Joachim looked at one of the small mice that seemed to be scampering his feet, the little red shirts on them made them almost an extremely easy target to be seen anywhere. Pulling out his flute he wrapped his fingers around it before staring at the now moving rocks that seemed to jump up in down from the flow of water. His brows furrowed as he tried not to think of the rest of his team actually trying to make the attempt to hop across them, in fact he just kept telling himself he was not worth the idea of crossing such a dangerous path to get to.

Errr….you guys…. Aren’t going to cross…right….. I mean………?” However instead of a yell all he could manage to get out was some sort of half hoarse whispered that scratched his throat as he watched them converse. Joachim felt…. well useless at that point considering he didn’t know what he was going to do. Jumping the flying rocks he was sure to fall there was no doubt in his mind considering his luck.

Looking at the mice again he put his flute to his lips and started to play a few notes, the first few came out shaky but improved as he continued.

Taryn listened to the others strategize as she nervously tugged at locks of her own hair. It seemed as if the ...test? puzzle? trap was intended to be taken manually. Given an alternate option, though, there may be no need. Was it right to cheat the system when there was no real system to begin with? Telepotration seemed... dangerous. Colette spoke of various trips and certainly a Knob didn't have complete control of something so powerful... but those rocks...

A slab flew into the air and smashed back down with an enormous splash. She looked between Tset and Johan, and then nodded to Colette.

"I'd be willing to try."

The sound of the flute causes the gray mouse to lift its head. It looks up at Joachim where he is suspended in the air and scampers off behind a rock. Soon after it reemerges a moment later, there's a strange whirring sound and the boil is lowered the now short distance to the ground. The mice line up in front of him, as if awaiting orders. There's still no way for Joachim to get to the other side of the river, but considering the exit is on his side, he should probably concentrate on getting his teammates to him.

Of course, Taryn, Johan, Tsetsiliya and Colette can continue with their plan as well. Forward, ho!

It seems the mice are much more interested in Joachim now. By playing different little ditties on his flute, he has the chance to influence them directly.

hanging gallow:
Please roll a 20-sided die every time you post. If you get a 10, the whirring starts up again and a bridge comes out of the wall behind you and spans across the river to the opposite bank. Please see below for the results of other rolls.

Quote:
1: The white mouse steps on a glowing red... something hidden in a patch of tall grass. Hundreds of tiny rocks fall from the sky, damaging all party members for 1HP.

2-5: The gray mouse does a little dance. Yay.

6-9: The white mouse taps its paws against the ground. You think it might be communicating in morse code.

10: The spotted mouse hops in place. A bridge emerges from the wall behind Joachim and slowly moves across the water. Tsetsiliya, Taryn, Colette and Johan are free to cross!

11-15: The mice perform an extremely abridged version of Hamlet. At least that's what you think they're doing. o.O

16-19: The mice begin gathering the ingredients to make a sandwich. If you roll a number in this range three times, they've gathered enough ingredients to make one sandwich worth 3HP. You can take it with you!

20: The mice scamper around like loons, crossing the river to drop one brightly wrapped candy at the feet of each group member. The label reads +1. You may eat this candy now or hold onto it for later.

Look at that! Whether they were his or not, these mice seemed to be heeding Joachim. Of course, now nobody could be sure what purpose they served, but at least they didn't seem like they were going to attack anybody. Taryn, still attached to Tset and curiously watching Colette looked around nervously. If they were going to do this...

"I think Tset should go first," she said. After all, the poludnica seemed to have a pretty crippling fear of water, and may do better on the other side.

"Ehh.." Colette half shrugged as she thought of how to explain it to Johan. "Kind of? It requires a little, but it's mostly taking what one already knows about shadows and manipulating it a bit more. If that makes sense," she explained awkwardly. Colette had never had to actually tell somehow how it worked. The ability was a skill supposed to be used for avoidance. From being seen, mostly, because those of her family couldn't exactly be hasty and hide in their armor.

Colette would have probably attempted to go in depth and just stumble on her words, but fortunately her suggestion wasn't rejected and the real matter was focused on. Of course, the sound of Joachim's flute was quite hard to ignore as well, and what she saw of the mice was just peculiar. "Well that's interesting, I guess Joachim has a way to get down now." There was just the problem of getting them over there. "JOACHIM! We'll be there soon!"

Taryn's volunteering of Tset caught Colette's attention and she nodded in agreement. That was a very good idea considering the ghoul looked the most unnerved. "Right. Tset, if I can just have your hand?" As Colette asked, she outstretched her hand to receive Tset's. The pitch black oval started to form from the ground up, with wispy, dark tendrils weaving up like smoke. Definitely not intimidating at all, nope.

The scene was beginning to shift - things were moving forward. The flute music drew Tsetsiliya's attention and she glanced over at Joachim. The mice.. were responding to him? That was a comforting sign.

But the biggest obstacle was the water. So far everyone seemed to be of the opinion that Colette should take her across first. While she was all for getting across the water, her cheeks still flushed from embarrassment. She was the second Knob here, shouldn't she be pushing the Snots to go first? She had to swallow her pride however; whatever helped them get across quickly, right?

"S-sure," she replied to Colette, placing her pale hand in the reaper's own. The dark curls of the portal rising around them made her fairly nervous, but no, she wasn't going to hold the group back any longer!

Taryn released Tset finally and stepped back, moving to hug herself. That... didn't look very safe, did it? Well, it was either take the easy way through the portal or brave the flying rocks, and the former still sounded like a better idea. She pushed her hair back behind an ear, although none of it had come loose, and sighed deeply.

Okay, they could do this.

Joachim paused realizing that the floating bubble had lowered him closer to the ground not hat he was out but it was at least comforting that he was now not exactly useless while his teams seemed to be forming a plan. He nodded to Colette as she yelled to him before pressing the flute to his lips again, it was worth a shot but he hoped if he kept playing something else would happen, that was as long as it wasn’t something like him being tossed into the water or smooshed and flattened in the bubble.

This time the tune was a little cheerful almost like a ditty of sorts as the heel of his white boots tapped against the bubble floor.

Before advancing through the portal, Colette gave to Tset one piece of advice. "Don't let go." If Tset were to suddenly find herself smack dab in the middle of the river, that would be quite unfortunate. If she were lucky, she'd just be spat out right where they started. It was often spontaneous.

Once they stepped through, the portal abruptly dissipated and left no trace. Within seconds another was reforming on Joachim's side of the river. Going through the portal was like walking into a pitch black room with no exit, but one could only move forward. Colette wouldn't even know if Tset was still there if it weren't for holding her hand. She gave it a squeeze, not to just reassure Tset but herself as well. The Reaper didn't do this often. Fortunately, the disorientation only lasts a couple of seconds, and the two popped out on Joachim's side just in time to see the ending of the mice's performance.

Colette wondered what he was exactly instructing them to do, or if he had control over them at all.

"I'll go get Taryn and Johan now. Check if Joachim needs anything... I'll hurry," she said to Tset before entering a newly summoned portal and returning to the other side.

"Who's next?" She looked from Taryn to Johan.

Johan listened gravely to Colette's explanation of her ability, and simply nodded his understanding. That was the way of magic, quite honestly. He watched with interest as the shadowy portal formed, resisting the urge to probe it with a rune. Getting across the river, and rescuing... wait a minute, when had Joachim gotten himself down?

Johan had managed to completely miss the boils' escape, but he watched as Joachim played a short melody, resulting in the mice doing something ... did that one just mime stabbing the other one? The Sorcerer was distracted again when Colette and Tsetsiliya appeared on the other side. In one piece, too!

Johan felt his hopes rise when Colette stepped back out onto their bank. Perhaps they could do this! He immediately gestured to Tayrn at Colette's question.

"Ladies first."

Taryn was too nervous about her teammates to notice the mice performing... whatever it was they were doing on the opposite bank. She was simply watching all of the uninhabited patches of ground for another swirling portal, her eyes darting nervously around the lifting rocks left something have gone terribly wrong. As it was, though, the poludnica and reaper raised out of the other portal and Taryn gave a sigh of relief.

Thank Jack.

When Colette returned, though, the ghoul felt a shock of panic. She was next? What was it like? Was it a definite thing, or was there a possibility she'd drop out of the sky and crash-land on the other side? She gave Colette a nervous smile and held out her hand for the reaper to take. This could... potentially be bad.

"...o...okay..."

Joachim’s brows furrowed as he watched the mice effortlessly dance some sort of poor jest, or maybe it was some sort of play that went along with the tune not that he was sure the tune had one. Whatever it was it surely was not by his command to them however he was sure that if he would find the right tune as long as his fingers continued playing tunes. Shaking his head he continued on in his playing completely unaware to Colette and Tset who had instantly appeared next to his bubble.

This time the tune was a slow almost dirge like as each note hung vibrating in a haunting fashion.

Ladies first? Colette looked at Johan while she took Taryn's hand. "How chivalrous," she joked. It was good to know you had a courteous person around. Or maybe he was just too nervous. Either way, he would have his turn.

Like before, a pitch black portal appeared from the ground up and outstretched several dark and wispy tendrils towards the ceiling. "Alright, don't let go." Forget asking if she was even ready. Colette held on to Taryn's hand and advanced through. The portal disappeared, and the same feeling of blinding disorientation occurred for several seconds before the two reached their destination. Colette flexed her hand ever so slightly and felt Taryn's still in her grasp. Good! Another success.

"Here we are," Colette said as she let go of Taryn's hand. She was safe on the other side now. "Everything alright? I just need to go get Johan."

The only reaction Taryn could give was a soft "oh!" as Colette began stepping through the portal. There were no worries about her potentially letting go, as all she could do was cling desperately to the ghoul as strange sensations took over. They were walking in pitch blackness, but totally straight... and yet it seemed like they were going in circles, or nowhere at all. By the end of the few seconds Taryn was nearly trembling, and she ran forward a few steps when they had emerged as if to convince herself they were really out. It took her a moment longer to realize that Colette was talking to her.

"Mmhm," she sheepishly replied, wringing her hands, and then she turned to Joachim. "Are you okay? What happened?" The mice at their feet seemed to be... communicating somehow? the chimera nervously hovered near Tset.

The last note hung in the air like a whispering voice fading away into the wind as the taping of the mouse's foot caught Joachim's attention. Squatting down to the bottom of the bubble he pressed his ear to the side as if he was trying to hear the taps better just as two familiar figures appeared in his line of sight.

"WHAT IN THE JACK NAME!" He yelled as he back collided into the other side of the bubble dropping the flute, before he could utter any other words Colette disappeared again into some sort of portal. Well it was better idea than hoping across a whole lot of rocks like he had thought they were doing.

"Errr.... how did you get here.............. and.. I'm fine for the moment..... I mean I guess... it could be better?" Joachim replied to the two ghouls as he picked himself up trying to brush the frazzle look out of his hair before picking his flute back up.

"I was.... trying to see if I could help by playing but I guess they only respond to certain types of songs...... errr I'm going to try another one this time," he replied rubbing his hands around the flute before pressing it to his lips and playing another short melodic tune.
