Dreaming watched patiently as her fish was packed up into a convenient package. “I will. And thank you.” She gave a grateful nod, picking up her goods up and turning away. The sight of Red-Like-Fire stopped her and she watched him uncertainly. Her reclusive nature meant she rarely came across those she had chosen to engage with in intimate matters, and she was not quite equipped to deal with it.
She felt a rush of appreciation for the kind buck as he simply turned away silently. Some might have considered the gesture was of a slighted male, but she knew better. If he cared to look her way again, he would see the slow dip of her head and a warm glint in her eyes, before she took off; disappearing quickly from view.

Rise had his forever-patient cheer on his face, mentally ticking down their requests. "The fruits are as sweet as the Swampmother made them," he answered chipperly, "but dried, and last much longer. Here," and offered a roughly torn piece of mango to Sorrel. "Try before you buy! As for fish, we've got some from the swamp, some from the coast. As you can imagine, it's harder to get fish in from the coast, so they're more expensive. Let me know which you would like." He thoughtfully regarded their mother, feeling a little bad about her weariness. Perhaps he'd offer her a sample too.
And another customer! A buck of rich, reddish hue, looking a little lost. Weep was busy now, maybe it was time for Fade to work her...magic. "Fade..." he called slowly, over his shoulder - sure enough, she came bounding up. "That one, please."

" Hky bosh!" She exclaimed. " Hye wssh lu'kin ath th' doe hoo jssh lefh, d'dyu shee," she informed, proceeding to spit out the fish into its pile. " I'll go talk to him!" That probably wasn't really what Rise was looking for, but at least she was earnest. Fade trotted straight up to the buck and beamed, then bleated an enthusiastic " Hi!"

A golden yellow doe approached him, sent by someone who looked like he was in charge.
"Hello, I'm a bit of a food connoisseur, and I had heard about this place after the Games. I heard you had all sorts of things, if you wouldn't mind, I'd like to see all you have.
I should probably also mention that I don't have much to pay you with except for recipes that I have come up with, would you take recipes in return?"
Red could already smell the smells that seeing Only Dreaming had distracted him from. Just from the smell, he could tell that he wanted a lot of things from this place. He really, really hoped they would take his recipes.

"Oh yeah yeah yeah we've got lots of things," Fade said, dismissive but practiced, "Fruits and fish and foul and meat from little animals, just watch your pets if you have any but anyway they're going to be here all day and all night, that's what salting does," a little scamper to be uncomfortably close. "So since they're there all day anyway..." she eyed him up purposefully. "...we can take our time with that! You look like you're a doe connoisseur too, huh??" She lowered her voice to a very loud whisper. "Like that doe you were looking at just now? Huh???"

Red had never felt so invaded, but he knew some kimeti couldn't help their wagging tongues. He was irritated with her, but made sure his words didn't show it.
"She is an old acquaintance, clearly one that has forgotten me." He hoped she would be satisfied with that and leave it alone. If she wouldn't, well, he wouldn't give her any more and he would find a different kimeti to help him if he had to. "Even if the food would be here all day, I would hope not to be. Would you be able to answer my question about trading recipes? I have a few other questions as well, though those could probably wait until later."

As it was but a simple business negotiation, there was no need to bring Look-See, the ultimate bait. And as such, she and Crocus were tending to their various flora and fauna; thanks to them, Doom and Gloom had more flexibility in bartering. Doom also made sure the makeshift satchel of dried lilacs (great for tea) contained only said flower. After all, these services would be required again in the future. She was overjoyed. Finally.
Gloom was a ways ahead, purposefully so. He knew enough about Doom's specifically carefree storytelling skills and her frustratingly bright but horrific communication prone personality to place himself as fodder. Up and round they went, safety in numbers. Kimeti, ahead. Target sighted. He led the procession, waiting to disarm the proprietors of Rise and Co. with a smile.
((M&J, please wait for Persimmon (vags) or other of Thoushalt x Look-See's children to post before replying. Each kimeti's bringing own goodies. YAY TO GLUTTONY))

Persimmon sauntered along after her adoptive aunt and uncle, pride in her step. Her family was, after all, the most beautiful, intelligent, and clever of all kimeti -- none more so in Simper's eyes than the two she was following right now. They had taught the pink-and-purple doe much growing up that her mother had not, and she rather idolized them. Especially Doom. The doe was everything Persimmon wanted to be and more. She trotted up next to her "aunt" in the little procession the family made. "How did you hear about this place, Auntie Doom?"

Clematis didn't spend much time with his family. He didn't spend much time with anyone, though. So it didn't make him a bad family member. Besides, he was going with them now. He had heard about this place they were going to, well, someone had just mentioned that there was a group of kimeti that made delicious food to eat. He had no idea it was a store.
He had thought about checking it out, but decided that he didn't really want to go up to other kimeti and ask him to make him food. He thought it wasn't like what he did, that it wasn't a business, just some good kimeti cooks. But when Persimmon had told him that it was a store, he was very eager to go. All the best things would be there, too. The sweet meats he loved, and his family. He had a special place in his heart for his family. Some people said some weird stuff about them, but he didn't see any of it. He had an amazing family. Especially his sister, Simper, had the biggest place in his heart. Her colors, the bright pinks and dark purples, were just so amazing for him to arrange things for.
Her question to Doom shook him out of his reverie. He trotted closer himself, wanting to hear the answer. Apparently this place was popular, and he'd wondered how word was getting around.

Phlox was ... Phlox. He drifted in the wake of Auntie Doom, Uncle Gloom, and his siblings. Commenting or questioning was impossible; once the word had gone out, he'd fuzzily collected what he could and wrapped it up in a big old leaf. And what he'd managed was.... berries. Mulberries, blueberries, a couple of things that looked kind of like cranberries but might have been rose hips, and whatever else had been on hand and, well, edible. There were a few good seed pods in there too, he thought, but it was entirely possible he'd eaten all of those already. They were just... really, really good, those seed pods. Maybe he'd go back and get more, later. There were some pretty flowers there, too, but Phlox shied away from that thought and tighter to his Auntie Doom so he could hear her answer.

She preferred Supreme Overlord but they were of her cute family so she let the small things slide. Persimmon was the curious one. Clematis was private and Phlox, well, he was Phlox. As she navigated through memory's path, her smile grew larger. Meeting the store mascot was pleasureable for many of her senses. He had the most adorable symmetrically dotted legs. They would make for nice decorations or those random gifts other kimeti were so fond of giving. It was too easy to slide into those type of thoughts, but the desire for more salted duck always won out. It's good to experience the bittersweet.
"The Games," she started "attracted kin from all over in all shapes, sizes and capacity. There was that new kin, a stranger, who won the boulder contest. The highlight of the Games was seeing his impressively stocky build, curved horns and natural armor." She paused, indulging in mental exercises of hypothetical situations. Kiokote ran too damn much, and those prancing achas had easily snappable stalk legs. But the stranger.... Thinking about him made her feel young again. Another adventure for another day. She was finished in a few brief seconds. "But what made my season was seeing a faded, dusty blue, red and purple buck giving out samples of salted duck. He said there were more, and not just of duck! He mentioned other animals, dried fruit, pickled something else. If anything, this will be a good for all you young ones to learn how to interact with other to get what you want without strongarming them. Communication skills are very important. Next time, we will all go to the Games. It's very educational."
They didn't need to know the real reason why she went. After exhausting bouts of physical exertion all in the name of competitive fun, adrenaline gave way to fatigue. It was a solo affair for her. A vacation. And that running event? Why, to warm up the body of course. She bathed in that beautifully red fluid all night.
Gloom, still smiling, did not sigh, but his body language drooped momentarily. Doom was getting into one of her excited moods again. It was oddly cute how obsessed she had become. Ever practical, Gloom shifted his satchel to the right, giving his left side a temporary respite. He made went over his mental calculations. Their journey to the salt marshes had been mapped out with exceeding care down to the last detail of when to leave, who brought what and when the other two will come. Because they will.

Chokecherry was impressively late. Whether or not anyone had told him about the little family gathering was up in the air: more likely than not, each one of his siblings would look at the other and shrug, I thought YOU had told him. Strangle had never been one for being on time, or appropriately dignified; once he'd shown up thoroughly sloshed on some of Mirebeat's fermented juice and had ruined an entire gathering. But he'd make his way to the gathering with a spring in his step. His lips, face, and his legs up to the knees were stained with a rich reddish-purple dye: he'd been eating berries again, and Chokecherry never knew when to stop. If it looked good, felt good, or tasted good, he would eat or do it until he literally, physically, could not. He glanced around at his siblings, moving up to them, and bumped into Persimmon -- a friendly bump of the chest, perhaps, by way of greeting. (Or maybe he was drunk again.) "What's going on?"

"Ooh no no no," Fade said, earnestly and sternly, "not the way that she was watching you and nodding and oooooooh - " some enthusiastic stamping, "it was amazing, like out of romantic tale of yore. I must know more," a brief diversion "- you can make it quick and we'll talk about something else - did you find her lost, like a little bird fallen from its nest, in the darkness of night? Or did you come across her, perchance, as her patterned coat shone in the moonlight?" When Fade was this enraptured her mind was very focused indeed. She rather preferred the former situation; she could always relate to alleviating the plight of poorer souls.

Fell's face slowly twisted as Fade's narrative quickly twisted into a fanciful redemption romance. He was just on his way to interrupt his colleague and rescue the poor buck when he saw...her.
HER.
And she'd brought reinforcements.
All thoughts of rescuing the poor buck vanished from his mind as his worst nightmare bore down upon the shop with a veritable squadron. Instead, he made a beeline for his boss, uncharacteristically barging in upon his business. "Riiiiiise," he vocalised urgently, a panicked, quavering whine in falsetto, "Riiiise, it's her. The one I told you about. Doom."
(TBC'd by Maxx tomorrow - sorry!)

Red was starting to get angry. Not even the arrival of a second very large group and the possible panic of the other associate could distract him. He held his breath for a second, and composed his next sentence.
"I came here to buy some exotic things, will you please help me? Tell me about your wares, I heard you have strange meats you don't usually find in the Swamp? And specially preserved fruits?"
He hoped she would get the hint, he wasn't sure he could keep his temper in check again. Just in case she didn't, he composed what he would say and do, so that he wouldn't do anything extreme. He would simply tell her that he would find someone to help him, and walk further into the shop to find someone else. He would not be cruel to her, she couldn't help it. Thinking that made him feel a little better. Sure, she couldn't help it, some people were just curious.
God he was glad he didn't do this to Only Dreaming.
