So it was difficult to become royalty. But then again, why would they make it easy? Her further train of thought was derailed as her and Polaris came upon the source of the shouting. It seemed like there was a group of guys attacking another man, who looked worse for wear. In fact, he looked downright beaten to hell.

The men sounded drunk, and Grus bit her lip in a mix of disgust and anger. Alcohol and people who drank it made her uneasy. She had never tried the stuff, but she didn't like the way it changed people.

She was startled by Polaris turning and demanding they help. And she even ran away before Grus could stammer out a response, leaving her hiding around the corner. She couldn't imagine what the men though, especially the one being beat up. No doubt he was praying to someone that help should come around, and he got a girl in a short skirt and thigh high boots.

Get out of here sweetheart. Or we're going to have to mess up that pretty face of yours.

Grus peeked around the corner, and saw Polaris standing defiantly in front of the men. She took a deep breath, and closed her eyes, running out join her against the men. At closer range, the man on the ground looked even sadder than from her previous vantage point. "What are you doing to that guy!" She said, not without a little waver in her voice.

The men, with the addition of another girl dressed equally as funny, laughed further. "Oh look! There's a mini one too!" The guy on the left said. The third chimed in "Which slutty costume party did you come from?" This question roused another round of drunken laughter.

Grus's face colored, but more with anger than embarrassment.

If things weren't so dire Polaris would have been folding back in on herself uncertainly. Ever since going super and losing a large chunk of her fuku the senshi of magnetism had often found herself self concious because of her outfit. Her stomach was bare.. you could see straight through her skirt, though thankfully her eternal upgrade had helped cover that up a bit. Against a more harmless enemy she would have recoiled and tried to cover her stomach with her arms. Really she was very thankful her skin was dark enough to hide most of the color that was flushing her face.

But in a situation like this.. it hardly matter, especially when the insult was not getting thrown just at her, but at her companion as well. She had to protect the man and Grus. She had to right this wrong! And that was the small glimmer of a thought she was clinging to as she continued forward.

"This isn't just some costume. We're senshi, warriors of justice."

"We're going to give you one chance to just stop what you're doing and get out of here. If you don't though... we're just have to make you leave!"

Intimidation. It was always the best place to start, to try and avoid conflict. It rarely worked though, and as the drunks began to laugh again it seemed as if it wasn't going to work this time either.

Warriors of justice?

Grus blinked up at the girl while the men laughed drunkenly. Warriors of justice? How corny was that?

The men weren't going to leave. In fact, they seemed in be getting steadily more and more rowdy and obnoxious. The one farthest on the right was staggering toward them slowly, tossing the bottle he was holding onto the ground with a sharp smash. Pieces of glass scattered on the ground.

"Get..get out of here!" Grus shouted, clenching her fists. She just wanted them to leave. Leave the man, leave the two senshi alone. Just go. The tallest man laughed, running his hand through his hair. "Now why on earth would we do that? Two pretty things like you wanderin around by yourself? It's gotta be some good luck on our part."

"Maybe it's karma!" One of them exclaimed, and the lot laughed at the thought. The injured man lay silently, though his gaze traveled between the girls and his attackers.

"Just, go away." She said, praying they take her advice.

Polaris was used to the laughter. Used to the reactions to her... occassionaly dramatic entrance poses and speeches. It wasn't something that particularly phased her though because there was passion behind what others saw as mere silliness.

Of course the bullies had no intention of leaving. Polaris even jumped a little as glass smashed against the ground, the man heading dangerously forward with his new weapon.

She had warned them.. and it was obvious it hadn't been heeded. In fact.. now Grus and her were actually in danger. They had come to try and help but it seemed by the end they might be fighting for their lives.. or at the very least for their chastity.

"Magnetic field" Her hand swung forward, seemingly harmlessly, until an onslaught of small metal objects came flying towards the group of men. The remaining glass of the bottle shattered on the ground as the ringleader suddenly found himself hit by a trashcan, a string of confused and startled curses filling the alleyway.

"Wha... what the hell was that!?" One of the men stumbled back away from the group, frightened. Mostly there was just a lot of confusion though.

Grus backed away a little as bits of metal flew around, hitting the men at random angles and causing them to shout. She wanted to cheer when the trashcan smacked the leader. Maybe she wouldn't have to do anything after all...

And then two of the men overcame their severe confusion to run at the girls. The first didn't have far to go, since he had been inching towards them for most of the conversation before. As he reached for Grus's arm, she shouted, backing away behind Polaris, but facing to the side. Her heart beat quickly, and her stomach was tying itself into nauseating knots. "Feather-Fall Strike!"

The mass of feathers from the earlier battle returned, hitting the nearest man straight in the face. He cried out as papercuts appeared along his open skin, the second one's face going pale as his brain fully realized that they weren't dealing with normal people. "How..?" he asked, backing away while his friend hit the ground in front of him, tiny nicks covering his arms and face.

She had hoped that it would be enough.. the magical flying metal.. and then the slicing feathers from nowhere. Polaris hoped that they'd just decide it wasn't worth their time and effort. But it must have been some mixture of liquid courage and chauvinistic pride that kept them from immediately running away.

Better to n** it in the butt before it went too far. Before someone got really hurt, which was something she really didn't want. Not her or Grus... not the man on the floor.. not even the drunken bullies themselves.

She lunged forward with a punch at the man that was beginning to stepback, hitting him once square in chest. Just a warning. Not enough to really seriously hurt him, just enough to prove once and for all that they were tangling with girls that well.. did NOT punch like girls. Hopefully it'd be enough.

"One more time. If you just leave now we'll let you go. No more trouble."

One of them ran away. Grus wasn't sure which, but suddenly they were facing only two instead of three. It was probably the one Polaris punched that took off, wondering just where these girls learned to fight. The remaining two were dumbfounded, but still adamant about showing the girls "who was boss."

So they both came at them at the same time. One for each of them.

Grus was terrified.

Her attacker swung messily, missing easily, and she backed away, holding her arms up in the defensive pose she had been taught. When he swung again, he brushed her forearm, but she only backed away, shouting "Get away from me!" while her stomach rebelled angrily to the proximity of the flailing man. He followed, realizing his good fortune in his pick of target, and grabbed her arm, pulling her forward. Grus shrieked, and with a almost silent sob, thrust her leg out in a kick aimed for the ribs.

He was still holding her wrist when he went down. So she went with him, dragged to her knees by the bulk of the man falling over, howling and clutching his side with his free hand. The other remained firmly locked on Grus's wrist, and she struggled, panic evident. She was going to be sick.

They lunged forward instead of back and Polaris found herself gritting her teeth in frusteration. She didn't want to fight people... Why did people have to even be this way? Couldn't they all just get along? Be good people living good lives and then everyone would be happy. But that wasn't ever the case.

Powered or not there would always be someone who chose to do the wrong thing. Who took advantage of or hurt others for their own gain and pleasure. It was a sad fact that had always weighed heavily on Polaris... no.. Aurora. And it was something she'd always hoped to fight against, even if it was simply by living a good and moral life herself, trying her best to show the way to others around her in small ways. Small acts of kindness. Doing what was right.

Her attacker actually landed his 'hit', a half hearted punch that ended up more in the two tangled together before she could give him a hard shove to the ground. He received a booted kick too, to help keep or convince him back as she heard Grus' words, turning quickly to try and see what was going on. She was frightened.. and possibly hurt too. It was hard to tell exactly what, but the ever familiar feeling of protectiveness slid over the senshi of magnetism.

"Let go!" A furious roar as she stomped on the man's nearby ankle.

The crack of the man's ankle was audible enough to make Grus wince. He howled, wrapping both his hands around his ankle in pain. Grus scrambled backwards, holding her wrist. It wasn't damaged, probably just a little indian burn beneath her armlets. Her stomach rolled under her fuku, and she rose to her feet quickly, tearing away from the battle to the other end of the alleyway. She felt bad leaving Polaris, but the woman seemed to be able to handle herself.

She reached the edge of the building, holding onto the brick for dear life. Her face felt clammy and cold. She tried the breathing technique her mother taught her when she was nervous, but it didn't completely quell her stomach. She felt like she was going to pass out...

Only she didn't. Instead, she threw up. Much less dignified.

Grus leaned against the building, feeling the brick cool her cheeks as the uneven surface pricked her skin slightly.

One had road rash and an aching butt... the other was clutching a throbbing ankle. Neither seemed inclined to fight anymore, both in fact seemed to be doing their best to scoot and drag themselves the heck out of there. She paused for a moment to look at the man on the ground, eyeing him cautious before she pulled out her cellphone, calling an all too familiar number.

The message to the 911 operator was short and clipped, one injured during a bar brawl and the location. She didn't plan on being here when they arrived and she could only hope the beaten man would tell the names of his attackers to the police so they could face some real justice.

Everything dealt with, Polaris retreated towards the way Grus had, looking for the other senshi with a firm frown of concern on her face. When she finally found her, she breathed a sigh of relief, nearing the leaning girl.

"We can't stay for too long, I've already called in an anonymous tip to the police."

She paused.. something was a little off... Was Grus badly hurt? The smell of vomit and sweat finally reached her, her face scrunching in soft confusion and uncertainty. Her voice was softer when she spoke again. "Are you alright Grus?"

Grus was reveling in the cool of the brick, feeling as if she could sleep for an entire day. Her consciousness flickered in and out, she wasn't sure how much time passed before she heard footsteps approaching her. It was a girl talking. Polaris. Right. She was there too. She almost didn't hear Polaris at first, the ringing in her ears was pressing against her eardrum painfully. The fight must have gone well, since no one else was attacking her, and the other girl seemed ok. She knew she had been sick, and judging by the worry in her voice, Polaris had taken notice of it.

Awesome.

Grus forced herself from the wall and looked at Polaris with dull eyes and a fake smile. "Yeah, I'm alright." She managed, her voice as shaky as her bare knees. "I just..." she trailed off, trying to find sweeter words than the truth. She couldn't admit she was a failure. Not again.

But what else could she say?

Hanging her head, she said quietly "I can't fight." The embarrassment of the revelation coupled with her being ill cause hot tears to well up in her eyes. Some senshi she turned out to be.

"Polaris, I suck as a senshi."
PostPosted: Thu Oct 06, 2011 9:41 am

She hadn't 100% equated the sickness to the senshi, not until she actually turned and Polaris could read the fatigue on her. Fatigue... and disappointment.. and embarrassment. And tears.

The words were heavy. Heart breaking.

Whether she wanted it or not, Grus would soon find herself with company, one gloved hand attempting to grasp the senshi of feather's hand as the other one lifted to brush back bangs and try to lift her her upwards once more. "What...?"

The look of concern had spread, brows knitted, a soft frown stretching wide across her face. But she had those instincts in her. The ones that had been cultivated and developed by playing mother to a bunch of motherless brothers. To bandage wounds and bolster confidence. Or to simply sit there and stroke a back as a young child cried out all the frusteration in the world.

When her voice sounded it was in a soft hush, insisting lightly. "You did perfectly fine both times I've seen you Grus."

"You stood up and did your job. You protected people and children. You're actually out here patrolling even when tons of others neglect their job for other silly stuff. Or fear."

The hand gripping Grus' hand squeezed gently. "Not every senshi needs to be a great fighter. There are so many other things you can do. But the fact that you're out here. That you came when you saw someone was in need not once, but twice tonight..."

"The fact that you even care that you might not be doing a good job at it.." Oh to hell with it, she had one boot in vomit as her arms wrapped around the other senshi. She didn't really stop to worry about what would happen if Grus attempted to push her away.

She shook her head slowly as Polaris went on, wiping her cheek with her free hand. This was a one time thing.

Grus expected comforting words, or maybe a hand on the shoulder or something. She was not expecting all of that and a full on hug from the older girl.

She was surprised, clasped to the girl. "You don't understand." The tears she felt coming weren't going away, and cascaded down her cheeks. "I can use magic just fine. But when it comes to actually hurting people.." She trailed off, shutting her eyes tightly. This was her nightmare. Admitting to someone who obviously knew what they were doing that she couldn't. She just couldn't.

"Sometimes I wonder if I should even be out here at all."
PostPosted: Mon Oct 10, 2011 9:59 pm

She wasn't pushed away, so she lingered, letting a hand oh so lightly pat the feather senshi's bat, her voice a soft hush. "Grus...."

"You're upset because... you're a good enough person to worry and not want to hurt people. It doesn't sound like such a bad thing to be.." Many people were upset about fighting at first, but she had never seen one so strongly effected as this one was. And when you thought about it logically.. why did she need to be upset? In any other situation the desire not to throw punches or hurt people would be applauded.

Philosophical thinking aside, she offered thoughtfully. "There are other jobs for senshi to do other than just fight on the streets. There is the database that needs to be maintained. Information gathering... An extra set of eyes patrolling the streets that can call in other senshi when they find things. Keeping an eye on the chibis."

"And if you really want to fight and to get better.. It's something you can work on and through with time. We're all here together on the same team. We all need to help each other out. I will try to help you if you like.. however I can."

She nodded, holding back her tears for now. There were other jobs besides fighting? Like what? Polaris answered for her. The thought of patrolling, but not fighting seemed strange. Wouldn't the negaverse agent feel her presence? Would the other senshi get there in time?

"A..database?" She asked, voice a little muffled from crying. "What kind of database?" Was there some super secret database of all things senshi just chillin somewhere? And when she brought up chibis, Grus actually smiled. Having met a chibi or two before, she thought that they were pretty ok without being watched. Heck, maybe some of them were stronger than bigger senshi!

"Thank you." She said, gently pulling away from the hug. She wiped her eyes with her armlet, offering the girl a sad, but hopeful smile. "I'm sorry I freaked out...It's just hard for me. All my life I've been told that fighting isn't the answer. And that I had to be careful because I'm littler than most of the people my age. Its difficult to go against and ingrained instinct."
