A pale blonde head slumped over her elbow, its owner quietly regretting her inability to sink her forehead any deeper into her palm. The sweater that covered her shoulders was baggy, the pricey plum weave clearly tailored for someone larger: it hung over its young occupant like a dress. If she was honest with herself, though, Säde just didn't care.

She had woken up in a poor mood, and throughout the day it had gotten no better. She was tired - tired, and hungry in a way she couldn't quite describe; but assuredly hated it. She hated everything about this tension that had come over everyone, the prickling unease that settled over the school. Not to mention the eerie stillness that had come over what had once been moderately bustling towns. And all of it over these people who had their Hearts eaten by the Majin. That rattled her most of all. The husks of people without their Witch Hearts, the randomness of their attacks. The shifting eyes everyone now wore when they thought no one was looking, but of course, they were. Seemed as if folks were always looking now - watching their backs, all kinds of distrustful!

The mouthful of bun she'd bought from the counter tasted bitter in her mouth just thinking about it. The whole thing stank of a witch hunt - no pun intended. She could only imagine how ugly a display like that would be.

And then, of course, there was the main problem; one Säde was reluctant even to think aloud, for fear of some stray power catching the thought and whisking it right out of her head, out into the suspicious air. Who were these people, to be so easily attacked? Why couldn't they take care of themselves, not to utter a single word, not a cry of protest? Not to...not to defend themselves at all? Her hand tightened on the bun until it's sweetness oozed past her fingertips. It was a terrible idea to have, really. She shouldn't think ill of the Heartless.

As a matter of fact, she shouldn't think at all. Supple lips, the lower an ashen grey, sucked the offending sweetness from her digits. She should just be enjoying the time off while she was away from class and Makai. Grumbling, the witchling detached herself from her window seat - sliding up to the bar with a laziness that defied her mental jumble. Casually burning eyes scoped out the seats around her, the trickle of paired male voices touching her ears. "Spiced cider - yes, that sounds nice. One here too, if you please."

Those eyes lit briefly on a grey-toned, horned boy and a woman with startling green eyes that she felt faintly - and perturbingly - drawn to for some reason, something that touched gently on that hunger that gnawed at the back of her mind. But it was nothing, the girl was sure. She couldn't help the linger in her gaze before turning back to the bar and her incoming drink. Favorite thing about hole-in-the-wall places - people didn't expect much out of you. And they didn't stare at you like you were something ugly...or something Majin.

Makai Royal Academy || Dining Hall

The library was closed. The library was closed. What else was Azra'iel supposed to do with his night? He had written to his little sister just a few days prior, he was completely caught up on his work, honestly was too worn out to practice any further, and had eaten before heading out into the rain to find out the library was closed!

Champagne eyes blinked owlishly at the change in light level as he moved from the halls into the dining hall. Running his hand through his hair, shoving his ever-disobedient bangs out of his face, Azra'iel glanced quickly around the room. It seemed no one was really about this evening. Must have been the rain. Shrugging to himself and moving toward the hot beverage counter, the witchling retrieved a cup of mulled cider and turned to head back to his dorm room...but a colorful flyer for the Hallow's Even Ball caught his eye hanging on one of the discreet corkboards near the doors. In the back of his head, he could already hear his mother lecturing him the next time he visited home in regard to his 'lack of a social life.' His hand slowly squeezed the mug of cider it held, until his knuckles were white and his eye twitched slightly at the corner. He hated being lectured by his mother. Especially about his 'social duty.'

And he really could not believe he was standing, practically in the door of the dining hall, worrying about a theoretical lecture from his mother. Who was in Moonfall. And did not even know about the ball. Probably.

Now this was why the library being closed was bad. Without new books to distract himself, Azra'iel spent far too much time thinking. Far more important than the stupid ball was the unease that had been growing as the number of murdered witches climbed. The air was heavier with panic and suspicion every time Azra'iel ventured outside the grounds of the academy. He rarely did so now, preferring to somewhat lose himself in his studies. As ashamed as he was that he was hiding behind books, there was nothing he alone could do to help, nothing tangible that he could protect.

With a frown settling between his brows, Azra'iel turned back to the room, eyes scanning the tables and skimming over one occupied by a man he thought was a professor he had yet to meet before settling on a dark-haired witch and a witchling with pink pigtails. Moving over slowly, so as to not seem too intrusive, Azra'iel waited for a break in the conversation to see if he might be able to join them.

He certainly would not do well to go sit alone in his room to think all evening.

Makai Academy: Dining Hall
"S-sweet?" Ruria's face flushed as she stared at Rajih with inquisitive eyes. "What a peculiar thing to say. Do you intend to dine on me, then? I have to warn you, there's a high probability that I actually taste like the opposite of sweet." The dainty girl made a small noise as she chomped her mouth over another spoonful of the pudding, watching with interest at the magics Rajih displayed for her.

"Dark magic is beautiful. It's my favorite....Though, the type I focus on seems to get one or two nasty looks every hour, ehehe.... People just misunderstand it, I suppose. It's much like a knife. A person can use it to create, or they can use it to break." Finished with her gifted pudding, she idly pulled one of her long, pink twintails over her shoulder, spinning the strands through her fingertips. She'd never met someone else who practiced Dark Magic. This new information somehow piqued her interest in him. "Are you frightened, a little, of being persecuted, since.....the murders started happening?" her last sentence was a whisper, and she had to lean close to say it, her eyes flickering suspiciously towards Professor X.

After her whisper, she straightened a little, noticing another boy approaching. Pale hair, golden eyes. She let her eyes rest on him a moment, before tilting her head slightly and offering a smile. "Do you need a place to sit, too? It's relatively empty, here."

The blush suited her pale complexion as Rajih stared at her, quite thrilled that she was entertaining to talk to. he never really had a problem with talking though, overly friendly, especially to girls, he liked to say things that truly flattered them. Wasn't that the romantic way? he continued to smile at her happy, that she was in fact happy before his eyes flashed a wariness and caution.

"What a even more peculiar thing to think about Ruria, Would you like me to dine on you? I promise that even if you don't taste sweet, I would enjoy it none the less."
Even with the threat of Majin's stealing hearts, and the caution he now needed to take, he couldn't help but tease the girl before shrugging.

"I suppose it is, though I have now thought of my magic as something you would see from the depths of the ocean. Dark and unknown even to myself." He let the ball disappear on its own before cocking his head at her, "I'm curious then, you are a dark mage but I have not seen it? One day I hope to see it in action." Rajih shrugged as he looked over at the reaper teacher and then back to Ruria, "Perscuted? I suppose everyone is in fear over that...well unless I am proven guilty, then I really don't have to worry." Rajih's face didn't seem to match his words as he whispered back to her. He wasn't sure if the girl had caught on to him being a Majin or if she just simply wanted to know how he felt and played it off.

His head swiveled at the male Newcomer before smiling at him as well. "Hello! Come join us, the more the merrier!" he nodded to the seats next to him and Ruria before looking the boy over. "I'm Rajih, nice to meet you!"

Graveyard simply smiled at her familiar as she sat down, making herself comfortable amongist the tavern crowd before looking over at the Witch, startled to know that he understood her so well. Not many spoke the language of the tribes and so, she was even more thrilled that the Wishing folkman knew of it.

"It is a language not many speak anymore. While it is popular in my small tribe, I have yet to hear another utter the words from it." She sipped her tea before cocking her head at him, though he had such a unnatural attire for a witch, what made her curious about him was the hand that held a blinking eye, one of great power for the one he didn't seem to have anymore. "Thank you, The night has been a bit damp and dreadful with all the nasty rumors around." She shrugged.

Her eyes met that of the woman with electric green eyes and lovely attire, they held gazes as the woman winked at Graveyard before sitting down a table away, immersing herself in a game of cards.

"Ah you said it quite well!" She clapped her hands delighted to look back at him, "My name is Graveyard, Ars Lilium of Claus Arbor." her ears perked with happiness, "Thank you for speaking in my tongue! though, I will have to return the favor. And yours Master Witch?" she waited for his name before looking over to the Witch eater, still curious as to why the woman would find herself in the bar.

Makai Royal Academy

As Cedar took a step forward she remembered why she had stayed so late. She had an appointment up at the Academy. Out of the corner of her eye the Academy stood, and a bit of dread filled her. Since she graduated she had only visited the school once, and it was for a situation like this. She had an appointment. It wasn't that Cedar hated the school, but she wasn't untouched by the bullying. She received it mostly from those in her class... And she never got to show them what she was truly made of, because she was scared of what could happen if someone was ignorant of her magic.

She considered this thoughtfully, because turning directions and walking with purpose. No need to linger in the streets longer then needed. Her cloak flapped behind her, as she took strides. Her steps echoing off the buildings... It was creepy, she never felt like this before, and her pace quickened.

By the time she reached the Academy's entrance, swinging the large door open and letting it close hard behind her, she was panting. She doubled over, with her hands on her knees, the lantern's light dimmed out and she took a minute to catch her breath.

When she looked up, she was surprised not to see a single body. The school would normally be bristling with activity right now... She glanced over her shoulder, sliding her cloak off and hanging it over her arm and headed for the dining hall.

Rosel couldn’t help but notice the people the rain seemed to be driving in. She saw two men walk in, hand in hand, and the redhead immediately drew a glance. Bright colors and jewelry screamed for attention in an ostentatiousness Rosel wholeheartedly approved of. Too many people dressed in drab lately. Everyone unwilling to draw attention, and thus suspicion, to themselves. Her gaze slid away slowly. The key to not getting noticed wasn’t to hide, in her opinion. It was to be so bold as to be completely beyond suspicion. Even now, a student at the bar was giving her the eye. Let them look. That’s what she was here for.

As she was about to turn back to her card game, her peripheral vision caught on the redhead’s partner and she froze instantly. Her cards dropped and the man to her left, her prey, reached out consolingly. Ignoring him, and possibly damaging her chance at a meal, she whipped around to fully look at the white-haired witch. He looked different than how she remembered, but it had been so long. He was tanner, with a different haircut, but…

No. It couldn’t be Azra’iel. She’d bet her favorite earrings he’d never walk into a bar and so completely pass her by. Unless… he was turning over a new leaf and actually ignoring her. She smiled ferally as she turned back to her card-mates, all staring at her in confusion though alcohol-induced haze. ”I’m terribly sorry, boys, but an old friend just walked in. Be right back.” She winked again at the man to her left and made a display of getting up. Even if it wasn’t Azra’iel, it never hurt to make new friends. And his boyfriend certainly looked interesting.

However, as soon as she made direct eye contact with the witch, she immediately doubted her impression. The eyes, they were the same color, but darker. Or maybe they just looked darker because he was tan? She gestured for the bartender. ”Another appletini, please. You,” she continued in the same breath, flipping her gaze to the maybe-Az. “Look terribly familiar.”

It only took one bad apple to ruin a whole pie often enough. Now, some idiot witch eater was running round and not even bothering to try and stay to the shadows. Sure, going and asserting their dominance was good but it was hardly good when they didn't think about their fellow majin! Emelia was lacking in her ability to hunt no, and with deaths, came fear, and with fear came paranoia, and with paranoia....
Well, she'd been a bit homestuck due to it. It was as if someone was trolling her by tauntingly eating hearts and making a general ruckus and mess of thing.

Class act she'd give them that.

Night air chilled her slightly, as she hadn't bothered to wear the most 'suitable' outfit. She wanted to look good, and by the spirits she'd suffer for if she had to. Her chill wouldn't last long, as the witch eater made her way to a pub. Her goal was to do a little bit of feeding off of the possible witches there. A pub was usual quite lively, and easy cover for a few snacks. She'd never encountered another witch eater doing the same, but if push came to shove she'd go out to one of the late night shops, wait for someone to close up and have herself a bite. There was no need to fight over food after all.

As she entered the bar she was hoping to be greeting by the smell of alcohol and sweat, along with random drunks and a few easy targets. Tonight she was greeted by the smell, but the air in here- Thick with something along the lines of paranoia. Great. She'd come to feed and that witch eater's presence had pretty much gone as far as here too.

Huh. Curious. A student from the Academy, and a gathering of witches. Perhaps a reunion? Didn't matter, she'd find someone to- Hmm... The woman with vibrant emerald eyes caught her attention, and Emelia was of course, attracted. "Hello, I don't suppose you'd join me for a drink would you?"

Good company never hurt.

Had he really been out that long already? Was Lea's first thought as emerald eyes took in the sight of the street lamps simultaneously flickering on around him as if someone had thrown a switch. What was initially intended to be a quick trip down to the shop he usually frequented to stock up on essentials had resulted in him spending the rest of the afternoon engaged in a rather pleasant conversation with the shop owner who, bless his kind heart, had even seen fit to gift him with a few cinnamon rolls that he always thoroughly enjoyed. Something on the house for being a regular and a magical charm of sorts to ensure that he made it safely back to the academy, the fatherly middle-aged man had said with a wink when Lea politely mentioned that he had to get going.

News of the recent murders had reached the academy alright and almost everyone in all of Lea's classes were whispering the one word that immediately came to mind as to what they thought was the cause of these. Majin. Or more accurately, witch eaters. If the reports of the murder victims were anything to go by and were neither distorted nor fabricated the way the mass media tended to be at times, the descriptions would fit perfectly. Almost as if they had been taken out from a textbook.

Unlike what most people might be inclined to think, Lea had his own reasons for keeping to the shadows as he made his way down the street towards the academy with his feline ears voluntarily pressed flat against his own head. The young mononoke did not fear what might be lurking out there in the dark, believing that whatever was meant to happen would occur regardless of how one attempted to avoid or prevent it in the first place. Life was far too short to be worrying over things that were beyond one's control unlike...

The brown-haired boy stopped there and then just as his train of thought was interrupted by a soft mewing sound that seemed to be coming from a nearby alley. He calmly cast his gaze upon his surroundings, the darkness of the alley proving to be not too much of a challenge to his enhanced night vision as he smiled softly to himself once he had located the source. A scrawny calico kitten which was no more than a few months old. Recalling that he had bought himself some milk awhile ago, Lea set the brown paper bag on the ground and retrieved the carton from it, pausing for a brief moment as it finally dawned upon him that he had no receptacle with which to contain the milk for the kitten to drink from. Bummer.

...

He had an inkling of an idea as to what he could do with his limited magical knowledge and ability. Now to put it into motion... Glancing quickly over his shoulders to ensure that noone else on the street was paying attention to him, Lea stretched out both his hands and focused his concentration on the image of a saucer in his mind. There was first a very fine white mist that gathered within his palms, then the sensation of something forming and taking shape. When he was finally done, he couldn't help but stare incredulously and frown at the lop-sided saucer made entirely of ice that was now in his hands. He knew that creation spells were never his forte but this..?

Oh well... he supposed it would have to do...

Kalypso had just finished doing some shopping. She had first went clothe shopping. She wan't sure if she wan gonna do anything for Hallows Eve but she wanted to be prepared just in case she did decide to do anything. She went in search of a outfit/custom to wear. Afterwards she went food shopping, she had to stock up on some items and thought since she was already out in town that she would just go ahead and n** it in the bud. She also went and stopped by the fish market and picked up some salmon to cook for dinner. She was really impressed with herself at her rapidly increasing cooking skills. She thought about just going back to the academy and putting her fish in the freezer for another day and just going to eat in the dining room for the day.

While walking back to the academy she kept thinking about the townspeople. Something was up and she had no idea what it was. They were acting weird, she just couldn't explain it. At first, as always she thought the townspeople were acting weird because of her. And she subconsciously touched her eyepatch. After reassuring herself that it had nothing to do with her she continued on her way. She did however heard the whispers in school about witch-eaters. She shuddred. She wasn't a fan of them and tried not come in contact with them.

Turning she heard a noise coming from a alley. Her first thought was to run as fast as she could but then she heard a mewling noise. She followed the noise to see a little baby kitten and a male mononoke witchling. The first thing that came out of her mouth was "Aww how cute." It was heard to tell who she was directing that to as she was looking at both the witchling and the kitten. She also that the witchling must have tried magic and tried to make a bowl for the cat. Remembering the fish she brought she took it out and set it down for next the bowl of milk for the kitten. She turned her attention to the mononoke. She was fancinated by them, she just wanted pet him. She was about to do just that until she remembered an incident awhile back when she did that to another mononoke and almost got her hand bitten off.

Salem smiled back at Graveyard, but at first, he did not answer her questions. The bar filled ever faster with newer and ever more interesting characters, all of whom he gave a cursory glance. All types seemed to be represented here, from yet another witch-eater, this one dressed in purple, to a lovely young man with an equally lovely man in tow, too many for him to count on his fingers. He did his best to catalog each of them, but paid special attention to the ones who paid attention to Salem himself. Those were the ones he worried about.

He smiled, though, and turned his gaze back on Graveyard.

“It is my pleasure, my absolute pleasure, so it is,” said Salem, nodding solemnly at the mononoke, “For what sort of a- ahm, hmm- a gentleman would I be if I were to deny a lovely like you a seat?” He had paused, just for a moment, a minor twitch, when he noticed that she had been staring at his hand. It had blinked at her. With a fine fury, he forced the thing still with the sheer power of his will, and the sigul became still and static again.

Unperturbed, he continued, “Yes, though. I speak a bit of your language. I am well-versed in a few tongues foreign to these city-folk,” he indicated the packed tavern around him. Large men with a little too much booze in them had begun noticing the rapid influx of irregulars as well, and Salem didn't know if he liked the look to them. They looked nervous.

“Yes... an ugly sort of rumor passing around, so it is. They speak of witch-eaters, snatching up hearts. They call me Salem, Miss Graveyard, and it is another great pleasure to meet you.”

User ImageIt felt weird, like missing a limb: Since meeting Philemon, Orpheus had not wanted to part from him. However, this was a special case. Something was going on, and Orpheus wanted to know what. He was struck by a feeling of unease, and he needed to find out what was going on. His chosen calling in life was a Reaper, and when he was a student, that was all he wanted to be. It was what he believed in most assuredly. Although he still believed in it, now he had met others who made him doubt his path. He took a deep breath, and pushed through the tavern doors. Surely, his bandmate would be here. Orpheus was rewarded, in turn, with the sight of Salem, albeit seemingly surrounded with others. He pushed his way through the strangely crowded tavern, clasped Salem's shoulder firmly from behind, and whispered a hello so quietly that surely only Salem would hear the words. He nodded his greetings to the others who were there, and said, "I'll see you in a bit, I've got to sit down and clear my head."

Orpheus grinned, his eyes glowing softly in the tavern light, and headed off to a decently clean table, taking a coin out of his sleeve and rolling it across his knuckles. That feeling of inescapable strangeness... was it from being separated from Phil, or did it stem from something else?

Consciously smoothing his brow and summoning a lopsided smile, Azra'iel offered a half-bow to the witchling and as he sat across from the pair, swiveled his head to nod at the witch, Rajih.

"I am Azra'iel. It is a pleasure to meet both of you." Hesitating slightly, Azra'iel looked down at the warm mug he cradled in his hands. He did not mind meeting new people, but he feared he might be disrupting a private conversation since they had been speaking so lowly before greeting him. Looking back up, he smiled apologetically. "I hope I am not interrupting too private a discussion. I... greatly appreciate the offer of companionship. It is not the most pleasant night to be spending alone, studying."

Lumena Castle Town: Unnamed Tavern

Oh gods, it had happened. Could the green-eyed woman read minds, to rise from her seat just as Säde thought of her? The girl accepted her cup of cider with a flush, simultaneously trying not to look at the approaching woman and scoffing at her own silliness. The scoff won out as she moved not to Säde, but to the boys sitting to her right. Their conversation was one that the student didn't heed as, fingers gripping her mug, she moved away from the bar. People couldn't read minds. She should have got with her gut from the get-go.

And that was precisely what she was going to do now. The witchling moved closer to the grey-toned boy she had seen before, lifting an eyebrow at the conversation at his table. There was a handsome boy with a sigil on his face that touched his shoulder before moving away - Säde had never seen him before, but that was nothing new. Now that she was closer, the grey boy and his fleeing friend looked stronger and more capable than she'd thought. Perhaps they were witches? Full ones, not little students like herself? Thank goodness she wasn't wearing her uniform today.

"Excuse me." She glanced from the boy to his purple-eyed companion and back. "I couldn't help but catch snatches of your conversation. It sounded like you were speaking in song for a moment there. May I ask what that was?"

Ruria lowered her eyes as she took a sip of the hot pumpkin cider by her, a dainty, proper expression on her face. "I fear if you did that, you would be left with a terrible aftertaste." The girl's many years of etiquette training never left her, even at school. It seemed a motion of importance for her to maintain an airy elegance, even if she was quite possibly socially awkward. Still, she seemed happy to be socializing a little. She only smiled with a hint of mischief at the mention of her own magic. "Well, I can show you one spell, if Azrai'iel doesn't mind. My name is Ruria, by the way."
