"Hm..." Taryn reasoned, slipping easily into the role of teacher again. She was most comfortable in a learning situation, and this certainly counted. "I assume microwaves are just an example?" She picked the book up and ran over it quickly. Very clinical. She had been lucky; the boring and tedious excited her, and words were potentially her favorite (as with numbers).
A lot of people just weren't capable of sitting and reading these things, though. Danny, for example, had needed pictures and she herself often needed to talk through things. "It may be easier for you if you were to greugle-images, uh... microwaves. Diagrams and the like. If you tell me what you... really need, though? I might be able to help..."
Please, please don't be sex-ed...

Hel leaned closer to Taryn as the ghoul seemed to settle into a teaching role. She peered down curiously at the book now as the ghoul looked it over, almost like she was expecting magic to happen now that Taryn was here to help. “Example…uh…sure…?” She replied, not really sure what that meant. The book was about microwaves, and while she didn’t have an essay or a test to write about it…she needed to just be able to pick up any book and study it, and microwaves seemed like a good start. If she could study that, she could study anything, right?
The reaper’s brows furrowed as talk about greugle-images came up, and her eyes flicked over to the computers before she smirked lightly. Heh, diagrams, that’s what one of her older sisters always did. “What I really need…?” Hel echoed, rubbing her chin as she stared at the book. “…Aid in developing study skills, yes?” She didn’t so much need help in a certain subject, but just creating a basis for the skills in general.

...huh. So it really was microwaves? Huh! So either Hel was taking some bizarre science class, or she was another person who learned just to learn. Now that would be nice. She looked back up to Hel and nodded, resting her chin on her hand.
"I haven't really done much... study-skills teaching, but I could try to help," the ghoul nodded, "I'd say we should start with highlighting, but... I don't think the librarians would appreciate that. Hmm." She thought deeply, eyes trailing up, and pushed her hair behind her ear.
"Diagrams are a good way to start. ...see? See, here, it goes on about oscillation and heating water. How does this help?" She tore a piece of paper out of her notebook and drew a quick image.

Hel was…almost learning just to learn, almost. She was no where near as studious as Taryn, but she recognized that if she wanted to succeed at the Academy like she planned to do, it would be best to expand her horizons anyway possible. Hel nodded her head as Taryn went on to explain, and shifted even closer to the ghoul, leaning over to hover over what she was doing with the utmost interest. Ooh, she was drawing! The reaper looked delighted and even awed as the ghoul drew a little diagram, and her brows furrowed as she stared at it.
Wait. Wait…
She stared at it for a moment longer before her face broke out in a very surprised expression, as she excitedly pointed at the drawing. “That makes sense!” She cried out rather loudly, grinning at Taryn now. “Your skills are amazing!”

Taryn laughed, absolutely delighted. She had never met someone so outright excited to be learning, and she had barely done anything at all! The ghoul nodded, tapping her paper with a finger to accentuate her point.
"It looks like you might be a visual learner," she nodded. Of course, she was no professor herself and they had barely tried, but it definitely seemed as such. "So... you should probably doodle as you work. Teachers will hate me for saying so, but take your notes with pictures. Do you have an eyephone?" Now the chimera turned back to Hel.
"If you find clinical terms hard to understand, you can download a thesaurus. Type in a word and it'll send you 20 with the same meaning. So, like... oscillation? Needlessly large. 'Bouncing' is easier."

The valkyrie was starting to form the opinion that maybe all science topics should be illustrated by pictures. Look how quickly it made sense when it was a drawing! “A visual learner?” Hel echoed, rubbing her chin. So…she learned best by seeing it? That made sense to her as well! Back at home, whenever she was being taught a new task, it was always by watching someone else do it, or seeing it in a picture. Taryn had the ghoul’s complete and undivided attention as she went on to suggest drawing while note taking.
Hel reached back into an apron pocket and pulled out her notepad, jotting this down as well. “I’ve never thought of doing that before…I will give it a try!” She replied honestly, grinning. “Uh…eyephone?” The ghoul shook her head. Nope, all she had was a lame and basic phone that could call and do text messages, and that was it. Her brows furrowed as a thesaurus was brought up, and the reaper glanced around. “…But…they have one of those…here, yes?”

Taryn nodded at the ghoul's half-question and smiled broadly. She'd helped! Good! She could do nothing but silently agree as the valkyrie went through the process of figuring it all out, until eyephones came up. Could someone else really not have one?! Now that was new. The chimera had had very little faith that anyone else even knew what a thesaurus was any more.
"Of course! They probably have dozens. I'm sure they wouldn't mind if you took one out. It just takes a little bit longer to look things up."

Aww…take a thesaurus out? Hel rubbed her cheek because great, just great, that’s exactly what she wanted to do, not. She didn’t have an interest in taking a library book home, much less looking through it but eh…one did what they had to, right? Her gaze slid back over to the computers. “But ah…I could…uh…” What was that thing the students did on the computers? When they wanted to find things…? “Oh…! But I could gruegle a thesaurus too, yes?”
The reaper seemed to perk up again after coming to this conclusion, and appreciatively looked over Taryn’s doodle before nodding to herself. Okay, her tolerance for the library was coming to an end for today, and now she had a different approach on how to tackle books! Hel was, dare she say…excited to start learning by doodling! She now looked up at the ghoul who had become her impromptu tutor for the day and grinned at her widely. “Thank you kindly for your assistance today! I will go and try drawing while I am reading or studying.” The valkyrie now stood stretching. “If I uh…need any more assistance…will I be able to find you here?”

"Oh, yes, of course!" Taryn could have smacked herself in the face. Of course there was a thesaurus online! In fact, she was fairly confident that there would be a thesaurus.com in existence, which would be great if Hel could spell 'thesaurus'. Her gaze followed the reaper's to her paper, and then back again as her smile reemerged.
"Well, I don't, um... live here, or..." They'd gone over that she wasn't a librarian, right? Taryn's cheeks turned a deeper red and her shyness showed as she looked to the table and brushed her hair behind her ear. Right, right, she had to make herself available. She took her doodle back wordlessly and scrawled her name and room number over it. "This is my room number, but if I'm not there you can leave a note or something."

The reaper seemed content now to find out that she could use a thesaurus on the computer. While she wasn’t still all that fond of them, they were still better than taking one of those giant books back to her room. Taryn could also be rest assured that Hel did know how to spell ‘thesaurus’.
Hel leaned back over the ghoul once more as she took the doodle and then wrote her name and room number on it. The reaper grinned as she took the paper, looking it over for a moment before folding it up and tucking it into an apron pocket. “Excellent!” She cheered. “I will leave a note if you are not in, friend.” She gave a firm nod of her head in confirmation, and then held her hand out to the ghoul again for another shake. “I will inform you of my progress sometime as well!”

Friend? Were they... friends now, or was the reaper ghoul just being polite? Either way, Taryn felt her shyness surge back in as she shook her hand, still quite firmly. She'd never have imagined her tutoring would go this far. The chimera nodded softly and then shrank back into herself as she regathered her books and clutched them to her chest.
"It was nice to meet you," was all she could offer before smiling and skittering off to hide somewhere in a corner to finish her day's work. Maybe Hel was right. Maybe she did spend a lot of time in the library...

Yup, by the valkyrie’s standards, whether Taryn wanted it or not, they were friends now.
She delighted on the firm hand shake once more, still grinning all the while. “It was nice to meet you, too!” Hel watched as the ghoul collected her things and skittered off, and then spun on her heel. She tried to not look too eager to leave the library, but she wasn’t going to lie, it still wasn’t her favorite place to be. But, maybe after the help she received from Taryn it could start to become…tolerable.
