"Cooking?" Malodore looked up with... was that dread in its eyes?! Oh yes. Yes it was. "I, ah, think I will buy them. Yes. For now. And si, for Scarentine's... I was hoping she was back, and that she would be, ah. Amenable to a reconciliation..."

"Oh right. Fire." He kept on forgetting about that. He guessed that was why it was a good thing most undead didn't eat and what they did eat didn't need much preparation or heating. Maybe a lot of them owned microwaves?
Not important now, Calder looked at his list and handed it to Malodore to give him a full picture of what he could consider for their date. Of course he would help it with every step aside from the actual date, but there were decisions left for it to make. "I think we have all we need. Now we just need to decide on the final details, but those are left to you. Once that is done, we can set this up."

"It is like conducting an experiement, truly - isolating environmental factors, limiting variables... though there is quite a bit of bias." Malodore sounded amused. "Va bene. I will learn from this, and use it as a pattern for future interactions, modifying the variables to suit. Let us decide, and then... the set up begins."
Funny how it was more enthusiastic once it translated things into Science.

"Yeah. Just...don't always stick to the same formula. Yu can change things but if the pattern is the same all the time, it gets old too. We'll try different things if you ever need some suggestions. Just..do all the things you always wanted to do, and share. Have fun with company. If you ever wanted to do something and think she might like it, then invite her along. You can make anything a date really if you work it the right way." He smiled and then scooted his chest over to the undead.
"So what have you decided or do you want to wait till tomorrow to think things over?"

"Of course. Repeating the same experiment multiple times... twice, three times is good fact-checking. Too many more is folly," Malodore said, primly.
It then tilted its head to one side as it thought. "I think... your ideas are good, yes. But there is one thing. Very important." It leaned forward, all seriousness. "Can we obtain some small game? Squirrels, perhaps? Where does one find such things? Other than the woods, of course. Though if we are going to the woods... perhaps we could use a particularly squirrel-rich area?"

"Game?" Calder reered back, looking Malodore once over in surprise. "You want to hunt?" He didn't even know WHY the boil would ask. It just didn't seem something Malodore would want to do. He wasn't exactly a predator of any sort. It was just strange.
Still, it was a special request, and Calder let the surprise subside enough to consider it seriously. "Um...okay. Yeah. We can catch something. The woods would be the best place." He placed a hand to his chin, looking around his room. "I'm only okay with hunting on land. Rabbits and squirrels are a lot tricker than fish, snakes, and turtles. All those trees and burrows, but.." His hand traveled to slide around his neck and grip the back of it, thinking it over. "I haven't hunted in a while. I could use some practice." He looked over at Malodore. "So just a squirrel. A ...dead one?" Catching a live squirrel as opposed to a dead one made things a lot more tricky. Sure, Calder was a predator despite his appearance, but killing something and catching something without harming it enough to cause it death were two different things.
"...and why do you need small game?"

"Alive. Fresh brains." Malodore's eyes glinted oddly behind the lenses. "I suppose, logistically, it would be simpler to choose a location already rich in squirrel-kind."
The rest of what Calder said trickled through at that point. "You... hunt?" Its head tilted yet again. It was going to get a crick in its neck if this kept up.

Calder rubbed his neck a bit more. "A little. Usually we just eat plants and things from the water back home, but every once in a while, a good red-meat stew is good. Sort of like swamp and turf. We don't eat it too often, but Mum says it's good to know how to hunt both kinds in case we're stuck on land a bit longer between travelin. Sorta a necessity, and sometimes the plants ain't good enough to live off of in some areas." He looked back at the undead. "Got to get nutrients somehow." That was the breaks with being an omnivore. Despite being able to graze, he was still a large meat eater in the end.
"it involves a lot of fancy foot work to get though. Can't climb either." He looked back at the boil. "Oh yeah. I guess being undead, you never had to trap or chase down anything." He wondered if....Nah. It would probably be a bit too dangerous to do that. Still, the obvious curiosity and the request showed interest on the undead's behalf.
"Are you....interested in huntin?"

"For myself? Ah, no." Malodore shook its head. "Plague doctors have their mettle in their minds, not their bodies, and we do not suffer from the cravings many undead varieties do. But Riley..."
Its voice trailed off, but there was a tone of vague, weird longing there. It was kind of creepy, actually.

Now it was Calder's turn to tilt his head, and he was more confused and a little worried for Malodore. For someone who placed importance on the mind, he wondered if he had a bit of that mad scientist trait in him that was rather common in the field.
So he guessed the squirrel was his form of a box of chocolates. Weird, but he guess...it was sweet?
"I can go grab one if you want. Just one?" He didn't know Riley's sort of appetite after all.

"Ah... I'm not sure, actually. But one at least, for certain." Malodore nodded decisively. "Si. Grazie," it added, ducking its head. "You would be an excellent social scientist, I think. Have you ever considered the field?"

Calder laughed, shaking his head at the suggestion. "I'm not that smart. I only know a little tea-smithing and that's only because of me mum." Oh great, he was getting nervous here. "Basic herbalism and that's pretty much it. I couldn't do any of the stuff you do, or the gears and metal stuff that Barth and Christof does." It was a very sad though how out of place he seemed. One that he didn't like to think about.

"Ah, you are acquainted with the use of plants? I would be most interested in learning such things." Malodore perked up immediately - dates were one thing, but this was Medicine and Science and therefore maybe kind of better than a mundane date, don't tell Riley. "I cannot wield metal either, other than what was needed for basic hygenic maintenance." It tried to flap one wing forward, but the fine muscle control just wasn't there yet - what happened, instead, was one wing going awkwardly up and out, while the other flared to one side.

"Well yeah. Every kelpies knows what is safe to eat and what isn't, and when you go along, what settled your stomach or get minerals you need. My mom knows more than that. Sorta needed when you live in a clan. We don't really visit outside our clan for medical help." He had heard of doctors outside in the area, but they never visited them. There were times when he heard some kelpies turn violently sick and walk out into the woods alone because no one else could help them despite all attempts. It was a matter of pride at that point. No one really talked about it though.
"I could show you a little of what I know, but I don't know the technical names for the plants. Just in my own tongue."

"I would be delighted to know, even so - a true doctor must know all that they can, to best care for the many patients that may be under their auspices." Malodore opened its beak in a smile. It knew some of what it was getting itself into with that statement; Monster ward duty, back in the Casa, was considered advanced study simply because of the sheer variety possible for Monsterkind. There was a reason why most young plague doctors started their studies in the Reaper wards...
