Deskri noticed that the red words were saying something special, like some sort of twisted nursery rhyme. Some words were hard to read as they were covered up with black, but this is what he got overall.
"Run run as fast as you can You can't get away from the (unknown) man
When he (unknown) you are as good as (unknown) The (unknown) hiding under your bed
No matter how (unknown) you used to be You'll end up a (unknown) like me"
The child leading them stopped and turned around, her blank eyes staring. Her shadow hopped back to where it was supposed to be, but Deskri could tell that she did not like what was going on. The child pointed at the door.
"Your test is in there..." she said hollowly, her unblinking eyes set dead onto Deskri.

That was unnerving. Really unnerving. Deskri glanced around the area just to be sure that no one else was lurking, he definitely didn't want to get jumped on this stupid mission Avon had sent him to do. Ugh. Stupid Avon. He was definitely going to rip that guy a new one when he got back to the academy.
Without another word he stepped closer to the area his "test" was supposed to be in... what kind of test, anyway? He really did not want to have to do something overly complicated or exhausting... He reached out to open the door into the room, perhaps being a bit too cautious.

The room was at first pitch black, and even with his heightened dark vision Deskri had a hard time seeing much of anything. It was a black boxy room with nothing in it. He didn't even notice that the place had a light fixture on the ceiling even with him staring straight at it.
Well, until the light came on. Good thing he had diverted his attention elsewhere before it did, or was the light WAITING for him to look away? He couldn't really tell.
The room was white, and there was a chair in the middle.
"Sit down please" came a voice.
((please roll a d10 with your responce please))

Ugh! Deskri winced, instinctively reaching up to rub at one eye... even if he wasn't looking right at it, the sudden change from pitch black to bright white was enough to cause him some discomfort. Well, as much as he could feel, anyway.
He stepped into the room slowly, looking around through nearly shut eyes. He made his way over to the chair, and went to sit down as he was told to do... all of this obeying strange people was getting on his nerves.

This was bad. This was all bad and he could feel it. He stopped himself immediately from sitting down on the chair because he could see it now.
It was all a lie. This room was an illusion. The chair was a chair, sort of. Looked more like an electric chair though, brain dome, restraints, everything. The walls were gray, of what he could tell, with dried blood, or perhaps rust, all over them. He could smell iron, it permeated the air. And in front of him was a window, and he could see people behind it.
There were three of them, two of them being more blank emotionally void drones of children, standing on either side of the seated third.
This one seemed a bit older, but still was obviously a child, an early teen if you stretched it. His skin was pale. It was easily seen that he hadn't been in sunlight for quite some time. His hair was a dull brown, and it looked like someone tried to cut it with a meat cleaver or something like that. There were bags under his eyes, and a very frightening gleam in his eyes. He grinned a grin that sent shivers down Deskri's spine.
"Good job" he commented, though his voice was muffled by the window. "You passed your test." He chuckled and stood, clapping his hands slowly. It was then Deskri saw it. The ring he had been searching for on this little snots hand. He could feel it's power from where he stood.
"You'll be shown to your new room, and your ceremony shall begin. Then I will integrate you into our little family"

Of course this place was rigged with illusions meant to get him killed... of COURSE Avon would have neglected to tell him that maybe this wild adventure would leave Sonnet and their two kids without him because maybe, just maybe, he'd die on this quest.
He couldn't resist a bit of a hostile glare at the preteen, but did resist bearing his teeth in anger. He was half tempted just to attack the little s**t here and now, kill him and get it over with, but if they had managed to fool him once with illusions, the chances were that they had a lot more than just child drones hidden somewhere in this place.
"What ceremony?"

"Why, your inauguration ceremony, of course!" he said with a laugh as he snapped his fingers. The room went back to the white room he had seen before, except the window was still there.
"It's mainly pomp and circumstance. Congratulations, getting information you'll need, getting your uniform, me officially welcoming you. That sort of thing."
A door opened, and the child that had led him to this room walked in.
"Little Suzy here will show you to your room. See you sooooooon~" And before anything else could be asked, the window too vanished.
Suzy looked at Deskri. "This way please..." And walked out of the room, pausing to wait for Deskri to follow.
Her shadow looked like it was face palming, shaking her head.
"Nice going genius..." she said

Deskri resisted rolling his eyes, what an obnoxious little brat. He rubbed at his head and followed behind "Suzy." He still thought the zombie kids were unnerving... but that shadow was irritating, too.
"Shut up I can handle myself." He whispered back in irritation.

"HA!" she cackled. "If you'dve listened to me instead of reading that demented rhyme we could have been closer to taking out King JackAss..." she snarled.
"You should have thrown the test. The chair in there doesn't work. He just puts it in to scare the s**t out of people. His weaker guards are in the detainment room, which is where you WOULD have gone had you failed. But no. Make it harder for yourself. See if I care if your body gets turned into a little zombie like mine did..." she said, pointing to Suzy. "I'm all that's left of who I used to be, stuck in this damn shadow while Jerkass controls my body like it's some ******** toy..."

Well s**t. This was going all the wrong ways, all too fast. "You could have told me the chair didn't work, dumbass. Thanks for the warning." He hissed, rolling his eyes a little. "Now what. You gonna give me advice now or just b***h about how I couldn't tell a ******** electric chair didn't work and ended up accidentally passing some bullshit test?"

"I need you to be paying attention to me for you to hear me once you know of my existence, and if I just jumped on that damn wall you were reading she would have noticed for sure..." she quickly snapped back. "You may be good with shadows but I have different rules..."
She shifted a bit, taking a look at the girl as they continued to move.
"Look. I'm sorry. I keep trying to get people to help me and it keeps going wrong because he's just so goddamn crazy it's hard to predict. The ceremony is when he'll ******** you up like he did me..." She paused a moment, and then seemed to perk up again.
"Hey wait, can you move your shadow, sorta how I move? How far can you go? You might be able to turn the tables while you wait in the room they give you..."

"That's stupid." Wow... harsh.
Deskri rubbed at his head, messing up his hair unintentionally as they walked. "I can move it far enough. The thing basically has a life of its own now, but it does whatever I want it to."
Little white eyes blinked in Deskri's shadow, and a large toothy grin formed, both for all of two seconds, but it was still there. "Why?"
