The second time the attack hit, Reno anticipated it, but not enough to shake the damage off. The talons managed to slash across Reno's fur, and she let out a pained Pii! as she went back. Snarling a little, Reno moved to swat at the Murkrow, but Noah's quick command cut her off.
"Reno!" He chided, fuming a little. Her temper was something he knew, and outside the ring, it was a simple thing to control. But he needed her to get a leash on it. "Fire blast!"
The fiery pokemon's tails twitched as she reared back, breathing in and blowing fire at the Murkrow.

This Vulpix had good aim! Sienna remarked as her pokemon was hit once again with a powerful Fire Blast. "Hang in there, Enide, you can do this! Keep it up with Aerial Ace!"
Burning feathers trailing from her body, the Murkrow dove at Reno once more, talons outstretched.

This time, Reno heard the command as it was yelled by the Murkrow's trainer, and braced herself. When the talons hit, she yelped, but braced herself against the attack. As soon as the Murkrow hit, Noah called out a command.
"Iron tail, Ren!"
The vulpix pulled back from the Murkrow and spun sharply, lashing out with her tails again.

Enide was throw backward by the impact of the vulpix's tails, but quickly regained her focus and lashed out with another aerial ace

Reno snarled a little when the bird struck again. The same attack had the advantage of being easy to see coming, so the damage was kept to a minimal, but it still hurt. She reared back and blew a blast of fire at the bird again.
Noah winced at the attack, and watched as his vulpix took matters into her own hands with that attack.

Enide was still close to the Vulpix when she let loose another scorching blast of fire her way. It struck dead on, had she not lowered Reno's defense earlier, the murkrow would have been in a lot more trouble. She was starting to wear thin now though, there was only so much burning she could take. The whole area was starting to smell of burnt feathers and fur.
"Let's switch things up with Night Shade!" Sienna called out. It seemed a bit unfair to keep using a move that never failed. This battle was about trying new strategies out with Enide after all!
The murkrow shook her tailfeathers in flight, getting rid of some of the more damaged ones, before projecting a cloud of negative ghostly energy at the Vulpix. She had no idea what Reno would see, but it was bound to echo a nightmare.

Noah was secretly grateful for the switch. Try as she might, Reno couldn't block or dodge that aerial ace. At least she had a chance with other attacks. Before he could call out for her to watch herself, the attack struck.
Reno shrunk in on herself, staring at the mirage blankly. Whatever she was seeing, Noah couldn't, but it was enough to make the vulpix whine and curl her tails around her back legs. For the few moments it lasted, Reno practically curled in on herself. But then it was gone, and Reno was back in the battle. She shook her head harshly, growling, and tensed up for another attack.
"You okay, Reno?!" Noah grimaced, watching her, but Reno didn't acknowledge it. She was waiting for the command, so Noah let it go. "Facade!"
Reno leapt from her spot, running for the murkrow to strike.

"Keep it up with Night Shade, girl! Focus!" Sienna advised to her Murkrow.
Enide nodded, and quickly focused herself, readying another Night Shade. Right before the Vulpix went to strike, she threw the ghostly energy at her and took to the air, out of the way.

This time, though the vulpix was nearly struck by another gruesome vision, Reno managed to break through it before it began, and looked momentarily pleased with herself for that dodge.
Noah, too, was pleased. The murkrow and her trainer were tougher opponents than he'd anticipated. He hoped for Reno's sake this would be enough to sate the poor girl for a while. "Fire blast, Reno!"
Reno sucked in a breath, and moved back, exhaling fire and turning her head in an attempt to follow the Murkrow's movements for a strike.

Enide's eyes narrowed as she dodged another burst of fire, feeling the heat as it passed closely by her. She didn't want any more burnt feathers, and continued flying haphazardly and in strange patterns.
When she had the chance however, she swooped low and projected another veil of ghostly energy at the Vulpix.

Reno didn't dodge the gruesome mirage this time, and she shrunk back as the images assaulted her, screwing her eyes shut against them and whining as her ears flattened against her head. It lasted for longer this time, it seemed, though maybe it was just Reno who thought that. Finally, she shook herself out of it, and fixed the murkrow with a dark look before running ahead.
Anticipating the vulpix's need to strike, Noah called out another command. "Reno, Iron Tail! Knock him out!"
Reno ran as close as she dared to the bird projecting those nasty illusions, then spun, smacking with her tails as they went ramrod straight and hard as steel.

Enide practically growled like a Growlithe as she skidded to a stop on the arena floor. That last attack had knocked clear her out of the air, but she was at least able to land on her talons.
Without waiting for a command from her trainer she shot off the ground, readying another Night Shade for the Vulpix, and just before she banked upward, threw another evil cloud Reno's way.

"Reno, Quick Attack!" Noah yelled sharply as the night shade attack was thrown Reno's way again. She stepped back, for a split second thinking about ignoring the order and firing a blast of fire at the bird, but decided against it.
Instead, Reno leapt forward and ran. She picked up speed, running right for the nightmareish haze, and managed to dodge the shade as she ran at Enide, lowering her head to run right into the Murkrow.

The Murkrow was thrown back higher into the air by the Quick Attack, and quickly projected yet another blanket of ghostly images at the Vulpix before she retreated.

The haze hit Reno again, and she shrunk back, trying to block out the nightmare as it was warped and exaggerated to extreme proportions. Finally, she broke through the haze, shaking her head and swaying a little at the damage done. Noah took her pokeball out, nearly ready to pull her back and a call a forfeit. She glanced back, and bared her teeth at the pokeball, turning to the Murkrow.
She was not going out without one last attack.
Reno ran at the Murkrow, digging her claws into the dirt as she spun around, whipping her tails out at the Murkrow in another Iron Tail attack. One last hurrah, if you will. If she went out, she'd go out with a good hit. Hopefully.
