`x Minor levitation (only three feet off the ground max), heightened hearing, and the ability to walk on surfaces soundlessly, excluding surfaces like water, or thin air. Levitation requires use of her energy, which may make her drowsy (or make her fall asleep, if used long enough). Due to her heightened hearing, Emma tends to have trouble with everyday noises, such as doors closing, airplanes, music played from the radio, and her stomach growling.
IN THE MIRROR
`x Emma has long brown hair that falls down almost the whole length of her back, which she usually wears down and with a few hair clips to keep it out of her face. She has bright blue eyes, and a somewhat small nose. Emma is somewhat tall, although her features look more like they'd belong on someone who's smaller than her, which gives her a somewhat childish look. Her arms and legs are thin, and they're a bit like giant twigs. Her hands are somewhat small in size, with thin fingers and short, stubby nails, as Emma bites them because of a bad habit. She tends to gravitate towards comfier clothing, such as lightweight clothes with softer fabrics. Often times, she tends to wear things like dresses with short skirts and leggings, or short skirts, leggings and a t-shirt. Emma usually wears tennis shoes, and slip- on shoes such as ballet flats. Often times, she'll wear brightly colored ankle socks just because. Emma's clothes tend to have no pockets, as they're more of an athletic design than everyday design. That being said, she'll usually carry around a small bag - such as a small backpack or fanny pack - to carry things around in. Sometimes wears fingerless gloves for the same reason as the brightly colored ankle socks- because she can.
PERSONALITY
`x Emma's generally a quiet, non-combative person. She absolutely despises fighting, and tends to get pretty upset, sometimes to the point where she'll intervene and try to settle the argument herself. Thankfully, it's a bit of a challenge to get her to this point a lot of the time, so this problem doesn't wave its flag much. She can handle some violence if she deems it "necessary violence" (read: pretty much nothing), so to speak. Otherwise, good luck trying to get her to be okay with the concept of violence. Emma is kind of a pacifist, and it's pretty obvious in certain situations. Her self-confidence is hovering around the middle, but one knock downwards could leave her a bit depressed for a couple days, and a knock upwards could leave her pretty cheery for about five days. She can be pretty cheerful, and is a bit gullible. Often times, she tends to lean onto others for emotional support and help with things, which gives others the sense that she's a bit of a pushover. While this is true, she has learned a bit on when to push back and say "no," but then her anti-fighting side kicks in and she'll usually just go along with it if she feels a fight will break out. She tends to have a bit of an anxiety problem, so she'll sometimes make mountains out of molehills, and freak herself out. Despite this, Emma is capable of a lot of rage if pushed to the edge, and the rage is often pushed out in something like a meltdown, or her shouting, and pretty much taking anger out on whoever talks to her.
THE MEMORIES
`x Being born a doppelgänger, Emma was born the exact same way as the girl she was a mirror image of, down to the smallest details and the exact nanoseconds, despite the different states, parents, hospitals, and the like. As Emma was born healthy, Leah, the other baby, wasn't so lucky. The baby had to have multiple surgeries when she was younger, contrary to Emma, who was as healthy as she could be, save for the minor cold, cut, bruise, scrape, etc. Although, as soon as Leah started getting healthier, Emma's health started to take a turn for the worse. The transition of health between the two girls continued, and with it came Emma's discovery of Leah through a dream, and the fact that she was the girl's doppelgänger. This did explain to her why her health would come and go in waves, but to Emma's parents, it signaled that not only was her health coming and going, but so was the young girl's sanity. The confident statement from the young girl that she was, in fact, a "doppelgänger," that she had saw her other half through a dream, and that she had discovered why her health had been coming and going sent her parents' heads reeling. Worried, her parents sent the young girl to whoever they thought would help her the most, which ended up being a small handful of therapists, psychiatrists, and the like. Around this time, Leah's health had started to go down a bit, so Emma's had gone back up. Thinking that this might stop the girl's rambling about her being a mythical creature, her parents took her out of therapy. However, her continuing insistence that she was, in fact, a doppelgänger, and she had the powers to prove it, quickly discouraged her parents from thinking that her health going up would stop the babbling. And to make matters worse, their darling little girl was babbling about supernatural powers that she possessed, which allowed her to walk soundlessly on all surfaces that excluded what "humans could walk on," levitation, amazing hearing, and superb agility. By this time, their not- so- little little girl had grown taller, and the belief that she wasn't human had been circling around her head for three years. After a few comments about what would happen if "Leah hurt herself again and again forever and ever," her parents quickly sent her to a therapist to help work things out because they thought "Leah" was code for Emma herself, and that she meant to harm herself in some way. Emma, however, was beyond upset. She was a doppelgänger, she had powers, and she was genuinely curious about what would happen. Fed up with her parents treating her like her mind was about to crack any second, Emma decided to show her parents that yes, she could float a few feet off the ground, and no, she was not insane. This display of levitation pretty much convinced her parents that their Emma was in fact in possession of supernatural powers, but they still didn't let up about her possibly thinking up ways to harm herself or other people. Around this time, Emma's health nearly hit rock bottom. The transition of health between Emma and Leah had gone back and forth in varying degrees over the past three years, but Leah's sudden jump in health sent Emma's falling down flights of stairs. She gained a cold, and then a few fevers, before becoming sick almost all the time, running the risk of passing out a lot of the time, and needing help to walk around when it became bad enough. After about a year, her health slowly started to increase again, and her health soon rapidly increased, much like Leah's had when Emma's health nearly hit rock bottom. The sudden, drastic change in her health sent Emma into a cycle of worrying like crazy about Leah, eventually purposefully giving herself a bruise here and there in an effort to somehow make Leah better. The bruises were small enough that her parents didn't notice a thing at all, but it didn't do much of anything to help Leah, besides a small temperature decrease during a cold, or something small like that. After about a year and a half, Leah started to get better, and both of the girls were now fourteen when Leah's health started to get better, which stopped Emma's habit of purposefully banging into stuff, although the habit did give her classmates enough time to label her a "angry, p'd- off bull in a china shop."
For the past two years, no giant increases in health have happened to either of the two girls, but one's health is better than the others at any given point in time. Despite the minor problems of personality- trait switching at times of extreme stress for either of the two, and the sexuality swap that occurred once and lasted a week and was incredibly awkward for the two of them (although neither of them knew that they had switched sexualities at all), nothing has been out of normal for Emma, or Leah. The two have existed, having a sense of the other one existing, and have gone about their lives from day to day.
At age fifteen, Emma let her parents know about her other powers besides levitation, and managed to convince them a few days after her birthday that she wasn't going to harm anyone. In order to make sure that Emma wouldn't suddenly start floating off whenever, her parents sent her to Fuyu Academy, much to Emma's protesting about the fact that she'd have to leave her friends behind, along with her boyfriend, who she broke up with when she transferred.
THE QUIRKS
`x Tapping her right foot against the ground, playing with her fingers (mostly the fingernails).
`x Books, when her health is a-okay, swimming, spicy foods, Wikipedia, ice skating, dwarf rabbits, the smell of the air before and after it rains, etc.
`x Rain, when books are really old and falling apart, fighting, when people sneak up on her, pranks, really small text, incredibly humid days, screamo/ death metal, arrogance, etc.
`x Her phone, a pair of earplugs, her wallet, a pack of gum, a pencil, pen, and eraser.
THE TIES
`x Thomas, her father, and Karen, her mother.
LAST THINGS
`x Besides health, Emma and Leah also may swap personality traits, and sexualities (if Emma suddenly seems to be sexually attracted to males, this would be why). The sexuality switch is an incredibly rare occurrence, and Emma's personality traits have a tendency to change and switch with Leah's around the time her time of the month comes along, although most of the personality changes are relatively minor- Emma becomes a little more aggressive and outgoing, while Leah becomes a little more timid and anti- fighting. Leah is not a doppelgänger (just a human), and does have a vague sense that Emma exists. Due to the fact that the two girls are pretty much linked for life, if one of them dies, the other will too.
