alot of people might think of some girls too innocent to play the games that they play or alot of guys find it a shock since they have never know anyone who played video games

Ha! I remember once after Christmas Break, a teacher asked me what I did during the break and, well...
Me: I played video games.
Teacher (who is a guy): Huh? I didn't know girls played video games...
Practically every other girl in the room: Of COURSE we do!
Teacher: eek
Me: eek
I was kind of surprised myself... sweatdrop

A couple of my buddies at work were surprised that I bought a video game before arriving. It was more or less a conversation such as:
Coworker 1: You bought a game?
Me: Yea, I can't wait to play it!
Coworker 2: Girl gamers, a rare breed.
Coworker 1: I would love to date a girl gamer *dreamy look*
I find it sad that the games marketed towards girl are little kiddy ones like Hello Kitty and Barbie, then again, those are little girls. We like the ole hack 'n' slash too! Or simulators *cough*Sims*cough* ninja

I wonder if it has something to do with the whole "there are no girl geeks/nerds" myth. Since gamers were originally largely computer nerds, and (sarcasm)everyone knows that girls aren't into computers, (/sarcasm), therefore girls couldn't be gamers. And it stuck.
(I'm still miffed that I had to leave my PS2 with my boyfriend when I moved. I wanna play Atelier Iris! I'm probably going to end up buying myself another PS2 as soon as I get a new job, and that's still going to hurt the budget. Oh, well, at least I kept the GameCube.)

EndlessDark when I mentioned to one of my friends that I play games he was like "whoa..you're not like a normal girl" neutral this boy at school that i sit next to in one of my classes(hes annoying beyond words can describe). ya, well i told him i play and love video games one day and he was like "your not like other girls, were you adopted? i think you may be an alien." thats seroisly what he said. and i laughed. then he asked what was funny. i laughed harder. he asked me out every day after that. now im thinking of switching classes to get away from him. xp but, yah, had that happen to me too. lol.

Sorta related....in the same vein at least....
At school, one of my classes in computer programming. Learning Turing. Anyways, I'm the only girl in my class. First day, the teacher walks in and says:
Teacher: "Alright guys, our first project (pause) it is all guys, isn't it? I thought so--"
Me (cutting him off): *coughcough*
Teacher (surprised): "Oh! Alright, well, guys and girl, our first project..." etc.
Uh...guess you had to be there. I was just kind of annoyed that he was so damn surprised about it.

I think a lot of depends on where you live too. I know in my area girls playing games is unheard of, and when one of my friends moved to Florida, she was surprised to find in her area there were more girl gamers than guy gamers. But, I think its still a growing thing, and I know our gaming club here was 40 guys and two girls, and then they branched off and made a DDR club, and that attracted a few more girls, but only to that club. Its just something that not everyone's grown into I think, but some of the guys shouldn't overreact like they do, not that I'm blacklisting all of them. sweatdrop

here in the UK it's thought that girls genereally play "girly" games, such as barbie games and HEllo Kitty etc...or dance games...
ME and my bf always talk about games though xp not "girly" ones either lol

yeah this is pretty much how me n my hubby met. we were at a party and i was talking about how much i was anticipating the release of FFXI (which i never did get to play... sad ) and he was playing Q3 and completely stopped n spun around in his chair "OMG u play games?!" and thus started a beautiful relationship haha. we're seperated at the moment for college but occasionally we'll play zsnes together online hehe. SUNSET RIDERS RULES!!!!

Pherfiniel What about the GameBOY? XP That's where nintendo lost me. I'm still waiting on the GameGIRL. :] lmao....now that you mention it there was a VERY old PC game where that was put in, in place of a gameboy....it was a little pink rectangle on an 8-bit (or less) shelf feiry_fawna Some boys just dont know competition when they see it wink damn straight....I can't count how many times an unknown girl utterly beat the s**t out of me in half-life Koshou Ha!
