Hael listened open mouthed to all of the male’s descriptions of his faults. Her muscles like her mind were overwhelmed at his point. She was forced to lay down looking up at the male through gaps in her hair she hiccuped again and the tears kept coming. Her blue eyes would have rings of red if this kept up any longer. She just didn’t understand why he was doing all this. Her voice was a shadow of its normal self. “I don’t even know your name. Why should you care whether I’m upset or in need of help or .. or ” At the end of my tail with no hope and no sanity left. My world has crumbled and fallen apart. Modieties I must seem pathetic if a deava is trying to comfort me. Hael gave a very unlady like sniffle snort. Her wings sagged to the ground gathering dust. All of the things this male said might have been true to some degree, yet he was also kind and gentle. Hael twitched. This was impossible. He is a deava. Deava’s are tricksters and evil. Kind and gentle had nothing to do with anything when it came to them. He did mention that he had phim blood in him earlier hadn’t he. Hael’s mind latched on to that idea like a drowning fox latches onto a floating log. If Deava blood could corrupt others, couldn’t phim blood bless them? If that was the case then De was safe wasn’t he? That girl he ran with didn’t act like a deava and her father didn’t according to De. Did they have phim blood in that line? They must. There were so many intermarriages nowadays that it would be impossible to find a pureblood deava or phim .. well there were some like Hael. Though they were few and far between. That would also explain why some phims had nasty attitudes.

Deimos snorted, though it was impossible to tell if it was directed towards the female or himself. "Because, for all that I'm a vain, nosy, blunt popinjay, I'm not a monster. I'm a whole lot of things, but I don't get pleasure in watching others in pain." Dei looked off to the side, away from Hael, so she wouldn't have to feel shame at crying in front of him.
"And let's get this straight. I'm not some lovey dovey guy who goes around trying to help people. I don't answer to every sniffle or trivial little hurt that passes by me. People manage or they don't, that's just how it is. Anyone who thinks they can take on the burdens of the world is a fool who will inevitably be crushed into nothing, and I'm not a fool either." Dei paused for a moment, for all the world like he was listening to the quiet birdsong that had begun to filter back down through the trees.
"But-," he shrugged, "-those who need to find excuses to help others are worse than fools. So I'm not out to help the world, I don't need heaps of good deeds to my name to feel vindicated. And maybe I'm just a chauvanist and a sucker for a damsel in distress, cause you're not the first person I've helped." Dei wasn't so sure what would have happened to Morana. She could have found a nice guy to protect her, but she could have also found someone who would have abused her. Little empty doll that she was, it wouldn't have taken much to shatter her. But that didn't matter much right here and now, so he pulled his mind back to the female in front of him.
"As for knowing my name, well that's an easy fix. I'm Deimos." He grinned in an ironic fashion. "Named after the son of the god of war and the goddess of love, meaning fear or terror. Suiting for a Daeva, wouldn't you think?" The question was mostly rhetorical though. Dei had always liked his name, it appealed to his theatrical side.

Not a monster. No pleasure from the pain of others… that sounds like a phim. I was right? Looking up at the male she blushed. He had turned his head so she could cry. That was just too much. Gathering the shards of her pride Hael sniffled again and rubbed her eyes with a dirty paw. Her fur was a mess but she still sat up and looked every bit a queen of the domain in which she sat.
“I doubt anyone will ever accuse you of being lovey or dovey. I certainly never asked for any help of yours.” For once in her life guilt actually ate away at her conscious in regards to a deava. “Still your words do make a certain amount of sense. One can not judge based on appearance alone.” It was very hard for Hael to say this and so her words sounded a bit forced. It was the best she could muster up under the circumstances though. Her muscles still threatened to drop her and her head was beginning to ache. Flipping her hair back with a paw she looked at the deava with a raised brow. “I see. Do you always make it a habit of finding a girl and helping them?” Suspicion that what he did with the girl after wasn’t in the least decent crept into her mind.
The male’s grin was disarming as his self shaming speech before was. “It is fitting. Deimos. I am Hael. According to my grandmother it refers to the angel of kindness.” She glared at Deimos daring him to contest it.
(woops forgot what her name ment before this mess.. she hasn’t been all that kind *snicker*)

Deimos actually laughed, a deep and rich sound of amusement. "Ah, irony is something I've always appreciated, especially in regards to a name. I suppose I live up to mine, but only on first meeting. We already know I'm not a lover, but I'm no fighter either." Dei chuckled in the same tone as before. He didn't make a comment on Hael's name past the hinted-at irony, for the reasons that he knew she wouldn't take it well and he didn't know her. Maybe she was no angel of kindless to him and his ilk, but it was no reason to judge her for it. The only thing that would make it more ironic to Deimos was if he'd been named after an angel of betrayal, for it was essentially betrayal that seemed to be the root cause of Hael's problems with Daevas.
"I see you still doubt my intentions though, Hael," Dei said, once his amusement passed. "No, I do not have a habit of finding people to help, let alone females in particular. It just seems to be my luck that I come across them and they come across me, and pure chance that it's been only females 'til now." Dei grinned with wicked humor. "What, you think I'm like the big, bad wolf in those human tales, come to eat the charming little girl? Figuratively or literally, take your pick." Dei shook his head, still grinning. "Nah. I don't go for the emotionally damaged." He tilted his head a little, and the grin faded into a half smile that was good-natured. "I don't fix people, Hael. I'm just the guy that sits there and points out truths no one wants to hear. That girl I helped, and you. You're both gonna have to fix yourselves on your own."

Staring at Deimos Hael had the urge to smack him upside the head. He was laughing and no doubt part of his was directed at her. She knew this in her bones. “You may not be a lover or fighter, but you are something that’s for certain.” She bit her tongue from saying anything else that would make her stupid conscious come back want to apologize later. Instead she took time and started to clean the dust from her coat. She shook out her feathers and pulled out some leaves from her hair. She really was more of a mess than she thought she was. Realizing this she blushed with shame. Being seen like this was humiliating. Perhaps it was best that only a stranger had seen this. Had her son seen her like this Hael would have given up on living.
Ah well she would have to find him soon enough. She had a lot to tell him. Starting with an apology for how she had behaved toward that girl he liked. Hael closed her eyes and sighed. If phim blood could do for a deava then Hael didn’t need to worry about that flightless fox or her family. She glanced at Deimos when he compared himself to the big bad wolf. “Would you eat a vixen? Figuratively or literally?” She frowned at him. “I am not emotionally damaged. I’m stressed and overworked with enough bad crap happening that you’re lucky I’m not insane.” Again her conscious decided to pick an augment with her. “I know that I’m not the most tolerant person in the world.” It wasn’t an exact apology but Hael was not about to say the word sorry to this male no matter how nice he seemed.

Deimos raised an eyebrow and turned his head to face Hael again. "Betrayed, by a Daeva you thought was a friend. You mentioned the Daeva had a mate that was involved somehow. Since you don't seem the type to hold back I assume that's the only reason for your prejudice, and, from the way you said it, this happened awhile back. Face it girlie, you've got emotional damage. Why else would you take such an intense dislike to me when you don't know me, or be scared out of your wits about your son."
Dei paused to yawn a little, adding to the lazy look. It was to his advantage to appear a bit slow. Nothing like seeing the expressions on the faces of others when they thought him dumb and he pulled the mental rug out from under their feet. Best form of unintentional flattery for him. Of course it was all probably wasted on Hael, but habits died hard.
"Now I'm going to make a few intuitive leaps here. I'll assume your son is a Phim or a normal fox, since if he himself was a Daeva I'm sure he wouldn't have resulted from a willing partnership. I'm no stranger to offspring from nonmated partners since that's how my parents, my paternal grandmother, and all my paternal cousins were born. I also know that the partnership isn't always willing, case in point my normal great grandfather hates my Phim great grandmother. No idea why, he hates a lot of stuff. However, assuming again, I'm sure you would have told me if a Daeva had sired your children since it would be another strike against my kind."
Dei paused again, this time to tilt his head to the side and examine Hael's reaction closely. He didn't know what she would and would not tell him verbally, but she had very expressive body language. "Here's another leap. It's not against our genetic code to mix and mingle. After all my mother is a Daeva, and her mother is a Phim. I'm assuming that your son has Daeva blood in his genetic line."
Dei flexed his sky-blue claws in an unconscious gesture while he thought, leaving little furrows in the earth. "Here's where I'm not as sure in my guesswork. You've got a temper, but not all Daevas are nasty and not all Phims are sweet. All that stress and fear for your child could be from bringing a child into the world with a hated bloodline, though it's extreme for a fox to never have children because they hate their family and it's just as likely the stress and fear can come from just finding out." A short hum as thoughts raced through his brain and more gouges in the earth. "I would have to say that, given how little you seem to know about Daevas, it would be from the other parent that your child got their diverse lineage. Otherwise you'd either not have a problem with Daevas or you'd have hated them from the time you were a child and most likely wouldn't have tried befriending one later in life."
Dei shook his head and shrugged. "That's just my guess. Oh, and back to talking about me. Of course I wouldn't eat a vixen, figuratively or literally. I am neither a cannibal or a "hound", as they're called." He sighed dramatically. "A fling would be just too much work, girls would start getting clingy. No, I'm just not interested in dalliances, sorry to disappoint."

(Oh so tempted to toss De in.. is that wrong? I wonder what Dei would think of De)
Well la-te-da! Mr. I think I have answers to everyone and everything thinks he knows everything. I wish he would just shut up! Hael’s eyes narrowed and her lips curled up into a silent snarl as Demois went on and on about bloodlines and why Hael was broken, at least emotionally. Still she didn’t interrupt wanting to see just what kind of conjectures the deava was drawing about her. Oh he got far to much right which made Hael feel exceedingly uncomfortable and she twitched a few times. All of this welling anger was dispelled by the male’s comment about himself. Hael actually laughed out loud and her muscles having still been arguing with her gave up and she flopped over and kept right on laughing. A few a few moments Hael managed to gain some semblance of control but her breath was still a bit short. “Ha! Oh that’s funny. I can’t even imagine a girl that would disappointed that you aren’t interested in a fling over an obnoxious know-it-all overly vain and condescending male like you, much less one getting clingy about you.” She chuckled a bit more before speaking again while looking up at Deimos through her golden hair that was lying across her face. Her voice started becoming sader. “As to what you said. Perhaps you got it all; I was hurt by a deava and his mate. Since then I have been mocked and laughed by several other deavas. Such scone only builds with time. My child does have deava blood him despite being a Phim, he was born of a nonconsensual union with another phim. She has been less then supportive in raising De, though to be fair I have not seen much of my other child Khal. I did not know about the deava blood from the other mother until later in life. I have always worried about my son since he so often played with that wingless deava spawn girl. When he confessed to loving her I panicked.” Hael sighed deeply. “Finding out about the bloodline was simply another stab into my heart and I worry even more now. Still I suppose it doesn’t matter. Things have gone too far. I haven’t seen my son in at least a fortnight, I’m not sure he’ll ever speak with me again after the last fight.”
Hael ‘humphed’ and rolled to her stomach then looked up at Deimos. “heh, I guess you’re right I’m emotionally damaged. Hell I’m getting therapy from a deava.” She snorted and pushed herself up to her feet and nodded her head at Deimos. “Congratulations you’re right about everything I’m sure that’s another point for you ego.” Hael’s sarcasm was unintentional but it had become such a habit when speaking with deava’s that it was heard not to do. Her tail twitched and she told her ever apologetic side that her guilt was aiding that it could go to hell. She was done here; tired of thinking about all this, tired of relieving the memories, and tired of this pain in the a** male that was right about too many things and wouldn’t shut up. “Well now then unless you have any further jibs or jokes to use at my expense I suppose I should go. After all you’ve done what you like to do and said the truths I didn’t want to hear, you’ve displayed your lovely white fur and blue claw for me to ‘oo’ and ‘ah’ at even if they aren’t to my taste.. which by the way I still think that you do have the coloring of a clown.” Hael shrugged. She wasn’t in the habit of lying and certainly wasn’t going to hold back for Deimos.

Deimos just shrugged in response to her comments. "And I think that stole is totally impractical, a bit tacky, and obviously an attempt to introduce some color. See, I can insult your looks too," he said, grinning a little.
"But you mentioned that if I had another comment before you left to voice it now. Only to correct you. That "wingless Daeva spawn" you talked about? There's a shorter word it. It's called a normal." Dei shook his head. "If I ever called my sister a wingless Daeva spawn she'd kick my a**," he said, chuckling a little.

Hael end up one part of her stole with a paw and looked at it. “It does add color I suppose, but that’s not why I like it. It happens to be quite soft.” She grinned and looked back to Deimos. “So sorry but your wrong. I’m quite happy with my lovely coat as is. It needs no other color than what it already has.” Her tail flipped up once. “See I can be vain too.” She stuck out her tongue at Deimos and considered his ‘correction’. She only sniffed, but didn’t comment on it. It was hard to picture a wingless vixen beating up a full grown deava that was so much bigger.
De’s heart was in his throat. He had just come with some time with Yuna. He loved her deeply and was thankful that she was his. Still the conversation they had touched upon about kits troubled him. Yuna had dropped it quick enough, but he hadn’t. He wasn’t sure he wanted to bring kits into the world until he had found a way to make his own mother stop acting like Yuna or anyone with deava blood was a monster. Spying a clearing De noted how torn up it was and saw a familiar figure in it. Dropping out of the sky De skidded into a stop facing both a deava and his mother. She was filthy dirty while the deava was clean. De wondered what was going on, if his mother had lost her mind and attacked a deava. He cleared his throat and wondered where to begin.

"Uh oh," Deimos said lazily, looking at the new addition to the clearing. "Looks like the calvery got called in. Hope it doesn't come to a fight, my muscles aren't as limber as they should be from all this sitting." He yawned pointedly, the picture of a male who doesn't particulary care a whole lot.
He turned his attention from the male for a moment though to look at Hael, and laughed. "Nothing wrong with vanity," he said. "It's a common glue that's been bonding all of our species since the Deities put us here." He grinned half-extended his wings before folding them back against his back. "I keep telling my sister she should be more vain. It saddens me to admit it, but she got the better looks of the two of us. Pity she wasn't a Daeva, she'd have been absoluetly stunning."
He considered his words for a moment. "On the plus, I'm not having to constantly beat away potential suitors unworthy to her. I suppose that makes up for it."

De blinked and looked at the male uncertain. He didn’t appear to be hurt, just bored. Yet his mother Hael was in the clearing and she was or had been sticking her tongue out at the male? Very confused De looked at the male and cleared his throat. “A sir, you are unhurt?” He looked at his mother and then back to the male his expression very confused.
Hael gapped at her son amazed he was even present. Where had he been all this time? What had he been doing? Was he eating all right? Who had he been with? After De asked his own question allowed Hael’s jaw snapped shut with a soft click. Anger welling up in her belly. Did he think her so uncivilized as to attack any fox even if they where a deava? Her feathers ruffled and her claws digging into the dirt Hael had to breathe and relax. Deimos’s stupid words from earlier danced about her mind. She realized it was true. She had been so blinded and angry that her son had been right to be more worried about the deava that he was about her. Even as dirty and disheveled as she was. Shame devoured anger and left a cold lump in her belly.

Deimos blinked and stared at the male. On closer examination he didn't seem all that old, perhaps the same age as Dei himself. "Well," he exclaimed in mock disbelief, "I have seen everything! A Phim who inquires about the Daeva before another Phim, how remarkable."
He cast a glance at Hael. She seemed to be having another of her mixed emotional moments. Anger, joy, concern, a dash of resentment. She definetly recognized him, at least. Looking back at the male Dei noted the similarities in body coloring.
"Hmmm. Now insult my intelligence if I'm wrong," he drawled at Hael, "but would this happen to be the son you were speaking of? Oh, be sure to tell me if I'm right in a tone that also calls my intelligence into question." Dei grinned mischiveously at Hael. He was pretty sure, no matter how the Phim ever felt about Daevas in the end, that he'd earned a special place in her heart as a world-class pain in the bum.

De coughed politely. “Well sir. I see really no difference between on fox an another regardless of whether the fox is a phim or not. He answered the deava male’s inquiry. “My name is Dethiatin. Yes that is in fact one of my mothers.” Why was this deava aggravating his mother? And more to the point why was his mother even speaking with a deava. As far as De knew his mother not only avoided deavas but fled whenever one appeared or was in the vicinity.
Hael sighed allowed. “Yes he is my son, and yes you do sound like a moron.” She glared at him and then looked to her son. Her eyes were shadowed with grief and worry. “Have you been well? No harm has come to you since you last left me?” She looked him up and down and saw that he seemed well enough but she wanted to hear it directly from him.

Deimos chortled in the background. He couldn't say why exactly he found Hael so amusing. He liked to poke fun at everyone, of course, but the only other person he could think of that he intentionally tried getting a rise out of was his sister.
Perhaps something of a coping mechanism, for Hael's sake. After all it would be too much to ask her to be civil to creatures she'd thought abonimations for some time. He was sure she'd eventually be able to get there on her own, but in the meantime why not be a bit snarky so that Hael would have perfectly good excuses to snip at him when she felt like it?
The fact that he loved tormenting others probably had something to do with it as well...
Dei stretched his wings out and folded them again, then stood and stretched his legs. Examining the Phims through his usual narrowed gaze, he wondered if his presence here was no longer needed and if he should just slip away.

De looked at his mother and wondered how she got in such a disheveled state. “I have been well. I’m fine mother.” De trotted over the deava since his mother seemed to be somewhat crazed at the moment. “Excuse me sir, I don’t mean to be a bother, though I wonder. Could you tell me what has been going on here?” He looked to his mother and then back to Deimos very confused. A glance around the clearing only served to make De more concerned.
“Don’t ask that charlatan what happened her or he’ll have your head spinning with tales after he finds half a dozen ways to insult you!” Hael frowned at De hurt that hadn’t asked her what happened. Oh she understood why, though it still bothered her. She marched right up to Deimos and her son and stared the deava in the eye daring him to call her wrong. He had messing with others down to an art and she didn’t want such to happen to her son.
