Ian was quiet, frowning a little, but not in anger at his friend. If anything, he was more jealous. He still had dull aches that came and went in his shoulder, and his parents hid their concern by teasing him gently about how he was too young to have joins that hurt when it was supposed to rain. But it was certainly not Jude's fault that Ian had suffered what, two attacks now?
"You're lucky, then," he said finally. "I guess just keep hoping you don't get any first-hand experience." A weak smile crossed his lips as he took another drink of coffee. "It sucks to have to wait in emergency rooms and tell the cops about whatever happens."

"Or maybe I'm not lucky and it's just...I dunno." Overhyped. Photoshopped. He didn't say it. Instead he slouched in his chair, staring at the picture on screen with both hands curled in around the perfectly-made cup of coffee. After a moment he reached out to click on another link, to wander out of the senshi forum and away toward writing. See what was new there. He could probably carry a conversation and skim at the same time.
"My mom said she saw something, but I don't know what to think when she says that." One of his shoulders twitched upward, eyes flicking back to Ian. "She's kind of full of crap."

"Yeah, I can understand that, I guess," Ian sighed. "I mean, everyone's so nervous here, I'm sure people are seeing monsters in everything." That was something with which the red-haired boy completely sympathized completely; he was more than a bit of a worrier, and it seemed like recently, his stomach aches and shoulder cramps were coming on a bit more often. Or did that mean he had some sort of psychological thing, from being attacked?
... Not the best thing to think about, especially as he ingested more caffeine. It was not lost on the boy that it might serve him to give up the coffee for a while, to keep calmer, but well, easier said than done. He was not addicted, honestly, coffee was just one of his favorite things. Not for the first time, he reminded himself to try decaf next time.
"Hey, Jude," the boy asked, brushing some hair back out of his eyes. "What is the funniest cat gif you have seen this week? Or, if you've got like, a top ten or something." A small grin started to form on his lips. "I found this great one of a cat trying peanut butter for the first time. Let me see if I can find it to show you." They all just needed happier things to talk about. Fortunately, the internet was a pretty good source for those, too.

It got a smile, at least, creeping slowly across his face -- even as he shook his head at the idea, leaning forward to poke through his folders. Jude wasn't big on cat gifs, but he liked other sorts -- funny ones, bizarre ones, surreal ones. He also followed an absurd number of fashion blogs for a young man, but Ian didn't need to know that.
Instead they could trade the fun and the silly over coffee and cookies. Jude could replenish if needed; he had until shortly before dinner before he'd curse and lever himself to run off, making half-hearted excuses that obviously had nothing to do with the truth.
