"Wait, you do robotics ?" A pause. Actually, given that rant... "...Programmer ?"

Innnteresting. Joshua had never been too good with code. Just didn't have the hang of it nor the patience to learn - he prefered getting down and dirty with the parts. Programming was just too... abstract for him. Code was nothing he could hold and physically thinker with, and that was a turn off for him.

"You have no idea how many of the clueless brats ruined at perfectly good robot at my school." He grumped. He could use working with someone competent for a change...

"Um. I did a summer program, when I was thirteen or something." Which was a while ago, actually, and wasn't exactly the sam as 'doing robotics' -- but he said it with an easy flippant edge, like he was thoroughly confident that it was no big deal. Veer knew computers. Surely a weekend locked up with a book would be enough to figure out the rest.

"It wasn't terrible. We like. Had to build robots to do these certain tasks...but some of the other kids were really, really annoying, I remember that, all simpering and ******** dying to prove how smart they were." Veer, naturally, had been the same. But he didn't remember that piece of the puzzle.

"Oh, I did something like that, too, was pretty fun." He was knowledgeable of the idea, really. "Back up in Vancouver, through. The others brat weren't any smarter, through."

One had overloaded his robot with some ******** up code. Infinite loops did that, and Joshua had been livid. That had cost them first place, he had been certain of it back then, and he was certain of it now.

And yes, years later he was still upset about it.

"Yeah, I don't know. It probably would have been cooler if I'd been older, not some dumb s**t kid surrounded by dumber shitter kids." Crude, maybe, but it was a pretty good assessment of the program. Everyone strutting around and incredibly proud of their little three-minute robot program or whatever, certain that they were the most brilliant thing ever and heading toward amazing careers.

Maybe some of them had pulled it off. Maybe Veer could have, if not for his little detour into juvie and lack of computer access for the better part of a year. Oh well.

"Probably be easier now that I know what I'm doing."

"Probably would." Well, yeah - if he'd known then what he knew now, he'd have aced the damn contest.

He would also have punched the ******** who wrecked his robot in-between the eyes rather than stare slack jawed, but that was another story completely.

He was staring down another strange construct, as if trying to imprint the image of it in his mind. It wasn't working too well - this was complicated beyond his knowledge. "Anything else worth sight-seeing 'round these parts ?"

"...uh." Around here where? In space? Veer swiped hands through his hair, lifting it absently away from his head. It stood up straight from his scalp for about ten seconds, the perfect picture of the mohawk he wanted. Then the weight of it tugged it back down toward his eyes, sagging slowly...

"Stars? You like stars? We got lots of them." He gestured upward. To the ceiling. But it still made his point. Beyond, there was the best view of the stars any of them had ever seen, completely unintelligible, everything in the wrong place. To an astronomer, it was probably fascinating. To Veer, boring as hell.

"Eh..." He had to admit there was a certain sense of wonder to watching the stars from here - a sight that was impossible on Earth. He wouldn't deny that some times, he spend more time sitting inside the large windowframes staring at the outside world than actually fixing them.

But really, this wasn't really what he'd meant. Maybe he'd do a quick lookaround before catching a 'ride' back 'home', so to speak.

"Try not to break anything, won't you ?" He said. "I still got some fixing to do back at Leo's, so..." He excused himself with a wave. "See ya around ?"

"Where the ******** am I going to go, man? Fly up into space?" He flapped his arms meaningfully, and as Joshua headed toward the door, he'd hear the distinctive tinkle of broken glass. So much for not breaking anything. Veer stared down at the mess and, not long after, he'd follow in the younger man's footsteps. Just at a faster pace.

He didn't want to know what experiment he'd just messed up.
