Bujinkan is NOT real ninjutsu. Let me clarify more. The reason Hatsumi drop usig the N word alot is because he simply doesn't TEACH it. The main material in the Bujinkan comes from Gyokko Ryu, Koto Ryu, and Kukishinden Ryu and all of these are NOT ninjutsu schools. Of the three schools that the Bujinkan lists as ninjutsu Gyokushin is highly suspect because its listed as Jujutsu alot and even from other students of Takamatsu, such as Sato Kinbei, list the school as Gyokushin Ryu KOPPOJUTSU (not NINJUTSU), Togakure is very suspect as well. And Kumogakure has not been taught. That is why BUDO TAIJUTSU (WAR WAY BODY TECHNIQUE) is used now instead of NINJUTSU.
I said some things above about what I have heard about the change in the name any thing is posible. Also I would bet that all styles used by the ninja are no more what I mean by this is that I dout if you were learning from some one who new what they were talking about its probably not going to be exactly the same as what ninja used. From my reading ninjas ranged from Ronin to Yamabushi I would bet that whatever they knew they mixed in with other things if they mixed any thing at all I would have to say that there is probably ninja roots in a lot of styles in japan. I read once that ninja became secret police during the Meiji period and so some of the ninja probably traind some people.
Hatsumi and Stephen K Hayes may not teach Ninjutsu but I dout any realy do. To many fake it and to many can just figure out how to copy things that ninja did. I have made ninja weapons like shuriken and kyoketsu shogi with the knowledge of how to use other japanese weapons and looking at historical art work you can pice alot together so if you realy wanted to any thing ninja could do you could find a way to learn. I have learnd severl silent walking methuds most of them are tought for sentry removal. I have learnd sentry removal techniques from military manuals and I realy don't think ninja techniques are much difrent.
Any way I just think that if any one is telling the truth about it the people who know it are probably involved with other styles and just mix everything they know this is just how martial arts evolve.
