Wolframite waved off the offer for change, reaching to the font of his uniform where it buttoned up and undoing a few buttons to pull out a few dollars. He in no way had to explain it was money he stole from someone else, and made sure to keep the few energy orbs tucked into his uniform and out of sight. It seemed that if he was going to have a friendly conversation and find out more about these Knights, he wouldn't give them something to raise a eyebrow at. He selected some apple juice from the machine. It clunked to the bottom, and he leaned in to grab it just as the boy pointed out his age.
He was rather surprised. Most people didn't care about his age. True, some senshi had felt that he was about their age which ultimately didn't help them by narrowing down who they might be in real life, but it wasn't with the same shocked surprise as the knight had in his voice. Rising up with his drink, he thought about this a moment. "I was young when I was recruited." Huh. It felt as if he had been a Negaverser for years. Almost all his life. Really, it had only been over a year, and he forgot he was still a teenager at times. That he was a kid who should be enjoying his youth. He still remembered the day he was corrupted. Back when Charonite ran the show.
"There are other officers who have earned their rank faster than I have." He pointed out, moving past the boy. "Pick. There is still cash in the machine." He left a credit of 2 dollars.
Moving to sit on the bench, he leaned back and twisted the bottle cap off. "Not nearly as young as I've seen. Do you know the senshi recruit children? I have seen them. A small group of them that look as if they are in elementary school. At least our side has standards. We never go that young. You can't make soldiers out of little children. Can you imagine one of them welding a weapon with any sort of power?" He asked, prompting the other boy to imagine a small child with a knife or spear trying to hurt anyone. Then again, how much better was it that the image was fit for teenagers like him. "Could you imagine the death toll if we had kids like that on our side?" He took a sip of his juice a she looked out into the rain. Could he imagine children being tortured? He'd rather not.
"Our goals and purpose are many, but it boils down to the fact we don't want history to repeat itself. The Queen of the Moon, if found and supported by the senshi, will overtake the planet as she had done before. The senshi, despite being from this planet, are actually soldiers for her side and wish to find her. To bring her here, and to take this planet as their own. As such, we are soldiers who stand to prevent this and the takeover of the senshi who come from other planets and yet want to take this planet under their rule." Among many other things. "We just want to keep a firm hold of this planet to the people who are born to it and support Earth should belong to it's people and not the princess of another planet." It was a simple answer and in no way encompassed all that they wished to accomplish. Still, the question hadn't be narrowed down to anything specific.
Now it was his turn to ask a question. "Are you like them? Do you have cats that wake up you one day or did you find out another way?" He slowly twisted the cap to his juice back on, but knew he would probably be drinking more. Jumping around all day tended to make him thirsty and he felt that being in the rain wasn't going to help his poor health.

Valhalla watched curiously as Wolframite pulled out some money, and was able to relax a little now that he knew the General wouldn't be trying to break into the machine. Well, that was good. He didn't think he could stop vandalization when the guy doing the vandalizing could seriously kick his a**. The page was even more surprised when he was offered a drink for himself.
"Oh! Um, thanks," he said, hoping he didn't sound too shocked. It was a generous offer and he thought it would be rude to refuse, so he waited until Wolframite had moved out of the way so he could pick out what he wanted. No soda... he'd had too much caffeine and was trying to cut back to only one cup of coffee a day. Instead he picked a bottle of water and leaned down to collect both it and the change.
"That's how it's been with others too, you know... Rising in rank, I mean," he clarified, before wondering how much detail he should go into. "Uh, I just mean... I don't think everyone who rises faster are better than those lower than them. Luck? Circumstance? Whatever reason, I don't think it should define who someone is." Valhalla paused, making a face at himself as he sat down on the other end of the bench from the General. "That probably didn't make any sense... Well, I guess I just don't like to think rank means everything, all the time." He didn't like it when senshi or knights defined themselves by rank, as if they were better than everyone else. Sure, it might be because they want others to know that they are more experienced, but everyone around them should be able to feel their power level. They shouldn't have to introduce themselves as such.
But that was his opinion, and obviously not everyone thought the same way. He was more experienced than a lot of people who 'outranked' him, but for some reason he was unable to reach the next level. Maybe he really was unworthy...?
"Senshi don't always have a choice," he tried to explain as he opened the bottle, playing with the cap in his hand. "Knights don't always have a choice. I was awakened never even knowing that there were monsters and a magical war taking place in my city. But I know that not everyone wants to be a senshi. And us knights... we don't know why we're here. We don't have some mysterious Moon Queen to look for. Hell, a lot of senshi don't want to look for a Moon Queen. They just want the fighting to stop. And yes, I've seen the children... It scares me because I have a younger sibling about that age... younger cousins in elementary school. If they were thrown into this mess..." he sighed, trailing off and not wanting to think about it. He didn't want anyone getting hurt, especially innocent children.
"Was it the Queen of the Moon who destroyed the other planets and moons?" he asked curiously, wondering what Wolframite knew that he didn't. "I've been to space before. There... wasn't much left. Ruins... Senshi have no where to go to, even if the Negaverse wanted them gone from the planet. Is there any way to stop the fighting without total annihilation? Could coexistence be possible? Because I swear on my life... if a Moon Queen tried taking over the planet, I won't just sit around and let her. AndI know others, senshi and knights, won't either. I don't know what happened in the past, but we're trying to make and protect our future."
Ah, he was talking too much. Valhalla forced himself to take a drink of water, but turned to stare in confusion at Wolframite's question. "Huh? Oh... No... Knights, from what I've heard, wake up on their own. I don't know how or why, but when I woke up, there had been a youma out in the alley behind my apartment building. It had attacked someone and... when the youma turned on me, my compass appeared and... I was Valhalla. Cats, I think, can feel when a senshi's power is about to be born. I know a couple and they would never awaken a child with the intention of putting them in danger. I think it's just... instinct. And being awakened, they have more of a chance to defend themselves than being trapped in camps, helpless..." Obviously he didn't know for sure, but at least thinking that way made it not as horrible. Tomlin had awoken Callisto and had Ganymede power up, but that was because there was no other choice, right?

"Our youmas are only on a basic mission. They don't kill. While they may seem to attack, fighting them only causes more danger. You would be best to leave them be. They are part of the Negaverse and we seem them as comrades. They are good people, and they are only following their orders. They aren't out to deliberately harm like the monsters on television. While they may look scary, don't let that dictate your opinion of them. I have seem some very friendly and kind youma." He pointed out, taking another sip of his juice and wishing it was hot tea or even coffee. On days like this, with the rain pouring, he wished he could curl up in a blanket and go to sleep, just listening to the rain. On days like this, he tried to kid himself that no senshi would be out, but if he was here, and this knight was here, than the others were too. For that reason, he couldn't cuddle warm in the covers back at his apartment.
"All of us have a choice. Even awakened or changed or recruited. We all have a choice. A senshi can choose not to become a senshi even though they know they are one, and they can continue their lives. You can do that as well. So can I. The reason I am here is because there are those senshi who still want to bring about the rule of their Queen. The ones who do not want to bring the Queen back and just want peace should join our side. We have senshi of our own that we take in and treat as comrades. We do not fight a senshi if they don't want to fight. We give them that choice. We wouldn't be fighting if they weren't fighting us, harming our side, our people, civilians even, and trying to take over the planet. There are choices." He leaned back and adjusted the ties on the back of his heat to his eyepatch. It was slipping due to the rain.
"The Moon Princess once tried to take over our planet. Our side opposed her, and she destroyed them and made monsters of the rest. Our own king, Endymion, fell for her and did nothing. We managed to prevent the world from being taken over, but if she comes around again, we have to stand as a force against her. If the other planets are destroyed, it was not that we were invading. We just want our own planet kept safe. Now if the senshi destroyed their own planets and can't go to them, that they need to be here, then they should represent Earth and not their dying planet and join our side. Not a Princess who wants to take over a planet that is not her own." His eyes settled on the knight.
"I am glad you show that you are not with this Princess. You seem more of a knight of Earth than some other planet. I hope that when the time comes to stand against her, if that terrible day should come, that the Princess does show up, that you will fight with us to protect our planet."

The page stared at Wolframite, not sure if he should believe what he was hearing. Youma only seem to attack? He certainly hadn't met any friendly youma... They weren't even real, were they...? They turned into dust when they were killed. Even still, it made Valhalla uncomfortable thinking about killing anything, even if they are monsters set on attacking others. Was Wolframite bluffing then? He couldn't tell... Did the General really believe that youma never meant to hurt anyone, or at least not kill them?
"I'll keep that in mind," he said solemnly, gripping tighter to the water bottle in his hand. He certainly hadn't met a friendly youma, but he might take to Magellan's tactic of observing them.
"We have a choice not to power up, sure," he agreed, knowing very well it was an option. But it was so much more than just that. "But if I never became Valhalla, I would feel like I was missing part of myself. I am Valhalla, and although I know some have tired to keep their normal and powered lives as separate as possible... I couldn't do it. I know I have this strange power and while I can't do much I do want to be able to do something. Defend the innocent, protect the planet..." Even though he was a page of Jupiter, Earth was his home. "Even if we didn't power up, that wouldn't stop the youma from coming after us. Don't they want our energy? Can't they tell the difference between a normal starseed and a powered one? Aren't the starseeds of senshi more powerful than a civilian's? So even if they didn't become a senshi, they'd always be haunted by that knowledge... Maybe they were meant for something greater and that's why they're who they are...?"
He knew he was rambling, but he couldn't bring himself to agree with Wolframite on all counts of what he was saying. He couldn't just let it pass by without a comment being made, an opinion being said and hopefully heard.
"Senshi taken into your ranks lose their memory... don't they?" he asked, although he already knew the answer. Europa had known a senshi named Lyra at one point... but now Lyra was no more. At least not in the way that she had once been. He'd seen the pain it caused his friend, knowing that she would never be remembered by someone she cared about. "I don't want those close to me to forget who I am... By joining the Negaverse... that would mean having to be corrupted, right...? Why can't we defend the planet together, without having to wipe memories? We could. I would. If it meant protecting the planet, I would stand by you, but as myself." Valhalla returned Wolframite's gaze, the sincerity of his words settled into his golden eyes. He didn't stop there, though. He couldn't...
"Maybe you don't fight senshi who don't want to, but others do. I've seen them fight, I've seen them attack. I was taken hostage once and had a sword to my throat, even though I didn't raise a hand to the General responsible," he revealed, not too fond of the experience, but it wasn't going to solidify his opinion of all Negaverse Officers. "A senshi had to save me otherwise..." Well, he was pretty sure he would have been toast. "But if I see a senshi or knight trying to attack one of your own, I will do everything I can to stop them." He didn't want anyone getting hurt. Violence would only lead to more violence.
He was confused about one thing, though... "If the Moon Princess destroyed those who opposed her and the Moon is so powerful... why is it barren and the Earth prosperous?" he wondered out loud, his eyebrows furrowing with confusion. "That makes no sense from a historical stand point. Unless Endymion was a really weak king, no offense..." he added, eyeing Wolframite warily, wanting to speak his mind but trying to be cautious about his opinions being too... against what Wolframite said. It just... didn't make sense to him. "And why would the senshi destroy their own planets? I mean, so many people died..." It was sad to think about, but it was also the past. They couldn't keep holding onto the past.
"No Moon Princess will take over the Earth," he said firmly, straightening up as he stared though the dim light at the General across the bench from him. "I'll protect this planet, but I would prefer with as little violence as possible. This is the modern world. There are other ways to solve problems and disputes without fighting." At least he thought so...

He was picking and choosing what to say, and he sorted through the questions as he sipped his apple juice, watching the rain fall and the world be silent for once. There was little traffic in this area, and he noticed that there weren't people milling about at this hour and weather. It wasn't a bad enough neighborhood to have suspicious people doing business on the corner, and it didn't have any of the favorite restaurants or stores to welcome in bored shoppers and party-goers. It was a nice, quiet, neighbor, and Wolframite enjoyed it. The rain helped down out the noise.
"If senshi joined our side or decided not to fight, then there would be no need for the Negaverse and then no youma. With the senshi fighting, the youma was a necessity, but even if any of use decided not to change into our other selves, they would just take energy. It's not like they are tearing anyone limb from limb. Do you hear those attacks in the news?" He said, glancing up. "Have you seen a youma just devour a person alive? No. They are better trained than that." He pointed out, answering the question for the knight, but planting in the doubt as he went. The youma didn't eat flesh and bones, but they would still kill a senshi if they registered one. A starseed of a senshi was much different than a civilian. That was true. His fingers flexed around the bottle of his juice, imagining the warm, electric power of the starseeds he had managed to grip, to touch, and to brush. Diamonds out of a thief's reach.
"As for your worry, you can still fight for Earth, but you should know that the energy from Earth and that of the senshi are different. To have our energy is to have our protection. It's why the senshi that come join us must be fully initated so that we can protect them just as we protect any other member of our party. If they didn't have that and were lost in a big battle, it would be hard to pinpoint them or find them. It's all for their safety as a team to not mistake them as the enemy." He leaned back, wiping his wet bangs from his brow. "And what good would it be if they remembered those from their group and they knew them? It would bother them. Hurt you as you fought them. Of course we all offer the chance for the senshi to come to our side, but it puts a senshi in danger if they think of the past and then get stabbed or burned of electrocuted in that moment of hesitation. That isn't to mean it's intentional. Side effects." He waved it off. "They are still treated nicely and make new memories. It doesn't change the person they are. I know a few senshi who have great personalities. "Not that he really KNEW them. He tended to stick clear of senshi. The only one that came close was Zink's relative, Ammonite.
"It's a cycle. We wouldn't need to fight if the senshi simply joined our side. Instead of saying they are part of Earth and then fighting us, they could protect it and join the Negaverse. Until they all do that, we HAVE to protect our planet. We were not gifted with magic after all, but as good citizens and soldiers of Earth, we must rise up and defense our home."
He looked up at the knight. "Would you fight with us then?"

Valhalla frowned sadly to himself as Wolframite expressed his opinions and thoughts, not sure what to think of it all. While he hadn't seen a youma devour a person, he knew that they wouldn't hesitate to attack. At least in his experience. But that wasn't going to be something he'd argue about. Instead he kept his mouth shut and his head lowered, still knowing full well that if Wolframite wanted to kill him, it would take very little effort.
"We don't need to fight at all, General," he said quietly, although loud enough over the rain to be heard. He sounded almost as if he were pleading with the young man, although he knew quite well that it would take more than just asking nicely. To stop a war that seemed so deeply engrained into people's hearts on both sides... it would be very difficult and complicated.
Earth was their home, too. Whether or not the Negaverse had somehow come to believe that they'd inherited it (or maybe they did), it shouldn't matter. History would only repeat if it isn't learned. People living today weren't who they were in the past, nor should they be punished for past events. It was completely out of their control, but they do have the power to change things for the better, now.
If only they could find a way to come to some kind of compromise.
"I would fight to protect Earth with my life," Valhalla replied with confidence and little hesitation, his eyes meeting Wolframite's. "I would do anything to save this planet, even if that means teaming up with the Negaverse."
He wasn't sure how other knights or senshi felt about that, or even if they would heavily disagree with him, but he wasn't going to allow his home to be destroyed. Not if he could help it, at least.

Wolframite looked at the squire, hair dripping. "You're a good person." He stated, as if a final assessment was finally made during the grading process of their first meeting. Moving over, the general went to toss his bottle in the recycling bin near the other boy, and then looked back at him. "When the time comes, I don't think I'd mind having you on our side. You'd be a welcomed asset, and I think you'd make the right choice." Those who fought for her, in the end, would see the Negaverse was in the right, and if Valhalla was as true to his words as he seemed, then he could see the squire beside him fighting. Sure, he had no idea what a compass would do even then, but all the same, he would be happy to see him there rather than tricked into siding with the opposition.
"Let's hope that day, when our planet is in such a emergency, never comes." Not that it was already being threatened almost all the time by the senshi walking upon it.
With that, he stepped to the dry edge that awning provided before looking back. "Next time, do jump up higher. Hate to see someone like you get lost in a park. Your fit for a noble death, not an ironically funny one." To which he glanced at the compass, then looked up at the boy. "t was ....nice meeting you." He stepped into the rain, and started to walk off. "Watch out for that lightening." He called out, words almost washed out in the rain, and then with a jump, leapt back into the woods.
