Lifemates {Solo}
{Word count: 761}

She folded another piece of clothing carefully back into her trunk. Much of the contents had been pushed out by the curious golden snout that wanted to see what was in there. Narisa felt her lips curl into a soft smile as she glanced to her side at the gold dragonet curled at her feet, watching everything. A dragon! She had Impressed to a dragon! A golden beauty. Something she had not anticipated happening the longer the Hatching had gone on. Narisa had begun to doubt herself as one hatchling after another had Impressed to her fellows and passed her by. What if she hadn't been good enough? Hadn't had what it took to be a rider? Bonded to a dragon? Someone fit to be a lifemate?

But you are. You are mine, Narisamine. And I am yours. The young queen tilted her head to regard her chosen. Blinking mellow blue eyes a few times, she placed her head along her rider's feet and sighed.

Yes. Yes she was Cepheith's now. Just as the dragon was hers. Her lifemate. So maybe...maybe there was something in her that was just right? At her feet, the gold one purred softly in agreement. To her, Narisa felt, she was a just the right match. It was why she chose Narisa, along with a few other reasons. The former vintner smiled. "A few other things, huh?"

Cepheith lifted her head and crooned. Yes. A few other things. That gold head swiveled around to look around their weyr. We shall work together to make this feel more home like. It is ours, after all. And will be ours from now on. Moving carefully, Cepheith rose to her feet and sniffed around again. Her tail flicked from side to side lazily as she walked. She was determined to learn her weyr from one end to the other. It was hers and her bonded's.

"Golden love, I promise it won't disappear. And will be here tomorrow for you to explore around as well." Narisa closed the trunk holding her belongings and moved to tend to her dragon. Cepheith sat where she was and watched as Hers walked over. "Just like it didn't disappear when you woke up today or yesterday." Her hands ran along the gold wedge shaped head as Cepheith directed where she wished to be scratched. Narisa was more than willing to appease the dragonet.

"We'll have a lot to learn, won't we? Especially since you are a Queen." She only knew so much about the Weyr as a whole. And everything she did know had either been word of mouth back at her crafthall or what she had begun to learn here at the Weyr itself. Don't not worry, Narisamine. We will learn what we need to learn. And we will be a strong pair. I am here to help you. A soft smile spread along her lips. "And I am here to help you, my golden one." Partners bound together forever. As Weyrwoman Abigail had said during the feast.

We should sleep. I can tell you are tired. I am tired as well. Can you sense it? What I feel? Cepheith nudged Hers gently, encouraging Narisa to see what she spoke of. My emotions will be your emotions. My thoughts, your thoughts.

<Yes. I can! I feel your drowsiness.> It was strange to feel the second thoughts that drifted around in her mind. She had her own thoughts, yes. But there was a second warm set of thoughts. Cepheith. Narisa was learning to associate that warm and honey feeling she got as Cepheith. Her bonded's thoughts and feelings. "We shall sleep then. And do as the Weyrwoman has instructed. Learn about each other. Build our bond. And, most importantly, learn what we need to be a strong gold pair." Even if Narisa still felt some doubts. And probably would feel them.

We will be strong. Together. With a wide yawn, Cepheith nudged Hers towards her bed. Narisa moved willingly, feeling the events of the past two days weighing down on her body. Sleep. A good night of sleep is what she needed. And tomorrow was another day to learn more about her queen.

<Good night, my golden love.> Narisa thought with love and warmth towards Cepheith as the gold settled down to curl up comfortably, snout tucked against a paw. A rider. She was Narisa of Gold Cepheith! It was the last thought that drifted through her mind to pass over to Cepheith, who purred softly as both dragon and rider fell into sleep.

Pleasant Things {Journal}

Journal Entry
I have some spare time on me, so here I find myself writing just a little. Cepheith has been growing each day and I grow more attached to her every time I gaze at her. She is a darling, even with her times of frenzied activity. With each passing day the two of us seem to be learning new things about one another as, life here at the Weyr, and about our fellow weyrlings. The gold one adores her clutch siblings - or at least I have yet to find any she doesn't tolerate. And aside from her hatching day, I have not witnessed any of her temper that I know lurks within that gold beauty.

Things have been going well, overall. I am pleased to write that I now know all the names of my fellow Jr. weyrlings! It was making me feel terrible when my fellows knew who I was yet I couldn't return the favor. Cepheith helped me greatly. She would quiz me and ask me to describe each of them. It helped me a lot and I will admit I am happy to have stepped over that small hurtle.

We've gotten to know some of the others a little more as well. Just recently we met T'rel and Lunath who is a sweet guy and a darling green. Then there's also S'kiro and blue Neptanth. They are a very nice pair. Neptanth is definitely turning out to be a large blue! Spent some very enjoyable time with them and Cepheith was happy to see Neptanth at the time. She does like spending time with her clutch siblings when she can. We also met a Crimsonrider and his dragon! S'kagi and Luvith. Apparently male Crimsonriders are not very common. But the pair seemed to fit one another well. Luvith was so big! She is the first dragon or a larger size, aside from Brakiath, that I've seen up close. We learned a little more about Crimson dragons that day as well as a bit more about Benden Weyr.

Benden Weyr. There seemes to be some tension between them and the newer Weyrs. I still don't know much about it, other than what I've heard from word of mouth, but Cepheith and I have decided on at least one thing together. We shall be wary of them for now. It feels safer and smarter in doing so.

I'm afraid that is all I have time to write this eve. Cepheith is rousing from her nap and I will need to oil her hide. Until my next moment of free time.

Whispers in the Air {Solo}
{Word Count: 794}

Confusion and irritation. Those were the two feelings she kept picking up from her bondmate the most. Confusion as to what all the fuss was over Benden Weyr and their 'large' Queen egg. Did it really matter what size a Queen was? Weren't Queen's all the same, not matter their size and build? Irritation was coming from so much confusion. And Narisa was doing her best to be patient with the Gold while comforting her at the same time.

"I don't know the answers either, dear heart." She felt like this was currently her most overly used phrase. "But I've been thinking on the things we have heard and what I've been learning." The goldrider glanced at her dragon, who was getting bigger and bigger by the day, sometimes during the day as well.

Cepheith churred in mild pleasure, leaning into the hands rubbing her itching skin. She'd grown yet again and as always, needed oiling. What is it that you have been thinking on? I have spent too much time trying to puzzle things out. None of it makes sense yet. She nuzzled her snout gentle against her rider. Perhaps you are right as well. The young Queen added. I need to stop worrying so.

Narisa smiled and continued to oil the golden hide. "Yes. You should stop worrying about such things. But, to continue with what I was saying. It sounds like there is a lot of 'rumor' in these rumors. Though everyone does agree on the egg sizes. I do not think it matters much on how overly large their Queen egg is. They should just be honored to have a Queen." Her own Queen huffed, still not liking how confused she was feeling. Narisa laughed a little. "Dear heart, stop fretting so much over it! Let's look at the important pieces. First, we know that there seems to be tension between the Weyrs, right? So that right there means slightly exaggerated rumors from the start." She paused to move along and start oiling on the gold's other side. "Secondly, there is another Queen in the world now. Unhatched, true. But another Queen never the less." Pausing in her oiling, Narisa moved to take that golden, wedge shaped head into hear hands and stare at Cepheith. "So stop fretting, silly!"

The young Queen snorted at Hers with amusement and love. Narisa was right. And she was worrying over what was probably nothing. Cepheith butted her head against her bonded, a draconic purr rumbling up from her chest. Narisamine, whatever would I do without you? She teased. Cepheith knew what the color of her hide meant. Understood what it meant to be a Gold dragon and the responsibilities that would fall upon her and her rider. It did not matter if you were a huge Queen or a small Queen. What mattered was how they chose to follow their destined paths.

We will be the best we can be. A great pair. I wish the unhatched Benden Queen well and hope she does not have too difficult a time.

Narisa hugged the golden head before picking up her cloth and getting to work on oiling again. "You are a wonderful Queen. And I will trust your judgment. I think we still have a lot to learn though. But it will make us stronger, right?" However there was one thing she was definitely sure about. She wanted to learn more about the Weyr politics and where the relationships between the Weyrs stood. From what she had learned, Benden had a tension filled relationship with Trine, especially after the loss of the Crimson. Malvren and Benden seemed to be on alright terms, though there may have been some tension growing there as well. And then their Weyr and Malvren seemed to be allies.

"Perhaps we will see about visiting Weyrwoman Abigail and Brakiath to learn whatever they have to teach us?" She did want to get to know the Weyrwoman a little better. Plus, she was a goldrider and would need to learn just what that entailed, even if she knew a good portion of it already. It never hurt to learn more, right?

I like this plan. And I wouldn't mind seeing Brakiath. You would like to see Brakiath's as well. Cepheith's lazy and content thought's drifted to Hers. Narisamine, there is a very itchy spot over my back hind leg. Can you please please attack it?!

The goldrider laughed, obliging the young Queen by rubbing the itchy spot, smiling fondly as warm affectionate feelings of pleasure came from her bonded. She was happy that Cepheith was no longer so wound up and confused. Still smiling, Narisa put her mind back to the task at hand and continued to oil her gold dragon.

Our Night {Solo}
{Word Count: 651}

The air was cool and felt wonderful against her face, a small breeze gently teasing her hair. Narisa sat with her eyes closed, face tilted up towards the stars as she allowed herself what was a rare moment of peace, in which she could sort through all the thoughts circling amid her mind. There were so many things... the continued repairs of the Weyr. The restocking of supplies. Dragons and rider's to tend to. Rebuilding of spirits. The list felt endless! And she knew better then to think it all fell on her shoulders alone. Oh no, she was quite aware that all of them felt it. But each of them deserved a moment to breathe as well!

Opening her eyes, Narisa sighed heavily, pulling her knees up to rest her arms on top of them and her chin atop her arms. Were they doing all that they could? Maybe... there was... something they could do better! Or maybe they hadn't thought of something-

Nonesense. Cepheith interrupted her rider's thoughts with a soft chuff, eye slitting open to regard the woman. We are doing our absolute best. Don't belittle us by doubting that.

Narisa glanced over her shoulder at the gold dragon curled around her. The goldrider herself was sitting beside one of Cepheith's forelegs, the Queen's legs crossed and one paw protectively curled towards her. "How can you be so sure?" She asked quietly, letting her blue eyes fall towards the portion of their Weyr she could see from their perch.

What do you see, Narisamine? She asked quietly.

For several minutes, Narisa didn't respond, taking in what she saw. "... Hope." She finally murmured, a small smile forming. The Weyr was slowly becoming... something of a Weyr again. "Will it still be Trine though?" She thought aloud, not sure what answer she really wanted for that.

It is, and will always be, our home. No matter what name it is given. Cepheith said after a moment of sifting through her rider's mind to find the right words to express. And home will always be where we have one another, my love.

Her lips curled into a sweet smile. Though it faded just as quickly as it appeared. Love. She was aware of how her fellow goldrider felt about her chosen bronzerider. And she worried for Kindra, hoping against hope that none of the other bronzes would be foolish enough to try and win them over. Her... friend. Yes, she was a friend. Kindra had lost so much already. Narisa did not want to see anything else befall her. Though lately... she'd seemed more edgy. Maybe they were all just overly exhausted?

... Annnd maybe she was taking more than she needed to worry about? Though the well being of a friend would always be important to her. As would those who remained loyal to the Weyr's.

Suunath and Hers are strong, like us. Do not worry, mine. They know we are here if they need us.

Cepheith was right. "I'm glad I have you, my heart. I don't know if I'd be strong enough to handle this alone."

The gold chuckled, shifting enough to nuzzle her rider. Of course you would be! But you are stronger still with me beside you.

Narisa unfolded her arms to rub at the golden hide, a fond smile forming along her lips. "You're all I'll ever need. And together, we'll make Trine proud." Leaning against Cepheith's snout, Narisa felt herself relax and her mind clear for the time being. Yes. Together, she and Cepheith were a formidable pair and they would not let their Weyr, or their dragonriders, be disappointed in them. It was the best they could truly do, after all. But for now, dragon and rider relaxed and enjoyed the personal time they had with one another. There would be plenty of things to attend to tomorrow. Tonight was theirs though.

A Moment of Peace {Solo}
{Word Count: 406}

It was a shock, she realized, when she was told how many turns it had now been since that night of the revolutionists attacking. Two and a half turns! Narisa leaned back in the chair she sat in, having been going over some inventory to help the headwoman out. Then there was the letter she had been working on to send to Euclid Weyr. A meeting she wanted to arrange with Kindra. And a bushel of other things. She rubbed at her eyes, scooting back so she could stand and stretch.

You're mind is troubled again.

Narisa didn't try to deny this. When isn't it? She countered, pulling on her boots to head outside and join the gold where she lay. This was their time. Right around twilight, when the sun was beginning to set. She tried to come out and spend some alone time with her dragon, to organize her thoughts.

We've come quite a long way. And things are well. Cepheith crooned, an eye opening partially as Narisa stroked her snout. What is it that troubles you this time?

"I'm not... sure exactly." Narisa admitted, moving to lean against Ceph's leg as the gold made room for her. "Many things. The usual things. I've heard that the wherhold's gold has risen as well." She frowned. "I can't decide how I should feel about this. Am I a terrible person for being happy for Anali?" They didn't quite see eye to eye, but she was a goldrider as well. Even if they'd had their negative encounters.

Cepheith shifted a little, so she Hers could scratch just the right spot above her eye. I do not think it makes you a bad person. It makes you human, Narisamine. Will we have to fight those young ones? Possibly. But that is not our fault. She crooned softly.

Narisa thought about it, absently scratching where she was directed while looking up towards the slowly darkening sky. "No, you are right. We can't change what actions someone takes. But we can do what is we feel is best for us. For everyone looking up to us." She sighed again, looking out along the lake. "I still believe in us."

And that is the most important thing to believe. The gold chuckled, eye closing as she settled. She liked the moments where her rider would just sit with her in silence, quietly humming a tune, or letting her thoughts wander.
