"Oh wow I.. I'm so sorry I didn't.. I didn't know" she frowned upset at herself for doing it again, now she really didn't know what to say... She looked down at her feet blushing embarrassed by her faux pas risking glancing only so far as his paws, she was screwing things up again just like she always did

Makoto sighed in relief and looked up at Onyx again visibly relaxing, she rarely had a conversation go so well with all her blunders. "Anything interesting in the book?" She opened her own again finding the pages that most confounded her and turning it so he could see. She pointed to one of the odd symbols "I can't figure out what this means" The symbol was all over a hand drawn map the filled the two pages but wasn't shown in the legend and she hadn't found any reference to it yet, it could be anything or nothing "You haven't happened to come across it have you?"

Makoto nodded understanding, she couldn't expect him to find it in an instant, he had only just started after all, but at least now he knew what she was looking for. She flipped a few more pages which she had already scoured before coming to an entry which didn't seem to belong. Nothing in it was geography based, it seemed instead to be a letter to a loved one.. but why put that in a journal when you could mail it? It didn't make sense. "Mon petit chou" She began, she had read up on the french language and though she suspected she wasn't as fluent as Onyx she did know a decent amount, she had managed to school herself on several languages, she found it fascinating how much you could learn of a culture by it's language, in english 'pumpkin' is an endearing term which seemed silly because what was endearing about a pumpkin? And in French 'mon petit chou' was an endearing term which meant 'my little cabbage' or basically 'my brussels sprout' ... what was with using food for endearment.. though with the french it made more sense they were all about food... but brussels sprouts? Blech. "It's a love letter.." She looked up to Onyx "He was away working and wrote a love letter to his wife..." she looked back to the letter it was sad, his wife would never have gotten the letter, perhaps that was why there were flowers pressed in the book, he had intended to send it to her? What happened to him then that he never had the chance?

Makoto flipped on, it was fully of entries becoming more and more confusing, talking about things that couldn't possibly have happened, his maps stayed ever true to form but the entries in between... "I think he went insane" she looked to Onyx in surprise. "He talks about mountains speaking to him and ghosts stalking him..." she didn't know what to make of it, she didn't believe any of that was possible but there had to be an explanation... poisoning of some kind? Perhaps he unwittingly ate too many mushrooms that caused hallucinations and eventually death? Or maybe he had a degenerative disease which caused him to lose cognitive function? She had never read fiction before.. but this guys seemed to really believe everything he wrote about and that made it really interesting, like a puzzle she couldn't quite figure out without all the pieces.

Makoto shook her head not seeing any thing that might lend a clue, "He probably didn't know, it could have been something he ate, ergot in his bread, or bad mushrooms, or maybe a degenerative disease that was never diagnosed, anything in your book?" She pulled her eyes away from an entry about haunted caves to look at Onyx inquiringly. She half wanted to find the places he mentioned to see what she could find, the other half wanted to file the books under crazy and see if there weren't more sane ones to read. She had never believed in such things as gods, ghosts, or goblins but maybe the guy had left clues to what had happened to him in these places.

Makoto smiled, he was right but they way he said it almost made it seem silly. she shook her head at his question "Not yet, I always forget when I get into a good book" which pretty much meant she always forgot. "Do you want to take a break for some food?" She wanted to keep going but she had been told she could be tiresome when she wouldn't stop and his yawning scared her a little he seemed interested but other had faked it before only to become annoyed with her, she was trying to be better but it was hard when all she wanted to do was read and learn

She smiled again, glad there were others who enjoyed books, she wondered what books he had read, if they had read any of the same ones that they could discuss or if they read different ones they could share and trade. She closed the journal and placed it on the pile of others with a nod of agreement "Fish would be nice." She wondered if he had brought fish with him or planned on catching them in the lake. She wasn't much of a hunter herself, she'd pack her food at home to take on her little adventures. She had only started going on them a few months ago when she had stumbled upon a run down shack with some of the oldest books she had ever seen, she was hooked from then on, but she was still to much of a book worm to have any skills at hunting or fishing. Heck her ability to find old places and their books was just dumb luck.

She had watched him run off still wondering if he had packed a meal or intended to catch it, she didn't realize a meal could be caught so quickly. "Wow that was fast, you're really good at fishing!" she smiled thoroughly impressed. She chose one large and one small one figuring on having it be even that way. She thought about letting him have the lions share as he did do all the work, but now that she was thinking about food she was rather hungry. She hadn't packed much of a meal earlier and without the books to distract her she was rather famished, and he had let her choose first so she thought this was fair. "You know having you on my searches would be so much more helpful than a bag of berries" she giggled only half joking since that had been her meal this morning... she hadn't really given herself time to properly prepare. "Maybe you could teach me how to fish so well?" She had read many books on the subject but since most books were human written they didn't really help her much.
