Ratri was glad Feuer seemed happy, seeing as he had a tendency to make others angry. "Well, I'm glad he at least had the time to teach you how to control your flames." Nodding to himself, he too laid down. Her next question caught him off guard.

Himself....he hadn't thought about himself for a while. That was the purpose of his endless traveling, he supposed. "Well.....I don't really know my family, I left them when I was young. I know I have two brothers, but I don't know of any others after them. I just didn't like the idea of living with them. All I really wanted was to see as much as I can. I suppose I was weird as a kit, I had no interest in family matters or being with my family." He rolled onto his back, now watching the clouds go by. Amazing how comfortable he already felt around Feuer, there was just something about her that he trusted. "I've been traveling ever since, never staying anywhere for too long. It's actually kind of nice, wondering where the next evening is going to be spent." He smiled to himself, finding shapes in the clouds as he talked.

She listened silently, tail flicking side to side as he spoke. When he rolled onto his back she guessed he was relaxed, which meant she could relax, too.

"So you like to travel?" She asked, laughing lightly. "That was my dream, but seeing as I'm a freak I can't. So I stick to the mountains." Her voice twisted into a darker tone at the word freak. She was still bitter, always had been. However she relaxed once more, raising an eyebrow.

"Once, only once I saw the ocean. I'd like to go and see it again, one day. Have you ever been?"

Ratri rolled back onto his belly, finding himself staring rather intently at Feuer. He really wished he could make others see that she wasn't a scary monster. "I do love traveling, seeing the world's wonders is a great way to spend my life. I figure I've seen more than most foxes my age have even dreamed of seeing. Surely you've left your mountains before?" He found it a terrible shame that she felt confined to these mountains. There was so much more to see, so much to do and experience.

I have most certainly seen the ocean, It's weird, with such a bitter flavor and sticky feeling. Isn't there a section of the ocean kinda near here?" He thought he recalled seeing it on the way up this mountain, but he may have been wrong. After all, he'd seen so many bodies of water on his journey that he found himself confusing them.

"Last time I left was awhile ago." She said, shrugging her shoulders."Actually, maybe a few years ago." Once again, another shrug.

"I can't leave much. I risk being seen, and I rather not be. Last time a fox other than you saw me it didn't go to well." She flicked her tail once more, looking longingly to the south. "Yes, there's an ocean there. Though I've never been. I heard couples speaking about it during passing the trail on this mountain." Couples, her eye twitched, tail flicking violently to the side.

"Even if it is salty and bitter, I liked it when I saw it. It has a refreshing sound as it moves, and I love sea-shells."

Ratri sat up suddenly, almost surprising himself. "Well then, I guess it's decided. Today, you're going to see the ocean once again with me!" He didn't really like being around others for extended periods of time, but maybe Feuer would be an exception. Besides, it really had been a long time since he'd seen the shore himself. Maybe he'd enjoy it even more with company. Feuer had just said it may have been years since she had been off this mountain.

It had been ages since he last played in the ocean's surf. It had tossed him this way and that, and he had loved every minute. But...."Hold on....since you're coated in fire, wouldn't it at the very least sting to be in the water?" Maybe she hadn't actually gone in last time she'd seen it. Or it could have been before her entire body had been covered in flames.

"Huh?" Ratri's movement made her twitch, looking up at him and sitting up herself. "Oh? Are we?" She didn't protest though he stomach felt uneasy. He was taking her out somewhere? What about people? Wouldn't he be ashamed walking beside her?

She laughed at his last question, shaking her head. "Oh no no. Actually, since fire kills most bacteria I never had a reason to go into water, ever. Though we could try. I'm not made of fire, I can't see why it'd sting." She nodded, the uneasy feeling churning. She didn't want him to be judged because of her strange..... issue.

Ratri positively beamed with excitement. Not only would he be going to the ocean again, he'd be going with someone he genuinely liked! "Well then m'lady, since it shouldn't harm you, shall we be on our way?" He made a jovial play of gentlemanry. "I don't know who would know the way better, you or I, so should we flip a rock to see who leads the way?" He looked down at the ground, trying to find a stone that would suit their needs.

Even - Ratri, Odd - Feuer

Feuer found a rock suitable and nudged it to Ratri. "Here. The burnt side is mine." With this, she burnt one side, flipped the rock, and grinned when the un-burnt side fell. "It seems you are my guide today." Still, she felt uneasy as she looked up. She'd be leaving the rocks and he would see what her feet did to anything green. She was a walking danger! Withdrawing her flames as much as she was able to, she slipped past Ratri and waited for him to take lead.

What would he do if she set a tree on fire? She was able to retract them enough to not, but if she grew startled... What would he do if she couldn't enter the water? She found herself worrying, fretting, and growing very tense. She had always know simple things like travel had to be planned carefully for her. Hell, she really did wish she hadn't been born with this curse.

Nodding his head, Ratri watched as Feuer's flames retracted. He hadn't realized it before, but it looked really neat when she did that. Lucky for them that she could, otherwise the brush they'd encounter wouldn't be too happy. "Well now," he said with a big smile, "Since that's settled, let the fun begin!"

He could sense Feuer's nerves steadily growing. Understandable, seeing as she was on fire and they were about to go through a rather green area, but he didn't feel too much need for concern. The leaves on the trees were still a healthy green, so the odds of the entire forest going up around them were slim. Satisfied that they would be safe, Ratri walked up past Feuer and began to lead them through the trees.

Luckily, there seemed to be a path going down the mountainside. He doubted it was made by a tribe because there were no scent markings along it. Probably used by deer a lot... he thought. He looked back at her after a minute or so to check on Feuer's progress.

As they began to walk Feuer was uneasy. She never left the mountain, ever. She was nervous, both for Ratri and the forest. What if something attacked them? She'd lose control and set the forest on fire for sure. This causes her flames to spark slightly as she walked, ears back against her head.

When he glanced back she offered a weak smile, forgetting he could barely see it. Still, she wasn't turning back. He had taken the time to offer her to the beach, where she always wanted to go, and she was tired of being alone constantly.

"How much further?"

Ratri gave the air a sniff, trying to pick up the salty air he remembered so well. It was still rather faint, but definitely getting stronger. He looked back at Feuer again, noticing how her flames crackled with her nerves. "We shouldn't be too far now," he replied, "I expect we'll be able to see it through the trees pretty soon." He was caught between concern and excitement for this trip. The further away from the rocks they got, the more nervous Feuer grew. He knew she would be glad once they reached their destination, it seemed as though she was the only fox that made a home here.

Smiling to himself, he picked his way along the path, making sure to alert Feuer to any roots he almost tripped over. He found forests to be one of the trickier environments to travel through. Roots managed to blend in and catch a paw when you least expected.

Her nerves were getting the best of her! She could barely keep herself from sputtering out of control. She moved closer to Ratri slightly, keeping her flames as dim as possible. When the scent of the sea finally hit her, her ears perked up. Excited, she began to nearly bounce in her steps.

Yes, the sarcastic, slightly guarded vixen was bouncing. She was leaving the mountain and seeing the ocean! She would see if she could touch water. What if... she couldn't? What if it hurt?

She'd worry about that later.

During one of his glances back to check on Feuer, Ratri notice that she had definitely picked up her pace and moved slightly closer to him. He could practically feel the excitement flowing off of her, so he too began to move faster down the mountainside. Her energy flowed into him, blocking out any concerns he'd had since the beginning of their trip.

Finally, he could hear the waves. It was only another minute later that the trees split in front of them, revealing the ocean before them. Ratri's breath caught in his throat, and it took him a moment to realize that the trees had stopped roughly 50 strides from the edge of a cliff. He carefully made his way over, taking deep breaths of ocean air. Stopping at the edge, he looked back at Feuer, smiling hugely. "It never ceases to be incredible, does it?"

She barely heard his words, her breath stopping. She was unable to respond for a period of time, her flames slowly uncoiling from around her in her distraction. She caught it just in time, hissing as she retracted her flames. Yes, the water was beautiful, but she wanted to be right in-front of it, touch it.

"Let's get closer." She said, using her tail to flick flames in the air, moving to see if there was a way down. She found one, hoping down from rock to rock, not caring it was dangerous.

"Come on, Ratri!"

Ratri was entranced for a sweet, brief time as Feuer's flames unraveled from her body. They really were a sight to behold, a true beauty unto themselves. He shook his head to clear it, smiling at her infectious excitement. His eyes followed the flames that left her tail before she left his line of sight. He scrambled over to the cliff's edge and skidded to a halt.

He was amazed she had even seen the series of rocks that formed her way down. They'd be stuck on the shore once they got down there, IF they got down there. But really, did that matter? Ratri wasnt connected to the place they'd just left behind, and Feuer had sounded rather miserable. But if she did miss her home once they were done here, he was sure they'd manage to find a way back up.

Feuer's call brought him back from his little reverie, so he sucked in his breath, summoned all his courage, and took the plunge down to the rocks after her. He was comforted to see that not only was the journey down as long as he'd thought from up high, there was sand that was sure to be a soft landing should either one of them fall.
