to dig into his memory for possibly which haircut could be considered weird. "I mean Mark is pretty weird, and then there's George, lets not even get started on George-" His tone lowered a notch, into a loud whisper, "I don't even think that's his real name you know."
Spencer continued to prattle off a few more names before suddenly stopping. "Wait a second. 'Dressed like you'? His expression went from pleasant to slightly suspicious. "Are you all... into LARPING?"
Before any of the two could answer, there was a buzz, but not from the trainees' new acquaintance: it was their cell phones going off simultaneously. And unlike a text, the phone continued to buzz in brief intervals, every 5 seconds. When they flipped it open, they would only see a single message on their phones.
"Deus Ex Gate Closure in ETA: 9:45 minutes"
It continued to tick down.

Eva couldn't resist giggling at the thought that had passed though her mind--that this "George" fellow was actually Caelius in disguise. But surely he would choose a name other than George in that case, right? The name didn't suit him at all!
...But maybe she would try to call him that when they were back to gauge his reaction.
She stiffened when Spencer's expression suddenly became suspicious--what did he know about the Hunters?--but she immediately let out a laugh of relief when he asked if they were LARPers. She shot a grin at Reine before clearing her throat, about to answer when her pocket suddenly beeped. She heard the sound in Reine's direction as well and, frowning with confusion, she murmured a quick "excuse me", flipping open the phone with her free hand.
"What is--" A timer? ...Gate closure? Snapping her phone closed, she looked over to Reine again, her lips pulling into a frown. It looked like they needed to do this now.

From Eva's giggle, Reine knew her friend was thinking the same thing. Could Caelius be... George? Of all the undercover names... somehow, Reine felt 'Steve' or the like suited him better.. or maybe some really pretentious name like Charles Frederic--- nah, Caelius was still the worst.
"Hey Evie what's LARPin--" the two girls extricated themselves from Spencer simultaneously, checking their phones; it wasn't just a message, apparently, it was some kind of timer...
Gate Closure. If she remembered right, Caelius had said that only after suppressing the target would they be allowed back. Was this a temporary portal? She looked at the timer ticking down, feeling her heartbeat quicken as well.
Surreptitiously checking the previous message, it read: "Use the Suppression Artifact".. nowhere did it state that they needed to use it on him directly, right? Even the message saying to 'subdue' him with the suppression artifact hadn't been explicit; maybe if they shot near him, he might faint in shock or the like.
"Evie, hold him." She whispered into the other girl's ear, unable to look Spencer in the face anymore, and then pulled the gun out, quickly aiming it at the ground near the boy, and pulled the trigger.

Spencer eyed the gun. "Wow, that's a really dressed up gun, is this Sci-fi week because I left my costu-"
BANG!
The bullet ricocheted off the ground and hit one of the trash cans with an even louder CLANG.
Even with Eva restraining him, Spencer jumped a foot. "HOLY ********." And that was all he needed, a burst of adrenaline - surprisingly strong enough to break even the trainee's hold as he backed up a few paces, stared incomprehensibly at the two, running as fast as a coffee shop barista could.
The timer continued to tick down: 7: 55 seconds. OOC TARGETING SPENCER:- Roll a 100-sided dice, you can roll as many times as you like before you capture him, but please rp out all the effects that happen. Only one person can hold the gun at a time (alternate if need be) - 1- 20 The bullet richlochets and grazes the person targeting lightly. - 10 HP - 21 - 40 While chasing Spencer you run into a garbage can, injuring yourself lightly - 10 HP - 41 - 60 The gun locks in place, the trigger mechanism seems to be temporarily jammed - 61 - 80 You hear police sirens behind you: it looks like you need to get out and soon as someone has called the police. - 81- 100 Your aim is true and Spencer goes down with a soft thud. Should you check that to reverify?

Reine had hoped it would be a stun gun, or maybe even a water gun, though considering Caelius' lack of a sense of humour, she supposed she shouldn't be too surprised that it was just a normal gun.
Shooting normal bullets.
The clang scared her, but when Spencer ran her instinct was to chase him. "STAND STILL," she yelled. It was going to be so much harder to aim where it wouldn't kill, when he was moving, especially considering she had practically 0 experience with a gun.
Narrowing her eyes, she attempted to shoot again, only to have the bullet hit a trash can- and then ricochet back at her, grazing her leg slightly. She managed to trip herself up somehow, and sitting on the ground, her first thought was to toss the gun to Eva.
"Evie, go get him! I'll be fine!" The bullet hadn't left any mark- Reine was just stunned.

Jesus Christ, was that a real gun!? It wasn't just Spencer who had jumped at the shot, but Eva had flinched as well, eyes wide. However, she snapped out the moment she felt Spencer pull away from her grasp. Uh oh. "Hold on a sec, pup--" She didn't get to finish her sentence before he started to sprint away. What could they do but go after him? This was their mission, after all.
She started after him, flinching again as Reine aimed and shot at the fleeing boy again. However, when the bullet only ended up ricocheting back into the life trainee, Eva immediately came to a stop to take a few steps towards her friend. "Reine! Are you oka--"
Eva nearly dropped the gun as it was tossed to her. She stared down at it, bewildered, and then back up at Reine, giving a small nod of understanding. Turning around, she lifted the gun and aimed. "Sorry, puppy." And then she pulled the trigger.
There was a moment of silence, and then she lowered the gun. Did she get him?

The kid lay face down on the floor, between a couple of trash cans and a puddle of black ooze. Slowly, crimson began to seep out from where the bullet had hit him right in the back, onto his clothing and the asphalt alley streets. Spencer was not getting back up, ever.
In fact, if the trainees were expecting some sort of surprise, perhaps for him to disappear into a cloud of dust or suddenly dissipate, they were rather disappointment. His body just lay there, the growing pool of blood larger by the second.
There was a soft wham and then a jingle: someone had just exited the shop. They took three whole steps before they saw Reine and Eva - still holding the gun - and then the body only several feet away. Silence and then-
"POLICE!" The man screamed at the top of his lungs as he hobbled towards the center of the street. "POLICE!"

Even as she'd struggled to get to her feet, the 'BANG' from the gun, and the corresponding thud caused her to fall over again, staring helplessly at Spencer's body. Looking down at the puddle she'd splashed into, she almost saw red- dark, thick red; blood they'd spilled.
We killed him, Reine thought, dully staring at Evie. We killed him.
And then they weren't the only ones painfully aware of the fact- someone was screaming POLICE, and the jarring sound was enough to snap her out of it. Standing up awkwardly, she practically jumped at Evie, grabbing the girl's hand and running in the direction they'd come from.
Gate.. where was the gate? There was no time to check her phone for the timer; all Reine could do was run blindly.
