Riley breathed a sigh of relief. So there was something she could do to prevent this tragedy - though it didn't seem like she was set upon doing it. In fact..
So you're choosing.. reaper? Riley tried not to look disappointed. She really did.

"Ah..w-well I'm..." Astra fidgeted on the couch, not expecting someone to have asked her so soon if she had chosen. "I've got a week to choose, so I..haven't settled on a decision yet. It's a lot to take in so I haven't really thought about it yet. Plus..with all the rumors about a possible field trip..."
She shuddered, unwelcome thoughts creeping into her head from their previous excursion. "The last one...I can't describe it Riley. I was just so useless the entire time, and even though I didn't do anything, I somehow made it out alive...while..."
No, she wasn't going to say it. Just thinking about it brought tears to her eyes. "I just hope...that this time I can do something for everyone, and not be a burden."

Riley's eyes narrowed at the mention of the trip. She reached her hand around the ghoul, and pulled her into a one armed embrace.
Rest assured, Astra. It is not your species that will determine whether you are helpful when we come to a fight. It is who you are, inside. And it is your preparation. She looked down at the ghoul with a penetrating gaze. You must train. You must be ready for whatever gets thrown at you. And above all, you must be confident in your ability. This requires you to make the right choice for yourself.
She tried to keep her bias out of her words. So, then. Are you leaning towards one, or the other?

Rileys words were reassuring to say the least, and the intensity of her words left Astra with a small flame of determination in her. She wanted to be able to do something, and if training would help her be able to, then she would do it.
...Although she wasn't exactly sure what kind of training she could do that would help, she hoped that the answer would come to her soon or later.
"Okay" Astra matched Rileys gaze with a determined look of her own (well she hoped it was determined and not...cutesy like) "I'll figure it out, and then I'll train as hard as I can!"
The mindflyers next question had the fairy thinking for a little while. What kind of perference did she really have? "Well...I guess I'm slightly curious about having some demonic powers, like contracts..." Being able to make a contract with someone might come in handy. Plus, it sounded really cool.

Ah, contracts. Riley sighed, backing away to lounge on the couch. They're not all what they're cracked up to be, sadly. Lately, I have been preferring the method of simply convincing others to be helpful. It has worked in my favor. But, yes, contracts are a nice benefit to being a demon. Though honestly.. it is in the loss of your culture, the faerie folk, that I feel the true sadness lies. Your parents were fae, were they not?

The question about her parents was a rather interesting question, one that Astra hadn't put much thought into. " Well, my mum is a fae...but my dad is a reaper." She replied, trying to ignore how her antenna weren't moving as they usually did when she was thinking. "He's a druid, cause he likes to use a lot of plants and herbs in his potions."
She shifted uncomfortably in her seat. "I've...talked a little with them about this, and they're assured me that whatever I choose, they'll be happy with. And I wont be exiled from the forest or anything like that. I can still live there and talk to everyone, including the other fae."

Ahhh. That does make sense. What an unusual circumstance..
Riley was sorely tempted to convince Astra to turn to the demon side, but it wasn't fair.. instead, she reached out and brushed the ghoul's hair with a gentle stroke. Rest assured, I will also support you in your choice. And no matter which you choose, we'll make sure you get some extra time at the Fitness Club, training so that you're fit and ready for the next obstacle life throws at you.

"Really?" Astra felt herself tear up again and tried desperately to wipe away the tears so Riley wouldn't see her looking so wussy, but it looked like she was losing the battle ."T...thank you..." Unable to help herself, she hoped closer to the other ghoul to give her a nice big (aka, small) hug. Huggies for all!
I'll train harder then everyone, including Jericho!" She then declared. "And I'll get stronger then him too, then no one would dare stop me, not even those scary hooded guys from the island!"
Now, all she had to do was to keep this spirit up...

Riley collected the ghoul into her arms, careful not to touch the wings as she wrapped her arms around Astra. There, there. I know you will. I won't rest until I'm sure you're ready.

The thought of Riley personally training her filled her with a sense of hope, as well as a sense of trepidation. She knew the mindflayer would not take it easy on her, nor did she want her to do so. Astra didn't want to let down her friend, especially if she was going to take time out of her busy schedule before the trip to help her.
But even so, she felt that deep down inside, she was still afraid that she might not be able to complete Rileys training. She was sure that it would involve things that would not only push her to the limit, but would test her physically and mentally as well. Not to mention that there would be weights involved. Lots of weights, and lifting, and lots of heavy lifting weights.
It's going to be tough...but I shouldn't dwell on this.. Astra thought to herself, opting to instead let herself enjoy being hugged and to take comfort from it. Plus, the couch was nice and comfy too. It was a wonder that Riley's wings didn't leave holes in the fabric...
Oh yeah! Speaking of wings...
"H...hey, Riley...." She spoke up again, her gaze traveling to the sharp crystals behind her. "Umm...how did you..." She trailed off, not sure how to phrase her question.

How did I what? Riley pulled away, following Astra's gaze to the wings behind her back. The realization of what she was asking made Riley's wings droop, as well as the rest of her.
Ah. That. Her voice sounded very disappointed that the topic had veered to her one unsatisfactory feature. Well, you see, my kind use these crystals often. But sometimes they get out of hand. A life of their own, if you will. Mine.. well, mine decided to do this.
Her cheek quirked upward to one side as she looked at the ghoul, a tinge of amusement in her eyes. Maybe deep down, they knew I wanted to be more like my friend.

Thats odd Astra mused, noticing how disappointed Riley sounded when the topic shifted. Why does she sound so sad?
She wasn't familiar with the kind of crystals that formed her wings, but they made for a spectacular sight, the structure reflecting the light from the candles in the room. It was a wonder how they were able to form into such a thing in the first place.
"You wanted to be more like your friend?" Does she mean Jericho? It would make sense since he was a close friend of hers. She was pretty sure it wasn't herself, even if they did look a little like fairy wings.
Pushing those thoughts aside, the fairy ghoul frowned, still thinking about why Riley didn't seem so happy about them. Either she didn't like them because they didn't look good...or...
"Oh..." She said out loud without thinking.
She can't fly with them...
"Er, I think they look really pretty!" Astra quickly said. "Really really pretty! They look a ton more prettier then mine" She wasn't going to ask if she could or couldn't fly, because by the looks of things it was a touchy subject, and she was far from wanting to upset her friend.

The compliment of 'pretty' didn't really suit Riley, in any respect. It was clear by the lack of any reaction on her face, that she wasn't fond of it. Your wings are a part of you. My wings are an aberration of me. She sighed, letting them fall down far enough that her body hid most of them behind her.
But let us discuss something else. This topic is morbid and I would much rather forget they even exist.

"O-of course!" Astra agreed, not wanting to offend her friend any more then she already had. Silently though, she wished they could talk more about them. If she truly didn't like them because they didn't work, then she would of loved nothing more then to help the mindflayer figure out how to make them work. It would of been amazing to be able to help Riley like she had helped her.
"So whats your family like?" She decided to ask instead.

Astra might have had better luck keeping on the topic of the wings. Family was one of Riley's least favorite subjects. She tried to remain neutral, but in the end her quiet voice gave her away.
My father is very strict. She murmured. But he is all I have. She rubbed her arm with one hand, and shrugged. It is enough that I have people here I consider family. Malodore and Jericho, they are my true family now.
The words sounded blasphemous, and sacrilegious. Riley's face lifted in lieu of a smile. And yours?
