"Nooo, don't do that," Taryn said, shaking her head. She barely had any backing on romanticism, in real life or fiction, but she knew that giving up was a bad idea. Where would Sally have been if she had given up?! "Ask her out on a date. Just one. Nobody says you have to go on a second one. It's okay to tell her you're teasing if you were teasing, but I don't think you were. Look at you. You're blushing. Your stumbling over words. Just ask the girl out." and then she reiterated:
"Who is she, anyway?"

"I WAS teasing!" he repeated. "Don't you think you should at least have some experience before trying to hook people--wait, obviously you don't," he said, giving her a dirty look. Somehow, though, after him stumbling over himself this entire conversation, it wasn't that intimidating.
"What would I do on a date, anyway?" he asked. "I'd probably wind up dragging her off for a concert or something, one that's not her type of music, or to a movie that ain't her type of movie. What would you do for a date?" he asked her.

This was where Taryn got lost. She tapped her chin thoughtfully, eyes flickering to the ceiling. Although on a normal day she might have been intimidated by Roch's glaring, her mind was whirring too fast and finding him too cute to really care.
"I'm not sure," Taryn said, shrugging, "If I knew who it was, maybe..." Now was the third and final repetition of the question. If Roch didn't give it up now, he just wasn't going to.
"Ghouls like..."
What did ghouls like? Without knowing the ghoul's identity, there was no surefire way to be sure. Tset would like flowers, but someone like Danny... "You're making this very hard." Taryn took another bite out of her taco, watching Roch out of the tops of her eyes.

"It's... Xiu," he muttered, feeling even more like an idiot than before. "And I KNOW I'm an idiot, and seriously, I should probably just stick with my guitar, because I know the guitar can't... y'know, dump me as a friend."
He sighed, seeing that she thought he was funny. "She and me, we hardly got anything in common. I mean, I'm a punk off the streets and she's a classy lady, and..."

Oh, the tea girl! Taryn clapped her hands together, thinking Good choice! Xiu was a cutiepie for certain, and sweet as punch. Sure, Roch was right, they didn't seem so very similar, but there were other things!
"Opposites attract," she said finally, a grin splitting her face ad she shrugged softly, "You two get along, right? That's good! It's scary when people have a part of you, but it can be so happy!" That's what the movies said, anyway.
"Yes, yes, flowers, I think. You should get her some pretty flowers. Pick them yourself, maybe? Ooh, what kind of music does she like... no, I don't imagine it matches, does it? Why not go to a park? Just a nice walk, a first date where you're not bother super awkward and private but it's personal, too. You could... hold hands! But no pressure!" Honestly, Taryn didn't know that much about Xiu personally, but certain things could be assumed from a person's style or mannerisms. What little she had seen leaned toward a more ladylike, delicate type; no blaring rock music. "Maybe lunch. I bet you could find a nice cafe..."

He cocked his head at her, a baffled look on his face as she went on. This was the same ghoul that hadn't been able to look him in the eye? "You ah... you're like her, aren't you?" he asked when she took a breath. "I mean, you're obsessed with love, too. You and her would get along real well," he added with a hint of a tease.
"I did take her to the wishing well once," he said after thinking for a moment. "But she almost got eaten by man-eating plants. So I guess that doesn't qualify as a first date or anything."

Taryn giggled softly and blushed. Oh, Roch, she didn't know the first thing about love. This particular event, though? Pretty exciting.
"Man-eating plants? Like Steve?!" As far as she remembered, Roch had been there for that class... oh my. That definitely was not a pleasant first date. "No, I don't think that counts. Kind of the right idea, though! She liked it, right? Except for almost being eaten."

"They didn't have eyebrows," he said, still stuck on the point, even though he knew Steve didn't have them either, now.
"I still say man eating plants should have eyebrows. Maybe I'll sneak back when they're sleeping with some caterpillers and super glue and give them eyebrows," he said, seriously planning it out. "You know where I can get a jackload of caterpillers?"

What was he doing?!
"Roch! Roch, there are more important things than plant eyebrows! We're trying to get you a ghoulfriend!" Taryn realized she was speaking a bit loudly and lowered her voice to continue. Nobody would be paying attention, anyway. "She liked the outside? I know she wears a lot of flowers, but I don't know what she is to know if she has any natural affinities."
The nerd in the ghoul had come out, and she pushed her glasses up her nose as if on cue.

"Yeah, she seemed to," he said with a shrug. "I mean, she even puts flowers on her pets, which was really cute," he added with a little grin.
"So yeah, maybe a trip out, y'know, without pushing the DATE aspect too hard--and probably not trying to glue the eyebrows on while we're out... maybe Rikki would give me a hand with that one," he said, clearly not letting go of that line of thought. "You wanna help? We can get the spray type glue!"

Taryn waved her hand dismissively. Roch was a special one, that was for sure.
"See? So flowers are good. Ooh, maybe a potted plant? One she can grow... that might be unique?" One more Taryn stroked her chin. Should she offer to make him spookies to bring her? No, not on a first date. Flowers would be sure to make the 'date' aspect more apparent, but... "You should probably tell her. Maybe at the end, see how it goes..."

"Tell her about the eyebrows? You think she'd wanna do it, after all?" Roch asked blankly. "Oh, you're set on the whole... love thing, still," he muttered, his neck turning red again. "Yeah, maybe, I dunno. I'm still trying to imagine a date DATE."
He sighed, shrugging. "Don't expect this to end happily ever after, okay? I mean, seriously, it started as a JOKE. I still don't know what the hell I'm thinking."

Taryn just giggled. Yes, Roch. The eyebrows. That would woo her something wonderful.
"I dunno. Don't scare yourself out of it because of the word, it's different for everyone," the chimera nodded. Of course, she didn't really have any idea, but it was a reassuring gesture for a friend. She continued to add on, "A lot of romances start over silly things. It might have been a joke in the beginning, but you clearly have a thing for her now..."

"That's exactly what I DON'T want to think about right now, thank you," Roch muttered. "Sometimes if you want too much you wind up losing it all," he added more quietly. A bittersweet smile pulled at his lips. "Hey, I ain't gonna tell anyone if I get turned down... but y'think you could teach me how to bake sometime? It might cheer me up."

"Sure," Taryn nodded, kicking her feet under the table. Of course, then Roch wouldn't have to come to her for spookies, but maybe he could make cakes for his ghoulfriend. Oh, how she hoped it would work out between them! "but you should tell me, because now I'm invested."
The ghoul moved to bite the taco that was still in her hand, but found that most of it had plopped out and took up a fork instead, scooping up some meat(?) and shoving it in her mouth. Still she watched Roch.
