What was... oh. Jove had forgotten his brother wasn't the sort to leave injuries unexplained. But the pup had his own way of addressing these concerns as well. Which was to turn his head and look behind him, as though wondering what Ren was pointing at.
Diversion addressed, in his mind at least, Jove turned back and flopped against Ren in a big hug, wrapping his arms around his brother's neck. This was why he had returned to the academy, in spite of the pain and the deaths and the sheer uselessness he had felt after the last field trip... It was for his brother, and for his friends. If he hid himself away until he dissolved into the air around him, he wouldn't be able to see any of them ever again.
Pulling back from the hug, the little pup tried again to wag his tail. And then he bared his little teeth in a little growl, the tone rising in a question towards the end. He hadn't forgotten about that offer, and was now ready to fight and get stronger. Except... he was missing a couple teeth on the left side.

Ren had been attempting to reprimand Jove for the very obvious bruises that were on his body, especially since they looked both very recent and very painful. He had fully expected a diversion, however, and was ready to interrogate his little brother to the best of his abilities until Jove spilled the truth about his injuries.
That was a little hard to do when said little brother was flopped against him in a big, squashy hug.
Ren sighed.
Then he returned the hug, wings flapping against his back. "You don't play fair," he harrumphed as Jove pulled away, big fluffy blue tail wagging back and forth. The teeth baring, however, he didn't expect, and Ren eyed Jove suspiciously.
"Ye-es?"

Jove growled again, this time the upwards turn in pitch was much more dramatic. The pup was clearly asking for something in an uncharacteristically aggressive manner. Furthermore, he was undeterred by his brother's mock grumpiness and suspicion.
The growling went on longer this time, until the pup sat down on Ren's legs and cradled his left arm. Then he just stared expectantly. Had his language skills been degraded in all that time he spent in his natural form? Or had he just used all his daily allotment of words waking the gryphon up? Either way, all Ren got was eager staring, and the twitch of the pup's wounded tail.

Ren stared at Jove very, very suspiciously.
"You're hiding something from me, aren't you."
It wasn't exactly a question, Ren sitting cross-legged on his bed with his arms folded across his chest, wings pressing flat against his back, his tail flicking into his lap.
Then he realized Jove was looking at him with a Very Expectant Look. Ren eyed him.
"What?"

The pup shook his head, the expression flickering across his face somewhere between "Not a thing," and an exasperated "That again?" look that dismissed Ren's question entirely. The bruises were irrelevant! For the little foxfire, that incident was in the past, and all that was left was recovery, physically and emotionally. And the more important of the two was his emotional recovery.
Unfortunately this one clearly hinged on his fighting skill, even though he looked like he needed a good week of bed rest rather than picking fights with older boils.
After a minute of his expectant look getting nowhere, he chirped up again, "Fight!"
