I know. I have family in Chile where prostitution is legal I suppose, and they wear professional clothing, slacks blouses and heels, and not the trashing fishnet and pleather here. They can be taken seriously as professionals.

I find hooker-attire quite annoying. Especially since that's the attire trendy teens like to copy for some reason.

I don't mind people wearing what they want to, as long as it is none offensive. I have worn fishnets in public before, but never with a miniskirt and tube top or anything like that.

I have an issue with young girls purposefully putting themselves out there to be gawked at. I am full on the for the "Woman get raped because someone raped them" argument, which is 100% true, but I would not let my daughter out of the house with clothes that would give her a provocative look.

Well, not really. See, a catch-22 is when there's no real viable option. For example, you won't buy an electric car unless there are more charging stations, but unless there are more electric cars sold, more charging stations won't be built. The US has a real viable option. Legalize prostitution and marijuana. There's no catch to doing so. The tax money made from sale profits of the world's greatest activity (sex) and the world's greatest drug (marijuana) would easily match or outrank the money made from arresting prostitutes and drug users. It would also make it easier on the taxpayers who have to pay to feed and house people in jail. I have to pay for people like me to be in jail. That's bullshit.

...but I'm just tryna dream.

It's like you said before, the government is stubborn. If they change the law, they'll have to admit they made a mistake (oh lawd! What are we gonna doooo? ). If they don't change the law, people will continue to be degraded and arrested while real criminals run free.

It doesn't matter to us, but the government's like "FFFFFUUUUUUU-"

No matter what anyone says, it is provovcative attire, and someone will always see it that way. Therefore the danger is always there.

Yes there is always danger, there's no way around that.

Back on topic, how do you feel about the marijuana side of the argument?

I LOVE POT! ;D

The few pot-related deaths I'veheard of were people hwo really should not have been given pot. If it's legalized we could set up a facility, like when you give someone alcohol for the first time, and keep them in a controlled environment so we can see their initial reaction to the substance. If they don't react well, put it on their licence or something.

There could also be public establishments (I want a hookah house for tobacco SO BAAAAAD) where people can smoke together in a safe environment.

The only reason pot's still illegal is because the rich bastards in this world can get even more money by tossing people in jail. How the hell that works, I still don't know. Government funding or some crap.

Yes! I only tried it once and it was fine, but as long as it is illegal and gives my future employers the impression that i am irresponsible, I won't be doing it.

I don't think we should be so involved in people's lives as to monitor their first times. But if someone is reported on more than one occasion to be being drunk and violent/dangerous, then yes make it illegal for them to drink. Same goes with smoking.

We can only monitor it if we allow it. While it is illegal, we have no control.

I can't say if I've ever smoked pot, but I've smelled it before. Holy crap some dude was smoking a joint right outside of the windy door at work a month ago. I was in a spot that didn't allow me to move. XD

There are many types of people who oppose legalizing Marijuana for a variety of reasons. Many of these groups have some very strange reasons and selfish interests. Many are just ignorant of the facts. Here's some of the opposition:

The Uninformed - People who believe the misinformation that Pot is harmful to society.

The Government - Pot has been illegal for so long that no politicians have the political courage to tell the truth about Pot. The ones that do tell the truth are defeated by their opponents that paint them as a druggie. Many of these anti-drug politicians are funded by the Alcohol lobby.

Religion - Anything fun is sin and of the Devil. Churches might lose members as people figure out that God can't be that stupid.

Moralizers - The morally superior who enjoy looking down their noses at the less fortunate and get a sadistic thrill in putting people in jail.

People who do no Drugs - These people who don't drink, don't smoke, in some cases don't even drink coffee. They just don't understand why anyone would want to smoke anything or do any drug. From their perspective the world would be better off if no one did anything.

The Alcohol Lobby - Legalizing Pot would seriously cut into the sales of Beer. Pot would become the recreational drug of choice because it is safer than Beer.

The Tobacco Lobby - Pot has the ability in some people to help them break the addiction of nicotine. Pot smoking could actually reduce the number of tobacco addicts.

Law Enforcement - There are a lot of people who make a living fighting Pot who would have to go get a real job if Pot were legalized. Police departments get a lot of funding to fight Marijuana and those funds could be returned to the taxpayer if Pot were made legal. Cops would have to chase robbers, rapists, and murderers.

Government Agencies - Using unconstitutional civil forfeiture laws the government has been able to use the presence of Pot to steal billions of dollars of private property from the People. Drug laws have been an excuse to circumvent our constitutional right and justify wire tap laws, the erosion of protection from illegal searches, key recovery encryption, and domestic spying. If you take a politically unpopular position like this one I'm taking now, the government can plant drugs on you and put you away.

Pot Dealers - If Pot were legalized then people making money off of selling Pot illegally would be out of business. Pot prices would drop to $10 a bale. Crime relating to illegal Pot money would vanish.

Wood Industry - Hemp would become the primary source of fiber for paper products as well as a new source for building materials. We wouldn't have to cut down every big tree in the world.

Private Prisons - If Pot were legalized the private prison industry would be hurt. They would no longer jail Pot smokers. It could free up space for violent criminals.

Trial Lawyers - Normal people caught with a joint spend billions each year on lawyers to get them off of criminal charges after getting caught with a joint. Lawyers get rich off of the Marijuana laws. If Marijuana were legal this money could be spent sending your kids to college.

Mental Hospitals - There's a big industry treating people for problems they don't have. If you have insurance, you're crazy until the insurance coverage runs out. If you smoke Pot then you have mental problems. If Pot were legal some of these people would have to get real jobs. We should start treating people who are addicted to 12 step programs.

Republicans - Pot helps you see reality the way it really is. It's harder to con a Pot smoker on political issues. Once you get stoned it's harder to want to hate Liberals, Queers, Blacks, Pregnant Teens, Draft Dodgers, President Clinton, Feminists, Lesbians, Pot Smokers, and other people the Republicans want you to hate. When you're stoned it's harder to like Newt Gingrich, John Ashcroft, the KKK, the Christian Coalition, Jerry Falwell, Pat Buchanan, Reverend Sun Myung Moon, People who beat Gay's to Death, People who blow up Abortion Clinics, and the morally superior in general.

Political Cowards - Politicians like to pose with police as somebody who is "against drugs" promising to lock up all the pot smokers and throw away the key. These people need an artificial issue to be against so they don't have to face real issues like how to protect the public from crooked lawyers and crooked judges. Political cowards cross all party lines when it comes to pot and includes President Clinton.

Pot should be legal because it was wrongfully made illegal to begin with, and I want to get high at least once in my life without having to worry about ******** up cops busting down my door, or serving a life sentence for a joint.

Prostitution should be legal because the porn industry exists. When you break down both, they're pretty much ******** for money. Porn stars ******** for money, why can't prostitutes? The only real difference is scale. While porn stars might ******** a certain set of people, prostitutes could get a lot of customers. Something like condoms could make prostitution safer, and making it into the kind of industry with companies would mean each "employee" would be required to stay clean, and have a safer industry for it.*

* For the record, I wouldn't really care for going to hire a hooker, but that doesn't mean others shouldn't have the option.
PostPosted: Sun Aug 21, 2011 2:01 pm

I personally believe that every one should be able to have a choice in what they do with their lives that isn't harmful to others and themselves with out being terribly reprimanded for it. Smoking weed, having sex with professional women for money, abortion and all current issues that are just molehills made into mountains.

By no means the only industry that would 'suffer' if cannabis were flat-out made legal. Hemp can be made into clothing and even into bio-fuel if it's processed correctly. Think how much money the oil industry rakes in each year, and just imagine if a big chunk of that money were lost to the production of hemp as a petroleum product. From a business standpoint, it's more economically viable to keep lobbying for the prohibition of cannabis than it would be to legalize it and adapt to the new standards, because the industries that are set to lose a big chunk of yearly income have become so comfortable with their current system that they'll do anything to keep it from changing.

It's like so-called 'piracy' and the RIAA: if the record industry would adapt to the digital revolution instead of wrongfully going after people who engage in filesharing, they wouldn't be losing nearly as much money as they claim to be. But instead, they become totalitarian, clinging to a dated system and using their bank account to go after anybody who tries to challenge it. Compare that to the argument of legalizing cannabis and you have a very similar model.

On an unrelated note: I find it absolutely hilarious how California has taken so many steps to legalize cannabis, yet their gun laws are the single most oppressive of any other state in the USA. Extreme left wing mindset tearing down society as usual...
