HERO Lissuh AntoniaMaxima I don't have many art friends, and the ones I do have are pretty casual about it. Are you in art school? Nope. Not even remotely. I took an art class at college with one of my artist friends, whom I met in elementary school, and ended up befriending a bunch of people in the class. They were really cool for a while, but now they've all become obnoxious about it--especially when it comes to art history. I emphasised my history studies on the Italian Renaissance, so I find it pretty offensive when people who take one art history class run around pretending that they know more about the period's culture than I do. It's probably just my group of friends that's like that, though. Their attitude is pretty amusing since most art history classes are taught as the university transferable art credit for people not remotely interested in art. I took several art history classes when I was in college and still do informal studies just because I find it interesting. Unfortunately the art world, just like every other part of humanity, has its share of dipsticks and douches

HERO Lissuh AntoniaMaxima Oof, I know the feeling. Especially when they have less that no backing and try to argue with you. I'm considering a Classics major, and it irritates me so much when I get into a discussion and someone cites, say, the Hercules movie. stare I'm not a history major (in fact, I'm a CS major), but I've been studying history for most of my life (per the influence of my parents) and take a lot of classes still. I've just stopped talking about art with them because it is so so so frustrating. Otherwise, they're cool people (for the most part). They only get really bad when this one particular friend of mine is around, and most of the serious artists I've met on Tumblr are really awesome. We all have things we're elitist about, amIright? Usually, the art elitists I find on Tumblr are good, but not great. The great ones talk about how they got laid by offering to show someone their sketchbook. They're that good, haha.

This one girl I've been talking to I apparently was introduced to by our mutual friend IRL, but neither of us can remember that. She's actually the only one that I can still stand talking to about art. What kind of art styles are you into, out of curiosity?

I was into caricature and surrealism for a while (you won't see that on Gaia), but I realized you needed carelessness for the former and hallucinogens for the latter. Right now I'm into, ah, semi-realism, kind of. Few colors and a little more pen. You?

I used to do a lot of realism with charcoals and stuff, but then I got back into doodling in a cartoon style. If I'm just looking at art, I love ridiculously detailed pieces. I'm a sucker for baroque and rococo pieces, but I adore surreal horror and cyberpunk. Kind of all over, I know. xd

I love just staring at a piece for ages, finding for details. Realism and anime have gotten a bit jaded for me, though. In Gaia it's always "ANIME VS REALISM AND NOTHIGN ELSE MATTURS SO GO HOEM" When I get the gold maybe I'll quest for "alternative art"? xD

Are there people that like art that think "anime" is a single artistic style? What I imagine that you're actually talking about is people who use anime as a mistake-hiding crutch, in which case you'd be right to complain... Or maybe you think that all anime is one, single style and don't notice any difference from one to the next. In that case, though, I don't think that you're in a position to discuss artistic principles with anyone. :-/

A great deal of my friends are artists. But when you meet them at art school, they prefer not to in their spare time.
