Okay! Being the Resident Evil and Silent Hill buff that I am, I will explain my take on the fight. I am excluding ALL movies (Silent Hill & Resident Evil: Apocalypse)
Nemesis, like Pyramid Head, was created to seek out particular individuals (S.T.A.R.S. members for Nemesis; Guilt-ridden people for Pyramid Head). Both Jill Valentine and James Sunderland squared off against their respective executioners multiple times, either defeating them temporarily or escaping each time. Both are intensely persistent, following their targets until they physically can not.
Pyramid Head has superhuman strength, but loses speed in exchange due to both his choice of weapons and the large helmet for which he is named. He is virtually unmatched in melee combat, but lacks any range to speak of. People have pointed out that Pyramid Head can appear and disappear at will. I have only seen Pyramid Head appear in extremely crucial situations designed to test James. The power of the town constantly holds him back from killing his quarry. On the same note, Pyramid Head kills Maria ONLY because she is a part of the town, and therefore able to be revived endlessly as part of James' punishment, as seen in SH2.
Nemesis also has inhuman strength, demonstrated when he picked up a full-grown man (Brad Vickers) with one hand with minimal resistance and hold him aloft for several seconds. Nemesis also does not seem to actually need his weapon of choice, using it only to shoot down a helicopter or attack Jill in two different scenes. Another thing that seems to have been forgotten (either due to not playing RE3, or simple ignorance) is the fact that Nemesis also uses the purple tentacles on his body as weapons, which he uses to kill Brad Vickers in Resident Evil 3, as well as Nicolai near the end of the game. These natural weapons are extremely deadly, able to kill a character in two to three attacks, depending on the pattern of assault. Finally, Nemesis grows stronger as he takes more damage, up until the final battle of RE3, where his body is irreparably damaged with highly corrosive acid and he reaches the peak of his power.
As for the actual fight, I will break it down into five categories and compare the two: Intelligence, Melee, Ranged, Persistence, Difficulty
INTELLIGENCE ------- Nemesis Nemesis would win here, in the respect that he will improvise and adapt to the situation. He floods the basement of a restaurant when Jill and Carlos Olivera attempt to hide there, and destroys a helicopter that would have rescued Jill.
Pyramid Head may be creative to a fault, killing Maria in several different ways, but that is where his intelligence seems to end. He acts in single minded pursuit of his target, to the point of simply chasing him in each encounter with whatever weapon he possesses at the time. Never does he deviate from this, save for when the town of Silent Hill tells him otherwise.
MELEE COMBAT ----------- Pyramid Head Nemesis would put up a great fight in close quarters, but would ultimately be defeated. Part of this lies in the fact that he never uses any sort of melee weapon, save for his fists and tentacles.
Pyramid Head wins handily in this section, due to his almost complete focus on capturing a target in confined spaces. He never attacks James in an open area and will passionately chase his target into a corner, where he can finish the prey off with either the Great Knife or spear.
RANGED COMBAT ------------- Nemesis Nemesis wins this category be default, as he uses a Stinger rocket launcher as his primary weapon at a distance. Using it, he can hold an enemy at bay from a safe distance, such as the top of a building.
Pyramid Head has no such toys, and must close any distance between him and a target on foot to engage in melee.
PERSISTENCE --------- Nemesis Nemesis will not stop until he is rendered unable to move, at which point the NE-T Virus counteracts any damage dealt. He is able to survive volatile explosions, such as gas canisters and can even take a shot from a rocket launcher standing. After sustaining intense damage, such as from prolonged exposure to intense flame and losing his coat, Nemesis utilizes the T-Virus' mutagenic properties to grow stronger and faster. Nemesis is only defeated after he is hit with an experimental rail gun, a full cylinder of .357 magnum rounds, and a nuclear missile.
Pyramid head is immortal, and only retreats when told to do so. He often does not seem interested in actually following James as much as he is appearing at seemingly critical times and becoming a metaphor for James' guilt. In the circular hallway where the player obtains the Great Knife, Pyramid Head only walks in a single direction, only attacking if James is withing striking distance. In this respect, he does not seem as hell-bent as Nemesis when it comes to chasing his target.
DIFFICULTY ---------------- Nemesis Nemesis has been hailed as one of the most adaptive bosses in the Resident Evil universe. His tactics range greatly, from standing back with a rocket launcher to an outright assault to intelligently forcing his target to face him. He packs a great deal of power in every attack, easily killing an unskilled, unprepared player in a matter of seconds.
Pyramid Head's fights, while intense, are not difficult. All the player must do to win is stay away, which is fairly easy, as Pyramid Head is generally slow enough to run circles around. While he can kill a player in one long swing of the Great Knife, such an attack is obvious, as it takes a few seconds to execute. The only exception to this is the hallway under Brookhaven Hospital, where the only objective is to escape.
FINAL SCORE: Nemesis: 4 Pyramid Head: 1

You provide a very thorough analysis, and definitly shed far more light on Nemesis than could have hoped. However, long range really cannot be a justified area because as you stated Pyramid Head only approaches his targets in confined spaces, gladly cornering them. And this is, in fact, to be true in multiple cases. Pyramid Head can appear/disappear at random, this is why he disappears faster than you can catch up with him in Homecoming, or in any of the Silent Hill 2 moments. To say that Pyramid Head cannot kill James in the game is almost ignorance of the fact you CAN die (and I have died multiple times)... mainly because in such tight spaces, with a blade as long as the room is wide, there's not much room to run past him.
Also, Pyramid Head's execution scenes, such as against Maria when there are 2 Pyramid Heads, are not mere creativity, they are representations of how the executioners of old killed their targets. This really plays no major role in the fight outcome, i just wanted to share some light on the matter.
The big thing between Nemesis and Pyramid Head in Melee would be that, as you stated, Nemesis will eventually Fatigue. For this fight to even take place long enough to deem a victor, you'd have to consider Pyramid head never being drawn away by the siren. And in that regard, Pyramid Head would never take damage or run away or fatigue. So he is all three relentless, tireless, and invincible.
But you see, I give credit to Nemsis only peaking because his body was irreparable from corosive acid... and clearly Pyramid Head has no such thing... on the other hand, something else worth mentioning, Pyramid Head keeps up rather well in the Hallway you mention in Brookhaven. Anytime I've ever looked behind me he is ALWAYS right there on my tail booking it almost as fast as I am.
Ultimately... to be unbiased upon reviewing both sides of evidence... I would have to place them at a stand-still. An immortal monster simply cannot die by combative means, and nemesis clearly has his tactics and endurance to keep himself mobile and both are just pursuing the other as a dog chases his tail.

My only response to this is that I have only died from Pyramid Head of my own accord to see if a special animation existed for being killed by Pyramid Head. My insight and analysis comes from personal gameplay, not the gameplay of others, so I may see things differently than most when it comes to difficulties in combat.

Lol well playing Hard on my first run through was fine and dandy enough to earn me the honor. biggrin But I have already stated my final verdict that the two are at standstill. Just like you can never really compare silent hill and resident evil, being two completly different types of games, they are two completely different beings in their own respects. Pyramid Head lacks the weaponry to defeat Nemesis, and Nemesis cannot destroy that which is Eternal. A better comparison would be like.... Pyramid Head Vs Walter Sullivan.... or Nemsis vs another mutant like Sadler (though we all know how that would end).

This fight reminds me of a game I used to play called Archlord... and in the intro video, a skilled Orc fighter and a skilled Human fought over ancient artifacts... but they found, after fighting for literally days, that neither possessed the ultimate power to destroy the other for they were too evenly matched.... instead they set aside differences to unify for a time of peace between man and beast. So perhaps Pyramid Head and Nemsis should side up to destroy the enemies of their respected franchises.

heart SH2 PH
He gave me nightmares for years.
Now, I can't be the only one that through NEMESIS was hilarious, right? To be honest, I only just played RE3 about 2 months ago, vs. playing SH2 back in 2002, so that does have some effect. NEMESIS was intimidating in the game, but he was killable and he talked. Silence is much scarier than speaking.

Believe me, if you read through the arguement earlier, I am a huge Pyramid head supporter... but the evidence has been brought to attention that the only reason Nemesis was killable was because he was irreparably damaged by acid. The two would be locked in an eternal duel, with Nemesis not being able to kill an immortal entity and Pyramid Head lacking the weaponry necessary for the final kill.

My first playthrough I couldn't get him close enough to the acid to use it. *grumble*tank controls *grumble* so it is, in fact, possible to kill him with Jill's weaponry, first time through. It didn't take that long either. I only had 3 health items and 2 guns, killed him in like 2 minutes. I think PH would make even shorter of the fight w/ The Great Knife and, you know, immortality.

I suck at timing in games and he wouldn't sit still, so in frustration, I just pumped him full of lead until he stopped moving. twisted

Tough call, tough call. I love both RE and SH. (And Dead Space as well..)
Soo sorry Nemesis, but Pyramid Head wins this hands down. He has super strength, tough armour, and that big-a** sword. Nemesis, sure he can regenerate, but I think during the regeneration process, PH would shish-kebab him with the sword. And if he does regenerate, PH can also disappear. And Nemesis only has the arm and the machine gun.. So.. Tough luck.. talk2hand

No such thing as a bullet limit. twisted but see i would probably follow the same process as you if I was in that situation (because time seems to be rather a nuisance to me as well).

Hello? the possessed chick does not need a firearm.

Damn... I feel so out of place here. Admittedly, I've never bothered to pump Nemesis full of lead, so I assumed that was the only way to defeat him. It's sad when you're the only supporter of one side. Then again, this is a Silent Hill guild, so I'm not really surprised at the result. Still, Nemesis only died after taking several shots from a Rail Gun, a cylinder of magnum slugs, and a nuclear warhead to top it all off. My argument stands: There would be no winner.
