"I am not sure," she replied. She wasn't sure if her mother ordered it, or if it was another gift from one of the companies she had worked for. The chances were much more likely that it had been a gift from a company she worked for, but Ainsley would never know. All she knew was that it had come in the mail, that it was from Ralph Lauren's collection and that it was still too warm to wear it. She wasn't sure if it was important to know, and she looked at Ridley expectantly.
"Should I call her and ask?"

Ridley couldn't help but blink a little, as her eyes darted a little as she had gotten herself confused. Ainsley's response hadn't helped in the least, having expanded the problem since it wasn't what she had expected.
"Aa, well.. yeah, it would be kind of nice to know," she replied with a little laugh as she rubbed the back of her head sheepishly. "But you said sent, wouldn't you mother just buy you the dress or something?" Maybe making her own questions clearer would get the right answers she was seeking.

Ainsley was looking at the dress she was wearing before she looked at the ducks and then to Ridley with her answer.
"She might have bought it but she had to send it to me because she's not here in Destiny City."

Ridley couldn't tell if Ainsley was upset about that, or if it was a sore subject to talk about really. She did at least understand what that all meant. "Oooooh."
A beat later she added, "that's pretty cool, so you have two places you can live!" Like a vacation home or something, Ridley liked to see the better of the situation even though sometimes it was hard to find in all the gloom, like when it came to a lot of senshi stuff. "Who do you live with when you're here?" She asked happily.

It was more like four places to live if you counted the summer home in France and her father's place in New York. However, Ainsley didn't have a comeback involving either of those. Instead she just sat there thinking about it. Ridley made a good point, she did have lots of places to live in all sides of the country and even in another country.
"Oh," she paused. "I live with my sister."

If Ridley knew of the many houses that Ainsley's family owned, she probably would have launched into a million questions about each of them. But, as luck had it the other girl was spared from them and she only settled on the next topic at hand.
"Oh, neat! You have a sister? What's that like?" She asked, happily curious. "All I have are brothers and they like to pick on me and stuff." That might be putting it lightly but it was weird to announce your brothers beat you up instead.

"She's kind of like my mother," she said. If you knew Ainsley's mother or the fact that Ainsley's mother had basically pawned her off on her father who then in turn pawned her off on his other daughter then you might not think much of Ainsley's sister Bell but Ainsley on the other hand only said it with the best intentions. Her mother was a beautiful lady, and was very successful at almost everything she did (except, as you may know it, being a mother) and was very loved by her daughter despite all her shortcomings as a mother.
"She's really pretty and she is really smart. Her food is really good and she—"
There was a distinct pause in the child's sentence.
"—waaaaah, they pick on you? That's not very gentlemanly! They should escort you to school and protect you." Just like Sam and Xavier did for her, although neither were related to her like a brother, however, both were dearly beloved just like Ainsley imagined a brother would be.

Ridley nodded. She could understand that, sometimes her brothers took on very paternal roles especially when her dad wasn't home for days on end; and given how their mother couldn't cook, well...
Ainsley's surprise was equally as surprising to her. "They say its for my own good though," she nodded not the least bit upset, "that it'll teach me to be tougher and stuff!" Ridley was well aware that some boys were taught to never mistreat a girl - given how many never fought back and all - it gave her an advantage at least.
"I don't think my brothers would escort me to school though, when they go to different ones." That one was a weird idea.
Ridley's phone buzzed in her pocket, delightfully ignored.

Ainsley wasn't entirely sure about the legitimacy of Ridley's brother's claims that it was for her own good but there was no reason for Ridley to say something that wasn't true. It made the situation feel heavier, knowing that her brothers acted like that to her. Maybe Ainsley just didn't understand because she didn't have any brothers (that she knew of, after all, she didn't know she had a sister until last year). She probably would have been pouting had her attention not been focused on something else.
She heard a noise but she wasn't sure what it was.
She waited a moment but the noise was still there.
"Do you hear something?"
